and killing his own son right outside their home. plus hundreds of volunteers hit the streets of philadelphia a, to get to playground and recreational centers ready for summertime. but the big story on "action news" is seventh sent annual aberdeen dad vail regatta on the schuylkill river the biggest day of the year in college rowing drawing thousands of spectators across the country. a "action news" reporter kenneth moton spent the day there and joins us live with the full story hey there kenneth. >> reporter: hey there walter grandstanded here are packed, all day with parents fans, and athletes, as after 77 years, this regatta has become a picture in philadelphia and this year it did not disappoint. it is a premiere rowing event the aberdeen dad vail regatta took over kelly drive and thousands of collegiate rowers went to work on the schuylkill river. >> i love it, it is great every year it gets bigger and better, a lot of fun. >> reporter: 3500 student athletes and more than 120 colleges and universities, from the u.s. and canada

competed on this river race course. so many schools, represented and all local guys, and girls are right there. and, and drexel dragons last years champions, who came with came with quite a few fans. >> they are out on this river first thing in the morning they make it the a priority, they work their hardest they deserve it. >> those temple owls and women's rowing team got a big win in the finals they got some nice hardware around their neck to prove it, and and as tradition would have, and, thrown, and and regatta our own matt o'donnell anchoring the live coverage is showing off those heart pounding races. >> you just yell, you ring your cow bell and you pray a little. >> reporter: all business on the water but on the banks of the river it was a party then there is vendors who lined up to feed spectators thrilled to be cheering on these amazing student

athletes. >> i cannot imagine a better attitude, so many people and so many people cheering, i could not be any more better. >> and and, they were thrilling on and off the river, and that dad vail regatta but the sun came out just in time for the finals, this years champion for a third year in a row, drexel university walter. reporting live along the schuylkill river kenneth moton for channel six "action news". >> sound like a dynasty thanks kenneth. as kenneth mentioned weather wasn't too bad a foggy start but sun made an appearance. meteorologist melissa magee joins us a at the "action news" big board for the the first check of the forecast, hi there melissa. >> we had a really nice start to the weekend as as you mentioned certainly bright conditions for aberdeen dad vail regatta as kenneth just mentioned all came to a close earlier this evening. temperatures right now are coming in the upper 70's here in philadelphia, 74 though in allentown, 68 in the poconos much cooler today along the

coast, just 59 currently in beach haven and 60 degrees, in sea isle city especially with that south facing wind, coming in off the atlantic. if you are stepping outside on the town for rest of the tonight, it is pretty comfortable underneath partly cloudy sky and at home taking on the mets, first pitch around 7:05 and that temperature around 77. once we get in the ninth inning we will drop down to 71 degrees. here's satellite six with action radar you can see we have got dry, comfortable conditions, and across much of new england down across mid-atlantic region and it will stay nice for mothers day on sunday. but do i want to focus your attention on tropical storm ana wind sustained at 60 miles an hour and this storm has been nearly stationary as it continues to move, to the north and west affecting the the carolinas and the storm system looks like it will stay to the south of our region, for the rest of our weekend. so overall the impact with an a are minimal and indirect. we will have a prolong southeasterly wind thanks to

before they could get off. when they finally did it wasn't much better. the passengers said they had to wait for hours for customs officers to arrive. many ended up sleeping inside of the airport. >> the customs people knew we were coming in, from what i understand, they went home anyway because it was a union job. they would not be paid overtime. they didn't want to stay there. we had to sit there for five hours and wait. >> reporter: actor jeremy pivon was on board. he expressed his frustration saying they are going to hold us for four more hours here in philly. pilot refuse toss fly to jfk here on british airways. people are starting to panic. the passengers were finally rebook to the final destinations or taken by bus to new york city. back in our area, an update on the tragic accident in delaware county last night. a father, lost control of his car, hitting and killing his teenage son who was on the family driveway at the time. the "action news" reporter annie mccormack joins us live with the full story annie.

>> reporter: walter, the medical examiner's office has released names of the 17 year-old victim, as at this point police are not calling this a crime and they say this is just a tragic accident. the call came in around 8:00 p.m. friday, a driver, lost control of his vehicle and crashed into his garage here in the 300 block of chest walled road. >> it was a big bang seeming like somebody closed the garage door. the minutes later i heard frantic screaming and hollering. >> reporter: jake kennedy lives two doors down. he he called 911 and ran to help. >> someone dressed in nurse scrubs likely nurse scrubs, i don't know if she was related to the family but was trying to looked like resuscitate the the boy. the father seemed ton holding him in his arms, and he was just laying in the big pool of blood. >> reporter: a according to upper darby police the 17 year-old died at the scene. victim's father was behind the wheel, police believe that this was just a tragic

