the beautiful weather. the shore has been packed since friday and it's still going strong. >> and we've got live team coverage this afternoon. meteorologist melissa magee with the latest from accuweather and a warmup coming our way. first to john rawlins live at the shore where people are getting the most out of every last second of this long holiday weekends. hi john. >> reporter: hi there. maybe every millisecond. the third day was the charm that's for sure of the three day holiday. first two days rather chilly and sunbathers were scares on these beaches. much different story today. it was at one point wall to wall people as far as the eye could see. >> just absolutely gorgeous. it's just great to be sitting on the beach enjoying the weather. >> reporter: kind of liberating. >> yes. >> reporter: after the winter. >> correct. >> reporter: it was worth the day trip. >> definitely worth the day trip. >> reporter: with lucy looking on squads of people hit the beach in margate today

does this is what it's all about, beautiful sunshine, beautiful beach, beautiful water. little cold but the -- the water that is. >> reporter: life on the beach was just fine. a great time to throw a football or do cart wheels if so inclined. too much activity for you? how about just sitting and veging out maybe catch up with a friend you haven't seen since, well, labor day. >> seeing all the friends that you never have seen all winter. a great time. >> reporter: people you haven't seen since the last shore season. >> exactly. >> yeah, we love it down here. >> reporter: while everything up on the sand was just perfect the water at 58 degrees remained a challenge as these three friends from cherry hill will attest. >> freezing cold. >> it feels pretty nice actually. i liked it. >> hypothermia, not positive. all good things including three day holidays must come to an end. soon it was time to consider the return journey. >> got to beat the traffic.

>> got to ahead. >> reporter: back west yeser. >> reporter: how was it. >> it was a greek weekend. we heard that a lot, that it was a great weekend despite the rather cool beginning on saturday and sunday. but it was a nice day today and now sharrie unfortunately all of us have to consider the drive back to the real world. live in margate, john rawlins channel6 "action news." >> all things coming to an end. john, thank you. in wilmington the city opened a public pool early so people there could enjoy the beautiful holiday weather. price's run pool will stay opened. all other city pools will open up on june 13. what a day it was to get outside. meteorologist melissa magee continues that team coverage with the latest from accuweather. hi, melissa. >> reporter: hi, sharrie. as john mentioned once you ventured back to the real world i think you'll be pleasantly surprised. we have really comfortable conditions across much of the delaware and lehigh valleys. in fact we have a warm streak for our memorial day. the high so far in

philadelphia 87 degrees. nine of the last 10 memorial days have been well above average and we were once again above the norm today. it's 86 in philadelphia, 81 in millville, 82 up in the poconos and lancaster out to the west 83. but much cooler with that south facing wind from beach haven down to sea isle city. temperatures are currently in the upper 60's. check out some of the wind gusts. even though it is warm today that constant breeze out of the south so it doesn't feel too bad winds gusting anywhere from 22 miles per hour in millville to as high as 30 miles per hour in philadelphia. so we've got you covered if you're spending the rest of your evening and the rest of your memorial day holiday outdoors. 7:00 p.m., 82, mostly sunny. still sunny at 8 o'clock with a temperature of 80. we'll drop down into the middle and upper 70's at 9:00 and 10 o'clock. if you like the warmth overhedda, brian, as early as tomorrow we're tracking the heat and the humidity, maybe a run at 90, details coming up with the full and exclusive accuweather forecast. >> you know the real world isn't so bad.

>> i pretty much like it. >> thank you very much. it was more about the sounds than the sights for people marking memorial day in valley forge national park. today people enjoyed the sun as part of the washington memorial chapel as that church's 58 bell paid patriotic tunes overhead. andy ambler decked out in red, white and blue for the holiday today. there the daniels w dowling american legion post honored veterans who served in all wars. >> the stars and stripes new high over bucks county. officials in doylestown raised a flag at the courthouse before kicking off a holiday parade. people lined the streets there to celebrate. the ceremony ended at doylestown cemetery. people also honored fallen soldiers at the washington crossing national cemetery in newtown. a single rose was placed on each grave site this morning along with a rose at each of the two memorials on display at the cemetery's remembrance

