afternoon. >> good morning everyone, it is just about 5:31 on this to us. let's go right to david and karen for weather and traffic. >> all right guys, good morning out there across the region as we've got cloud cover still suppressed out to the west so sunshine early. then clouds will filter in and eventually there could be spotty precipitation but probably not until this afternoon and this evening. 63 degrees in philadelphia. comfortable as you step outside. 53 in allentown. i know we're showing you winds coming up from the southwest and these winds are very light this morning so really not a bother. 63 in wilmington up into the upper 50's in reading and 61 down the shore at this early hour. heading outside to catch the bus between six and 8 o'clock looks like a pretty good morning to do so. fair amount of sunshine, comfortable conditions, 61 by 6 o'clock and then back up to 65 by 8 o'clock. a minor test on tuesday and that's weather-wise kids. we're talking about the walk home there. could be a spotty shower around, maybe a rumble of thunder. shores take cover if you hear that but most of the time you're going to be dry. by noon 81, 84 by 3 o'clock and a high of 85 degrees and

that slots in right about 4 o'clock this afternoon. we're also taking a look at pollen running a little bit on the high side today. we'll call it medium high today and tomorrow. so, if you suffer from allergies you probably still want to keep the anti-irritant medication handy and air quality this isn't so much a real big alert but we do have moderate air quality today and there means those of you suffering from asthma and other respiratory elements might want to limit your exertion during the afternoon heating because air quality is less than perfect. what about roads karen. >> also less than perfect but i'm going to try to perfect your morning commute for you. here's what you want to avoid. new castle county a downed pole from an earlier accident here wrangle hill road still closed at pulaski highway route 40 in new castle county. stick to porter road. we had an early morning accident involving an overturned vehicle here right on 295 northbound at route 30. this is lawnside camden county. it has since cleared. the crews have left the scene. all lanes back opened so you're good to go even though

we're looking at residual slowing of 35 miles an hour. vine street expressway construction cleared even earlier than scheduled so looking good. all lanes opened on the vine, no problem right now just yet. pretty light volume through the area. although the construction cleared on the turnpike westbound near willow grove we still have a problem over here with easton road being shut down. this is an accident from yesterday afternoon. still impacting you this morning and the problem is the downed poles and wires. we have peco, we have verizon. they're still on the scene out there and they're closing easton road near the pennsylvania turnpike. just stick to york road as your alternate to avoid the problem there, matt. >> thank you karen. we begin with breaking new developments in that deadly shootout outside a mohammed cartoon convention in texas. a terror group has just claimed responsibility. referred to the gunmen as two of their "soldiers and brothers." elton simpson and nadir soofi were armed with assault rifles and intended to shoot hundreds of people according to police. but they were outgunned by a lone traffic cop and his pistol. the group holding the mohammed cartoon contest the american freedom defense initial tiff says it was simply exercising freedom of speech but it has been called an anti-muslim hate group by southern poverty law center. outside the event 30-year-old simpson seen in this selfie and his roommate pulled into the parking lot, got out of their car and started shooting. the traffic cop returned fire and shoots them both dead. the fbi had been investigating simpson since 2006. he will be arrested once for trying to fight alongside an al-qaeda group in somalia. he grew up in a christian family in phoenix, arizona before turning to islam after a car accident ended his chances of playing basketball in college and he was

convicted of lying to fbi agents but only sentence to do probation and put on the no-fly list. officials say the traffic cop who shot simpson and his roommate potentially saved dozens of lives. >> he did a very good job and probably saved lives. >> now simpson was clear about his growing dismay with the country on social medial he tweeted this out before shooting. soon you won't be able to live in america as a muslim. the noose is tightening. again we're just learning that there are reports isis has claimed responsibility for those attacks. we'll keep you updated matt. >> okay erin. "good morning america" will continue our coverage that of shootout in texas with more another gunmen's backgrounds and this connection to isis after "action news" at 7:00 a.m. >> this is also new a grand jury in delaware has formally charged a dover police officer with felony assault. corporal thomas webster was placed on leave in 2013 after police say he kicked a suspect in the head rendering him unconscious.

a grand jury declined to indict webster in march of 2014 but attorney general matt den reviewed case and thought it should be presented to the grand jury again. that second grand jury indicted webster yesterday. closing arguments are expected today in the corruption trial for six former members of the philadelphia police force. lead defendant thomas licciardello is accused of leading his narcotics squad on illegal drug raids that aetnad thousands of dollars. prosecutors builder their case on testimony from a former colleague jeffrey walker. walker pleaded guilty last year. the other six defendants maintain their innocence. >> 5:36 and new this morning fire forced a family in philadelphia's strawberry mansion section out of their home. firefighters had the upper hand when the action cam arrived on the 2000 block of north wood stock street at 2:00 a.m. the investigation focused on the second floor where there are bedrooms. no injuries were reported. >> the red cross is helping a family that lost three relatives in a chester county fire. the flames gutted a mobile home on the 300 block of hill

