>> breaking now on "action news," another major earthquake has hit nepal. new video and reports of the death and destruction are just coming in. >> a watchdog group says governor chris christie racked up quite an entertainment tab on the taxpayer's dime. >> accuweather is tracking one more hot, humid start to our day before things get better and the temperatures drop later. >> good morning, it's 5:30 on this tuesday may 12th. let's go over to david and karen. david you say do the exercise this afternoon. it will get better. >> yeah, it's going to be warmer later today so you'll need cool drinks but you're right, tam, the humidity is actually going to lower as the day goes on. satellite shows you how the cloud cover is breaking up a bit locally. there comes that front overnight but it really falls apart as it heads into about central pennsylvania and we're looking at dry conditions with a mix of clouds and sun today. 66 degrees as you head out the door in philadelphia currently, 62 in allentown, 62 millville but like yesterday the dewpoints are up in the 60's, a little bit better than yesterday but 63 here, 64 in wilmington, 62 in millville.

just a tad humid out there. as we go out to the bus stop this morning you may still feel a little bit of that humidity in play. partly cloudy skies, a bit muggy, 67 by 6 o'clock and by 8 o'clock, 70 degrees. but as we head through the day we are looking at several types of changes. first of all, it's going to be warmer. we'll get all the way up to a high of 88 degrees right there at 3 o'clock. you can see how those numbers climb. the winds are going to pick up during the afternoon but at the same time we get past lunchtime and the humidity is gradually going to begin to drop and get a little bit more comfortable. we also have pollen counts running high today but the latest forecast is suggesting that there's a little bit of a drop-off in that tomorrow. still probably a good idea to keep the meds handy all week long. karen we'll be back with big changes in that seven day starting tomorrow. for now what are the roads looking like. >> looking pretty good right here. this is 95 at allegheny. as i step aside you can see the traffic. that's southbound traffic headed towards center city with no problems. overnight construction is cleared past penn's landing so good to go on i-95. tacony palmyra bridge

scheduled to go up in about another 15 minutes. still seeing traffic move okay at this point but i would head to the betsy ross bridge if you're just about to get out. spruce street closed today. it's penn moveout today and tomorrow. this is from 6:30 this morning until 8 o'clock tonight. so, instead of spruce between 34th and 40th you just want to use walnut or sansom but this is also going to affect septa bus routes 40 and 42. they'll need to be detoured through that area so give yourself a little extra time if you're planning on taking septa in region and penn wynne montgomery county route one city avenue southbound at haverford road a new accident coming in to us right now and a water main break in upper dublin that has pine town road near highland avenue making some restrictions here. stick to camp hill road as your alternate. >> thanks karen. breaking right now another major earthquake has hit nepal. an early reports have it nearly as strong as the one last month that killed more than 8,000 people. erin o'hearn has brand new video and information live from the satellite center.

erin. >> reporter: hi matt. devastating news out of an area that has bear rihanna gained its footing from that earthquake that struck two weeks ago. the u.s. gs confirming a 7.3 earthquake hit 50 miles east of kathmandu in nepal. this is new video coming into "action news." you can see people are rushing out of their homes and buildings that are feared very unstable from that major quake that hit just over two weeks ago. we've just learned that at least four people have been killed this morning and an official with the international organization for migration said a number of buildings collapsed in an isolated town near where the earthquake hit and that is where those four people died. a spokesman said a search and rescue team had already begun searching through the wreckage of the little town and u.s. geological surveys said the quake hit just after lunchtime today. and here's a map of where the quake hit. you can see it is right near the chinese border between

kathmandu and mount everest. we also know that at this time that 12 minutes after that 7.3 quake hit there was a 5.6 mag nude aftershock. now 19 minutes after the original quake hit there was a 6.3 magnitude aftershock. clearly there is still instability in that area from that major quake just a couple weeks ago and details are slowly emerging about the damage that occurred. of course we'll bring those to you as soon as we get them so stay with 6abc and 6abc.com throughout the morning. for now we're live in the satellite center erin o'hearn channel6 "action news." tam. >> thank you for that erin. new this morning police say they've tracked down a smash and grab robber in west philadelphia. officers arrested the suspect near the crime scene the dunkin' donuts at 23rd street and girard avenue. the thief reportedly broke a drive through window and stole an entire cash register. but police caught up with him. that cash register still in his possession. police are looking for kids who threw rocks at a school bus in west philadelphia. nine special needs students

from the school of the future were on that bus yesterday afternoon along with two assistants and a driver. as the bus approached 47th and aspen streets at least two juveniles ran over from a rec center and started throwing rocks and construction debris. the broken glass hit 20-year-old special needs student courtney clancy in the face. coming up at 6:00 hear from the victim's mother as police are still looking for those suspects. >> 5:35 now. new this morning comments about a game of catch between children in allentown police set off a firestorm on facebook. >> look at that. supposed to be doing their job and they over here playing football. >> that's minute nerva colon. her video has been viewed more than 120,000 times. some viewers slammed colon for criticizing neighborhood outreach. >> he said he had a good time but that he was confused. he didn't know if the cops were good or bad how he should

