there's something for everyone. >> ♪♪ >> "action news." delaware valley's leading news program. with matt o'donnell, tamala edwards, karen rogers and meteorologist, david murphy. >> ♪♪ >> good morning everyone. it's 5 o'clock on this wednesday may 27th and developing this morning. >> gunfire erupts in a philadelphia neighborhood. three people are wounded and a house is pierced with bullet holes. >> heavy rains and devastating flooding brings the city of houston to a stand still. >> accuweather is tracking another hot and humid day. this one with a chance for drenching thunderstorms later. >> david is off. let's turn to karen and matt for weather and traffic. >> good morning. much of the daytime is going to be dry but we are keeping a close eye on storm tracker six live double scan because we're tracking these storms for later on this afternoon.

so, currently dry through the area but it is warm, it is muggy already. 71 degrees currently in philadelphia. in the upper 60's in millville. low 60's right along the coastline but feeling really humid. we want the look at the dewpoints when some measures the moisture in the atmosphere. once you hit about 65 you know it's sticky. we're already at 66 in philadelphia. but how about dover 70, so feeling very humid, even more humid than yesterday although the temperatures not going to be quite as warm. overall expecting a high today of 87 degrees. it's warm and humid with sunshine, lots of clouds around. we're tracking those afternoon showers and thunderstorms because they could be drenchers but not everybody is going to see them. details on that coming up in that seven-day forecast in just a few minutes matt. >> definitely feeling like the heart of summer out there this morning. good morning to you, karen. as we head toward the heart of the morning rush hour, so far it's not terrible across the region but we're watching a few issue on the roads including a tanker truck accident on the pennsylvania turnpike. happened overnight in the westbound lanes approaching bensalem. that's route one. at this point the right lane

is blocked and speeds are in the 30's. as you come away from the connector bridge connecting new jersey with pennsylvania and head toward route one and eventually willow grove. right lanes blocked so a little bit slow but you can get by. you're getting by fine here on 95 its camera time in the great northeast by cottman avenue overnight construction has cleared out. all lanes opened here in the ongoing work zone and construction just cleared along 95 in newark. they were blocking a couple of those northbound lanes but now everything is reopened. in christiana still have some work along route seven northbound at 95 for the next half hour and we also have that work continuing from yesterday on a sinkhole in berlin blocking the ramp from the white horse pike westbound to haddon avenue. take 73 northbound to walker avenue back to the white horse pike to get around that. matt. >> thank you, matt. breaking news, a deadly accident in south jersey and there's a bit of mystery to this one too. now, this video just came in from the scene along the 1400 block of elm road in vineland. police say the driver lost control hit a guardrail and a

pole and was then thrown from the vehicle. the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. the accident scene way discovered at 3 a.m. but police believe the accident could have happened much earlier than that. and developing this morning, a barrage of bullets strike three people in a philadelphia neighborhood and what's more, four more gun shots pierced a home where a family was sleeping inside. "action news" reporter john rawlins is live near the scene in west oak lane. john. >> reporter: hi, matt. i'm at 16th and kens day. police say trouble started about 11:30. they got multiple calls to the 911 system about multiple gun shots. when they got here they transported to men to the hospital themselves. a third man was transported by the medic he is in critical condition shot in the back. in all three men were shot, one of them is in critical condition at einstein. police say the balance elastic evidence is 12 slots in all were fired in this normally quiet corner of west oak lane.

four of the bullets went wild and slammed into that the first floor of a home on kirk dale. three people inside at the time a mom and her two sons. fortunately they were unharmed. they were asleep on the second floor. at this point no description of the shooter. he is towed have fled north here on 16th in a white vehicle, so again, not a lot of description there. police are hoping -- well, let's put it this way. there are a number of video cameras in the area. they're hoping that one of those video cameras caught something that will be good -- will help them in this investigation. live in west oak lane, john rawlins, channel6 "action news." back to you all. >> okay, john, thank you for that. it is 5:04 now. and philadelphia police are desperately trying to track down a predator. they say he's already struck at least twice. sources say the suspect was leading in the shower of a south philadelphia home on monday. he waited for the victim to go to sleep and then he sexually assaulted her. police think this is the same

