>> ♪♪ >> developing right now on "action news," gunfire erupts on a philadelphia street. three people are shot and stray bullets strike a home that had children sleeping inside. >> a sexting problem plagues two schools in cape may county. male students are accused of swapping photos of girls like they were trading cards. >> storm tracker six double scan radar is tracking the chance for some drenching downpours coming in later this afternoon. >> hey everyone, it's 6:30 on this wednesday. david is off. we have karen rogers and matt pelman. good morning. >> good morning. we're starting off with cloudy skies so as you step outside you feel the humidity but it doesn't feel terribly uncomfortable yet. i want to show you the temperatures. 72 already in philadelphia, 71 in allentown and wilmington, 69 in millville. just in the low 60's right along the coastline. satellite6 and action radar showing we're really socked in under the clouds but you can see the breaks in the clouds along the coast and just to our west so we're going to see some sunshine mixing with the clouds and you see those showers just starting to take shape in pittsburgh. here's how the day is going to play out. by 9:00 a.m., 77 degrees, lots of clouds and some sunshine

mixing through. by noon, we're up to 84 but it will feel warmer than that when you factor in the humidity. by 3:00 p.m., 86 degrees and i'd say any time from 4 o'clock on we're watching for these storms to develop. they'll start out through the northwest and through the dinnertime some of them getting near philadelphia, 82 degrees. your high today is 87. as we look at storm tracker six live double scan, doesn't look very impressive, does it? just those showers out near pittsburgh. i have future tracker six standing by and it's really a great tool to show how these storms blossom when they ignite with the heat of the day. so, you'll get to see that and see where and when they hit coming up in just a few minutes, matt. >> all right, karen. future is not bright, a the least not at the moment for the drivers on the pennsylvania turnpike westbound. this crash involving this tanker truck happened about 3:45 this morning and they're still out here cleaning up. , see the truck is off the road attached to a tow truck but they still have the right lane blocked westbound approaching the bensalem interchange. that's exit for route one and it's been that way now for

hours so with just that left lane squeezing by, right here in the construction zone, we are looking at miles of jammed traffic coming in from new jersey on the westbound side of the pennsylvania turnpike. as chopper six is panning back you can see the turnpike crews out there in the long line of stopped traffic waiting to get past the accident scene. let's go to the maps. if you're coming in from new jersey into pennsylvania, i would bail at delaware valley, take 13 on down to street road run street road over to route one northbound. from there you can get on the westbound side of the pennsylvania turnpike and bypass the tanker truck accident altogether. on the northeast extension it's just construction northbound between lansdale and quakertown that's taking out the right lane not causing a huge delay. this is the schuylkill expressway by 476, the blue route. eastbound traffic stopped headed in towards the conshohocken curve, just normal morning volume building in here and we're seeing that volume as well on 95, southbound side from academy to cottman the betsy ross bridge to girard. on the new jersey turnpike in

gloucester county watch out for a crash between exits one and two. not causing a huge jam at this point. tam. >> okay, thank you matt. and this is breaking right now. there's an active police investigation in south philadelphia. this is going on on that same block where a woman was sexually assaulted earlier in the week. so, let's get right over to john rawlins. he's live on the 1800 block of rosewood with details. good morning, john. >> reporter: good morning, tam. yes, police are still on the scene although they seem to be exiting the scene at this point in time. what we were told is that overnight probably about two or three hours ago a man tied to open a door of a house here in the 1800 block of rosewood where two women reside. did he not gain entry to that door. but he has been taken into custody or an individual has been taken into custody to be questioned about all of this. now, this happened in the wake of a sexual assault that occurred here in the 1800 block of rosewood earlier this week. in that case a man waited inside a shower for a victim to fall asleep and then attacked. now, police have issued a

sketch in that particular case and there is also a possible link to an earlier robbery and assault last march in the 1700 block of chadwick. again, police in the wake of both of those assault cases have been urging people whoever to be on the lookout to be careful and to be careful to lock their doors and windows particularly at night. again, the situation here police have just now exited this scene here in the 1800 block of rosewood again for the second time this week. they say a man earlier today had tried to open a door of a house where two women were living at the time. he did not gain entry to that house, though an individual has been taken into custody to be questioned about the situation. live in south philadelphia, john rawlins, channel6 "action news." back to you all. >> okay, john, thank you for the latest. in another developing story now, three people are recovering after bullets went flying overnight in west oak lane section of philadelphia. this happened just before 11:30 on the 1500 block of kinsdale street. police say that two of the three people are in stable condition.

the third is critical. several bullets also went through a home in the area. police also tell "action news" that a mother and two children were inside asleep. luckily no one unside the house was hit. police are still looking for the gunman. no word on the motive for this triple shooting. >> 6:35 and breaking right now, a deadly accident in south jersey with mysterious circumstances. it happened along the 1400 block of elm road in vineland cumberland county. police say the driver hit a guardrail and a pole and was thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. the wreckage was discovered at 3 a.m. but police believe the accident could have happened much earlier. and developing a man was murdered in camden overnight and the county metro force is now on the case. the 32-year-old victim was shot to the back at eighth and jefferson streets just after midnight. he later died at the hospital. police are talking to potential witnesses to help determine who shot the man and why. >> ♪♪ >> and happening today, former pennsylvania senator rick santorum is excited to say

he's getting into the already crowded field for the republican presidential nomination. he's scheduled to make an announcement later today in his hometown of butler pa, that's near pittsburgh. santorum was the republican runner up to mitt romney in 2012. happening today, testimony is scheduled to begin in the trial of a bucks county man. he's accused of killing a pregnant woman and her four-year-old daughter. prosecutors say marcel johnson stabbed ebony bailey and rmani ranking. he alleged eightly set their levittown apartment on fire trying to cover up the murder. johnson could get the death penalty. >> mother nature will stir things tup later. >> really. unofficial start of summer so now it feels like summer all of a sudden. it will go back down to spring later. we're all over the place. let's take a look at storm tracker six live double scan around the area we're dry and you know what, much of the day is dry. the storms develop pretty late in the day and i'll show that you in a second. let's go outside and see what it looks like at philadelphia international airport.

