law. she said back on april 12th gray was illegally arrested and assaulted and mosby says officers failed to get gray medical help. she also says gray's death a week later from an unexplained spinal injury was a homicide. baltimore's mayor also reacted today to the charges. >> i heard your call for no justice, no peace. your peace is sincerely needed as i work to deliver justice on behalf of this young man. >> there will be justice for mr. gray. there will be justice for his family and there will be justice for the people of baltimore. >> five officers are in custody tonight and face charges of involuntary manslaughter assault and illegal arrest. the driver of the van that carried gray to the station who is also an officer is charged with second degree murder. >> "action news" reporter vernon odom live in center city for us with local reaction to those charges in baltimore. vernon, good evening. >> reporter: good evening, monica. of course there was a loud

demonstration here at city hall to begin here in city hall last night. it is a far different contrasting scene in dillworth park right outside city hall. as you can see behind me and they just arrived a few seconds ago -- >> hoping it has a positive effect. i'm going to think that it will. we don't have any information right now of any planned protests. >> reporter: chief inspector joe sullivan reacting to today's bust of the six baltimore cops. sullivan hopes it will quell passions some. sullivan was second in command during last night's solidarity are you baltimore demonstration here in philadelphia. he was in fact slightly injured during a late dustup which saw three demonstrators arrested. >> whatever problems occurred out there were very small minority of people. that was a very large demonstration and it had been going on for several hours and went on -- it went on for several hours before the incident without any problems and it continued on for several more hours without any

today's announcement. you can also find our coverage of the large philly is baltimore rally with dozens of photos from our "action news" team. it's all there right now at 6abc.com. >> a former worker with the port authority of new york and new jersey pleaded guilty today for his involvement in the so-called bridgegate. david wildstein made his plea at the federal courthouse in newark. wildstein admited to engineering the shutdown of access lanes at the george washington bridge for several days back in september of 2013. it brought traffic to a halt in fort lee. wildstein said in court the move was political payback for that town's mayor who did not endorse governor christie for reelection. christie denies any involvement with the plot and the governor is not expected to be charged. >> a homeowner in northeast philadelphia takes to social media in hopes of catching a shrubbery thief. the suspect was seen on the homeowners' surveillance camera ripping a large bush

right out of the front lawn. "action news" reporter john rawlings is live in the neighborhood where it all happened and john you talked with that homeowner. >> reporter: yes, we did rick. and as you might imagine she had some choice boards for the man that you see in that video. the item the shrub is about 5 feet in diameter we're told, it was about a foot hite high until yesterday at about 2 o'clock in the afternoon it used to reside right there. >> he's a true idiot. he's low. he's low. >> reporter: frankly this is a story you won't believe without the video. thursday afternoon a man arrives in a white pickup truck that appears to have greenery in the back. he gets out. checks no one is at home and then attacks and starts literally ripping out a juniper bush that has been clipped and trimmed as ground hugging topiary. we have speed owed up the video here to show the entire crime. homeowner michelle is upset. she has tended the shrubs since she and her husband planted them 15 years ago.

sunday's blue cross broad street run. ross martin a philadelphia runner is a former elite runner. we asked him for some last minute tips over the weekend. number one drink water. >> if you stay hydrated going into it you'll feel a lot better i think on race day. >> reporter: he also says with more than 40,000 runners expected, plan on getting to the starting line early. as for food the day before and morning of,. >> really just want to eat something that you know is going to be good with your body and good with your stomach. >> reporter: and while you shouldn't make any big changes to your regimen before sunday ross says wicking or breathable socks are worth it as is anti-chafing because. >> sports bras ever chafed you, blisters on your feet, guys on your chest this is amazing. >> reporter: other runners shared their advice for race day. >> definitely hydrate.

reading showing we have a lot of clouds up above but a lot of them are thin and they're allowing some filtered sunshine so it wasn't a completely gray day but it's definitely a lot cooler than yesterday. yesterday's high 72. currently in philadelphia it's 61 degrees. allentown 63. wilmington 61. millville 60 and with wind off the ocean the ocean temperature in a low 50's, it is definitely chilly on the beaches, 49 degrees currently in sea isle city and the boardwalk in atlantic city. so a new month month of may typically our average high for the first 69 degrees so we're running well below that but if you fast forward to the end of the month it warms up very quickly. the average high for the end of may up to 78 degrees but we don't have to wait that long to get that warmth. that warmth will be arriving on sunday and really most of next week temperatures around that and it's tip pick al pretty wet movement the average rainfall 3.71-inches. satellite6 along with action

radar showing as expected most of the rain from this coastal storm really missing us to the south. that low pressure will continue to push to the north and the east in the overnight hours so that means it will be partly cloudy, it will be seasonably cool. overnight low 48 degrees in philadelphia, 40 in millville 44 in allentown, 45 in wilmington and 44 degrees in trenton. heading into saturday, future tracker showing that we have a little bit of an upper level disturbance moving through in the afternoon. so this will bring us partly cloudy skies and you'll notice just a few spotty showers most of our region will be rain free but don't be surprised if you get a quick shower in the afternoon as that moves through but then high pressure really taking control on sunday. nothing but sunshine on sunday and temperatures rising up into the upper 70's. so, for the 40,000 runners running down broad street on sunday morning good luck and don't wear too many clothes because it will be cool. at 8 o'clock 58 degrees, by nine a-30, 64. by 11:00 68 degrees.

