kup for you on the northeast extension coming up in just a few minutes. >> in other news tonight, new jersey assemblymen is trying to strengthen the penalties for swatting after becoming a victim of the crime. >> the it is where people call 911 and then report a false crime has become a growing problem. new jersey correspondent nora muchanic joins us live in the new jersey news room tonight with more. nora. >> reporter: hi there monica. yeah this south jersey lawmaker knows firsthand about swatting he was having tim mized last month possibly by someone who was angry he's trying to crack down on this illegal stunt that waste resources and puts everyone involved in danger. >> i can tell you it's not a fun feeling to walk out your front door and have a dozen police officers with shot guns aimed at you. >> reporter: that's assemblymen paul moriarty of gloucester county who was recently the victim of a swatting. that's when as you can see in this youtube video a caller reports a phony emergency to police who respond with swat teams and a heavy presence, sometimes forcing entry into a home with weapons drawn.

here's part of the 911 call from the unknown person who falsely reported a shooting at moriarty's washington township home. >> i'll shoot any cop. my dad taught me thousand shoot this gun and i have a pretty good aim and i'll go right to the window. >> reporter: rob of north jersey has been spotted twice. a fake caller reported he had taken hostages. >> it's really not a joke. i could have been hurt. somebody else could have been hurt. so, people who are doing this need to take into account that they're putting people's lives at risk. >> reporter: at a hearing in trenton the city's homeland security committee would toughen penalties for swatting including jail times and raising fines up to $150,000. >> a person would also have to pay back all the money that incost to bring the swat team out to your house. >> reporter: swatting incidents have been reported several times in our area over the last couple years. celebrities often fall victim,

too. >> it's a very dangerous situation. there's got to be a deterrent there to say hey look this is not a, you know, a fun thing to do anymore. it's real waste of resources and it's unsafe. >> reporter: authorities say it's difficult to track down swatters because they're very good at concealing their e-mail addresses and their phone numbers. this bill now goes to the full assembly for a vote. live in our new jersey news room i'm nora muchanic channel6 "action news." >> all right, thank you nora. a fire that killed one person and injured five others was arson according to officials with the philadelphia fire department. they say an incendiary device sparked this blaze at a three story apartment building on kensington avenue near willard street. residents say there were no smoke alarms. they just started hearing people yell fire. some folks jumped from the upper floors to escape. we'll have a live report with an update on the folks who were hurt coming up at 6:00. >> meantime 20 people are homeless tonight after this fast moving fire burned through an apartment building in mercer county.

viewer video captured the huge flames at 2:30 this morning at the windsor castle apartments in east windsor township. the fire reached three alarms before crews got it under control. two people were hurt. that cause is under investigation. >> 50 million americans are under threat of severe weather tonight. this as several areas are still cleaning up from violent storms over the weekend. in east texas residents are sifting through the debris that overnight was left by suspected tornado here around a third of the homes and businesses in the little town of van are damaged or destroyed. two people are dead and several are missing. officials from several law enforcement agencies are working to find them. >> going door to door in the neighborhoods that have been affected to see if they can identify any of the missing people that we have names for. >> two people also died when storms and heavy winds hit arkansas. in iowa, a reported tornado ripped the roof off of a school here and the storms also triggered flash flooding forcing the national guard to

rescue people by air. well, back here we're dealing with warm and humid conditions today. it's feeling like summer instead of spring outside. meteorologist cecily tynan joins us outside our studios with the latest from accuweather. hey, cecily. >> hi, rick and it really has felt more like august than may for the past several days. in fact, the past three days temperatures have been in the 80's. philadelphia's high on saturday 80 degrees. yesterday 84. today matching that 84 degrees. that's 12 degrees above average and yet again it really depends on where you are. at the shore with those winds off the ocean it's quite a bit cooler. it's 66 degrees in sea isle city and then temperatures warm as you head inland. millville 74, philadelphia 81 degrees and allentown currently it's 85 degrees and really for the first time this year over the weekend and today the dewpoints have been noticeably higher. it's been foggy in the morning. it's humid in the afternoon. the dewpoint in philadelphia

currently 65 degrees. 66 in trenton. the dewpoint at 70 in dover. you can feel the moisture in the air. if we get something to trigger to pull that moisture out of the air we could get some much needed rain but storm tracker six live double scan showing we are surrounded by rain. to the south side we have ana the remnants and that will be heading out to sea near nantucket so we'll be missing that. if you look out to the west there's a cold front causing severe weather in ohio. however, the upper level support for that will head up to the north. so, we'll just be missing that and we'll get the threat of some isolated showers or thunderstorms but nothing widespread. so, that's what's ahead, some isolated showers and thunderstorms and then the middle of the week a tremendous temperature drop. we're going from the 80's to the 60's, may want a sweater. unfortunately with that dry air moving in, we do have another threat of forest fires. i'll talk more about that coming up in the full accuweather forecast. sharrie. >> cecily thank you. be sure to stay ahead of changes in the weather by

