y last weekend. police say they received a credible threat to today that three baltimore gangs were plotting to "take out policemen." the world news tonight with david muir will have much more on the unrest in baltimore. that's next at 6:30 after our broadcast. and "action news" reporter kenneth moton is headed to baltimore at this hour. his live reports begin tonight on "action news" at 11:00. now the latest on the deadly accident that has disrupted all activity in parts of lower providence township. it happened at 6 o'clock this morning when the tractor separated from its cab and slammed into a tanker truck. the driver of the tanker was killed. the area around south park avenue and crawford road is still shut down at this hour. that's where "action news" reporter david henry is now live. david, what are the conditions right now? >> reporter: jim, this very busy avenue of south park avenue normally very busy is closed right now, has been for over 12 hours as the cleanup

work continues back there. , see what looks like a snow flurry as workers continue to gather up that white powder that was spilled on the road. now, this is a multilevel investigation involving the local police and county investigators because it was a fatal accident, this is being treated like a crime scene. >> it could potentially lead to criminal charges. >> reporter: this violent collision sent shock waves through the neighborhood just before 6:00 this morning. investigators continue to piece together the exact sequence of events. initially it appears the trailer of a tractor-trailer rig broke weigh as the truck rounded a curve an oncoming tanker truck plowed right into it. the driver of that truck was killed. the other driver was uninjured. police are also looking into the possibility that the trailer may have that crossed the center line and broke free when it was hit. >> obviously the reconstruction of this accident, the physics of the accident are going to lead us

to a definite determination of what the geometry was of the accident. >> reporter: the tractor-trailer was hauling barrels of a fine white powder used in cosmetics. the powder caught fire on the roadway and nearby lawns. that triggered a hazmat response. residents sheltered in place until responders determined the material is not hazardous. residents say this road they call accident alley is the real hazard. a lot of speeding and a lot of accidents. >> everybody's coming down here about 50, 55 miles an hour and then sometimes if you're not familiar with the road you don't realize these have some pretty good curves on this road. so we've seen -- we've been here many years saw sonsy tons and tons. >> reporter: at this point investigators haven't determined what caused this accident. the investigation and the cleanup continues out here with still no word on when this road might open. it could still be hours yet based on what we're seeing behind us right now. live in audubon david henry

channel6 "action news." jim. >> thank you david. the pennsylvania supreme court has reinstated the child endangerment conviction of monsignor william lynn. the former philadelphia archdiocesan official was found guilty of child endangerment in 2012 but then had his conviction thrown out by an appeals court. today that decision was reversed. lynn was never accused of molesting children but he became the first church supervisor in the country charged with how he handled sexual abuse complaints. lynn is now on house arrest. a stabbing at a radnor township school has put the victim in the hospital and the suspect in a jail cell. it happened at the barack hebrew academy on south bryn mawr avenue today. officials say students were not in danger and the suspect was apprehended within 20 minutes. live with more is "action news" reporter annie mccormick at radnor police. annie. >> reporter: and jim, the 50-year-old victim remains in

serious condition at pep presbyterian hospital. like you said that suspect is in custody. niece a delaware county jail but it's unclear what the motive was behind this attack. 32-year-old ivan moore is on his way to jail facing a slew of charges including attempted murder and aggravated assault. just before 10:00 a.m. police say moore a former member of the kitchen staff at jack barack hebrew academy in bryn mawr gained access to the bus entrance after an employee recognized him. moore allegedly confronted a current employee in the cafeteria. >> that dispute escalated into a situation where the former employee then took out a knife and stabbed the current employee after he stabbed him he then fled on foot. >> reporter: the 50-year-old victim suffered head and neck wounds and the suspect allegedly threw bleach in his face. the victim was conscious and talking and told authorities moore fled. authorities believe moore took septa towards upper darby and police nabbed him after stopping the train at the overbrook station.

authorities recovered a knife believed to be used in the crime. moore has cuts on his hands from the fight that required medical attention. school officials say children were not near the incident. police commended the school's response. >> immediately activated the dell pass which is a direct line to the police department initiating the police response and they also went into a lockdown and they followed the procedures in a a very expeditious manner. >> reporter: in an e-mail statement the school announced the firing of the employee who let moore in saying in part everyone on the barack campus is aware of our security protocols and under no circumstances are students or staff permitted to let someone in who does not have a school id. the individual who breached this protocol was released of duties effective immediately. and after the lockdown was lifted school did go back to normal. what is still not clear at this hour is whether or not that former employee moore was fired by the school. for now reporting live in radnor township, annie

mccormick, channel6 "action news." jim. >> thank you annie. philadelphia police have charged the mother they say locked her four children inside the basement of their kensington home. police say the children ages nine to 13 were left there for 12 hours as punishment. today police charged 29-year-old charnae lee with endangering the welfare of a child among other offenses. police were alerted to the home in the 1900 block of east atlantic street yesterday after receiving a 911 call from one of the trapped kids. the death toll has soared to 4,000 in the wake of the earthquake in nepal. more than 7,000 people have been injured. rescue teams are digging through the rubble in the capitol of katmandu looking for more survivors but time is indeed running out. and today the evacuation of hundreds of climbers got under way at base camps on mount everest. 18 people have been killed on the mountain, four of them

americans. an avalanche swept through the camp after the earthquake hit on saturday. there are connections between what's going on in nepal to immediate relief efforts going on in south brunswick new jersey. new jersey correspondent nora muchanic has that story. >> anything and everything. need food, water shelter. >> reporter: the president of friends of nepal new jersey says the needs there are immediate. but instead of collecting food clothing and supplies that could take two months to reach his native country he's focusing on fundraising. his 82-year-old mother, brother and other family members are in shelters right now but alive. we spoke near the tallest buddha statue on the western hemisphere in south brunswick where he told me that rather than rush home to nepal he will try to use his contacts in the rotary club to help raise money for earthquake victims. >> i've been being here i think i can probably do more than being there because

