leaving a path of destruction. "action news" trouble shooters tackle a cable company's customer complaints next. they call a tornado alley and this is why. homes, farms businesses, even a fire station has fallen victim to dozens of tornadoes late today and tonight.

storms have ripped through oklahoma kansas, nebraska, but south of oklahoma city, it got flatten. remarkably no one has been killed, or seriously injury. it is wednesday night and the big story on "action news" tonight is violence coming down from the skies. even tonight lightening serves as a stunning warning light that the fierce storm systems were still active and perhaps searching for more places to land. "action news" reporter sharrie williams is live at the the big board tonight. sharrie, they will continue to baton down hatches in the plain states. >> reporter: jim, so far 39 confirmed tornadoes in that cluster of the midwest states. five of them alone touched down in oklahoma city. with the dangerous twisters comes another major problem high waters. this is from the suburbs of okc, these are cars, trapped in high water. if you take a look. we heard of flash flood watches and warnings but for the first time ever, the national weather service

issued a flash flood emergency for oklahoma city. now this means that the entire metro area is under this threat of high waters and risk of floods. already 7 inches of rain has fallen in oklahoma city from flooding in okc to this, video of the tornado on the ground in nebraska. you you can see how large this tornado is moving across, a crop field in the open space, storm chasers getting close enough to get that video. ominous cloud has been the case all afternoon and night across the the midwest. this is in oklahoma. another thing happening tonight because of the tornadoes the activity you see here, the explosions that are happening, likely transformers or down power lines of course making contact and exploding. this can make it difficult for emergency crews working tonight. down power lines making it difficult for police ape fire fighters to do their job to get the the help, anyone who may in need. the other mess that we talk

about the the flooding. this is coming also from the storm giving drivers a hard time tonight on the roads. from there we can see a view from the sky. this is a chopper flying over oklahoma. it is showing the devastation that is happening homes as you can see here completely flattened, so far there are reports of at least 35 homes being affected throughout the the oklahoma area. of course that number could change, a dangerous situation. we expect more reports of damage as night goes on. we just got this video in the last 30 minutes. this video is actually from a motel, in moore oklahoma. debris and damage all around. mother nature, of course, showing her power tonight jim. but no reports so far of any deaths at this time. that is encouraging news with so much activity happening right there. >> obviously we hope it stays that way thank you sharrie. a prisoner escaped in southwest philadelphia tonight and is still on the loose. investigators say that 16

year-old hasseem single try is wanted for three gunpoint robberies. he was arrested out of state and being transported from philadelphia international airport tonight by private subcontractors, and they put him in the back of this white kia. police say they never turned on the child locks. single try was able to jump out, still handcuffed near 55th and larchwood. tomorrow is his 17th birthday. detectives think he might be trying to get back to his neighborhood in mantua. train services in the norristown, high speed line, resume at 9:30 tonight after a pedestrian was killed on the tracks. a person was struck at 6:30 in haverford township near township line station. authorities have have identified the victim or why he or she was in the path of this septa train. a community in colwyn boro delaware county came together tonight to pay tribute to three family members who were killed monday in a fire, in chester county. live in colwyn tonight

jim. water gushed like a guyser from a residential street in cheltenham today. it shot chunks of asphalt to the 600 block of ashburn road startling neighbors. >> i came out to get my nail. i saw the burst. it looked like a volcano. >> there was a boom and water coming out. it was like a fountain, big fountain coming out. >> reporter: water main brake cut off service to ten hems for hours. by 8:00 o'clock tonight aqua america crews had capped the leak, dug down and replaced the ex-that burst. they are finishing up road repairs at this late hour. what has been a relatively quiet campaign for mayor in philadelphia has suddenly exploded in to a fire storm. in the eye of the storm police commissioner charles ramsey, and the the question, will the next mayor ask ramsey to stay on. two candidates are saying no way. mayor nutter is furious with that. but the candidates are not backing down.

monica malpass has much more on this. >> reporter: jim, this all started during last night's debate here at six abc. two of the candidates criticized ram i saying his stop and frisk policies have harmed the the my north community and that he has to be replaced. well, mayor nutter slammed candidates but tonight one is sticking with that idea. it started with two comments during the debate. >> number one, commissioner ramsey has got to be out of here. >> people have to be replaced when they stan for a policy that people in the community simply don't trust. >> reporter: but fire works heated up today when current mayor michael nutter, slammed both democratic mayoral hopefuls, saying stop and frisk passed a constitutional challenge and might have prevented recent shooting death of sergeant robert wilson at a game stop store in march. >> anyone who is not smart enough to at least ask him to stay is probably not smart enough to run this city. >> reporter: anthony williams answered the mayor's comments but refused to budge.

