involves two young teens. john rawlins live in allentown with details on this this afternoon. john. >> reporter: brian, this is 1700 plus students here in allentown. authorities saying next to nothing at this point other than to confirm they're investigating an alleged rape. the allentown school district not returning calls about the alleged rape not saying when it happened other than this movement it took place in the basement which students say is under the school's gym and contains await training facility. the perpetrator a 15-year-old boy the victim a 16-year-old girl. reactions from students range from shrugs to alarms. >> i saw it on facebook. >> reporter: you saw it on facebook. >> and the reaction of those around you how did they react. >> i don't know, they were like -- they were mad surprised about it. >> reporter: they were surprised. >> yeah, 'cause they didn't know something like that would happen here. >> reporter: other students off camera only skeptical whispering it was a consentual

relationship gone bad. this man summarized what those students were saying. >> a girl wouldn't just go downstairs with a guy for no reason in the basement. obviously she must have known him or they were friends or that could have been her boyfriend at the time. >> reporter: parents surprised by the news and asking why they had not been alerted by the allentown school district about an alleged sex crime. >> i'm annoyed. i'm upset because this is a serious matter and we should have been notified. we had no knowledge of this, nothing at all. >> reporter: no letters. >> my daughter is a student here. >> reporter: well, the parent saying he's just baffled the school often will make -- very quick about making calls about tardiness and other issues but something like this no alert this. he's as i said baffled. live in allentown, john rawlins channel6 "action news." >> john thanks. vatican official in charge of the world meeting of families is reportedly under investigation now for embezzlement. european news organizations are reporting that archbishop

paglia is among the people suspected in connection with the sale of an historic castle in italy. the building was sold four years ago for about $1.1 million. at the time he was serving as the bishop of the town where that castle is located. prosecutors say paglia led the conspiracy to buy that castle with church money at millions of dollars less than its market value. philadelphia archdiocese released a statement today saying they are "saddened by the news but that it will not affect plans for the pope's visit here in september. >> police in delaware say they've taken down a massive drug operation. dozens of suspects are in custody facing hundreds of charges. new castle county police held a news conference today announcing that 42 people have been arrested for dealing and possessing drugs. most of the arrests were made yesterday and included the fbi, the state police and wilmington police department. police confiscated more than 10,000 bags of heroin, 27 grams of marijuana

little lighter this afternoon and that sea breeze going to work in the 60's at the shore. take a look at those dewpoints. yesterday they were on the verge of 70 degrees. right now they've dropped back into the 50's especially north of philadelphia. 60's to the southly so it's just slightly humid especially south of the city. but double scan live radar will show storms are firing up from pittsburgh to washington. they've been suppressed to our south temporarily but they will be moving back to the north over the second half of the weekend. but for tonight it's looking pretty good no matter where you're going. if you're heading to the phillies, 811th pitch. by the ninth inning 75 degrees with some light winds under a partly cloudy sky. we'll talk about those changes that will arrive over the weekend. and time those storms possibly on sunday in the full accuweather forecast. alicia. >> adam thank you. we're moving into mosquito season. while people in part of south jersey were sleeping county workers were spraying in hopes of killing the bugs and stopping the spread of diseases like west nile virus. eva pilgrim is live in cherry hill to tell us more about this initiative to get those

across the city. >> looks like fun. tens of thousands of people are driving to delaware this weekends for the nascar spring races in dover. the action cam was outside the monster mile where campers in rv's started showing up in force today. the weekend full of racing will culminate with sunday's sprint cup series fed ex 400. the track itself has a new safety fence this year as well as more than 17,000 fewer seats. >> well, you know, speaking of the weekend something tells me people got ahead start on this one. >> you think so? >> maybe. >> if the roads are any indication on that. autumn marreese is standing by. >> people are racing to get home. look at that. 29 at 202 south in malvern. you can see penndot arriving just in time on the scene police on the scene. we have an accident here. you can see it's not blocking any of the lanes, just causing a little longer slow down than normal on 202 southbound and over the big picture you can see speeds across the region