judge it. i told him they stop and played with you. >> colon later said she misspoke. she says she has had two family members killed in police involved shootings outside of pennsylvania. allentown's police chief applauds the officer in the video. >> governor chris christie will be addressing the economy at an appearance in new hampshire today just as a scathing report on his expense account has just been released. according to new jersey watchdog.org christie spent almost $83,000 in taxpayer money for food and drink at metlife stadium during the 2010 and 2011 football seasons. the governor traditionally has free use of boxes for giants and jets games but food and beverage cost extra. the republican state committee perhaps fearing a scandal reimbursed the treasury. >> the nfl suspended tom brady for the first four games of the up coming season without pay for his role in deflategate. his agent says he'll appeal. the league fined the new england patriots $1 million

and took away two draft picks and has indefinitely suspended the two equipment staffers whom an nfl report identifies as those who carried out a scheme to deflate footballs in the afc title game. the eagles play the patriots in december. brady likely will be. >> back by then. >> yes. >> and healthier because he didn't have to play the first four game. that 1 million-dollar fine they hit the patriots that remains me of austin powers saying $1 million. that is what? that's like paneling in the locker room. we have no precipitation out there. as we take a look outside little bit muggy but it does look like we'll get some sunshine mixing with clouds pretty quickly this morning and probably continue that through the day. 66 degrees currently as you step outside. doesn't sound too bad but it is a little bit humid with that dewpoint up over that 60-degree threshold for humidity. 5 miles per hour wind. that will change as the day goes on as we'll get those winds kicking up after sunrise. here you see thunderstorms out

to the west that did trigger some severe warning watch boxes back in ohio. there was a brief one in northwestern pennsylvania as well but it really falls apart as it gets out from under its upper level support and overnight we see most of that rain just fall off the map. 70 degrees by 8 o'clock this morning. still a little bit muggy and by 11:00, 82 probably still a little bit muggy but by 2 o'clock, 87 degrees with the humidity falling and then your high today is a very warm 88. the other thing about today it's going to be very bandy as we roll through particularly the afternoon with gusts as high as 30 miles per hour. so, clouds and sun everywhere, less humid during the afternoon, windy conditions today and you can see that from allentown all the way past philadelphia we're going to be in the 80's. toms river at 87. millville 85. right down along the shore mid to upper 70's. a very nice day on the beach in case you have the day off and you feel like hanging out down there. the ocean water still a little cool but air temperatures are looking g now future tracker showing you that the dewpoints on and off this morning are still going to be in the mid

to low 60's but as we roll past noon, now this is the noon hour all the way up to 6 o'clock you can see how these numbers drop and these visits indicator much more comfortable air. closer you are to the oaks the best chance you have of feeling more humid but things getting better inland today. for the phillies game 82 degrees at the start of the game, 72 in the ninth inning breezy but comfortable with that humidity on the low side in time for the pirates and the phillies tonight and then tomorrow cold front well off the coast, winds shifting out of the northwest. that's going to draw in cooler dry air. we'll see lots of sun tomorrow, a little bit breezy conditions but a high of only 70 so 88 today but just 70 tomorrow. your exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast 88 is today's high we've got humidity dropping as the afternoon goes on. and it will be windy out there. and then windy and cooler on wednesday with a high of 70 and thursday sunny and nice, 74. in fact, the second 3/fifths of the work week look g by friday partly sunny and 76.

there could be late night rain on friday and then saturday cloudy skies, some showers and a high around 78 degrees. on sunday clouds and sun a high of 80. just a slight chance of a shower but that looks like a pretty good day overall. phillies and union at home. phillies in the afternoon unity evening and then monday clouds to sun and a high of 83. overall that's a pretty good looking forecast and i think the next several days after this afternoon are going to be kind of refreshing. >> yeah. >> okay, good. it's now 5:40 and new this morning a journalist's stunning reporter claims president obama's account of the raid that killed osama bin laden is a lie. >> a man jumps into a car and takes off with a young boy in the back seat. find out what the boy did next to escape the carjacking. karen. >> in wynnefield looking pretty good here city avenue at conshohocken avenue but problems elsewhere on city avenue. the details on that coming up. >> and a new jersey couple is accused of bullying their son's high school basketball coach to the point where police had to get involved. we're looking in lionville chester county, route 100 at 113. we're clear, we're dry, we have light volume, the light turns green most people moving looking pretty good right there if you're coming in from phoenixville or chester springs. we have an accident in penn wynne. watch for it on route one that's city avenue southbound at haverford road. so that's an accident coming in to us as well as this water main break in upper dublin here. pine town road near highland avenue. we have crews on the scene trying to fix the problem with the water. you might want to stick to camp hill road to avoid any problem there. and on the northeast extension construction blocks the right lane between lansdale and quakertown. as you're heading northbound. southbound the construction has been moved off to the shoulder. here on the turnpike in new jersey, on the waze app we found some people talking about a car on the side of the road here near exit two. other than that you're looking good on the jersey turnpike as you're traveling. here's the new jersey turnpike. here's 295 through gloucester county. no problems or people reporting any issues. area bridges looking good. heading over the walt whitman