man who back in march attacked o woman in her home in point breeze. he entered through an unlocked door or window. >> the underage and unlicensed driver that was that the wheel of of a crash that killed three teen. the 16-year-old was placed on probation yesterday. the judge in wayne county ordered her to do community service, pay restitution and write apology letters to the families. the three students from council rock high school south were in the suv she was driving when it crashed in the poconos back in august. her father, michael wear, phases charges for giving his underage daughter permission to drive the suv. >> atlantic city school district was forced to lay off another 32 teachers. this was part of a second wave of state mandated cuts. the state monitor overruled an attempt to spare the teachers' jobs at last night's school board meeting. he says he knows the changes are difficult but that they simply don't have the money. another three dozen tenured educators will bumped to different positions. however, the board did not

eliminate extracurricular programs and sports. >> developing right now the death toll in texas continues to rise even as some of the flood waters recede. many more people are still missing and incredibly, more heavy rains are falling there right now. erin o'hearn is live in the satellite center with more on this. erin. >> reporter: matt, unbelievable what they're going. there was a dozen people have lost their lives to the holiday storms over the weekend in the lone star state. county officials estimate that there are 11 people still missing in the area. among them, laura mccomb and her two children ages six and four who you see there. they were inside this vacation home when it was swept away by raging waters. now, the area received more than a quarter of the city's yearly rainfall in just 24 hours. residents are now surveying the damage that is being measured in miles. >> i was sleeping in that room last weekend. i was here for a niece's

wedding. i was sleeping in this room and all of the furniture just left. the wall is gone. >> reporter: it is estimated that 4,000 properties have sustained significant damage. there were more than 900 emergency calls and 500 of them were water rescues. just a horrible situation in that news coming from down south. we're live in the satellite center erin o'hearn channel6 "action news." >> thanks erin. a police video camera captured video of a tornado losing moving across a busy intersection in beaver creek ohio which is near dayton. witnesses saw it touchdown in a shopping center. the twister flipped a number of cars in the parking lot. two people suffered minor injuries. the national weather service later confirmed a tornado did indeed form there. >> now turning to take a look at what we're going to face here. this afternoon depending on where you are could be very active. >> and our greatest risk at this point for severe weather would just be those heavy downpours with the humidity so high but we have a low risk for strong winds so we're watching these storms really careful. on storm tracker six live

double scan you can see nothing has developed just yet. we expect much of the day to be dry. not a bad day but certainly feels warm and humid. let's go outside and see what it looks like right now at sky six looking live at philadelphia international airport. you shouldn't have any big problems right now flying out. currently no major issues heading out the door. it's later today that you want to watch for that. that current temperature sitting at 71 degrees, feeling sticky. the dewpoint 66, way up there. the winds out of the south they're light and the barometric pressure currently holding steady. satellite6 and action radar showing just a few clouds out there and you can start to see those showers take form out to the west. we're watching a line of storms that's going to develop a little later and future tracker six showing at 4:30 heading through the area out to the northwest and you see some of those areas of not just red but even purple sometimes indicating such downpours we could get hail with some of these storm. wednesday at 8 o'clock the line starts to break apart as it moves through the region, through philadelphia and further still breaking apart but still a chance anywhere in

the area, the best chance would be those areas north and west. but as we look at the risk assessment the main issue is heavy downpours. not everybody is going the see them. we really need the rain. not everybody will get it but any one of those storms could produce very strong downpours. a moderate risk for lightning and a low risk for strong winds hail and very low risk for isolated tornadoes. the best chance for anything other than tornadoes would be those strong winds. we talked about texas and oklahoma the severe weather 30 day rainfall, 10 to 20-inches as you can look at the severe rainfall that they've gotten. for us we're expecting just a few downpours with any one of those storms, not nearly as dramatic obviously. let's look at your exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast. much of the day today is dry but it's going to feel sticky. it's warm and humid with some of those thunderstorms moving through and the best chance later this afternoon into the early evening hours, a high today of 87. tomorrow some sunshine and a few more storms around. a high of 86 degrees. friday looks pretty nice,

though, partly sunny skies, 85 with the temperature coming down just a notch. by saturday it's a bit warmer but dry and 88 degrees. sunday looks to have more clouds and some showers even the possibility of a steadier rain at times on sunday so we'll have to keep an eye on that forecast especially for the phils. on monday much cooler. look at that temps 73 degrees. the clouds move in. chance of some of that rain really lingering. on tuesday it's breezy and nice and 74. so, it starts off feeling like summer is. we get more spring by the end of the seven day. >> we will deal. thank you karen. 5:10 now. next and new this morning, investigators out west comb through the ashes of a suspect sunshines blaze that claimed the lives of three people. >> an entire neighborhood falls victim to vandals in new jersey. matt. >> going a little bit old timey this morning with the black and white camera here on 202 in chester county. they cleared out the overnight construction here in the northbound lanes approaching 29 so that's good news but still construction on the northeast extension and a crash on the east-west turnpike after the break. >> and also a little bit later

