>> ♪♪ >> breaking on "action news" the curfew has just lifted in baltimore. we're monitoring the efforts to maintain the peace. >> a philadelphia landlord makes a deadly discovery when he checks on a tenant who hadn't been seen or heard from in weeks. >> frightened passengers flee a plane that caught fire prior to an emergency landing at philadelphia international airport. >> good morning everyone, its 5:30, it is wednesday, karen is off, dave murphy is here along with matt pelman. >> it's a good morning out there. little cool but look at the lack of cloud cover. we're going to see plenty of sunshine up over the horizon and through the day it should maintain fairly bright conditions. as we take a look at temperatures we're down to 51 in philadelphia, 51 in trenton, 45 in allentown. these numbers have really dropped a lot just in the last hour or so.

41 in millville. and still holding 53 in sea isle city. as we catch that bus this morning, looks like it's going to be fairly comfortable. we'll probably be back up to 54 by 6 o'clock and then 57 by 8 o'clock. mainly clear skies and on the comfortable side with winds not all that strong. a warm wednesday for you this afternoon. by noon, we'll be up to 70 and then 75 by 3 o'clock with a high of 76 degrees probably sliding right in there around 4 o'clock. by 6 o'clock we'll still be holding onto the mid 70's. the pollen counter today running rather high today. over the next several days we'll see it descend a little bit particularly friday as we get a cool flow off the ocean. and the reason we're going to get that is because of an area of low pressure that right now is beginning to form and starting to charge up some rain in the southern states. as this low gets off the coast and deepens moving off to the northeast we'll get a little bit of rain out of this. i'll show you how much and the center of that cool air coming up in the accuweather 7-day forecast. matt. >> all right david, here in center city the construction

crews have been running a little bit late this morning. on the eastbound side of the vine street expressway just off the schuylkill they're still out here and still just the right lane of traffic is opened headed toward broad street meaning we are seeing a little bit of slowing now coming off of the schuylkill expressway eastbound. hopefully they clear out shortly. we see them moving around a little bit. we'll keep our eyes on this. tonight they're going to show some love to the westbound side and do westbound construction starting at 10 o'clock. meanwhile no construction now on 95. cleared out from the overnight at cottman avenue. schuylkill expressway looks good. we're watching a new crash reports of in it upper darby along state road at lansdowne avenue. and we still have that water main break by bryn mawr college along new gulph road at morris avenue. in paoli by the walgreens and the 7-eleven there's a downed tree this morning along lancaster avenue. that of course is route 30 at 252. and midday construction will close newtown road in east town township. in middletown township bucks county downed wires this morning are blocking business

one at bristol oxford valley road. stay up on route one the super highway instead. overnight construction in the process of clearing out on the westbound turnpike near bensalem. for now right lane remains blocked there. tam. >> thank you matt. this is breaking now. the first night of a week long curfew in baltimore was a rather peaceful one. that curfew lifted just 30 minutes ago. let's go to the big board to erin o'hearn. she's got the latest. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, tam. the city got off to a rough start late last night. officers did make some arrests when people in the streets were throwing bricks and rocks at officers. the crowd, though, then lessened after police deployed pep pell pellets and smoke canisters. from that point on police did have the city under control. now you can tell from these scenes that the night again started off unstable but the situation didn't get close to escalating to the kind of violence we saw monday night into tuesday morning. many residents volunteers and community leaders vowed to keep peace in the city of baltimore saying freddie gray, the 25-year-old whose death sparked such outrage would not

want this to happen to his city. residents spent yesterday cleaning up the aftermath of those violent riots saying that the riots broke their hearts but now they are proud. the police commissioner echoed those feelings. >> major events earlier in the evening. we had a group march down to the downtown area to city hall. we had no major issues with that. we had a small group within that group about four to five people that we stopped and had a conversation with but allowed them to proceed on. that group had no issues. very proud of them. they came down, did first amendment rights and went back and returned to the area that they had come from. >> reporter: for now the curfew will remain in effect for a week and authorities say the national guard will continue to patrol the streets. however, schools are opened today. now, coming up at 5:00; at 6 o'clock we'll highlight positive images and how