road in west caln township yesterday afternoon. a family had gathered there following another relative's passing. two adults and two children managed to escape in time but according to neighbors, three women had trouble getting out of the same opening as the survivors and then they hesitated about jumping to their safety. the victims' names have not yet been released. charges are expected to be filed in connection to a rooftop rescue in frankford. philadelphia firefighters pulled a two-year-old child to safety yesterday. police say the boy climbed through an opened third floor window while his mother was next door. we'll have a live report on that investigation coming up in our next half hour. >> 6abc is hosting a live debate featuring the five men and one woman vying for the democratic nomination for mayor of philadelphia. the candidates squared off at the temple university performing arts center last night. the democratic field includes lynn abraham, nelson diaz, jim kenny, doug oliver, milton street and anthony williams. school funding was one of the first topics addressed. the candidates also exchanged

as we take a look at future tracker six as we go into the afternoon, we are going to see the clouds thicken up a bit. it will be more of a clouds and sun mix and any time after about lunchtime we have a chance of a spotty pop-up shower but you can see that by 2 o'clock the latest run on future tracker six really isn't selling very much. it's more like 3, 4, 5 o'clock that we start to see some spotty sprinkles and showers around. might be a rumble of thunder here or there. probably a little better chance of a spotty thunderstorm later on in the evening hours and by 11 o'clock tonight, we probably still have stuff to show you on radar so adam at 10 o'clock on channel 17 and cecily right here at 6abc at 11 o'clock good time to check out in case you have plans to go out in the evening hours they'll have not only future tracker but live radar to show you what's going on and by 2:00 in the morning tonight there still could be a rumble of thunder in a couple of neighborhoods. hopefully it doesn't wake you up. day planner forecast, big story given the fact that the separation so spotty is that high temperature. we'll get real warm. 65 by 8 o'clock but by

11 o'clock almost up to 80 degrees and then we spend the afternoon for the second straight day in the low to mid 80's. your high 85 probably around 4 o'clock this afternoon. high temperatures from north to south everybody looking pretty good. 82 in allentown and reading 80 in trenton, 84 in wilmington. down the shore the mid 70's still comfortable and again a spotty shower or a spotty storm popping up. then tomorrow we get a frontal boundary dipping to the south of us. it will still be mostly cloudy and a little unsettled but we will cool back to the 70's at least for one day before that frontal boundary comes back up and gets us warmer again on friday. on thursday actually. in terms of precipitation on wednesday, mostly cloudy, couple of spotty sprinkles and showers, kind of like today. not a whole lot going on. your exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, 85 degrees is today's high a mix of sun and clouds. wednesday 74 kind of feeling like spring again on wednesday with a spotty shower there. but then that front moves back to the north and we warm up again on thursday with a high of 80. friday and saturday the dad

similar day today. we're dry as you're heading out early with your suburban traffic report. let's go and take a look at some of the problems through the area. easton road remains closed between the turnpike and fitzwatertown road here. watch for this closure causing a problem in willow grove. it's an accident from yesterday that's still causing issues because of the downed wires and poles so we've got peco and verizon on the scene trying to fix this. they hope to have it done and clear and reopened by the time that more and more people are getting out like 7 o'clock. we'll keep an eye on that one. stick to york road in the meantime to deal with. that a house fire in to you men since. saw mill way near troxel road. expect some restrictions in there. use wychol road. clear and dry light volume because it's early. this is delaware county, the blue route near macdade boulevard. so, if you're coming down from villanova or broomall you're not going to see an issue here. someone reporting a pothole on our waze app. always good to check this. this is pe z man reporting

that. i love those names. this is east bishop hollow road look for that causing a problem on the waze app. 63 degrees your currents temperature, 61 in millville and 53 in allentown, certainly not feeling bad out there. a nice warm high once again of 85. the difference today we have just a spotty shower or thunderstorm later today or tonight matt. >> thanks karen. we have an update on a lotto mishap in california. the person seen here on surveillance was shortchanged a great deal of prize money for a winning scratchoff. as it turns out he's an undercover lottery official and was testing the store to see if it was following proper guidelines. the cashier in los angeles handed the agent $75 even though the prize was really $75,000. officials are now investigating whether the wrong payout was an honest mistake. >> there were more tense moments in baltimore when a shot was fired during a police chase. police say they were trying to arrest a man who was spotted with a gun when the man took off. the suspect apparently dropped the gun he was holding and that fired off a shot.

no one was hit and the man was taken foo custody but not before a crowd of protesters came out and made a false report that this had been a police-involved shooting. all of this happened in the same area as the massive protests from last week. new york prosecutors plan to charge a man with first degree murder. he's accused of shooting a police officer who has now died. demetrius blackwell is being held without bail. officer brian moore died yesterday two days after being shot in the head. dozens of new york city police officers paid their respects to their fallen comrade yesterday. >> a police officer in north carolina is suing starbucks over spilled coffee. lieutenant matthew core wants more than $50,000 in damages. he claims he suffered serious burns when the lid on the beverage popped off and the sides of the cup caved in back in 2012. however, a judge notes corey received the coffee for free that day and so starbucks shouldn't have to uphold any warranties on the product. core claims he had to have surgery to remove a portion of