along 422. happened in the eastbound lanes just east of the oaks interchange. they worked during the evening and nighttime hours but as you can see traffic is getting by over the little bump this morning. they patched that buckle looking better here along 422 eastbound but today new construction starts along 422 the ramp from 724 to the eastbound lanes in pottstown. this was originally supposed to happen on may eighth. now it's today that they're going eclose that ramp long term as they rebuild it. so what that means is the route 100 interchange is going to take some extra volume because that ramp is going to be shut down. still some overnight construction on the northeast extension northbound. still without the right lane on the west-west turnpike as well. westbound direction approaching bensalem because of that tanker truck accident blocking the right lane. you can get by but speeds are in the 30's so a little bit slow. a crash this morning in mansfield township in burlington county along route 68 by the new testament baptist church. we're still watching that

crash in vineland at orchard and elm. the action cam was on the scene. horrible accident where a vehicle ran off the road way and into the woods. stick with delsea drive and walnut road to get around restrictions here in the woods in vineland. time for the commuter report brought to you by the waze app and our old pal happy harry says watch out for a pothole in the road along 76 eastbound near gulph mills. certainly don't want to hit that. tam. >> no, you don't. thank you matt. investigators are calling a deadly fire in culvert washington state suspicious. investigators found the home engulfed in flames and three bodies inside. a neighbor tried to kick the door down to help the victims but that fire was just too intense. the sheriff's office is waiting for the medical examiner's report. some residents in monmouth county, new jersey, came home to find their cars and homes spray painted with disturbing images and words. police say vandals hit 16 homes sometime over the holiday weekends. they believe this was a random act and that nobody was

specifically targeted. police are following leads but so far they haven't made any arrests. >> the phillies will try to snap a three game losing streak when they wrap up their series gee against the mets this afternoon in new york. michael franco capped a four run rally with a two out rbi single. they went to extra innings where the mets fell off the phillies five to four. new york rangers beat the tampa bay lightning seven to three last night to force a game seven in the eastern conference finals. that game will be played on friday night in new york. the ducks and blackhawks play tonight in chicago. anaheim leads the western conference finals three to two. >> it's now 5:16 and cyber thieves hack into a government agency's web site stealing taxpayers' personal info. >> cutting the cord. new research finds waiting a few minutes after a baby is born could lead to benefits years later. karen. >> storm tracker six live double scan showing we are dry for now but change is coming later this afternoon. details in that forecast coming up next.

>> well, it certainly looks like they were drawing the lane markers freehand in washington state. the department of transportation says workers were striping lanes along i5 in everett when their machine malfunctioned leaving a wobbly yellow line running down the hov lane. crews plan to paint over the yellow jiggles with black paint. >> machine malfunction, sure. >> happy hour at lunch. >> one of the times we don't want you to follow the lines. >> no. >> from washington to fort washington let's go outside to the pennsylvania turnpike. that's the one at the bottom of the screen running horizontally. the one running vertically is 309. we're here at the fort washington interchange getting reports of another problem on the turnpike westbound approaching fort washington with some debris in the roadway. like that crash by bensalem you can get past it without too much of a issue. in devon the horse is show continues this week. that means extra traffic along route 30, lancaster avenue. tonight once again is media's

dining under the stars. that means the route 101 trolley won't be running between monroe and arm street starting just before 5:00 and will etch ooh. :because of dining under the stars. doesn't that sound nice, karen. >> that sounds lovely. i'll be sleeping under the stars, they'll be dining. 71 degrees right now philadelphia, it's 72 in allentown and 69 in millville feeling warm and sticky out there already today. yesterday's high 89 was the warmest day we had so far this year. we're not quite getting there today but it's going to feel like it when you add the humiditily by 9:00 a.m., seven. by 3:00 p.m. 86, our high today 87. we'll be coming down from that at 6:00 p.m. 82 degrees. much of the day is dry but we're going to watch for these storms to develop from anywhere from about 4 o'clock on. they'll be starting out in the northwest and pushing east. you'll have to watch for the potential of downpour pours with. that humid today with a few showers or thunderstorms, a high of 87. some sunshine and still a few
