a spotlight on philadelphia's most iconic neighborhoods. we will begin with our weather and threat of storms, there is a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of the area meteorologist melissa magee is at the "action news" big board with the very latest, hi there, melissa. >> we are starting to see showers and storms mainly line up and set up north and west of that i-95 corridor. storm tracker six live double scan radar showing thaw activity moving in lancaster berks, lehigh counties. we will go in tighter into the north and west of philadelphia. we have severe thunderstorm warning that has been posted, that is say for the next 15 minutes up until 6:15 this evening, for lehigh, northampton, bucks berks counties, as we are tracking this activity that continued to move on off to the south and east at 20 miles per hour. so if you are in allentown we are tracking threat of showers and storms to the south and east of bethlehem and also to the north of quakertown and green lane at this hour. storm tracker six live double scan radar treat level shows you the thunderstorms we are

tracking that continues to progress to the south and east at the 20 miles per hour, and this activity will be scattered about much of the delaware and lehigh valleys. why the the showers and storms? well, we had that building warmth and humidity overhead. in philadelphia 84 degrees. eighty-two in reading. sixty-six in lancaster. we have rain cooled then are storms moving in but still 81 degrees in trenton. more importantly we have that humidity to contend w how it feels today anytime you have to point temperatures from 65 to 70 degrees, you can feel the atmosphere rise up that moisture overhead leading to the showers and storms across the region for rest of tonight. we will talk about what ace head? we have a preview of the phillies forecast on the the way. pop up thunderstorms. that will continue. it looks to be a muggy weekend. i'll have details walter, coming up with the accu weather forecast. in montgomery county today a crash ended with one man killed and a local high school badly damage. it happened this afternoon in lower moreland township. that is where "action news"

reporter dann cuellar joins with us full details hi there, dann. >> reporter: walter, we have a precarious situation going on behind me where emergency response teams are attempting to extract the the pickup truck from inside of lower moreland high school. they have to be very careful not to do anymore damage then that has already been done. the crazy situation. police do not know what to make of this. driver of the truck is dead they grateful this did not happen when school was in obsession still there were people inside the building when it all happened. >> i saw the the truck speeding down right here. >> reporter: witnesses say it was 1:30 at lower moreland high school a black pickup truck with virginia tags being driven by an elderly man sped at a high rate of speed across the the parking lot. >> i saw a black trick leaving its engine and smoke coming from it. i heard it gun down the the parking lot all the way down until i heard this gigantic sound. >> reporter: truck went 150-yard and crashed in the janitor's office where staff members had been only moments

earlier. >> thankfully, they left a few minutes before that and they were out here right now thankfully they're fine. >> reporter: emergency response teams had a tense situation because electrical wires were down and water pipes burst into the building. >> they had to get everything shut down. peco responded there was some concern about someone being injured by trying to enter that building because proximity of the water heaters and the water pipes being broken, electricity still going on, we were making sure we avoid any other tragedy which we did. >> reporter: in the cafeteria next to the janitor's office people were preparing food for pasta fundraiser tonight to raise money for music booster program. but they were not injured. >> they got the here about 9:00 in the morning and started cooking thousands of dollars and a lot of food went to ways. >> reporter: event had not been canceled and some question whether school will resume on monday. >> parents and community will be informed as to whether or not school will be held on monday sometime tomorrow, based on our evaluation of critical systems at the high school. >> reporter: now the identity of the victim has in the been

released, but again witnesses say the truck had virginia tags. and information on when school will resume, will be posted on the school district's web site at www lm, that is dot lm, pse.org. we are live from lower moreland i'm's dann cuellar channel six "action news". back to you walter. >> thanks, dann. all southbound lanes of the roosevelt boulevard were shut down for hours today around sully avenue because of issues around a pedestrian bridge there. road crews found the problem right around 11:00 this morning and called penndot to inspect the bridge. that inspection took two hours and the boulevard was then reopened but no further information has been released about the issue that they were looking into. well, to say that luck can be fleeting and that was certainly the case for a man from south philadelphia. he had won several thousand dollars at huge air house casino last night only to be held up by a man who had apparently been watching him. as it turns out gambler's good fortune had not run out just yet. house with the full story hi there, vern om. >> reporter: good evening, walter. at the this hour police are still holding two suspects, in this case from fishtown, along, i-95. suspects in the armed robbery plot that began in the predawn hours here at the the casino in fishtown. around 5:00 this morning the south philadelphia man took a taxi home from the sugar house casino with his overnight earnings which police say totaled roughly $12,000. the the the moment the cab dropped him off in his south mildred street home a masked gunman appeared out of no where. >> get on the ground or i'll kill you. >> reporter: you complied. >> i put my hand up and i laid in my neighbor's, she has a little bed of rocks next door and there was a flower pot there. he said pull pot over your head don't look at me. he reached in both may have pockets. took everything i had. i got up, i called cops. i hood 50 cents left. >> reporter: gunman fled by car. rick tim immediately called police.

