vived the deadly earthquake. >> good morning, 5:30 now on this tuesday april 28th. karen is off. let's head on over to meteorologist dave murphy and matt pelman who is taking a look at traffic. good morning. >> good morning, everybody. looks like it's going to be a pretty nice one. some left overclouds but most of that is beginning to punch a lot of holes and we're beginning to see a lot of evaporation that of cloud cover. 52 degrees in philadelphia. some of the suburbs in the upper 40's millville at 49, wilmington at 48, 48 in trenton and 49 in allentown. little bit of a breeze blowing down out of the northwest. and as we take a who outside catching that school bus between 6:00 and 8:00 49 by 6 o'clock, 54 by 8 o'clock. little cool, perhaps a little on the breezy side and a few clouds hanging around early. nice tuesday overall for kids heading back to school or if you're just heading to work. 52 degrees on your storm tracker six app right now and up to 54 by 8 o'clock so kind of cool in through here. but 62 by noon and by 3 o'clock 68 and we're going to see a high of 69. that's going to be late in the

day around 4 o'clock 5 o'clock before we slide back to 68 by 6 o'clock. little bit on the breezy side. we have an issue with an enhanced fire danger and this is because of breezes and low humidity so keep that in mind. no flicking the cigarettes out the car window and your pollen count still running a little bit high the next couple of days but we do expect that to drop off a bit on thursday and friday. that's because cooler cloudier and perhaps a little damp weather returns to the region. i'll have details on that coming up in the exclusive accuweather 7-day matt. >> okey-doke david. nothing too traumatic on the traffic front so far on this tuesday morning. construction continues to block the southbound off-ramp to ridge avenue. it's because of the paving work going on along ridge avenue in east falls and those of us who are east falls residents are thankful that that paving work is finally going on. instead of ridge maybe stick with kelly drive or even henry avenue. although if you're on henry avenue by schoolhouse lane there by philadelphia university watch out for more construction today.

that was a mess of a situation yesterday. overnight work zones along the vine street expressway and i-95 have cleared. here is the vine as you head eastbound toward broad street in the ongoing work zone, all three eastbound lanes are reopened. crews will return tonight at 10 o'clock on the eastbound side. they're doing eastbound work tonight and tomorrow night again. we still have the closure in lower providence but the parameters have changed a bit along south park avenue. it's now blocked a shorter stretch between eagleville and falcon road. some of it's reopened but the heart of it still closed. you can stay down on egypt road there by the club at shannon dale maybe use trooper or stay on sunny side avenue as some alternates. there's a work zone to avoid in chester county eastbound side of the turnpike east of morgantown still taking out the right lane there on this tuesday morning. matt and tam. >> thank you, matt. breaking right now chaos continues in portions of baltimore. rioters have set police cars on fire and torched several buildings. >> schools are closed today and residents are being urged to stay in place until officials are able to get a

handle on the situation. let's go on over to that action news reporter erin o'hearn picking up our coverage at the big board. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. parts of baltimore are a war zone this morning and this is new video you see here showing police in riot gear and trying to get the protesters off the streets with fires burning all around them. and we also just received this new video into the "action news" room in the last 30 minutes and as you can see there, that's actually a a rite-aid and it's engulfed in flames. now, this is just one of several fires still burning across baltimore. 15 officers were hurt in the riots and more than two dozen people have been arrested. as we mentioned the governor of maryland has declared a state of emergency and called in the national guard but there are still pockets of unrest in the city that has been overtaken by what mayor stephanie rawlings blake calls thugs. the violence started shortly after high school let out and young people began looting a local mall and liquor store. now i want you to take a look at the video coming up.

this is the police commissioner referred to in it a press conference. this is a mother who confronted her son and confronted him quite aggressively when she realized his intention to join this extraordinarily violent riot. she herself is trying to physically remove him from the scene yelling at him to go home. the commissioner commends her for her efforts. well, the mayor explains when i controlling this situation has been so difficult and community leaders emphasized these riots are discrediting what he supposed to be a peaceful movement and disrespecting the family of freddie gray. >> you have one mother who grabbed their child who had a hood on his head and she started smacking him on the head 'cause she was so embarrassed. i wish high more parents that took charge of their kids out there tonight. >> it is a very delicate balancing act to make sure that you protect right to free speech their trite protest. the fact that people exploited the opportunity to protest with violence and looting

doesn't mean that i don't have a duty to protect people's right to be heard. >> the family was very clear that this was a day of sacred closure in the funeral so for us to come out of the burial and walk into this is absolutely inexcusable. >> now ah at 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. a curfew begins. all public schools are closed today. coming up at 6:00 a.m. we'll show you a little positive nugget a facebook page is dedicated to getting people to help clean up baltimore once things get under control and we'll explain that later. tam. >> thank you for that, rear in. our coverage of the baltimore riots continues on 6abc.com. our kenneth moton is also there in maryland. watch for his reports later today coming up on "action news." >> developing right now, the search for the gunman who shot up four cars on a west philadelphia street. "action news" reporter katherine scott is live where this happened at 60th and jefferson streets. katherine. >> reporter: matt, there's no word on how many shots were