looking live right now looks like a plane may be just about to taxi out there. sky six looking live and you can see the clouds up above. we do have cloudy skies currently in the city and so you want to watch that as you're headed out. the sun will break through later. that temperature 72 degrees right now philadelphia. look at the dewpoint. 67. any time you hit 65 you know it feels sticky so we're feeling humid already. the winds out of the south at 10, just a little bit of a breeze. that feels pretty good. the barometric pressure is currently holding steady. satellite6 and action radar showing we have a good batch of clouds right overhead in the city. you're starting to see some breaks east and west and we'll get some sunshine mixing with the clouds just some showers that are starting to form out well to the west but they're going to ignite with the heat of the day and you're really going to see that here on future tracker six. look at 6 o'clock this afternoon. we see a line of storms develop and you see the dark colors. that's future tracker's way of showing us heavy downpours. i think that's the greatest rick of that, heavy downpours even a potential low potential but potential

nonetheless for hail forming any time you see those areas of purple indicating that. by 8 o'clock in the evening we're watching it cross through the city, kind of moving slowly as this storm progresses and it looks like it might fall apart by the time it tries to hit south jersey and delaware. we really need the rain. not getting a lot with this but any one of these storms could produce some good downpours. the storm's prediction center has placed us in a low probabilities of getting gusts up to 60 miles an hour with those downpours. we have to watch the potential for any of those strong storms to develop. by 8:00 a.m., 76, clouds, sunshine mixing through. 11:00 a.m. 82, by 2:00 p.m. 86. your high today 87. we'll be at that at 5 o'clock as we start to see some of those storms develop from west to east. here's a look at your exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast. humid today with some scattered thunderstorms an high of 87 degrees. tomorrow some sunshine an few more storms i think they'll be

>> delicious cookies now. i better get some. vending machine here i come. but for now matt and tam let's talk about this truck accident that we have been watching all morning long on the pennsylvania turnpike westbound. chopper six was overhead just a bit ago. this is a mile approaching the bensalem interchange. that's the exit for route one. the crash just involved that tanker truck. one vehicle accident. happened about 3:45 this morning. you can see the truck ran off the road. tow trucks there now getting ready to tow away the truck and we're hearing that both lanes should be opened here in the work zone within the next 15 minutes or so. they think by 7 o'clock both lanes will be reopened but for now, it's causing miles of heavy traffic as we come back out here. if you're coming in from new jersey across the connector bridge, i would bail at the delaware valley interchange run 13 on down to street road, take that over to route one to the westbound side of the turnpike. again, we'll keep watching it. should be opened before too long. new crash in norristown along west main street and hamilton street. we're slow going on 422 eastbound with speeds in the

20's but they did patch that road buckle i was telling you about yesterday afternoon. but there's a new problem to watch out for here in delaware county. it's a vehicle on the guardrail on the ramp from 95 southbound to 320 providence avenue. police are on the scene. you can squeeze by but we're seeing some slow traffic on that ramp from time to time. slowing in the main lanes of 95 southbound in the normal spot in the teens by the betsy ross bridge and by girard. normal delays also forming on the schuylkill expressway. and it was a nasty crash overnight in vineland cumberland county. a vehicle ran off the road into the woods along orchard road at elm road. this morning i would stick with 47, delsea drive and walnut road as alternates. matt. >> thank you matt. authorities in cape may county, new jersey, have busted a widespread student sexting ring and one school official believes investigators only cracked the surface of a much deeper problem. erin o'hearn is lie at the big board with that story. erin. >> reporter: matt, this was a big bust. it involved 20 students altogether, 19 juveniles and one 18-year-old. all of those charged with

invasion of privacy were from lower cape may regional high and teitelman middle school which is all a part of lower cape may regional school district. a girl told officials boys were passing around naked picture of her friend via text which led to police seizing 30 cell phones which had images of partially nude or nude girls. what may be more troubling is the superintendent says this may not be the end of it and believes there may be more students involved and more nude pictures. according to parents, this was all part of some game in which the girls were actually aware that the boys were trading them and several girls actually shared their photos. so far no female students have been charged and that is something that is not settling well with one parent who did not want to be identified. >> need to step back and really take a full look did this. i mean, the girls are just as responsible as the boys. >> reporter: now many of the

students who were charged have retained attorneys and "action news" is told they are cooperating with police but invasion of privacy is a third degree crime and could come with jail time for that 18-year-old student. we'll keep you updated on 6abc.com, tam. >> thank you erin. well, lilly pulitzer the company is reacting to allegations of fat shaming. a recent magazine profile of the colorful fashion resort company features pictures taken inside its king of prussia headquarters. one showed drawings in an employee's cubicle which showed overweight women with a caption of just another day of fat, white and hideous. the company says the drawing was the work of one person and not reflective of its value. >> 6:45. a live preview of "gma." >> and a gps leads two suspects right into the hands of police in a philadelphia