residents are taking control back of their city. >> thank you for that. we're watching the unrest in ferguson, missouri. reports that two separate shootings wounded two people near demonstrations against police. crowds had gathered near the site where an officer killed michael brown last year. gunfire hit one person in the leg. the other shot in the neck. at least one person is under arrest. we'll stay on top of this developing story. we'll bring you any updates as the morning goes on. >> the lawyer for a family who filed a long full death lawsuit against the philadelphia police plan to discuss the lawsuit today. police shot and killed brandon tate brown in december. his parents filed the suit claiming police planted evidence to make it appear as if their son was reaching for a gun. district attorney seth williams did not charge the officers saying surveillance video corroborated their version of what happened. the city has not commented on the litigation. happening today, a local restaurant will hold a day long fundraiser for the family of slain philadelphia police officer robert wilson, iii. he was shot and killed last

month when robbers barged into a north philadelphia game stop. johnny's fine italian cuisine is raising money for his family including wilson's two young sons. it has a 30-dollar special today from 11:00 a.m. to 9 p.m. the restaurant is at conley and harbison avenues in the city's wissinoming section. two men are charged with wilson's murder. developing overnight the search for the gunman who invaded a home and robbed temple university students. the action cam was on the scene early this morning on the 1500 block of north 13th street in north philadelphia. police say the robber may have entered the residence from the rear and stole cash and marijuana. no students were hurt and the robber fled. temple put out an alert for students on campus. >> philadelphia police hope to learn more today about what they labeled a suspicious death. a landlord discovered the body of a 39-year-old man in the man's apartment in frankford yesterday. neighbors on the 1600 block of wakeling street had reported an odor so the landlord checked on the man. police say the body was badly decomposed.

investigators have not released the man's name but they say no one had heard from him in weeks. >> unknown at this time whether or not it's a homicide unknown at this time whether or not there is foul play. but our detectives will investigate. >> the medical examiner will try to figure out why the man died during an autopsy that's scheduled for today. a two car hit and run crash in mantua critically injured one driver. philadelphia police are looking for the other one. the action cam was there at&t as medics placed the victim in an ambulance at 39th and mount vernon streets last night. the other driver sped away from the scene. >> 5:37. a midair fire on a raleigh to newark flight led to an emergency landing at philadelphia international airport. the republic airlines flight operating as united air express diverted to phl yesterday afternoon. one of the plane's prop engines caught fire mid flight. firefighters surrounded flight 4882 moments after landing. brian giordano captured cell phone video as more than 70 people on board hustled out of

the plane. >> it was a little tense because they prepped us for a crash, so, you know, it was -- they went through the routine and made sure we knew how to position ourselves and if they called out brace, brace, that's what we were supposed to do. >> passengers commended the pilot and crew for keeping everyone calm and landing safely. one passenger who has a history of heart issues complained of chest issues and was taken to the hospital. >> time now for accuweather and if you can take your workout outside, today is the day to do it. >> yeah, it is just bring along the sunscreen. storm tracker six live double scan, we've got no precipitation out there. taking a further look outside and sky six starting to look kind of bright down the shore. camera rocking a little bit but the winds overall are fairly light this morning. 51 degrees in philadelphia. so typically cool for this time of year and about where we were yesterday. dewpoint 38. the winds west-southwest at just 6 miles per hour in philadelphia, so again, the breeze is on the light side. any cloud cover we had overnight really kicked out

and we're starting out with lots of sun. through the day like yesterday you'll probably see some fair weather cumulus or at least high cloud cover popping through. generally it will stay bright and obviously getting warm. 57 by 8 o'clock. 11 o'clock 68 and by 2 o'clock, 73 with a high of 76 hitting rather late in the afternoon, probably around 4 o'clock. in fact by 5 o'clock we'll still be holding onto the mid 70's so a very nice afternoon ahead. and high temperatures away from the shore all looking pretty warm. 74 in allentown, 75 in reading, 74 in trenton, 76 in wilmington. right down along the coast low to mid 60's but even these aren't bad numbers. especially when you consider how bright and nice it's going to be. as i mentioned a moment ago it is a great day to keep that sunscreen handy with highs in the 70's and lots of sun you're going to want to be drawn outside but remember the u.v. index is running high so you'll want to protect your skin today. tomorrow we're keeping our eyes on a coastal low pressure center that will be forming off the coast and then joining with a secondary piece of energy to kind of double up and deepen off shore.