wall. there was also a special table set up to honor soldiers still missing in action. >> and thousands came out to observe memorial day in delaware county as well. the sun was shining brightly over the annual parade in radnor today. it ended at the town's war memorial where 88-year-old herman chikadel of delaware county got a long overduhon nor. he was presented the purple heart for wounds he sustained fighting in the second world war. in marple the morning celebrations began with a commemoration at the delaware county veterans memorial. the american legion post 805 hosted this year's annual parade which ended in a final observance at the veterans memorial park. >> crowds turned out across the garden state to celebrate memorial day. hundreds of spectators many of them veterans were in sea isle city today for its annual ceremony. a v.f.w. post commander read a roll call of the honored dead followed by a gun salute an wreath laying ceremony at the

veterans park memorial fountain. >> ♪♪ in wrightstown burlington county one man filled some very big shoes. sergeant richard printer who also went by the nickname the lone bugler was known for his taps performances on memorial day. he lost his battle to cancer in february. today josh lanthrop took misplace today. in gloucester county a remote controlled wooden boat gently dropped a wreath into the delaware river. quite a bit of markings happening today. we're paying attention to traffic as people return from the memorial day get away. >> john pointed out back to the real world. let's go live to matt pelman. matt we imagine things are going to pick up as the evening moves on. >> it's already not too good, pack up the kids, maybe several snacks its going to be

awhile if you're coming back from the jersey shore on this memorial day afternoon and not helping us out a crash in about the most inon that tune spot right on the garden state parkway northbound past ocean city marmora blocking the left lane. if you're trying to get north coming out of ocean city use the somers point bridge route nine. better than getting stuck in the jam because of the accident there. basically stop and go on the garden state parkway northbound from north of cape may the whole way up to the a.c. expressway. let's up at some point, just not a solid line but a lot of really heavy traffic. as you're doing your local detouring coming from avalon up to sea isle you can't use the townsend's inlet bridge that remains closed because of construction. 83 westbound heavy route nine heavy around northbound, 47 northbound busy from 15 up to peterson road. 347 is jamming as you head up toward the a.c. expressway in the northern area. on the a.c. expressway westbound really slow speeds around winslow. just 19 miles per hour.

luckily once you reach the 42 freeway here by creek road northbound northbound things loosened up. let's grab the ipad do the commuter report on this busy holiday afternoon. really heavy traffic at the delaware memorial bridge. were you ever our friends stopped in the gridlock took this picture. that doesn't look like a whole lot of fun at the delaware memorial bridge. we'll check it again more of the unpleasantness in the next half hour. >> matt thanks very much. police are investigating an early morning attack in south philadelphia. officials say a woman woke up to an intruder standing over her bed who then sexually assaulted her. for more on this now we turn to "action news" reporter chad pradelli live at the scene today on south rose wood street. chad, what's the latest here? >> reporter: brian the home invasion sexual assault happened about halfway down the block here on rose wood around 5:30 a.m. police are still trying to figure out exactly how that suspect got into the row home but they also believe he may be responsible for a similar attack just a few blocks away

two months ago. crime scene investigators spent the morning searching this home on the 1800 block of rose wood street searching for clues that might lead to a man who attacked and sexually assaulted a woman around 5:30. >> general feeling is concern that something like this would happen. >> for this to happen on this block it's ridiculous. it's crazy. outrageous. shouldn't go on like this. >> reporter: investigators say the victim a woke a man standing over her wedged he demanded money then sexual assaulted her. he fled in the victims 2007 silver toyota. it was recovered a few blocks away on moore street. detectives say the suspect may be the same man who robbed and attempted to sexually assault a woman in her home on the 1700 block of chadwick in march. he gained entry to that house through a window. in both crimes, the victims reported the suspect had on red gloves. >> it's so sad. i feel very sad for her.