fired but multiple cars were hit here and you can see that police have this block closed off. they have vehicles stationed on either end of the street the scene is taped off. this happened just before 11 o'clock last flight along west jefferson street near 60th in west philadelphia. at least four cars were hit with gunfire. you can see the broken glass if the street from the shattered windows. the motive here is under investigation but police believe the shooter may have been targeting a house on the block. no one was injured in this and so far there's no word if there's any surveillance cameras on any of these homes that can help in this investigation. anyone with tips is asked to call southwest detectives and we are expecting to see investigators back out today to collect evidence in this case that will hopefully find the person behind this. we're live in west philadelphia, katherine scott channel6 "action news." >> thanks katherine. also developing the action cam was in oxford circle as philadelphia police recovered a knife used in an overnight

stabbing. they found it on the 6100 block of castor avenue. the attack happened on the 1400 block of steven street a block away. police say someone slashed a man with a 7-inch blade during a fight, then they say the attacker drove the victim to the hospital where officers arrested him. the victim is in critical condition. this is new video just in from a bar that caught fire in west philadelphia. crews put the flames out quickly at the 63rd street lounge. it is located at cobbs creek parkway and catherine street. no one was hurt. city building inspectors are also on the scene. >> the number of those confirmed dead in saturday's earthquake in nepal now exceeds 4400. a montgomery county couple is relieved that their family members survived the disaster. the rogers' adult children kent and nadine left the comforts of hatboro and moved to nepal. they care for orphans in a small village as part of the nonprofit loving arms mission. when the quake struck this past weekend the parents raced to their computer and found a

facebook post saying their children were safe. >> so relieved. i feel blessed to have been spared the agony of not knowing. >> they don't have a plan right now. they're just living under tarps. >> and indeed with aftershocks still occurring it is not safe in many cases to sleep inside and that's a problem now facing tens of thousands of people in the area who are living in the open without clean water or sanitation. "good morning america" will have the very latest on the rescue and recovery in nepal. that's coming up right after "action news." >> happening today, the beginning of race week in philadelphia. it culminates with the blue cross broad street run on sunday. city officials plan to hold a pep rally at the city hall courtyard at 10:30 this morning. the 10-mile race is so popular organizers hold a lottery for registration. officials will reveal details on the run today which is the country's most popular 10-mile race. wow. >> and let's talk a little bit about weather. looking forward to sunday and the weather that dame looks like it might be a good day.

>> it does. the weekend from start to finish really looks like a winner. as we take a look outside we have storm tracker six live double scan showing you a lack of precipitation and sky six with brightening skies across the region. we do have some clouds overhead early but we expect those to evaporate fairly quickly and so far the breezes, yeah, they're noticeable but not all that strong just yet. temperatures 52 degrees in philadelphia. your winds out of the northwest at 12 miles per hour and probably getting a little bit more blustery as the day goes on. there you see the clouds continuing to thin out and evaporate across the region so they're not going to be really much of a player in your forecast today. overall we're going for mostly sunny skies. 54 degrees by 8 o'clock still kind of cool there. but by 11 o'clock up to 60 and then during the afternoon we'll be in the upper 60's all the way. 67 degrees by 2 o'clock, 69 is your high probably holding off until about 4 o'clock before we hit that and then i could see us still holding onto that 69 by 5 o'clock this afternoon. some urban centers like philadelphia, center city probably get up to 70 today.

68 degrees in allentown, 69 in reading, 67 in trenton and then as you get closer to the shore, low 60's right down along the coast. breezy conditions. mostly sunny skies for all. remember, with that sun up there nice and bright and high temperatures near 70 a lot of you are going to want to go outside and enjoy some of this. i will remind you that the u.v. index is running high not only today but tomorrow as well and you want to remember that sunscreen if you're going to be out for an extended period of time. and then tomorrow we'll start out sunny there. may be more clouds building as the day goes on. this is the 1 o'clock in the afternoon view on future tracker six. after that we'll be watching a system to our south that's going to begin to formulate some showers create an area of low pressure that will shoot off to the northeast and go past the east coast and we're going to be generally cooler cloudier on thursday and friday and we could pick up a little bit of shower activity, maybe some drizzle. your exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast sunny and breezy today with a high of 69. tomorrow sun giving way to perhaps a few more clouds but still pretty nice with a high of 74. then we're back to 67 on

