people are expressing support for freddie gray, a man that died in the custody of baltimore police. and they are speaking out about police brutality. we are expecting them to leave this current location of dillworth park, the big story on "action news" tonight is philadelphians gathering to express support in baltimore. "action news" reporter sara bloomquist is live at city hall, lets go first to reporter dann cuellar, who is among the crowd since this began. what is going on right now? >> reporter: jim, they are hearing a number of speakers, a crowd gathered on the northwest corner of city hall and they are denouncing police brutality and showing solidarity for baltimore

and freddie gray who died while in police custody. they want to stand up for the people of baltimore who are rising up against what they say are racist police and point to the high-profile killings of michael brown in ferguson missouri, and jerome reed killed in new jersey. they are standing with baltimore to show they are against racism of any type. pretty much peaceful demonstration, they intent to march here later and right now they are gathered making speeches and anyone can go up there and make a speech. this is the latest from city hall. i'm dann cuellar, channel 6 "action news." >> thank you dan. lets switch live to "action news" reporter sara bloomquist, what did organizers philly is baltimore hope to accomplish.

>> they hope to draw comparisons to the city of baltimore and philadelphia, and get attention when it comes to social issues especially employees community relations. lets go to the video here, the crowd is growing as the demonstration started an hour and a half ago and it is billed as philly is baltimore. they are aiming to show solidarity with baltimore and show similarities with the two cities and they are speaking out about other issues like unemployment and low wages. >> a lot of what is going on now is social change in the process and i feel like i need to support that, positive social change. i need to be a part of this, i care about my friends of african decent and i feel like what is happening to them in america with police brutality is

stay there a while longer. their employment is extended until tuesday. there are breaking developments into the death of freddie gray, they are telling us that gray's fatal injuries happened in the police transport van and the medical examiner says the head injury matched the bolt in the back of the van. it's unclear why his head swlamed nootd side of vehicle. david muir will have more on today's developments from baltimore that is next on channel 6. the alleged hit and run driver struck and hit a temple student came forward today. david henry is live at park and diamond, the scene of the accident at the temple campus.

the student remains in critical condition and the hit and run driver that ran her down at this intersection has confessed but he has not been charged yesterday. >> he gave a statement and said he panicked because he only had a permit and left. >> rachel hall was rider her bike when she was hit last night and the driver stopped briefly and took off. late last night they got a call from the teen's father and found the car where it was parked. >> the car was called in by the owner, so everybody cooperated the owner and the owner's wife and the son cooperated. >> they say he turned himself in this morning, rachel hall is an honor student majoring in

criminal justice and is a goal keeper for the lacrosse team at temple. the police say that the driver that hit her would have been much better if he had stopped instead of running. >> the best thing is just to stop, in many crashes it's not always the driver's fault stop and pull over and call the police, and we'll do a report and probably won't get arrested if there is nothing wrong. >> these are tragic consequences for both and the young victim lying in critical condition just a week away from graduation and the young driver now looking at the possibility of a jail term. live in north philadelphia, david henry channel 6 "action news." >> thank you david. a camden county police officer rescued an infant left in a hot car this morning, the officer was working a detail at td bank, and she noticed that

the screaming babe and side of car was in a cvs parking lot next door, the officer had to break the window to get to the 4-month-old who was sweating profusely, the infant is okay tonight and officers arrested the mother she now faces charges of child endangerment. monsignor william lynn is back behind bars, a judge revoked his bail and ordered him back to jail. he was found guilty of child endangerment in 2012 and that was thrown out in appeals court and today they reinstated the conviction and lynn was on house arrest since january 2014. coming up on "action news" king kong is making a return to the jersey shore the new ride a nod to the sentimental favorite in north wildwood. >> i'm tracking a cool start to

there's over two hundred thousand students in philadelphia. jim kenney and tony williams are fighting over public schools versus charters. i think they're both wrong...it's making sure they all get a good education. teachers should have their contracts respected. they also should be held accountable. and it's wrong philadelphia gets less school funding than other parts of pennsylvania. i'll work with harrisburg to change that. but if they refuse i'll take them to federal court. as mayor i'll do what's right for them.

chopper 6 hd is live over center city where philly is baltimore is now on the move. these 500 to 600 demonstrators are moving around city hall -- right now moving in the direction of where broad street goes up against city hall, whether they will turn right on

broad street is unclear at this point, well there they go they are traveling on to south broad street, what their destination is we don't know but we'll follow them as they make their way down south broad street and we'll go with them to where their destination will be. needless to say there will be traffic issues on south broad street as 500 to 600 people now make their way down the avenue of the arts. we'll be back in touch with them. a philadelphia police officer was injured in a crash in frankford this morning. the accident happened this morning at 6:30 at the 4700 block of takomacony street. police did not say what caused the car to ram a red minivan and the officer suffers minor injuries. the college has named its 17th president he is s. brock

chopper 6 continues its journey over center city philadelphia and so do members of philly is baltimore. they are now marching on locust street having turned on to locust from south broad street again we don't know what their final destination will be we also know that a smaller group of demonstrators actually went north and broad street where they will headed we don't know.

everything seems to be peaceful and in control with this demonstration in center city philadelphia tonight. lets get the latest from accuweather and meteorologist cecily tynan and a cool and cloudy start to may and it won't stay that way. good news for the weekend, stormtracker 6 live double scan showing there are showers west of the viewing area, the closest ones on lancaster moving to the west, just increasing clouds, looking live at the center city skyline and filtered sunshine on the clouds tonight and temperatures really drop and were quickly cooling off we reached a high of 72 degrees by this afternoon and down to 65 and now 61 degrees and feeling even cooler than that with a stiff east wind at 5 miles per hour millville 62 degrees and millville did see a shower and

trenton 57 and wilmington 64 and along the beaches, temperatures close to the ocean temperature 52 degrees and the boardwalk in atlantic city, 53 and that ocean will have a big influence in our weather tomorrow. satellite 6 along with action radar showing you see this swirl, an upper level low over the ohio valley this will be dropping down to the south and meet up with a surface low and form a coastal system but we won't get a direct hit with this, we get an easterly wind, and that pulls in the clouds and cool conditions and temperatures are dropping down into the 40s, a chilly night 48 in philadelphia and 48 in allentown and 46 in millville and 46 in trenton, lots of clouds and an isolated shower is possible this evening, most areas are dry, tomorrow not a horrible day lots of clouds and breaks of sunshine and not a lot of shower activity and scattered showers

north of philadelphia definitely on the cool side and 52, by 11:00 57 and by 5:00 62 degrees if you like things warm we will not stay on the cool side sunday through tuesday a bermuda high creating the heat pump out of the southwest. near 80 on sunday into the low 80s on monday and mid-80s on tuesday. the warmest weather so far this year. for the broad street run on sunday it's looking dry and warm for runners pretty nice conditions at 8:00 when the race starts mostly sunny and 58 degrees and warms up to 64 degrees by 9:30 and by 11:00 68 degrees and a tail wind light at 6 miles per hour, winds are not a factor in the race. have a good race, i'll be out there at the channel 6 water