>> i lope they find him. >> reporter: and investigators are working on some surveillance video and a awaiting test results on some fingerprints and dna to see if they can identify a suspect. i'm live in south philadelphia, chad pradelli, channel6 "action news." sharrie. >> okay, chad, thank you. authorities say an eight-year-old girl involved in a car crash in millville new jersey, has died from her injuries. witnesses say a black car and another vehicle were drag racing down buckshutem road yesterday afternoon. they say the black car lost control and crashed into a third vehicle at a stop sign. the crash killed 49-year-old michelle zimchuck. the defer of the car christopher platt died of his injuries. wendy saltzman will have more on this deadly crash coming up in a live report at 5 o'clock. >> much more to come on "action news" at 4:00 today. a one-two punch from texas from mother nature. the cleanup under way after

international. >> ♪♪ >> it was a deadly weekend for many in the country's midsection. a severe weather tour through parts of texas and oklahoma. and again today another tornado touched down in a town on the texas-mexico boarder leaving thousands of people fleeing for safety. >> oh, my god oh, my god. >> reporter: first devastating floods lead to dramatic rescues from the blanco river in texas. >> i kept calling him over and over. i was like are you okay, are you okay. he's like i don't know if i'm going make it. >> reporter: that river

rising 26 feet in just one hour destroying this concrete bridge. near san antonio flash flooding. near tulsa oklahoma firefighter jason farley died trying to save others. >> we suspect that he drowned got caught in the storm drain itself. >> reporter: in oklahoma city record rainfall and adding to of the instruction severe thunderstorms and tornadoes. >> it just happened so fast. >> reporter: outside houston an ef1 packing winds of 100 miles an hour demolished this apartment complex and this morning more tornadoes reported including a deadly one in acuna mexico near the texas border. these images from social media show the deadly devastation. the town is just 2 miles from the air force base. officials tell abc news that so far at least 13 people have

dead and one baby missing in that tornado that struck near the texas-mexico border and 12 more people are missing because of that flash flooding near the blanco river also in texas. so just a devastating couple of days for people there. sharrie. >> yeah, dangerous times alicia. thank you. meantime the majority of those arrested during protests in cleveland this weekend when a police officer was acquitted have been arraigned. 58 people appeared before a judge this morning on misdemeanor charges. 71 people were arrested saturday night after mostly peaceful protests turned more aggressive. a judge saturday found officer michael brelo not guilty of voluntary manslaughter in the november 2012 deaths of two unarmed black men. they were shot in a barrage of gunfire after a high speed chase. it was also very violent holiday weekend in baltimore where police say there were more than a dozen shootings leaving seven people dead. police say the city has seen a surge in violence since the death of freddie gray in

police custody sparked riots and protests. six police officers are facing charges in connection with gray's death. baltimore mayor stephanie rawlins blake calls the increase in violence disheartening. >> defense secretary ash carter getting heavy blow back today after his criticism of the iraqi army. he questioned that force's will to fight against isis and now leaders around the world are firing back. abc's karen travers has the latest on the growing tension. >> reporter: isis advance in iraq claiming control of the city of ramadi last friday and now a war words has erupted between u.s. and iraqi officials. yesterday some unusually harsh candid remarks from defense secretary ash carter in an interview with cnn. >> the iraqi forces just showed no will to fight. they were not outnumbered. in fact they vastly outnumbered the opposing force. >> reporter: other u.s. officials have accused the

iraqi forces of bailing on ramadi walking away from the battlefield nd leaving behind weapons tanks and humvees for the extremists to claim. the defense secretary said yesterday the u.s. led airstrikes have been effective but it's the iraqis havey that have to beat isis on the ground. >> we can give them training we can give them equipment we obviously can't give them the will to fight. >> reporter: in an interview with the bbc iraqi prime minister abbad dee said he was surprised by carter's comments comments. >> assure we can get back soon. i'm talking about days now. since friday tens of thousands of people have been displaced from the ramadi area. many trying to get to baghdad to flee the threat from isis. lawmakers have both parties criticized the obama administration for its current approach in iraq. >> these iraqi security forces have cut and gun we have tied our own hands in a variety of ways. >> reporter: senator john mccain has called for putting thousands of u.s. troops on the ground in iraq but president obama has said he will not put american troops