he said it is time for a new leader in the the police department and a new policy. >> i'm running to end it. >> reporter: other four candidates said they would keep ramsey and jim kenny pointed out president obama has enough faith to appoint him to lead a national task force on policing. >> commissioner ramsey himself has not commented on the controversy. >> at least not now. colwyn boro delaware county has been classified as a distressed municipality by the commonwealth of pennsylvania. that means that colwyn will smith its budget to a state oversight board which could allow to it amend union contracts and levee new taxes. twenty-eight other municipalities have been declared distressed since 1986, nine have successfully emerged from the program. who would shoot an eight month-old puppy? that is what authorities in chester want to know. neighbors along johnson street knew the stray mixed breed terror is a friendly dog and called him frank but last

the state of of emergency is no longer in effect in the sit of baltimore. governor lifted the order today, in the wake of last week's riots. state police and national guard were called into help local officers, enforce the curfew meanwhile attorney general, loretta lynch is considering a request from baltimore's mayor for a federal probe in the cities police department and whether officers have discriminated or used excessive force. investigators now say that germanwings co pilot who deliberately crashed a plane in the french alps had rehearsed the deadly dissent on the same plane earlier that day. investigators say andrea lubitz put the the plane into a controlled dissent during a morning flight, on march 24th, but he kept readjust continuing the settings. he crash the plane just two hours later during the return

flight. the american company space x has been blasting cargo into orbit and shuttling supplies to the space station but its goal is to launch astronauts. today they successfully tested an emergency escape system for the the first time. as part of the safety testing for the dragon capsule. no people were on board just a test dummy. parachutes slowed the escape pod's dissent. space x hopes to launch man missions within two years. demolition machines began tearing down a dangerous old warehouse today as part of philadelphia's new plan for vacant properties. this old warehouse has sat abandoned at eighth and rising sun in hunting park for more than a decade. city officials say the buildings are more than just an eye sore but they can pose hazards for neighbors and emergency responders. five and a half million-dollar and 43 new workers will help expedite joint inspection by l and i and the fire department. two harsh win thers in a row, trashed many of

philadelphia's sanitation trucks. they have been pulling double duty. so many garbage trucks are in the repair shop right now. cities fleet is at a record low. fewer trucks on the street has meant trash collections are getting backup too. only 85 percent are being pick up on time and that is with overtime. to compensate the the streets department has brought 30 new compactors and at least 20 more and adding a second collection shift, to help to get back to normal with trash collection by the middle of summer. philadelphia base cable giant comcast announced it the is announcerring 5500 jobs as part of the multi year customer service transformation. many of its customers say that the effort to improve is long overdue. >> reporter: they tell us for five years comcast erroneously charged them for a cable box they turn in. they say they have all of their bills, five years worth to prove it. tim hirsch any sicklerville, new jersey said he what's roane justly charge for a cable box with a past five plus year. >> i'm not happy. that is over $600. >> reporter: but trying to get their money back from comcast. >> dealing with them is just, banging your head against the the wall you get in where. >> reporter: they tell trouble shooters comcast claims they didn't turn in their box either. they were erroneously charge an extra month after they canceled their service. >> their customer service needs to be fixed. i mean there is something radically wrong. >> reporter: camerons tell us they made phone call after phone call to comcast. >> over and over again. every time. i go through the whole thing. >> reporter: after the "action news" trouble shooters got involved hershey in sicklerville told me comcast agreed to credit my than the

for the additional charges in the past five years. thank you for your efforts. lehmans got this voice mail. >> we will issue a $600 credit pending that you sign a non-disclosure agreement. >> reporter: yes, they were told comcast would give them their $600 credit but only if they agreed not to talk about it. the camerons didn't have that issue. >> good news well, channel six came through and got our $200 back. >> reporter: comcast says we have apologized to our customers and these issues have been since resolved to their satisfaction. this week, comcast announced plans to significantly improve the customer experience. and those efforts will go a long way to prevent the experiences that these customers went through last year. so, what is comcast promising? well among other things, in the the future digital receipts when customers turn in equipment. new measure in place lets customers drop off their equipment at certain ups

there's over two hundred thousand students in philadelphia. jim kenney and tony williams are fighting over public schools versus charters. i think they're both wrong...it's making sure they all get a good education. teachers should have their contracts respected. they also should be held accountable. and it's wrong philadelphia gets less school funding than other parts of pennsylvania. i'll work with harrisburg to change that. but if they refuse i'll take them to federal court. as mayor i'll do what's right for them. and just like that the snow is gone. and parkas become jackets. and sweaters go down for a long nap. and off you go. and your backyard gets a whole lot bigger. and you're running... and climbing... and your gear gets lighter and trimmer, and fitter and smarter. and now every frozen second spent willing this day to come
