the democratic nomination for mayor of philadelphia the poles had kenney the favorite to win tonight but even so-called political experts must be impressed by the size of the victory tonight. if there was any notion today that the race would be closely contested, these numbers proved that notion, to have been unrealistic. kenny won about 56 percent of the vote, in a six person field and anthony williams finished a distant second, lynn abraham third, doug oliver and nelson diaz battling for fourth and milton street is sixth. "action news" reporter sharrie williams was live at headquarters on north broad street in spring garden. and any suspense ended early tonight. >> reporter: it only took a an hour and five minutes to declare jim kenny the winner of the democratic primary.

takata air bags an ied inside your car. >> reporter: an explosion waiting to happen. air bag recalls started a year and a half ago impacting nearly 18 million vehicles, including honda. but with that number rising to 34 million today that is about one out of every seven cars on the roads, in the u.s. it is a massive historic recall defective air bags that could explode and send shrapnel toward driver and pennsylvania passengers in millions of vehicles. >> that is scary. >> very scary. i don't know what air bags are made of but whatever it is, it isn't good if it is not working properly. >> reporter: japan air bag maker takata and u.s. department of transportation announced the recall tuesday. 34 million vehicles and nearly a dozen of the world's biggest auto makers are affect. >> i think there is probably a lot less of them that will fail but they are preventing any accidents in the future. >> reporter: takata is not certain but believes high humidity causes the faulty air

schuylkill expressway tonight kenneth moton for channel six "action news". >> thanks, kenneth. word came tonight that beau biden son of the vice-president, joe biden is under going treatment at walter read national military center. there has been no indication what the former attorney general of delaware is being treated for. of course, the younger biden had a brain lesion removed in 2013 and suffered a stroke in 2010. in the wake of the deadly amtrak train derailment, the union representing amtrak engineers is now urging the railroad to require a second set offhand. they want amtrak to have a second crew members at the controls. for trains operating in the northeast corridor. train number 188 had a five member crew, but other members, beside brandon bostian were in passenger cars, not inside the locomotive. amtrak does not have a second crew member inside the engine locomotive since the early 80's and says safety is the

number one priority but did not say whether it would implement the the change. it was a scene of grief and mourning in the the lehigh valley tonight. they watered to remember a 11 year-old abigail zu kowsky, killed crossing the the street in emmaus yesterday and pray for ten year-old mya wallrath fighting for her life. roughed ones try to console the family while young friend spoke up about the girls. police have not filed charges against the driver who stopped at the scene of the crash. it has been a violent night in the city of philadelphia. a 22-year old man was shot and killed in a 8:30 tonight in the 2900 block of frankford avenue. second victim was wounded but will survive. another double shooting this evening, turned deadly in west philadelphia. the 1500 block of north redfield street was where where gunfire erupted at 5:15. police say the 26 year-old man was shot in the back. he was killed, a 28 year-old woman survived. the mayor of the

wilmington delaware went face to face with his constituents tonight and found out what he already knew. that a lot of them are concerned about their city and its problems. day in philadelphia, a young mother of two was brutally attacked and sexually assaulted inside a center city parking garage. the it happened at 10:30 in the morning. a "action news" reporter erin o'hearn is here with an exclusive interview and victim of this horrific crime and why she believes that this could have been prevented. >> reporter: this young woman endured a violent beating and sexual assault leaving her with numerous physical repercussions and emotional trauma the man charged in the crime is behind bars, a awaiting trial but could an alleged security deficit inside of the garage, have contributed to an environment ripe for this heinous crime. the only thing that was going through my mind, throughout this attack was how am i going to get out of this situation and why isn't anybody here. >> reporter: on new years day jane as we will call her was on her way back to the car inside this parking garage on 17th and callowhill after a

friend dropped her off at the entrance. after her ticket at the kiosk she went to the sixth floor. moments later she said a man grabbed her from behind, and demanded cash. >> i handed him my purse, you know that was in the enough. he put his hand around my neck and he began to choke me. i remember telling him i had two small children, and please don't kill me. >> reporter: in court jane testified that three two-year old steven woodson who has pleaded not guilty started sexually assaulted her between two cars. the the attack lasted 20 minutes, and then jane noticed the car driving by. she managed to escape and jump in front of the driver. >> nobody came out to help me. and, if those people didn't drive up when they did i wouldn't be here talking to you today. >> this garage is a disgrace. >> reporter: shanon spector a attorney for victim, hoist suing owner of the garage, and franklin town corporation, as well as the management could

atm parking services say security is not sufficient. he says 99 percent of the garage is not covered by cameras. we only found cameras at entrance and near pay kiosk. spector says security office in the back was empty the day of the attack, a clam corroborated, by "action news" by an employee of the company. but in a statement the company said it did have a roaming security guard on duty. the web site, states the parking garage is both lit and manned but when we knock on the security door at 5:00 o'clock in the evening it was lock and empty. >> the purpose traitor was loitering in the garage waiting for this young laid toy come in. >> reporter: spector says that is a direct violation of the cities ordinance that states the garages quote shall not permit any person not employed at a parking lot to lighter. >> this incident would not have occurred, had they had video cameras and had they had security patrols. >> you are in this parking garage, and you know you cannot get out.
