there's over two hundred thousand students in philadelphia. jim kenney and tony williams are fighting over public schools versus charters. i think they're both wrong...it's making sure they all get a good education. teachers should have their contracts respected. they also should be held accountable. and it's wrong philadelphia gets less school funding than other parts of pennsylvania. i'll work with harrisburg to change that. but if they refuse i'll take them to federal court. as mayor i'll do what's right for them. >> good afternoon, in the news

a terror attack in texas the fbi sensor for evidence after both suspects are killed. >> two people charged in new jersey's bridge scandal appear in federal court. >> but the big story on "action news" is the dry windy weather that's making brushfires a big concern today. >> as of this morning five separate fires were burning in burlington county and red-flag warning remains in effect. john rawlins is in pemberton township with an update on the situation. john. >> reporter: hi, sarah this is where the command center is for the state. they are working with ground crews swells helicopter. there were five fires they are suspicious. two are contained three are not. they total about 60 or 65 acres. this was a controlled burn along

route 70 this morning. the smaller will burn underbrush depriving the larger fire of fuel to advance. water is used for very small fires, controlled containment is used for the bigger blazes. >> as the fire gets bigger it will fall back, defenseively well get out in fronts of it and -- out in front of it and burn the fuel out from under the fire. >> reporter: now, there is a sense of urgency here as the forecast is for the conditions to become windy this afternoon and spreading fires wind is a problem. five fires discovered at the same time early this morning the working theory of investigators they were started deliberately by an arsonist. at this point no one has been arrested we're told. at this juk tur the conditions are such they are still fighting the fires the hope they will

have them contained later today. john rawlins channel 6 "action news." back to you, rick williams. >> thank you let's switch live to meteorologist david murphy for more on the weather conditions that are contributing to the fires. >> reporter: john hit it on the nose, we not only have low humidity and dry fuels on the forest floor because of our lack of recent rain, but it's expected to become breezy in the arch for that reason we have a red-flag warning which means an enhanced chance of brushfires starting and spreading. it winds are expected to pick up at 1:00 p.m. the winds are not that bad but they are getting higher. 7 miles per hour a half-hour ago, now up to 9. it's a little bit more blustery down south. the winds will continue out of the southwest i expect on the average in the afternoon hours they will run 100 to 20 miles per hour. which is enough to kick upment flames and make it harder for the firefighters. that's the red-flag warning.

we have another issue that involves the air quality. before we hit that, some bit of advice for you, if you outside don't set any camp fires. it's warm enough you don't need it. be careful the way you dispose of your cigarette. don't flick it out the window. if you're driving along a wooded area and you see smoldering smoke don't assume somebody knows about it. call 911 and get the firefighters on that. we have an air quality issue it's not a code orange, but we have moderate problems with air quality if you have asthma or other respiratory aliments, limit your outdoor exposure from the afternoon to 5:00 p.m.