you're going to get frustrated. roads are not working. you cannot -- electricity is not working. >> reporter: his friend charles brian is helping to shape the fundraising effort. >> think about not having a place to live, not having any water. they had water problems before. they're going to have massive water problems now. >> reporter: a 28-year-old new jersey doctor of edison was among those killed in an avalanche after the earthquake. >> we all knew her as a very, you know, outgoing, very innocent and wanted to go out and do good things for people. >> reporter: blare is a geo chronology at princeton university who hiked nepal with a group. >> katmandu an overpopulated city without the infrastructure to handle this kind of disaster so i just feel for everyone that is living there. >> reporter: two fundraisers are planned over the next couple weeks and given the level of devastation in nepal he believes this will be an ongoing effort to help the victims there.

>> city of coatesville chester county marking a major milestone this year. >> ♪♪ >> ♪♪ >> celebrating it's 100th anniversary. coatesville area high school marching band kicked things off at the old train station at fleetwood and third avenue. this is the first in a series of events being held over the next eight months. the effort has officially begun to enlist volunteers for the world meeting of families and the papal visit in september. they will need a whole lot of volunteers. "action news" reporter vernon odom has that story. >> reporter: with the papal visit to philadelphia five months away, the world meeting of families wants 10,000 volunteers to serve as guides and ambassadors to help the millions of pilgrims expected to converge on the city for that week in september. the online registration opened today. you must be 18 or over to volunteer. >> we invite the community

catholics and noncatholics alike to play a critical role in this event and to represent our entire region. >> reporter: officials say it will take four and a half minutes to go to the web site and sign up. then there will be a 24 to 48 hour wait for security clearance. >> we need your help. we need our digital diplomats we need our guest service associates and we need those people who specialize in the operations and logistics 'cause we know how challenging putting the people all over will be for us. >> reporter: dozens of college students from local universities are on board already. and they'll receive training in advance this summer. >> i've been a catholic my entire life born and raised all the way from grade school and when i heard that the pope was coming to philadelphia, i found that i more than had an obligation to try and, you know, get my hand into the circumstances of the events. >> it's important to give back to the community. not everyone has this

>> news from philadelphia. some students in strawberry mansion traded in their pens and pencils for shovels today. strawberry mansion high school students planted a dozen trees on campus. it's all part of plant 1 million, the nation's largest multi state tree planting campaign. it's going to make that block a lot nicer. >> great. >> absolutely. and real warm spring type weather is coming our way. >> is on the way yeah. we've been on the cool side. we'll be climbing out of the chill over the next couple days. storm tracker six live double scan showing despite a good amount of cloud cover this afternoon not a lot of moisture, so we are dry out there and let's go on sky six taking a look at our temple university sky six camera and this shows very nicely that some of those clouds we've been experiencing this afternoon are beginning to break up and we'll see those clouds clearing out as we head through the overnight hours. the accuweather highlights will show that you we are at the end of a stretch of below normal temperatures.

warmer brighter days are ahead but since thursday's temperatures have been below the average high which is 68 degrees we have been typically 7 degrees below average. today's high 60. that's 8 degrees below average. even yesterday with all that sunshine we only hit 64 degrees. but warmer days are ahead and brighter days. so the next two days you got to remember the sunscreen. the u.v. index the next couple days will be just as high as typically mid august. so a lot of times during the summer you think about the sunscreen. you don't think about it late april but a good idea to apply it and reapply it tomorrow. right now temperatures dropping into the 50. 59 degrees in philadelphia. allentown 56. trenton 57. millville 58. reading 55. sea isle city 57 and dover 58 degrees. satellite6 along with action radar showing this low pressure that's been sitting up to our north and east since last week has actually retrograded which means it's moved a little to the west and there's an upper level disturbance moving across western pennsylvania.

that has the showers with it. once that dives south of us overnight we will begin to clear things out and it's going to be a chilly night. lots of clouds early then partly cloudy skies 46 degrees in philadelphia the low, millville 41, reading 42, cape may 47 and wilmington 43 degrees. tomorrow high pressure starts to nudge in from the west but with that low pressure still to the east we get a bit of a wind tunnel effect. so mostly sunny skies, seasonably warm, 69 degrees but it will feel a little bit cooler with winds generally 10 to 20 miles an hour out of the north-northwest. on wednesday we have sinking air, 74 degrees, loads of sunshine. i'm tracking one low pressure surface low and upper level low. these two will combine off the coast of the carolinas on thursday, form a coastal storm. at this point looks like the heavy rain will miss us to the south and east with that storm but we will have some clouds and some occasional showers for the end of the work week. so, the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, nice weather tomorrow.

sunny and seasonably warm with a high of 69 degrees. you like it warmer? wednesday will be your day. loads of sunshine, 74. on thursday we get a flow out of the northeast off the ocean. that will bring us more clouds a-few showers especially along the coast, 65 degrees. on friday breezy, again a few showers. we cool it off even little bit more. 63. but then back into the sunshine for the weekend. saturday 70 degrees, great weather for the philadelphia union game saturday afternoon and sunday nice day to take a 10-mile run down broad street. 76 degrees. a lot of sunshine. looks like temperatures will be in the up are 50's and low 60's during the race and monday 78 degrees. i wouldn't be surprised if monday some folks hit 80 degrees. so, the weekend is looking nice. monday and i'm already looking forward to the weekend. >> i know. live in the moment, cecily. >> okay. >> abc's world news tonight with david muir is next on channel six.