thursday will get a little bit cloudier. chance of a shower very slight tomorrow. by friday that low will be deepening and there's a chance of a couple more showers popping in. i think this low is going to be far enough away from us though where the impact is pretty minimal and that would be just some real spotty precipitation around. your exclusive accuweather seven days, nice and warm today. no problems with any precip. 76 is going to be your high. tomorrow clouds with some sunny breaks a high of 70. mainly dry. and then friday breezy conditions and here's where we really see a change in the forecast. with that low off the coast and cool air zooming in off that cool ocean water, we'll only get a high of about 59. so, those cool conditions that we felt for a lot of the spring haven't totally gone away. for one day we're going to feel it again and again a shower is possible here or there on friday especially down the coast but on saturday that storm's gone. we recover to 68 in the afternoon, partly sunny skies. it will be a good looking day. the union home at 4 o'clock in the afternoon. that game televised right here on 6abc and that will be great weather if you're headed to

road close to rising sun avenue in bustleton. so, at this point avoid krewstown. maybe stay over on bustleton avenue as your alternate. all right, let's get suburban now on this hump day morning. time for the suburban traffic report. on the pennsylvania turnpike still watching some westbound construction this morning past bensalem taking out the right lane. so, you see there the speeds are just in the 30's as you head toward that work zone and we still have the closure in middletown township of business one lincoln highway by the pep boys and buffalo wild wings at bristol oxford valley road. maybe use one to get around that local blockage. construction coming to welsh road in horsham. they'll close it like they have the last couple wednesdays between mckean road and tennis avenue. stay on norristown road to get around that road work. going a little bit north on the northeast extension our overnight road work cleared. everything reopened there and the debris that we had along bethlehem pike near trewigtown road there by the delaware valley dance academy is also gone.

today is international dance day so appropriate day to mention the delaware valley dance academy. this is the blue route 476 in delco right by 95 looking good. no problems in either direction. as we do the commuter report in delaware getting reports of a minor crash along dupont highway. route 13 near new castle. matt. >> matt thanks so much. let's get more on that crash that you just mentioned matt. a multi vehicle crash involving a philadelphia police patrol vehicle. this happened in a wooded area along krewstown road nearly a gone avenue in the city's bustleton section less than an hour ago. the officer and the patrol car suffered minors injuries. we're checking on the conditions of the other driver's. "action news" reporter katherine scott is headed to the scene so we'll bring you more information and video when she arrives. emotions ran high at the scene of a double shooting in wilmington delaware. a large crowd gathered on the 600 block of west sixth street last night where police found two women wounded by gun shots. paramedics performed cpr on the victims right on the sidewalk. a canine dog bit an officer on

play for fun. cash for life. there's over two hundred thousand students in philadelphia. jim kenney and tony williams are fighting over public schools versus charters. i think they're both wrong...it's making sure they all get a good education. teachers should have their contracts respected. they also should be held accountable. and it's wrong philadelphia gets less school funding than other parts of pennsylvania. i'll work with harrisburg to change that. but if they refuse i'll take them to federal court.

afternoon. it's going to be a great afternoon to get stuff done. 70 by noon, 75 by 3 o'clock. your high 76 probably around 4 o'clock. light winds today tam. >> thank you david. coming unhere, the u.s. supreme court will consider today banning a drug used in some executions. this will come exactly one year after a botched lethal injection in oklahoma. attorneys for other oklahoma death row inmates are set to ask supreme court justices to outlaw a sedative used in a procedure. such a ruling could force states to either find new execution drugs or change the way in they put prisoners to death. demonstrators gathered outside the supreme court. the supreme court appears to be divide the on the issue. justice anthony kennedy will likely cast the deciding vote in the case. questions during oral arguments kennedy seems to be leaning toward approval of gay marriage. >> 5:53.

later got back into the dodge and took off. the elderly woman was treated forehead injuries. she is now out of the hospital. >> a man was caught on camera stealing from a bucks county church. this is surveillance video from the break in at the nativity of our lord which urge in warminster monday night. you can see the suspect take cash out of poor boxes. father angelo san tino says they had been emptied the day before. he doesn't believe there was a lot money inside to take in the first place. a reading man behind bars accused of stuffing two packages of stolen ground beef down his pants. a loss prevention officer caught angel ayala at the rednor's on north fifth street in reading. police say he's a known heroin addict. he's facing retail theft and other charges. >> we continue to follow the latest developments in baltimore. new jersey state troopers have just arrived to help keep the peace and they're sharing new image from the scene. >> breaking overnight a car thief crashes an suv in southwest philadelphia. the new video just in to the news room is up next.
