s everything. mother nature timed this perfectly. yesterday it was rainy 58 degrees. the temperature in philadelphia right now 75 degrees, a good amount of sunshine, washington, d.c. 78. if you look to the west, though, there is some cooler air waiting in the wings pittsburgh it's 68 degrees and there's a cold front that's beginning to press in. satellite6 along with action radar showing we're getting a few clouds bubbling up with this front. can't rule out the possibility of an isolated shower. but for most areas this front will move through dry and then broad area of high pressure sitting over the great lakes will be moving in overnight. so if you're heading out tonight out on the town this friday night holiday weekend take a jacket. at 7 o'clock still breezy, 71 degrees. by 8 o'clock 69 degrees. then the winds drop off, clear skies, 67 degrees by 9:00 and by 10 o'clock down to 63 degrees and overnight lows will be dropping down into the 30's and 40's. and future tracker showing tomorrow is definitely going to be other cool side.

we have a pocket of cool air that will be right over us with temperatures around 70 degrees. if you look at the south and west, though, there's building heat and humidity and that will be rolling in as we head through the weekend. so, ranking the days, kind of a tie between tomorrow and sunday depending on how you like the temperatures. if you like it on the cool side with sunshine you'll like tomorrow. if you like it a little warmer you'll like sunday and then on monday warm and humid for memorial day. i'll talk more about the weekend in detail including the shore and the poconos and then track a possible heat wave next week coming up in the full accuweather forecast, brian. >> all right, cecily, looking good. thanks very much. you know for so many people memorial day means that first weekend at the shore with the entire summer still ahead of us. and we've already seen some pretty big crowds enjoying the sunshine on the beads today. why not. new jersey correspondent nora muchanic continues our team coverage. she's live and one lucky lady in ocean city today. hi nora. >> reporter: hi there, brian. i. lucky today.

it is absolutely beautiful at the shore sunny and breezy. take a look down the boardwalk. as the day goes on the crowds increase and this is a happy lot. people are thrilled to be here for the kickoff of summer. folks are glad the sun is shining and ready to catch some rays. >> i'm real excited for summer. i just can't wait to get out of school. >> reporter: how about the beach. >> oh, i love the beach. >> reporter: emily owens of deptford was riding a surrey with her family this morning and riding high over the fact that summer season has arrived. >> it's a great time of year and this is a great place to be and the weather is perfect today, so family is down and we can't ask for more than that. >> three two, one. (applause). >> reporter: the official -- they unofficially unlocked the beach in ocean here in town with a ceremony that include add fully dressed crowd of business people and others marching straight into the ocean while the ocean city high school band serenaded them. it was quite a sight. how is the water. >> cold. gets real when it hits your

waist. >> reporter: is it worth doing it. >> absolutely. >> it's a great event. it's for the community but it's just so fun and refreshing. >> i went in on january 1st, the first of 2015 so the water wasn't that cold d the pant suit is a little much but it was a lot of fun. >> reporter: there are people sunning on the beach and the boardwalk has been getting more crowded as the day goes on. as families arrive start to snack and control on this beautiful sunny day. >> we get down here early so we can beat the crowd and then leave early. >> reporter: how the traffic? >> it was bad yesterday. >> i can't wait until we go in the water. make like some sand castles or something. >> i'm so excited. the heat and humidity was there getting ready for the summer but now it's just gorgeous down here. >> reporter: gorgeous indeed. look at this. you're looking live right now at the beach in ocean city where people are in bathing suits, shorts, t-shirts. it's a great day here at the shore. and as i said people as they get here, they're heading to

probably take two of those days to get where they're going. really busy this afternoon here on the schuylkill expressway. this is the eastbound traffic just past the roosevelt boulevard. taking you 40 minutes when it should be 14 minutes to get from the blue route into the vine. and i know it's a little bit difficult to see but here in the westbound lanes of the schuylkill approaching the boulevard looks like a broken down vehicle taking out the left lane. coming out of town, that is a problem on the schuylkill. we've had big delays this afternoon on 95 here in delco. southbound side because it was an issue up ahead on 95 with a construction vehicle that fell off the back of a truck just across the delaware state line. they got that construction vehicle towed away so everything is reopened. the southbound delay easing a bit. northbound now starting on the to stack as you head towards the commodore barry bridge to head into new jersey and down the shore. in new jersey 295 southbound plenty volume building headed towards 42. you probably don't want to do the new jersey turnpike southbound instead this afternoon. speeds like 11 and 13 miles per hour because of an earlier overturned vehicle crash

>> a temple university professor is now charged with offering u.s. secrets to china for his own benefit. xiaoxing xi stepped down as chair of the the first sits department following his area left. prosecutors say he planned to share highly classified technical data with kline in. in return he allegedly sought prestigious appointments in his home country. wendy saltzman will break down the charges in a live report at 94:30 today. >> from our delaware news room hazmat crews are working at a home in new castle where three people went to the hospital at three different times this week. a 79-year-old woman went to christiana hospital on tuesday where she decide died a short time later. well then the next day a 79-year-old man and a 58-year-old man both went to the hospital at separate times from the very same house. they're both in critical condition. crews from several state agencies took samples today to try to find out if something made them sick and if anyone else is in danger.