back in combat there. reporting from washington, karen travers, channel6 "action news"." >> president barack obama paid tribute to fallen soldiers at arlington national cemetery this memorial day. >> ♪♪ president obama laid a wreath at the tomb of the unknown soldier to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. he noted that americans could never fully repay the debt of those who gave their lives so that we could enjoy the freedoms that we have today. >> the americans who rest beneath these beautiful hills and the sacred ground across our country and around the world, they are why our nation endures. out there. meteorologist melissa magee in for adam today with the accuweather forecast. hi, melissa. >> hi, brian, hi sharrie. we had a fantastic start to the holiday weekend. the finish not so bad. currently across much of the area, locations along the 95 corridor and points to the north and west are in the 80's. it's 86 in philadelphia, 87 in allentown. and lancaster out to the west 83 but much cooler with that south facing wind from beach haven down to sea isle city. temperatures are currently just in the upper 60's. check out the dewpoint. we talk about this because this is a level of how much moisture is in the atmosphere and dewpoint temperatures are for the most part at 60 or below. any time that happens, you know, we've got a pleasant air mass overhead. so enjoy it while it lasts because we have some changes as early as overnight tonight and into the day on tuesday. so, dewpoints are coming up. by tuesday, we'll be in the middle and lower 60's, then the upper 60's as we get into wednesday, thursday, for that matter into friday, so it's humid, it's nearly oppressive

across the area. we have high pressure that's situated to our south and east. it's been parked there for most of our weekend. so we're tapping into that southwesterly wind flow and you also notice the frontal boundary draped across new england and back through the great lakes. that stays well to the north of us so we are pumping in the milder air from the south. now we'll show you storm tracker six live double scan raid darn where we are finding the warmth. we're also finding some unsettled weather tornado warnings and watches breaking out currently across texas and oklahoma and this location has seen more rain so far this year than they picked up all of last year so they have been inundated with the moisture and we need some rain coming our way, just not this severe weather. it's dry back here at home tonight. mainly clear and comfortable. we'll drop down to 65 in philadelphia, 61 in allentown for the overnight low and cape may will drop down to 63. future tracker six showing you as we go throughout the day on tuesday, that warmth really intensifies. by 10 o'clock in the morning in philadelphia, 80 degrees.

>> to business now, the markets are closed today in observance of memorial day. they'll reopen for a full trading day tomorrow morning. in other business news, this afternoon a $19 million settlement between target and mastercard after a massive data boo etch in 2013 is off. the deal didn't get enough support from the affected banks and credit unions. those if this institutions said the settlement would have to only cover a fraction of their losses. blackberry says it's about to lay off some of its employees but it won't say how many. the job cuts will affect

"action news" continues with a scare in the air. fighter jets escort a passenger line in j.f.k. after a threat is called in and that's not the only one authorities are investigate something police in new orleans searching for clues after an officer is shot and killed in his own patrol car. >> plus, a sky diver's terrifying turn his parachute slams right into power lines and the whole order deal is caught on camera. but the big story people across the country and around our area are remembering the fallen on this memorial day. a number of events are being held in bucks county. here ends with a community-wide barbecue at the local v.f.w. post and as you can see, lots of people still here. the turnout was amazing as these folks gathered to say thank you to the men and women who died in defense of american liberty. the annual memorial day parade here in croydon is a tradition for a whole lot of people who live in this part of bucks county. >> we come every year. we sit on this corner every single year for what, 20 years now, so it's a tradition. some of our kids are in the parade. we get to hang out with everybody, dressed in our red white and blue and support the troops. >> reporter: so did others. first and foremost to honor the men and women who lost their lives in defense of our country. the parade goers we spoke with here say this truly is a go-to event. >> i think as a community we all really come together and everyone has been in the community for so long, so it's really awesome to see. it's really wonderful, you know, nice to see generation after generation come through

here in honor of all of those veterans. >> reporter: state senator tommy tomlinson says the secret to the success of this event is the dedication. >> lady's auxiliary is phenomenal. it's well organized. it shows the community spirit these people have. >> reporter: a community spirit that extends to the youngest ones here. for example cadence says being named poppy queen was overwelling. >> it was amazing. i was shocked. my mom didn't tell me until later and i was frequently out. >> reporter: is she too much? very, very cute. all right, back out live coming up at 6:00 we'll introduce you to some of the wonderful veterans who took part in today's parade here including to men who fought in world war ii. that's coming up at 6::reporting live from croydon, walter perez channel6 "action news." brian. >> looks like a great day

