>> happening now on "action news" a record auto recall. millions more drivers are learning they have been riding around with air bags that can blow up. >> and this is developing. a burst pipeline unleashing thousands of gallons of oil into the ocean. beaches closed and the impact on nature is still unclear. >> wasn't even close. jim kenney stomps all over the competition in the democratic primary race for philadelphia mayor. >> good morning, it's 6:30 now on this wednesday may 20. it's take a quick look at weather and traffic and go to david and karen. good morning if good. >> good morning tam. across philadelphia we have clouds in place but as you look at the wider view on satellite the main majority of significant cloud cover is out to the west of philadelphia and overall we expect many of the clouds locally to evaporate and we should wind up with a decent amount of sunshine through the day. 62 degrees right now and you'll also notice how the winds are dropping down out of the northwest now instead of coming up from the south. the south is where the

humidity lies. the northwest not so much and so it's comfortable this morning. some areas back into the 50's. cooler and breezy today than it was yesterday. 62 on your storm tracker six app right now can kids. 60 by 8 o'clock. and then by noon, 66 and by 3 o'clock, 71 with a high of 72 this afternoon striking at about 4 o'clock. we'll be back into the up are 60's by dinnertime. your pollen count which was way low yesterday has inched back up into the medium high range and looks to stay that way through the majority of the holiday weekend. speaking of which we'll talk about that memorial day weekend forecast coming up in just a couple of minutes. karen what are roads look like early on. >> chopper six live on the scene of a big accident involving a tractor-trailer and look at this shot. you can see kind of smashed right through the guardrail and jackknifed as he ran off the roadway right into the woods. this is 202 southbound at high street in west goshen township. we see police on the scene earlier. we had an ambulance here as well. traffic's getting by in this area but they may need to restrict it as they pull this tractor-trailer out of the

woods right here and i don't know if they're going to need to fix that guardrail right there. if they do they'll need to continue to block lanes. at this point you've got traffic getting by. 202 southbound at high street, chopper six live on the scene. other accidents through the area including this one involving an overturned vehicle in chester county, route 10 compass road. they've shut it down here at chris well road as crews come to the scene. stick to telegraph or sandy hill roads to avoid that. an accident involving a deer now off to the shoulder on the northeast extension southbound just past lehigh. another new accident coming in in upper gwynedd township montgomery county on allentown road at south broad street we had a big accident on the schuylkill in south philadelphia, that cleared. roads are clear and dry but problems all over. this disabled vehicle has been stuck here for awhile with a flat tire on the vine street expressway westbound just as you come around that curve now, matt. >> thanks, karen. breaking right now, three armed invaders stormed a home in the city's juniata park section injuring one person and stealing cash jewelry and a gun. it happened on the 1800 block

of east ardry street. one person suffered a minor cut to the ear. the robbers fled in a white suv and headed north on kensington avenue. a neighborhood dispute led to a shooting an brief police standoff in southwest philadelphia. police say the gunman was fighting with another man over a car and should there him in the foot. then police say the shooter ran into his house on windsor street and wouldn't come out. a swat team arrived and convinced the suspect to surrender. the search is on for the man who lured kids away from a skateboarding park in philadelphia so he could photograph their feet. it happened at pains park near the art museum on sunday may tenth. an 11-year-old boy waited to tell his parents because he was afraid he would get in trouble. the man offered the boys free sandwiches and drinks. in return the man took them to a grassy hill and photographed their bare feet. the child gave police a vague description of the man. detectives hope someone will call in with more information. >> it could be a white knuckle

commute for millions of americans whose vehicles are now part of a record recall. drivers across the country are just now learning that their air bags are defective and in some cases deadly. japan's takata corporation agreed to expand its recall to include almost 34 million cars. these air bags can inflate with too much force sending shrapnel flying. six people have died and more than 100 people have been injured worldwide. 11 automakers used takata air bags including honda and toyota. a spokesperson for the automobile dealers association of philadelphia says even once you cue up, repairs could take months, maybe 18 years. >> there is going to be a backlog of these parts with this many vehicles being affected and so there's one major manufacturer that is producing these air bags and they can only ramp up so much. >> you can go to a government web site to enter issue vehicle identification number to find out if your car is part of that recall.