>> a firefighter was rushed to the hospital after he was injured battling a fire in camden. the two alarmer erupted in the former raffle's plumbing business on the 1100 block of canes of a early this morning. the firefighter suffered a leg injury inside the burning building and other firefighters helped rescue him. >> we pulled him out and a did a defensive operation. we didn't have anybody in the building for awhile. we tried to contain the fire as best we could. >> the injured firefighter was taken to cooper university hospital for treatment and is expected to be okay. people who live nearby say the building was vacant and is frequented by squatters. >> demolition crews are tearing down a home in west mount airy that neighbors had been worried about for months. we first reported on this story wednesday night. the home on west up saul street was already partially collapsed. neighbors say the elderly owner left some time ago. there were final notice stickers from licensing and

officials are calling it the great takedown and it went down at 11 o'clock last night. u.s. marshals washington d.c. and maryland police even helicopter backup all coming together to end the massive manhunt for darn wint. >> most amazing investigators. incredible what. >> wint is an exmarine and excon charged with first degree murder in the brutal deaths of 46-year-old savaas savopoulos his wife amy their son and housekeeper vera figure row. what his dna was found on a pizza crust left at the scene. >> you never know how a fugitive like this is going to react. >> when he was arrested he was traveling in a chevy with two women and another man. following wins vehicle a truck with two men inside, one reportedly his relative. the washington post reported there was $10,000 in cash inside that truck. >> we were able to stop them and arrest everybody with not a shot fired, nobody getting hurt. >> the marshall service said

officers just missed him wednesday night in new york city but picked up his trail again in maryland yesterday. police say this was not a random attack. >> we do believe that there is a connection between this suspect in this case through the business. >> at 1. wint worked for american iron works where savopoulos was ceo. according to one source wint allegedly stole $40,000 that was delivered to the home before police say he lit it on fire. and savopoulos' family said in statement that they were thankful and arrest was made and that while it doesn't ease their pain, they hope it can restore calm and security to their community. sharrie. >> progress in that case. okay alicia, thank you. one of the most recognizable landmarks in the entire world was closed for most of today because of growing concerns about pick pockets. workers at the eiffel tower walked off the job in protest today because of a spike in aggressive pick pockets near the site. they say it's not just a petty

and brings us a chilly sat saturday morning. 10 o'clock tomorrow morning if you're heading out for a walk on the boardwalk, a stroll in your neighborhood, might want to consider a sweatshirt. temperatures still in the 50's. as we head through the afternoon it will take most of the day to get up near 70 degrees spiteful sunshine. then we warm up to about 80 degrees on sunday. the week kicks off tomorrow, loads of sunshine really across our entire viewing area. philadelphia 70 degrees for the high. again a little bit below normal. low humidity though, a nice spring day. down the shore cool on the beach, 67 degrees. and the poconos certainly chilly for may with a high tomorrow of 61 degrees. so the four day at 4:00 showing tomorrow loads of sunshine, a cool start to the morning and then temperatures up to 70 degrees by the afternoon. we warm it up 10 degrees on sunday so low humidity, a few high thin clouds in the afternoon but still mostly sunny. monday, memorial day is when it really starts to feel like summer.

recall in u.s. history. takata's air bags deploy with too much force sending shrapnel into the car. the recall affects 34 million cars in america and 52 million cars worldwide. someone hacked the online hookup site adult friend finder. the company says whoever did it got access to the personal information of about 4 million people. that includes names and addresses but also sexual preferences and whether or not users are looking to cheat on their spouses. the company is asking investigators and private security firms to find out who did it. brian. >> all right. alicia thank you. the company that uses the oil pipe that leaked thousands of gallons of crude off the california coast says it could be weeks or even months before it finds out why this happened. planes all american says workers have not even uncovered the pipe just yet. about 105,000 gallons of crude spilled from that on shore

it works. just imagine a spin class in your own home. sounds like a lot of fun brian. we'll see you on "action news." >> i can't remember a spinning class anywhere. thank you very much. >> all right. >> one of pennsylvania's endangered species is being nursed back from the brink of extinction and this conservationist effort is happening right on top of philadelphia city hall. that's where four young per grin falcons have made their nest for several years in a row. every spring the pennsylvania game commission puts metal bands around their legs with unique numbers and the birds are spotted later in the wild those bands make them easier to identify and today's banding we're told went off without a hitch. >> it was a complete success. we have a foulbrood of young. they're all nice and healthy and we expect them to go far. >> banding of the young also provides important information about the birds' movement and their habitat needs year round all of which helps that species to grow more numerous.