checking 6abc.com/weather. you can always find live storm tracker six radar and the seven-day forecast and get the very latest from our team of meteorologists. from our delaware news room now there's concern tonight over what many families are calling a neglected cemetery in wilmington. yesterday several people spent mother's day at the riverview cemetery but they were saddened to see the grass was overgrown and the grounds were in poor condition. we learned that the nonprofit caring for the cemetery relies on volunteers along with people who have been court ordered for community service to clean up the cemetery which was actually taking place today. >> just the grass has grown up -- i bring my lawnmower over here, my weed whacker and i shouldn't have to do that many people over here cutting their own grass around the graves. it's unbelievable. >> the group says the cemetery will be ready for this weekend when boy scouts and volunteers are expected to place more than 900 flags on the graves

of veterans in honor of memorial day. warmer weather of course brings out norbeck lifts but it's important to remember the rules for sharing the road. in fact, recently we've had two incidents where riders were hit by cars killing a biker. "action news" reporter john rawlins live in university city now with more. good evening, john. >> reporter: good evening mon cam i'm standing in what was until a few weeks ago part of the intersection of baltimore and springfield. it's kind of an island outlined in paint as you can see and these flexible stanchions. the idea to keep bicycle traffic here and motorized traffic in the lanes behind me. this weekend 26-year-old film maker jay may hon was killed riding his bike on girard avenue. last month temple student rachel hall was seriously injured after being struck by a car on the caln pus. when bikes and cars collide cyclists suffer. in philadelphia there are on average 500 reportable bike accidents a year. for motorists it's important to know how to treat bikes. the law says a bike is a vehicle, must be treated as

such. >> if a driver is in the road and there's a bicyclist ahead of them and there's noplace safe to pass the driver has to yield the right of way. if they're passing they have to leave according to state rules 4 feet. >> reporter: this cyclist says motorists are not always watching. they're looking for other cars to look out for but not for other kind of motorists like motorcyclists and bicyclist. >> reporter: they don't see you. >> right. >> reporter: drivers say there are cyclist that is don't follow the rules. >> some of the cyclists they go through lights. >> reporter: they'll run red lights. >> yeah. so you never really know which way to look for them and if you don't want to hit them god forbid. >> reporter: many cyclists don't wear bright reflective clothing or use lights. cyclists and drivers have an uneasy coexistence. the hope of the bicycle coalition and the city is improve separation if possible. example, this 9-foot wide bike lane along spruce street. >> the same number of cars use that road today as used it three years ago and we took a lane of traffic away and we

have a bike lane on there now and crashes are down 25 percent. that's a huge success. >> reporter: but there are still difficulties. too often cars and trucks use the bike lane for parking. the bicycle coalition working with the parking authority to try to reduce that problem. the bigger picture the bicycle coalition trying to change the culture here in philadelphia between how drivers deal with cyclists and vice versa. at this point a lot of people in philadelphia are using bikes on a regular basis. the figure we were given today, more than 14,000 people commute to work more than three days a week in philadelphia. that's a lot of folks on two wheels. live in university city, john rawlins channel6 "action news." back to you all. >> all right, john, thank you. delaware law enforcement agencies are reminding all drivers to buckle up as part of the nationwide click it or ticket campaign that starts today. and as an incentive to get more drivers safe they announce the buckle up 200

>> we could find out the fate of the boston marathon bomber sometime this week. today the defense and prosecution wrapped up their case in the penalty phase of the trial. dzhokhar tsarnaev's lawyers are trying to save him from the death penalty. during the hearing today death penalty opponents sister helen prajean testified that tsarnaev expressed genuine sorrow for the victims. closing arguments are expected to start wednesday. today hundreds of people came out to remember two mississippi police officers murdered on saturday. officers la corey tate and benjamin dean were shot and killed during a traffic stop. today four suspects arrested in the shooting went before a judge and the mother of two of the suspects apologized for their actions and said drugs are to blame. >> turning to health check tonight it's a day for celebration and reflection on the fight against ebola. the country hardest hit by the

now, investigators say somebody will call and pretend to be from your credit card company and say that they have detected fraud on your account. then they'll ask for the three digit security code as proof that you have that card in your possession. but then the scammers turn around and sell the information online. investigators are reminding folks never give out your account information to someone who called you. >> taking control of your life financially. that's the goal of a new program debuting at delaware's public libraries. delaware congressman john kearny was at the public library in wilmington for the announcement. the program brings more resources on mortgages credit reports and other financial topics into the state's libraries. paying for a college education is easier for more than 250 high school seniors in philadelphia. the pacifico foundation gave them scholarships here in southwest philadelphia today. superintendent william hite was on hand for the gift. $120,000 in scholarships courtesy of the auto giant.