walter. thanks very much. a hero from the civil war getting special honors on this memorial day. officials dedicate add plaque and also laid a wreath at the final resting place of major charles mchugh went here at the christchurch burial ground. he headed a regiment in the union league. he was the only founding member of that league to lose his life in combat. the action cam was there as they honored war dead at the delaware memorial cemetery in bear delaware. these wreaths were laid to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice during war time. small american flags were placed at the grave sites of service men and women who had been laid to rest at that ceremony. a lone bugler played taps. >> boy scouts took part in a ceremony in ridly park. they kicked off today's events here at memorial park with the pledge of allegiance. a number of veterans also came out to honor their fallen

comrades. >> ♪♪ in new jersey, the moorestown high school band played for the community at the annual ceremony at memorial park. the second baptist church choir alsoeny entertained the crowd. many saluted while the boy scouts raised the american flag. >> now we turn to accuweather. just a spectacular day for those with the parades picnics, beach and mountains. looks like we'll heat things up this week. >> ooh, the heat is on, guys. just get ready for these warmer numbers on the way much it's warm but it's comfortable outside right now. we'll show you this shot where everyone wants to be. if you're not already there down the shore in cape may you can see a lot of people on the beach and on the sand enjoying a spectacular monday with comfortable conditions, although the temperature that were is 69 degrees. the dewpoint 62. the winds are calm and the ocean temperature little chilly coming in at 62 degrees. we do have a constant breeze out of the south so it is making these warmer temperatures still nice and tolerable. it's 81 in millville.

6abc action. >> firefighters called out to minquedale. they were able to knock this fire out in 20 minutes. no word yet on what started the blaze. fire marshals are investigating. >> now to a terrifying sky diving accident that was caught on camera. a memorial day tribute went horribly wrong in tennessee when a skydiver hit power lines before slamming into the ground. abc's reena ninan has the story. >> reporter: police and the ntsb are investigating this dramatic sky diving accident caught on tape. watch as 27-year-old john pitts slams into power lines during a vietnam memorial day event in tennessee saturday. from another angle you can see pitts an experienced skydiver with over 1,000 jumps under his belt get tangled in wires before falling to the ground hundreds watching. ly. >> everybody around us started praying. it was very scary. >> reporter: jared was

jumping out of the same plane as pitts. he saw the accident play out a thousand feet below him. >> could have been very catastrophic. he's very lucky it turned out the way it digit this isn't the only recent sky dive gone wrong. watch as 22-year-old christopher jones' dive almost turned deadly last march when he suddenly fell unconscious suffering from a seizure midair. and just last year 25-year-old james lee knocked unconscious by another jumper. his friend somehow launching his parachute for him. lee regaining consciousness just in the nick of time. as for pitts a married father of two, he was air lifted to a nearby hospital and treated for minor injuries. he seems to be doing just fine. reena ninan, abc news, new york. >> now to another type of a scare in the air. a number of anonymous threats have been made against commercial airliners today. in one case fighter jets had to escort an air france plane to j.f.k. in new york city. authorities say the escort was

done out of the an abundance of caution. the fbi says the plane has since been checked and cleared. law enforcement officials tell abc news they're responding to a number of unconfirmed threats to several airplanes bound for different american airports. >> a man is facing charges after police found a pressure cooker in his car on the national mall over the busy holiday weekend. police found the device yesterday in the man's vehicle which was unattended at the time they became suspicious when they also smelled gas. officers closed off the area and called in the bomb squad to destroy the pressure cooker. the owner of the car was arrested and charged with driving with a revoked license license. police in d.c. have released for people who were detained along with the prime suspect in the killings of a wealthy family. daron wint is the only person

to be charged so far in the deaths of satisfy have a savopoulos, his wife, their 10-year-old son and their housekeeper. the four were held captive inside their mansion before they were killed and the house was set on fire. police say they believe wint had help from others. they say more search warrants can be expected in the coming days. >> police in new orleans are searching for answers after an officer for the city's housing authority was shot and killed. police found the officer's body early yesterday morning. he will be working overtime to guard a public housing construction site. police aren't releasing the officer's identity just yet but they do say he was 45 years old and had worked for that department for two years. he's the first officer for the city's housing authority to die in the line of duty. >> coming up on "action news" a-new study is shining a spotlight on sids. we'll tell was researchers say could put infants at risk. >> and we're certain you remember this guy the dover police officer who became a internet sensation for lip

demonstration with an explanation of the meaning of each fold of the flag. the flag was then presented to the niece of navy lieutenant edward romig of pottstown he went mia during the vietnam war. >> on health check at 4:00 a new study found infants living in higher altitudes may be more at risk of sids. a colorado study found that the higher risks to babies living above 8,000 feet but the research shows sids rates in colorado in the mountains is very low but it's still two times higher than in the denver area and other places where the altitude is below 6,000 feet. the study can be found in the journal of pediatrics. sids is the leading cause of infant deaths after the first month of life. celebrity chef sandra slow back home today after undergoing a double mastectomy. the 48-year-old left the hospital this morning after having the procedure done last week. lee learned she had breast cancer in late march after a routine mammogram.

