4:16 pm
and, yes just like the name implies it's an actual drone just like the kind you heard so much about lately. this thing is incredibly cool. if you want to know how cool it is here's some proof. as we take off and for the very first time on live television here in philadelphia you are looking live from a drone in the skies over channel six this afternoon and from that vantage point you could see the many incredible advantages that this sort of thing can give our viewers when it comes to gathering and broadcasting the news. we're going to be totally transparent with you. this is not easy, not technically not really in any fashion. but as you know, our constant mission here is to be the first and to be the best in philadelphia and beyond and bringing you the news and also to be the most responsible. so to that end we should tell you this. as you might have heard even this week lawmakers in washington are debating who can use drones and how they can use them. right now the faa is reviewing a strict set of guidelines
4:17 pm
that limits users to flying under 400 feet, no less than 5 miles away from an airport and always within sight of the pilots. our pilots are standing a couple feet from where i am right now. those rules are in place because of course these can be incredibly useful tools but they can also be misused and in the wrong hands frankly they can be dangerous. >> first of all there are safety issues. because unless you regulate drones you obviously don't want them runing into aircraft. so that's one issue. two is even if you didn't have the aircraft problem you would still have the problem of what happens when the drone leaves the line of sight of an operator and is it flying into an area that is hazard free or obstruction free or something along those lines and isn't going to necessarily damage people or property. so there are some logistical issues that are aside from the privacy issue. >> and then of course there is the privacy issue.
4:18 pm
that's a big one. nobody wants these things flying over their homes looking into their windows. certainly not our intention here but if you look live once again from drone six, history in the making here on channel six today and you can expect to be seeing a lot more of this in our newscast moving forward but only when it benefits you the viewer, and helps tell the story in a more complete and more responsible way. but you can imagine the pockets, they are endless and we at "action news" have always prided ourselves in telling the story in a way that no other news outlets can do and now we can take you to places no other news outlets can go and we are landing now so let's come back out live and give you that perspective. we can look forward to many more times when this incredible piece of technology will take off once again covering the stories in and around the delaware valley, history made on television today. we hope you enjoyed that perspective because as i mentioned you'll see a whole
