about freddie gray's death. according to a report obtained by the associated press a police lieutenant who helped arrest ray earlier last month had been hospitalized in 2012 for mental health issues. the van that transported gray made several unscheduled stops for unknown reasons. a second prisoner in the vehicle has been dismissed a washington post article that reported he heard gray intentionally hurting himself. medical evidence shows gray suffered a massive injury to the back of the head which closely matches a bolt in the back of a police van. around here it was fairly peaceful nearly one thousand people gathered to show support for baltimore in the wake of gray's death. katherine scott is live at city hall with the latest. >> reporter: good morning, tam this started at yesterday's afternoon it started in the

evening, there were on a handsful of arrests and no serious injuries and nothing was reported broken. the protest stretched into the night, hundreds took to the streets in center city to show solidarity with baltimore in the wake of the fatal injuries stained by freddie gray while in police custody. >> we want to show that we have compassion with the city of brotherlily love we feel for all the families of all these victims and we want the violence to stop. >> reporter: but there were tense moments, police horses were spooked as protesters tried to march through them. officer tried to hold them back, pro he recalls threw bottles and other objects at police. several arrests were made. >> it got dicey around broad and vine. they wanted to get on the highway, that's not safe for them or the motorists. >> reporter: police say in the