look at the center city skyline. seeing a lot of sunshine. it's been one of those days where we woke up with the clouds and the fog. some breaks of sunshine but we're also seeing some scattered downpours. one lonely downpour in the entire viewing area in chester county moving north on route 202. it's just moved through goshenville heading between exton and malvern and it's moving north at about 20 miles per hour. that's the only shower we have now and unfortunately showers will be few and far between even with the cold front moving in. ahead of that front though, temperatures again warm today. currently in philadelphia 81 degrees. we've already hit 84. allentown 85. reading 81. you head closer to the shore with the winds off the ocean the ocean temperature chilly this time of the year. sea isle city at 66, the boardwalk in atlantic city 66 and millville a little bit inland it's 71 degrees. the big difference from last week, last week on monday and tuesday we were 85 degrees. but the humidity was low. it felt very comfortable. now we have dewpoints between

65 and 70 degrees. that's moisture in the air. that really measures that. so that feels very humid and it will feel humid tonight into the first half of the day tomorrow and then drier air will begin to move in. satellite6 along with action radar showing that the remnants of ana are moving off shore near norfolk virginia and that will be heading towards cape cod. we'll be missing out from the moisture from ana. we've just been getting the winds out of the southeast ahead of that system and that's what's been pulling in that moisture. wider view showing a strong cold front that's moving through ohio and this has sparked severe thunderstorm watches. the problem with this front is that the upper level support with that front will move up to the north. when that happens that front will weaken dramatically and the moisture practically evaporates so we're not going to see a lot of action with showers and thunderstorms even when that moves through tomorrow. so the call from accuweather for tonight, a spotty thundershower possible. otherwise it's just warm and muggy night.

two adults. she was the only one though, who got injured. she was taken to presbyterian hospital for treatment. authorities are not commenting yet on her injuries. they do say they're looking for several people who ran from the scene. we have an "action news" crew there for you and we'll bring you the very latest in next half hour. >> a fight captured by an "action news" viewer yesterday is one of the incidents that are under investigation. some people swung bats and fists but one person who is still on the run took out a gun and fired into the crowd. this free for all broke out at third and greenway. it happened with dozens of young children playing nearby. then things got really dangerous when this man in the black t-shirt pulls a gun from his cargo shorts. you can clearly see it in his hand. just before he started shooting this woman charged the person recording the video. >> i was inside my home. my door was shut and i heard like six popping sounds and then when i came outside that's when i seen the children screaming and they were running. >> reporter: it happened right outside the home of borough council member jennifer parks. police say this is the gunman 23-year-old raheem presley. they looked for him at his home in collingdale last night. >> we find drugs in the house we turn over to collingdale and he's got a gun. what the hell is he doing on the street. >> reporter: that means he's going back for a long time when you catch him. >> hopefully the system won't break down and he'll be where he belongs in jail. >> reporter: presley is out on parole after serve time for drug dealing.

it's how you can can be a part of "action news." >> george zimmerman the former neighborhood watch volunteer who was acquitted in the death of trayvon martin has been involved in yet another shooting and police say the man who pulled the trigger is no stranger. police say zimmerman flagged down an officer this afternoon in lake mary florida, to report he had just been shot at. they say the other man involved also called 911. he's the same man involved in a previous road rage altercation with zimmerman last september. now, police are still trying to piece together exactly what happened in this latest incident. >> at this time it appears that george zimmerman was not the shooter. no shots were fired from george zimmerman. >> zimmerman was not shot although he did suffer minor injuries. at this point no charges filed. >> at least one person was seriously injured in a head-on crash in bensalem bucks county this afternoon. chopper six was over the scene here along the 300 block of state road. and as you can see rescuers had to cut the roof off of both cars to get to the

injured. still not clear, though how the crash happened. the investigation continues. >> and the "action news" big board now with a pair of thieves who use an interesting cover to pull off a heist in philadelphia's east oak lane. and the entire incident was captured on surveillance. take a look at this video released by detectives today. it shows two men wearing flashlights on their heads while pushing a baby stroller down the 400 block of acker street. investigators say the pair went through trash and tried to open car doors before turning their attention to a work truck. the suspect allegedly stole $5,000 worth of tools, nail guns and other equipment. if you recognize these people, northwest detectives want to hear from you. a managing partner of the darling diner is recovering tonight after a man hit him over the head with a glass bottle on cinco de mayo. this is surveillance video of that the a tack. shannon savage tells "action