we've put a link on our web site. i've tweeted out that information as well. >> jim can kenny celebrating a knockout victory in the democratic primary race for philadelphia mayor he won with 56 percent of the vote in a six person field but the turnout was dismal in the city, only 27 percent. now kenney is a former long time city councilman with broad union backing. he promises to end the police policy of stop and frisk provide universal prekindergarten education and raise the city's minimum what itch to $15 an hour. abc asked him how it felt to be a step closer to running city hall. >> it's almost like a conductor an orchestra. everyone has their talents skills and instruments they play whether it's city council state legislature business commute and it's conducting that whole group of people making beautiful music as opposed to bad noise. >> state senator anthony

williams finished a stand sexed in the democratic primary race. he was the frontrunner early on in heavily democratic philadelphia kenny -- both nominees attend a fundraiser at the broad street ministry today. we have posted results of other primary races on 6abc.com. >> developing now a ruptured pipeline has sent 21,000 gallons of oil spewing into the pacific ocean. cleanup is under way along the california coast. officials say the source of the spill is secured. the leak has already shut down beaches and is threatening wildlife. you can see two whales coming within just a few feet of that slick. it stretches for about 4 miles off the coast of santa barbara and it could end up stretching even further. >> we plan to do a first light overnight with a helicopter to determine if the oil has moved. there are wind projections that say that the oil could

move two to 4 miles south down the coast. >> the pipeline is operated by planes all american pipeline company. it has enacted an emergency response plan contracting two companies to do some of that cleanup. now, the cause of the rupture is still under investigation. eastern texas was under a tornado warning for most of the night. you're taking a look at new video of a funnel cloud forming over mineral wells near fort worth. the twister tour the roof off of a building and caused thousands of dollars in damage. that same severe weather system triggered downpours in wise county west of dallas. saint angelo texas got the most rain it had seen in 35 years. look at that. dozens of drivers reported getting trapped in their sinking cars. >> couldn't be more peaceful around here. >> no kidding. good news for texas the best chance of tornadoes is western texas today away from some of those areas. but strong straight line wind producing texas all the way to memphis today. double scan shows you as matt

showed you tranquil conditions. we have a fair amount of sunshine coming up on the horizon on sky six. some clouds still hanging around but we thin a lot of there evaporate. do we have sky six? there we go. there's the airport. a little bit of cloud cover out there right now. temperatures are cool, 62 degrees. dewpoint low and humidity way down there. winds out of the northwest at 8 miles per hour and for those of you watching in hd we brought in that always on day planner so you can kind of scout out how things are going to go today. winds are rolling out of the northwest instead of the south so that humid air down south is staying down there today and we're drawing in cooler drier air. most numbers in the single digits but as we go through the day we're looking at blustery cool kind of refreshing breeze developing going as high as about 25 miles per hour, at least gusting that high. satellite shows you the main cloud cover is off to the west and probably staying there today. i can't totally rule out some occasional clouds today but general eight speaking seems like it's going to be a fairly bright one for you. 63 degrees by 8 o'clock, 64 by 11:00. by 2 o'clock, we may still be

in the upper 60's but we will inch our way into the low 70's going for a high of 72 probably late in the day around 4 o'clock. and still holding onto 70 by 5 o'clock this afternoon. as we take a look at high temperatures across the region, stuck in the upper 60's in trenton allentown and reading but with low humidity a cool breeze, put on a light jacket its a pretty comfortable day for you. low 70's in philadelphia, wilmington millville, toms river and upper 60's down in atlantic city and in cape may with that breeze blowing. tomorrow we have a wave of low pressure that's going to be exiting the coast off the virginia north carolina coastline but it will be close enough to put some clouds across the region and that's going to help us cool down tomorrow. we'll probably stop in the 60's across most of the area and there's also the chance of some spotty light showers popping through areas south of philadelphia probably south of wilmington as well during the afternoon. most of that tapers off in the evening tomorrow. your exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, we're going for that high of 72 today. a fair amount of sunshine. breezy cooler and low humidity. not a bad combination. and then tomorrow cloudier and