>> new jersey state police found themselves with a unique traffic problem this morning. chopper 6hd was overhead as officials corralled a cow that was running loose on i-295 in hamilton township. the cow escaped from halal meats of trenton about 3 miles away. officials used a tranquilizers and the darts were meant to sedate the cow before moving it off the road. however, the cow did die in the process. >> no speeding this afternoon. you'll be stuck in traffic and you'll see the police officers their lights going because of a whole bunch of different issues around the region, brian are sharrie like this crash on the schuylkill expressway westbound between montgomery drive and the roosevelt boulevard. they just got it mostly pushed off to the side but the damage is done. westbound a solid line from vare avenue through this point approaching the boulevard and as you can see from the travel time eastbound is no better. bumper to bumper traffic from city avenue basically the whole way into the walt whitman bridge. you're looking at slow speeds on 95 headed towards the walt whitman bridge. don't have to tell you it's because of shore traffic of course. speeds in the 20's. farther north on 95 nearly a gain there's a broken down vehicle taking out the right lane. not good news if you're trying to get into the great northeast. a tacony palmyra bridge opening just wrapping up so that should be better shortly. here's good news for you shore bound travelers. heading out on the a.c. expressway starting 15 minutes and lasting one hour they're not checking tolls at the egg harbor toll plaza. save your three bucks a

outside, it is chilly but by the afternoon temperatures recover to about 70 degrees under full sunshine. that's still 6 degrees below average but a nice day. low humidity with high pressure really in control. as we head into sunday, this high pressure nudges just a little bit to the east so that brings us the return flow out of the southwest so our afternoon high jumps up 10 degrees 80 degrees, mostly sunny, some high thin clouds in the afternoon. still low humidity but heat and humidity is waiting and that will be moving in on memorial day and it will really intensify in the middle of next week. if you're heading to the poconos tonight, very chilly. tomorrow the afternoon high only 61 degrees. definitely want a sweatshirt in the poconos. plenty of sunshine. on sunday partly sunny 73 degrees. and ay on memorial day can't rule out the possibility of a pop-up afternoon thunderstorm. most of the day though will be dry with a temperature of 78 degrees. heading to the shore 59 degrees, the ocean temperature 67 degrees tomorrow.

>> "action news." delaware valley's leading news program. with jaime apody meteorologist cecily tynan rick williams and monica malpass. >> ♪♪ >> the atlantic city ocean is officially unlocked and the jersey shore is opened for the memorial day weekend. families are wasting no time in getting down to the business of relaxing. they're heading for the holiday with gas prices nearly a dollar below last year's. it is friday night. monica malpass is off. sharrie williams is joining us this evening and the big story on "action news" is the unofficial start of summer. >> people have big plans whether it's a memorial parade or time at the shore. we'll get to new jersey correspondent nora muchanic in ocean city in a moment but first let's head outside to meteorologist cecily tynan for a look at the holiday weekend forecast. hi, cecily. >> hi, sharrie. mother nature is cooperating with any weekend plans. it is beautiful right now. we do have a little dip in the temperatures coming our way tomorrow but take a look at the temperatures now.

in philadelphia it's 76 degrees. yesterday we were stuck in the 50's with the rain. washington, d.c. 79. if you look to the west, though pittsburgh, it's 67 degrees. there is a cold front that's moving through and this will bring us a drop in temperatures overnight and tomorrow. satellite6 along with action radar showing that that front is pushing in right as we speak and there is a sprinkle up in the lehigh valley. other than that, though, this front will be moving through dry. high pressure builds in behind that. that brings us the return of sunshine but temperatures will be dropping pretty quickly once the sun sets tonight. so, if you're out on the town on this friday night as we kick off the holiday weekend at 7 o'clock 71 degrees. by 8 o'clock 69. then by 9 o'clock the skies clear. the winds diminish, 67 degrees. by 10 o'clock, 63 and overnight lows will be dropping down into the 40's for most of our viewing area and even in the afternoon despite sunshine, it will be on the cool side. future tracker showing at 5 o'clock, 69 degrees in