niro did. things aren't looking great if you're headed back from the poconos back from the shore this afternoon. it's really busy. if you're headed northbound on the northeast extension toward the lehigh valley and toward the poconos, we have a vehicle on fire now t it's about 4 miles north of the mid-county toll plaza taking out the two right lanes. definitely causing slowing coming northbound from plymouth meeting but if you're coming southbound back from the poconos, i would also expect a gaper delay. here's the scene in the great northeast this afternoon. a broken down vehicle southbound lanes of 95 entering the work zone at cottman. police just pulled up to assist but that right lane is partially blocked. definitely a little bit of slowing and maybe it goes without saying but i'll say it anyway it's more than a little bit slow coming back from the beach on this memorial day afternoon thanks in part to this crash on the northbound side of the garden state parkway just past ocean city marmora. that means if you're coming out of ocean city, you want to use route nine, the ninth street bridge, route 52 to get over to the parkway instead of coming out through march morality back roads coming away from sea isle, avalon,

outside currently it's 86 in philadelphia, 87 in allentown the lehigh valley, up in the poconos not bad 82 degrees but along the coast it is much cooler with that south facing wind coming in off of the atlantic so it's 69 in sea isle city, beach haven 69. off to the west 83 in lancaster. here's satellite6 along with action radar high pressure has been situated to our south and east so we've been protected all of our weekend from this unsettled weather that is off to our north and west. we'll widen out the picture however. we have this ridge of high pressure over the midatlantic region and points to the south but on the backside of that ridge we are picking up some showers and storms streaming northward from the southeast and up to the ohio valley and we'll tap into a piece of this energy as the week wears on. the call from accuweather for the rest of tonight mainly clear, comfortable dropping down to 65 in philadelphia and 61 in the suburbs with that southwesterly wind. so it's all about the warmth working its way into our region. future tracker six showing you 7 o'clock in the morning it's

a bright and sunny start to our day. by the afternoon a few more clouds move on in. you notice that moisture i was showing you on the backside of that ridge of high pressure. we will find some showers and storms popping up to our north and west. so here's your setup tomorrow. it's hot. up to 90 degrees here in philadelphia. we're also going to notice an uptick in the humidity as well. an isolated shower or thunderstorm likely mainly north and west. on wednesday summer soup herbier go once again, a high of 90. it will be humid with those afternoon showers and storms inching closer and closer to the delaware and lehigh valleys so you need the sunscreen. make sure you keep yourself cool and have your umbrella on stand by over the next couple days. the accuweather forecast showing it's hot and humid tomorrow high temperature of 90 degrees, a stray storm north and west of the city. muggy midweek a high of 90 degrees with an afternoon shower or thunderstorm likely and showers and storms on thursday as well. the high of 86. some of these look to be more numerous throughout the afternoon. on friday, a high of 86 with a

finish to our holiday weekend. in fact very warm, very comfortable across much of the delaware and lehigh valleys. we have a warm streak going on. today so far in philadelphia, 87 degrees was the high temperature. nine of the last 10 memorial days have been well above average and no changing that this time around. it's 86 in philadelphia, 85 in trenton. in millville 80 degrees but much cooler with that south facing wind. you can see how it's impacting our temperatures. beach haven 69, same thing in sea isle city but off to the north and west up in the poconos 81, lancaster 82. so you look at the wind gusts and there are some out there. we're gusting anywhere from 18 miles per hour in millville to as high as 26 miles per hour for trenton beach haven and wilmington but with that constant southerly breeze, yes, it is warm but it doesn't feel too bad with the moisture and the breezy conditions overhead. here's satellite6 along with action radar. high pressure situated to our south and east and it's protecting us from all of that unsettled weather that is off