>> hello again and here's what's happening on "action news" tonight. two cargo vehicles seemingly disappeared in three days. prompting philadelphia police to issue a warning. and we'll explain why. firefighters spring into action when a home bursts into flames here in montgomery county. plus a crook with a sweet tooth targets a familiar summertime vendor and now police need your help tracking him down. >> and now the details. two cargo vehicles were reported missing from rental lots sunday and that's concerning police. while they may look nonthreatening investigators say vehicles like these could be used for criminal activity. and now authorities are sounding the alarm. "action news" reporter eva pilgrim is live in hunting park with all the details. >> reporter: it's a combo police just don't like, two missing cargo vehicles and several big events this weekend have police asking for your help to find them. they want to find these vehicles just to be safe. thousands of people are

expected to pour into center city this weekend for the broad street run. two cargo trucks like these are missing and that has police on edge. >> certainly we don't like the idea of two vehicles of this nature being unaccounted for. >> reporter: sunday a van like this a-white ford e250 with arizona tag ag30928 was taken. an employee at this west hunting park avenue u-haul tells me he rented it to a plan on sunday who came in alone. the van was supposed to be returned monday but that never happened. police now saying that van was rented by a homeless man at the request of strangers. >> he was approached here in center city. he was asked if he had good identification, which he stated he did. >> reporter: he was taken to a td bank and given money to open up an account with a debit card. this is a picture of one of the men police are looking for, escorting him into the bank. he was then taken to the u-haul to get the van. >> they said that they would meet up with him later to

return the van and at which time he would be paid. needless to say he was never contacted again and the van is not yet been recovered. >> reporter: then on tuesday police found out a truck like this yellow 2015e350 high top cargo truck was stolen from a south philadelphia penske shop. the truck has indiana plate 224-5222. police say with two cargo vehicles missing in just a week, they aren't taking any chances. >> we saw a pattern develop and it's in its early stages but as i said out of ababundance of caution we're going to ask you to help us. >> reporter: if you know anything about either missing vehicle or if you recognize the man in the picture you're asked to contact police. now, at this time police say there's no evidence that these two cases are connected or that any kind of terrorism motive would be involved but they do want to find these two vehicles as you heard the officer say out of an abundance of caution.

we're live in hunting park, eva pilgrim channel6 "action news." >> thank you eva. montgomery county detectives now say a woman in montgomery township died as a result of a murder-suicide. 36-year-old brianna francisco was found with a gunshot wound at the entrance of her home in the 800 block of karen's court last night and she later died at the hospital. officers found the body of 58-year-old leroy wilson inside. he died of a self inflicted gunshot wound. police say he and francisco both lived there. the motive remains unclear. meantime to a story our delaware news room has been following for you. two men are in custody after a deadly shooting at the pine grove apartments in dover yesterday. authorities found the victim, 19-year-old deshawn friend at the scene with multiple gun shot wounds. they have since arrested 27-year-old chante robinson and 30-year-old james white. the motive is unclear but both suspects are facing first degree murder charges. >> pennsylvania attorney general kathleen kane standing behind her cleve of staff.

this after he was accused of sexual area has. a spokesperson for kane tells "action news" that she "has no intentions of removing jonathan duecker from his post. female prosecutor kuk says he made unwanted sexual advances last february and she says she reported the incident to her superiors. she also adds he was promoted to chief of staff after she came forward. kane's spokesperson told "action news" that duekcer has different interpretations of the event. a seconds woman has also come forward with similar accusations. this is philadelphia university security worker john forbes. he's under arrest tonight for allegedly possessing and distributing child upon nothing gravy. detectives say forbes watched and shared explicit images online at his home in wayne delaware county. he's now being held on $75,000 bail and will appear in court next week. a fire in the row home prompted a large response from firefighter here in pottstown

montgomery county late this afternoon. the fire broke out in the unit block of east second street. the flames were threatening a neighboring home at one point. no one was hurt in this two alarm blaze. >> philadelphia police are looking for a thief who targeted a popular summertime vendor in juniata park. investigators released this surveillance video of a man targeting several mister softee ice cream trucks. it happened in the 900 block of east like coaming street. the suspect forced this way into several trucks and took money and ice cream. if you recognize the thief authorities would like to hear from you. police are also looking for the thief who stole from a car parked in south philadelphia last month. authorities say this suspect cased vehicles that were parked in the 600 block of south 27th street and the 2600 block of bainbridge street. he then found a car with an unlocked back door and took several items from the back seat. if you recognize this suspect please contact investigators. and of course whenever

there's over two hundred thousand students in philadelphia. jim kenney and tony williams are fighting over public schools versus charters. i think they're both wrong...it's making sure they all get a good education. teachers should have their contracts respected. they also should be held accountable. and it's wrong philadelphia gets less school funding than other parts of pennsylvania. i'll work with harrisburg to change that. but if they refuse i'll take them to federal court. as mayor i'll do what's right for them.

>> ♪♪ >> "action news." delaware valley's leading news program. with ducis rodgers meteorologist cecily tynan and jim gardner. >> ♪♪ >> they are celebrating in the streets of baltimore. this is the same neighborhood where anger exploded earlier this week but tonight it is a very different scene. and that's because six baltimore police officers have been arrested in the death of freddie gray. all six are in custody. the big story on "action news" is quick action taken against the six officers involved in the arrest and transport of freddie gray. just one day after the completion of an investigation

and one day after the medical examiner's report, baltimore's state's attorney, marilyn mosby, said the death of freddie gray was a homicide and his treatment in custody amounted to murder and manslaughter. six police officers have been charged in the incident. the most serious counts levied against the driver of the van in which gray suffered the fractured spine that would kill him. officer caesar goodson jr. charged with second degree depraved harder murder plus voluntary manslaughter and second degree assault. three of the other officers were charged with involuntary manslaughter. mosby then spoke directly to those people of baltimore who have brought their anger and sometimes violence to the street. >> this is your moment. let's assure that we have peaceful and productive rallies that will develop structural and systemic changes for generations to come. you're at the for fro