they were able to track pings on his stolen iphone. they chased robber or robbers through south philadelphia right back to the casino where they are sure one of the crooks was spotting the big winner and then followed him home. one of the suspects abandoned dark blue nissan and fled on foot into the casino before being caught, in amens room. the victim was able to id one of the band its. >> they actually caught him root there at the casino. we went back and ided him. >> reporter: again, police sources tell me tonight that two suspects, are being held in south detectives. their names not yet released. live from fishtown vernon odom for channel six a "action news". now to the latest on the deadly amtrak derailment, federal officials now want amtrak to begin using a speed restriction system in the area where the crash occurred. specifically, it is a component called the automatic train control system. it works by automatically notifying the engineer if a train is traveling above the speed limit and actual a

police the brakes if the engineer does not respond. investigators are back on the scene today meanwhile and to continue piecing together exactly what happened. the the fbi is looking into whether a projectile struck a train before it derailed. just prior to the accident a septa train was hit by something, and its windows were shattered. thinks the call from transit police about that incident. >> a object made contact with that train shattering the windshield. we do not have an update on any injuries, with the engineer while till on the rail but it is a train that has had unknown object made contact shattering the windshield. >> once again, eight people died and more than 200 people were injured tuesday when northeast regional train 188 jumped the track. in true philadelphia hero was honored earlier today. that is the traditional return

to corridors tribute offered today as a remembrance of fallen fire fighter joyce craig. craig was the the first female fire fighter in philadelphia to die in the line of duty when she responded to a call last december at a home in west oak lane. officials unveiled a memorial canvas, to the the members of the engine 64 where craig served. >> we really, really miss eyes craig. the members of the engine 64 have conn a great job of trying to keep her memory going and we want to make sure we honor her family by the memorial. >> joyce craig left behind a teenage son and a three-year old daughter. well, a solder from south jersey was honored this morning posthumously for his service in vietnam. family of corporal james accepted a silver star on his behalf at the cherry hill american legion. silver star of course is among highest of military american honors. he lost his life january 12th, 1968 during a battle against north vietnamese army in the

valley two. other men in the platoon were killed that day as well. an 11 year-old girl from chester county is certainly doing her part to give back to her community. molly doll and organized this huge yard sale for a charity called kid four kid. she received all kind of donations, including bikes baby gear kitchen plainses just to name a few which she then put up for sale. lots of bargain hunters showed up to get good deals. molly says money she raise today will go to help three local favorite organizations. all right. much more to come on "action news" tonight, it was a wonderful celebration in bucks county, we will take to you new hope for annual gay pride parade. plus best high school rowers from across the country are in philadelphia for one of the biggest events of its kind. plus, jeff skversky has sports when "action news" comes right back.

market festival down in south philadelphia. along with the best food on the earth there were live band, fun for kid and even half ball tournament. the festival continues tomorrow with a car show, and the procession of saints. and it was graduation day at st. joseph's university. the 164 commencement ceremonies took place outside on maguire campus along city avenue. nearly 2400-degree with bestowed upon these dedicated doctoral graduate and under graduate students. philadelphia's mayor michael nutter served as keynote speaker for under grads receiving diplomas. in delaware county, it was also graduation day at the new man university. the hundreds of graduating seniors received their diplomas on the south lawn of campus in aston. congratulations to the the class of 2015.

only .300 of an inch in philadelphia so far this month. we will get more moisture that moves in later this evening. storm tracker six live double scan radar showing it is still dry for philadelphia, areas to the south and east, but north and west of town, we are watching for scattering of showers and storms, so we will go in tighter on storm tracker six live double scan radar street level and you can see in lancaster chester counties berks lehigh counties we are tracking showers, even some thunderstorms. so thunderstorms and maryland rate rainfall in lancaster. same thing to the south of lancaster moving in smith villain quarryville. moving north and east in honey brook we are tracking a shower and thunderstorms, same thing for areas west of pottstown and up through reading. this moisture will continue as we go throughout the rest of the early evening hours and slide off to the south and east as we get into tonight. we will show you the picture outside and tail of two locations. it depend on where you are. north and west of the town we have showers and storms. if you are down the shore in

atlantic city we have a mostly cloudy sky but that moisture is holding off until later tonight. you can see folks making what they can of their weekend stralling boardwalk here on this at day evening. high today in philadelphia 86 degrees. so well above our average of 74 this time of the year and just 4 degrees shy off the record of 90 setback in 1998. so we have the warmth overhead and we also have that building warmth, and humidity. to point temperatures are currently in the 60's, to close to 70-degree range. that lets you know that the atmosphere is ripe with moisture and that is why showers and storms are popping up. currently 84 in the city. seventy-seven in allentown. where we are getting rain cooled air 69 in reading. 66 degrees in lancaster. satellite six with action radar showing us we are track a weak disturbance that works its way eastward. this is where we are tracking that, a and it will sag off to the south and east as we get throughout the rest of the evening hours. so keep that in mind heading over to sittens bank park the phillies are at home taking on