accident and the father lost control of his vehicle when it crashed in the family's garage and hit his son. the saturday you could see what remains of last night's scene as family members paid respects to the family at their home. and friend and family continued to pay respects at the home family members did decline to comment to us. we're told by some of the people filing in that they are heading in for a prayer service from their church. they go to saint john's indian orthodox church nearby. they say they are gathering to have a private prayer service this evening. live from drexel hill, annie mccormack for channel six "action news". five people were injured during a six car crash today on roosevelt boulevard. it happened at intersection of the boulevard and tyson avenue, in the mayfair section. the it is not known who was at fault but all five people, were taken to local hospital and listed in stable condition. the the boulevard was shut down for a while as police investigated the scene. we now know the the

identity of the victim, from that accident, yesterday involving a duck boat in the cities chinatown section. she's 68 year old eye less bit carnecki from texas. investigators say she was looking down at an electronic device and walk out against the light when she was struck and killed. driver of the duck boat is not facing any charges. two more people from the rehab facility in east falls were rush to the hospital today, this is after a dozen people were taken last night. it happened at the rehabilitation center, on the 2200 block of henry avenue. sources on the scene tell "action news" that as many as 12 patients suffered bad reactions, after taking synthetic marijuana. all 12 people were taken to either temple or einstein medical center. out of our delaware news room people in middletown gathered to remember a young man who died after a fight two weeks ago. parents of the 20 year-old ty sawyer led a peaceful march from everette meredith middle school this morning. his parents continue to demand answer about her son's death.

fight happened at a party involving sawyer and a person he had known since childhood but police say there is no evidence of the crime having been committed and they are waiting for toxicology report to determine the the cause of death. it was graduation day for a whole bunch of college students, and universities student across the region. here at chestnut hill college hundreds of graduates, some brightly decorated caps received their degrees. several honorary doctor degrees were also awarded. at harcum in bryn mawr there was a procession of couples this graduates hundreds of graduating seniors marched down montgomery avenue making their way to commencement. and in gwyneth valley today was gwyneth mercy university's 66th commencement, class of 2015 is gwyneth mercy's largest graduating class with 1880 students. congratulations much more to come tonight, local bride are giving back with local grades on their wedding day courtesy of an important event today in, olde city. plus hundreds of volunteers spent their saturday making sure that local pray ground and

hundreds of volunteers spent their saturday painting and hammering making sure, that some of the cities school playground and recollect centers look great with summertime right around the corner. a action cam on the scene here in mcclure elementary school in hunting park, where the playground was getting a make over. volunteers painted murals and refurbished some of the school classrooms as well. in germantown today several dozen veterans and their family members took part in the meet to go make hure that the local department of veterans affairs was full a wear of their needs and concerns this town hall held at philadelphia va regional office, on wissohickon avenue

is part of the effort by the va to address concerns of veterans in need of medical assistance. women who are about to walk down the aisle had a chance today to pick up a great dress at a discount and help out a great cause along the way. the brides against breast cancer held a gown sale today at wyndham historic district hotel in olde city. the dresses are offered at deep discounts and proceeds benefit helped support network.org providing services for those being treated for cancer.

region. we will go out to the west because we have severe weather once again popping up, across the southern plains. we currently have tornado warnings up for as far north as wyoming colorado, even for areas in texas. in fact, tonight there is an enhanced probability of finding a tornado breaking out across texas and more specifically as we go into colorado and kansas. this will be quite active over the next 24 hours for that region. now we will show you this activity that is currently to the the south and east of our region. right along southeastern sections of the united states, and we will go in tighter and look at tropical storm ana, wind sustained at 60 miles per hour and this storm system has been nearly stationary, for the past several days now. it is moving to the north and west at 3 miles an hour, and over the next 48 hours, we will start to make progress to the north and east but as it moves into slightly cooler waters it will start to diminishing its forward speed and this will stay south of our region for the rest of our

weekend. the only impact indirectly as a result of tropical storm ana is once again we have dense fog advisory posted right across coastal sections of new jersey, and it goes up at midnight lasting right through 9:00 a a.m. on sunday. visibility likely, reduced from lakehurst down to wildwood on west ward into the rehoboth beach down to a quarter mile. as we go throughout the afternoon hours, you can see that cloud will be breaking for some afternoon sunshine, so for mothers day we have got some morning fog and then cloud to some sun 8:00 a.m. that temperature at 67 degrees. noon time 76. and 82 at 5:00 in the evening and it could be the warmest we have seen in about 25 years across the region for mothers day. tonight the call from accu weather turning cloudy and then that fog will role in during the overnight hours with that constant south to southeasterly wind dropping down to 60 in the suburbs to 63 in philadelphia. here's the exclusive forecast, early fog tomorrow and