cool, a high of 67. the farther north you are through the region tomorrow, say, up in the lehigh valley or points north of the pennsylvania turnpike, the better chance you have of seeing a little more sun and you might be a little milder up in those northern neighborhoods but down south you've got cool conditions and showers and philadelphia fairly cloudy. then as we head toward the weekend, friday breezy and warmer 78. saturday 71, a little cooler but sunny and nice, probably mid 60's down the shore and 78 partly sunny on sunday with clouds increasing during the day. down the shore probably closer to 70 for a high. for memorial day itself on monday we're looking at a mix of clouds with some sunny breaks, a high of 82. and and there is the chance of a spotty thunderstorm or two around but it doesn't look like a washout down the shore probably mid 70's. i'd just keep that storm tracker six app on my smartphone handy as you roll through monday just in case one of those spotty storms pop up in your neighborhood. >> okay. hamburger in one hand storm tracker six app in the other. we'll be ready. >> cheeseburger would be good. more stories you didn't

>> this one here in langhorne manor in bucks county. route one approaching hulmeville road. the accident northbound. you can kind of see from this shot the flashing lights and the jammed up traffic at this point. the accident is blocking the left lane so you've got to stay to the right and you're already jammed from past business route one to approaching hulmeville road. that's a new accident coming in right now. we also have this accident involving an overturned vehicle out here in chester county. route 10 compass road is closed at chris well road. if you're in this area use telegraph road or you can use sandy hill road as an alternate. and here is a problem that we have as well, an accident involving a tractor-trailer. police on the scene back ahead here off to the shoulder and we had an ambulance earlier. traffic is getting by on 202 southbound at high street but they may need to restrict it as they deal with this

accident scene. it has been out there a little while already. problems like this one in upper gwynedd township allentown road at south broad. it has been busy. an accident earlier on the schuylkill expressway eastbound approaching broad. that has cleared. still a disabled vehicle on the vine not far from i-95. you see those speeds on i-95 14 miles an hour southbound at girard so it's a slow go. and the weather is not any problem so we really can't blame the weather. 62 degrees right now in philadelphia t want the blame somebody when traffic is bad right? 54 in allentown, 59 in millville. nice and comfortable out there. dry today and this afternoon with a high of 72. nice spring day tam. >> thank you karen. this is new video of an suv that slammed into an apartment building in washington state. police say the driver narrowly missed a nine month old baby asleep in her crib. the nursery was destroyed. you'll see that. look at all that wreckage. the investigators believe person behind the wheel was a new driver who confused the gas pedal for the brake. >> the union representing amtrak engineers wants backup in the wake of that deadly

train derailment. it wants amtrak to add a second crew member at the controls for all trains operating in the northeast corridor. the doomed train 188 had a five member crew. engineer brandon bostian was in the locomotive but the other crew members were in passenger cars. amtrak has not had a second crew member in the engine car since the early 1980's. it says safety is the number priority but would not say whether it would make a change. the phillies continue their series in colorado tonight. pitcher severino gonzalez will be recalled from aaa lehigh valley and will step in for the injured chad billingsly. the phillies kept it close with the colorado rockies last night. tied until the bottom of the eighth but the rockies took it six to five snapping the phillies' six game winning streak. >> new this morning confirmation that the made in america musikfest value is coming back to philadelphia. the two day event will happen labor day weekend this year. the event which was start by jay-z will now be in its fourth year. however, who is performing is not yet announced.