news" the suspect appeared drunk when he walked into the diner wanting to use the restroom. he was told the bathroom was for restaurant diners and needed to make a purchase first. he was told to leave but was told to leave. savage says in hindsight he should have called police. >> the fact that he came in already belligerent and was challenging me i just wanted to get him out of the restaurant for the comfort of our guests sitting in the restaurant. >> savage tells "action news" he had five staples put into his head to close up that wound. authorities are still searching for his attacker. we've posted the surveillance video on our web site 6abc.com so he can get a closer look. >> sharrie thank you. we have breaking news to pass along from the city's tioga-nicetown section where police and emergency vehicles are on the scene following a

car accident here involving a pedestrian. happened just about 15 minutes ago. again this is tioga-nicetown section at hunting park avenue and wissahickon avenue. apparently a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle here. no word on the condition of the victim but again, as you see in the middle of the screen there is an ambulance there waiting perhaps to transport the injured. traffic is still moving but again, the investigation is under way into this one car accident in which, again a pedestrian was struck and has been injured. we'll continue to follow the situation as we get more information. >> in western pennsylvania, it's still unclear what prompted a gunman to open fire in an auto parts store killing an employee but investigators in rush harbor township near pittsburgh are still looking for that shooter. the victim was standing behind the counter when the suspect fired at least one shot. detectives are not sure if the gunman then ran away or drove away. they're also trying to determine if the shooting was the result of a robbery or just a personal feud.

police in the poconos searching for 12-year-old mason pachulski last seen behind his home on center avenue in carbon county. he did not come home after he went outside to feed some fish in his backyard between 7:10 and 7:30 this morning. investigators are not sure what led to his disappearance and they are urging anyone with information to please come forward. >> in egg harbor township were people are behind bars accused of stealing several guns from a a home and then selling them an third suspect is still to the run. they're charged with stealing seven firearms including to rifles an shot gun from a house late last movementsay they recovered heroin cocaine and marijuana from the pair. authorities are still looking for luis castillo vetia in connection with that burglary. if you know his whereabouts you're asked to contact police. >> a montgomery county community is embarking on a

thunderstorms. right now everything is quiet no matter where you are. chester county kind of taking the hit today with some of those heavier downpours earlier this afternoon. as we go to the action cam it was dry in center city at logan square. you can see some of the salvia here in full bloom. but again the ground is very, very dry so if you have a lot of those flowers out you're needing to water them at least every other day right now. as we look at the almanac in philadelphia, 84 for the high temperature, 12 degrees above the normal and shy of that record 93 degrees which was set back way late in the late 1800s. as we look at the numbers in and around center city 83 in northeast philly, chestnut hill at 79, south philadelphia 81 degrees, cherry hill coming in at 79. it is much cooler but still very humid at the shore. 66 for the boardwalk the same around avalon and strathmere. allentown one of the warmer spots. it has been this afternoon. with a little more sun and away from some southeasterly wind coming off of the water

at 85 degrees. as we look at satellite and radar ana's remnants are pushing offer the coast sliding just to our south so we're not able to really tap into that moisture. off to the west you can see all the severe weather boxes popping up in the ohio valley. the chunk of that energy is going the lift far to our north and west so we're going to miss that as well here tomorrow so unfortunately we are in the ripoff zone of both of these features over the next 24 hours. tonight a spotty shower in a couple of spots. otherwise it's warm, muggy 63 to 66 degrees. and we'll wake up tomorrow morning at 7 o'clock very humid out there dewpoints 65 in allentown, 71 in millville. this is a measure of how much moisture's in the air. within the mid to upper 60's to near 70 there's a lot of moisture so it feels very oppressive out but look what happens to tomorrow afternoon after the front passes through, those dewpoints drop into the middle 50's so it will feel a lot more comfortable here tomorrow afternoon compared to the morning hours. so, as we look at the lehigh valley, partly sunny tomorrow,

the league is also fining the patriots a million dollars and is taking away two draft picks including next year's first round draft pick. of course ducis rodgers will have much more on all of this coming up later in the broadcast. >> ♪♪ now to a developing story in west philadelphia. a student was injured by a brick thrown through her school bus window. it happened at 47th and aspen streets and that's where "action news" reporter kenneth moton is now live. kenneth, what are the details? >> reporter: well, jim we just learned the victim who suffered cuts to her face from that broken glass is a 20-year-old special needs student from the school of the future. take a look because this scene just cleared moments ago. it all happened right here. this bus was carrying a total of nine special needs students from that school when the rock came hurdling through that window. investigators say it was around 4:30 when the philadelphia school district bus was traveling on aspen street