hank's place this morning here in chadds ford it's nice and quiet so far along route one baltimore pike at creek road . in fact, there is -- oh, there goes -- we found one much we've got a new closure coming to route 23 and a new crash on 422 after break. >> we have some pretty incredible video showing storm gusts toppling a train off the tracks. >> ♪♪ >> welcome back. you're taking a live look here out across center city. pretty start to your tuesday here. it is 5:44, 51 degrees. >> going outside of the city limits to the suburbs, matt. >> yes, we're venturing out so that we can see how things are for people venturing in to the city from the suburbs on this tuesday morning with the suburban traffic report. so far pretty good. just some people stopped at a traffic light here in conshohocken. these are the people coming out of conshohocken along fayette street waiting by the marriott to make the turn onto route 23 by the mcdonald's. the roads nice and dry. we see a little bit of traffic out there but no big deal at this point. speaking of 23, here in west conshohocken it's going to be closed next week, monday through thursday between front street and 320 for some gas main repairs. that's going to be a big deal and of course that's not our only chunk of 23 that's closed. last week we started the closure of the route 23 bridge in schuylkill township over

pickerring creek. that one lasting through the end of the year. i hope your detouring is going well. i know it's been a pain there in schuylkill township. 422 word of a new crash this morning eastbound approaching route 29. the good news is it's off to the side so not impacting the traffic a whole lot at this point but yesterday morning's truck accident and fire in lower providence is still closing a chunk of south park avenue between eagleville and falcon road. so, again, the alternates include egypt road by audubon elementary. you could use trooper or maybe sunny side avenue to get around that ongoing blockage we're watching. in burlington county don't forget as of last week the centerton road bridge over rancocas creek is now closed. problems with the bridge there. 295 your alternate looking fine this morning. let's pull in the waze app do the commuter report. if you're headed to trenton this morning so far so good along 295 195 129 29, no issues at this point. matt. >> thank you matt. another round of severe weather is expected to move through the northern gulf

states today. thousands of people in louisiana still don't have power from yesterday's storms. here's some video out of jefferson parish demonstrating the sheer power of this storm system. the winds blew several cars, train cars off a bridge. the rail cars were empty and didn't contain any hazardous materials. >> resume at a washington state high school where a teacher tackled a student who a a gun. brady olson raced toward the 16-year-old student before any shots were fired. detectives say the teen shooter may have wanted to be shot and killed by the school's resource officer because he never aimed his weapon at anyone firing instead into the ceiling and the floor. the young man is now in juvenile detention. grief counselors will be on campus today. and this new video will make your heart skip a beat especially if you're a parent. a speeding souvenirly plowed into three children just about to board their school bus in washington state. and their mothers were there watching in shock.

emergency and schools are closed today. riots erupted yesterday following the funeral of freddie gray, the man who died after suffering mysterious injuries while in police custody. violent mobs outraged over police brutality attacked officers, stripped stores clean and sent buildings and squat cars onofre. baltimore's mayor has imposed a city wide curfew beginning tonight at 10:00 p.m. maryland's governors called in the national guard to try to restore order to this city. >> hopefully they can get everything under control soon. as we head out this morning in montgomeryville looking good so far this morning right by the montgomery mall along 309 at dekalb pike. not a whole lot of people out yet. we have seen construction crews along 42 in bellmawr camden county covering up that construction sign. you see them there bottom right corner of the 15. the sign talked about some work along creek road but they're hanging the plaque sheet over it so i guess that's a good thing if you want to drive along creek road. mass transit on the riff line trains -- river line trains

running every flirt minutes. david. >> a little better than yesterday we're up close to 50 out in pottstown, 47 saint davids warrington and quakertown. 50 on the nose in chester and center city. in south jersey a lot of mid to upper 40's and upper 40's up and down the state of delaware. if you're planning on running errands today it will be cool early but you'll have bright sunshine 56 degrees. this afternoon is actually going to get kind of mild. we'll have a pretty good breeze running at 12 to 25 miles per hour but we're going to see a high of 69 degrees around 4 o'clock. we'll be in the upper 60's most of the afternoon. matt and tam. >> thank you david. a ufc champion posted bail in connection to a hit and run crash that sent a pregnant woman to the hospital. jon jones has been charged with a felony for sunday's crash in albuquerque new mexico. he reportedly ran off but came back to the vehicle to grab a handful of cash out of the rental car. officers found marijuana in the vehicle. jones is scheduled to defend his title next month in las

vegas. a chicago bar has come under fire for a two way mirror in the women's bathroom. a comedian with the stage name tamale rocks made the discovery and posted it on youtube. the bar's manager confirmed there has been a two way mirror in the ladies' room since 2001 but he defended it saying its just one of many novelties in the place and claims that no one is behind the mirror looking in. police did show up to the bar yesterday but they didn't say why. >> 5:53. the u.s. supreme court takes up a polarizing issue today. a preview at 6:00 a.m. >> developing notify night dramatic new video just in showing an overnight rescue in earthquake ravaged nepal. one of six things to know. that's just ahead in our next half hour.