or ben franklin bridge into the city from that area you're looking g1.5-mile visibility in trenton so this is an update showing reduced visibility there and down to less than a mile now in beach haven, 3-mile visibility in millville and lancaster so a little bit of moisture in the atmosphere you're picking up on that and you're seeing some reduced visibility, tam. >> okay, thank you karen. developing this morning police are investigating an attack near the university of california santa barbara. two people were shot and a third person was assaulted last night. the men in their early 20's were taken to a hospital with moderate injuries and police say one of the injured is also the suspect. the college campus was put on lockdown for a few hours overnight as police look for a second suspect. he is actually still out there on the loose this morning. the attack took place in the same neighborhood as a deadly rampage nearly a year ago. and schools are closed once again in van texas today. an ef3 tornado ripped through the eastern texas town late sunday night. a third of the community was damaged and two people were

killed. and crews are still looking for people reported missing. though local emergency management officials say three adults once accounted for have been found. >> new on "action news" a noted investigative journalist claims there was a coverup in the killing of osama bin laden. seem more hirsch's article appeared in sunday on the london review of books. it says. of president obama's accounts detailing 2011 raid are false largely citing anonymous sources hirsch say pakistan harbored bin laden with money from saudia arabia and that the u.s. convinced pakistan to assist in the raid to kill him. the white house denies hirsch's reports. happening today the pennsylvania senate is expected to vote on a bill to legalize medical marijuana in the state. state law only allows doctors to prescribe marijuana to patients in alternative forms such as oil extract. patients with chronic pain crohn's disease and diabetes use the drug to relieve the symptoms. governor tom wolf has said he supports medical marijuana.

>> a couple from north jersey is accused of stalking a high school boy's basketball coach who benched their son. david and nancy kushner pleaded not guilty to stalking charges last week. according to a leaked criminal complaint the kushners sent several anonymous e-mails to staffers and head basketball coach at cresskill high school. this reportedly went on for two years while the kushner's were upset about their son's playing time. "gma" will have a lot more on this story at 7:00 a.m. >> new on "action news" a brave little boy made a bold move during a carjacking in california. the carjackers started driving away with the stolen honda civic while four-year-old peyton hahn was in the back seat. the child was not buckled in the back be was able to jump out as the carjacker started to speed away. peyton suffered some scratches. his mother says the emotional scars will take longer to heel. >> 5:47. two waitress earned their biggest tip ever from a loyal customer. >> "dancing with the stars" surprise. a contestant does something on

i'm lynne abraham. when i became philadelphia's da, child victims had to face a judge ...a jury...the public... and testify eye to eye with their attackers. it wasn't right. so i got a constitutional amendment passed allowing children to testify remotely. i'm running for mayor for the same reason -- our children should come first. jim kenney and tony williams are fighting over public schools versus charters. i disagree. we have to improve education for all of our children.

and dover delaware. if you're running errands might be a good idea to get them done in the morning. it's still a little bit muggy in the morning but we're only at 76 by 9 o'clock. by as soon as noon 85 degrees and then your high today is going to be that 88-degree high with winds picking up as we go through the day. the humidity, however is going to be higher in the morning than it will be in the afternoon. it starts to dr. off during the afternoon. so it's kind of a choice. you can go out in better temperatures but higher humidity in the morning or much warmer temperatures but lower humidity in the afternoon, matt. >> okay, thanks, david. five people suffered minor injuries when a cement truck crushed a car in atlanta. this is new video of the aftermath. former atlanta mayor and un ambassador andrew young was in the car. he and the other passengers just have bumps and bruises. witnesses say the truck driver was trying beat a traffic light and lost control. >> it's elimination night on "dancing with the stars" and a big surprise on last night's show already has the emotions running high. >> the song, the time of my life you give that to me and you know, i've got to do this

that's a hard question. (laughing) we are the fay family from chesapeake, virginia. williamsburg is just beautiful. because we have thrill seekers and not such thrill seekers, i try to find something that everybody likes. this is a very good spot to do that. the most exhilarating part about this vacation was being with the whole family. it was amazing.

it's a money maker. i mean, i just feel like our children are paying the price for these high stakes tests and their teachers are stressed out about it. so, teachers aren't benefiting. they're not getting information from these tests that are helpful for teaching.

over the ocean and passengers braced for impact. 43 people were on board. one of them said it was one of the better landings they had ever seen. no injuries were reported. and this is what it looked like when firefighters pulled two women out of a little miata sports car. it got stuck under a large ups mac truck yesterday. it happened on the northeast extension in lansdale. the women in the sports car have nonlife-threatening injuries. >> darby borough police say they've identified the man they're looking for in connection with a mother's day melee. officers say raheem presley was the one who opened fire during a brawl involving about a dozen people near third street and greenway avenue. at one point a man did pull out a gun and fired. the video ends just before witnesses say the shots were fired. it was one of four shootings in the span of five days in darby. five:57. we continue to keep an eye on breaking news. a powerful earthquake rattles nepal for the second time in just two weeks. >> new crash tests prove bigger isn't always better when it comes to mid-sized suv's.