in the teens on 95 as well as the blue route, 34 miles per hour on the schuylkill expressway. we just had an accident westbound clear on the schuylkill expressway right around girard avenue. there are some things still off to the shore. again the accident has cleared. v56* looking like a parking lot in the westbound lanes if you're heading up to the schuylkill. very slow going from 95 to the schuylkill. eastbound moving a little slower as you're making your way up towards the ben franklin bridge. we have a few incidents to tell you about right now. in sunset township pinehurst road we have a chemical spill. this is between lakewood road and monmouth road. high bridge road is going to be your alternate around that. again brian mentioned down in dover it's a big weekend. dover international speed way you can expect high volume on route one and route 13. and in new jersey, southbound 130 at crescent boulevard we have an accident as you're a and projecting the 42 freeway. taking a look at the 42 freeway we can expect big delays here later on but still looking good right now. back to you.

hastert. >> turns outer even an international scandal couldn't stop fifa's sitting president from being reelected. seth blatter will serve a fifth term as a head of soccer's world governing body. the 79-year-old was elected today in switzerland where just days ago officials arrested some of that organization's very top leaders. he was only facing one other candidate, prince ali bin al husain of jordan. several other candidates dropped out saying the process was a fraud. blatter has been implicated in

several corruption scandals but is not facing any criminal charges at this point. his new term is for four years. he's already been in charge of fifa since 1998. >> amtrak is trying to return personal belongings to the passengers who were on board train 188. when that train derailed on may 12th many of the victims went straight to the hospital and never got their bags. others left the scene of the crash without their belongings belongings. amtrak says it recovered items from the wreckage. amtrak sent a letter to those passengers telling them about the process. eight people died and more than 200 people were hurt in the wreck. in some parts of texas today, everywhere you turn there is water. on this highway in dallas hundreds of drivers were stuck for hours in flash floods over took the road. drivers couldn't go forward or backward. all they could do is wait and just hope that water would recede. crews finally brought in heavy equipment to remove the concrete barrier in the middle so that drivers could turn

around. >> never seen anything like this. ain't no way to get to work today. >> wow. amazing rescues there. rescue crews themselves even found some problems there. take a look at this video of a police officer stranded in his suv in flood waters weeks ago reese rescued by a chopper. >> dennis hastert stepped down from his job at a d.c. lobbying firm today in the wake of his indictment by a grand jury. he's facing mysterious criminal charges. he's accused of paying someone 3-pointer $5 million to keep quiet about something in his past and then lying to investigators about the whole thing. no one has said yet exactly what the coverup is about but the indictment seems to indicate that it has to do with his time as a teacher and wrestling coach in yorkville illinois. >> the united states government took another step toward normalizing relations with cuba today by removing the island nation from the

list of state sponsors of terrorism. secretary of state john kerry signed the order which came 45 days after president obama first announced plans for it. u.s. lawmakers didn't do anything to block the move. removal from the terror list is a key demand from cuba as part of the ongoing negotiations between the two countries. >> the u.s. economy shrank in the first quarter of 2015 even though the government originally projected that it grew. the commerce department says gross dom met particular product which is the value of goods and services produced in the united states was down .7 of a percent down from the original projection that it grew .2. economists say a widening trade gap is to blame. that news sent stocks falling right at the open today and they had a very difficult time recovering. in fact, they did not. take a look at the closing numbers. the dow off 115 points to close at 18,010. nasdaq also off about 28 points. the s & p down 13 on the day.

the government is using today's date to promote awareness about a college savings plan. today is may 29th or 529. it's also the name of a tax advantage college savings plan that's sponsored by u.s. states. a recent survey found that two-thirds of americans don't even know what it is. so states and businesses are trying to get the word out. several hospitals across the nation are giving newborns $529 toward college savings today. some states are matching donations. others are giving people a chance to win thousands of dollars. >> the washington monument is now opened again after it closed for almost two days because of an electrical problem. the national park service says the elevator to the top of the monument wasn't working. the problem started wednesday night but it took awhile before crews figured out what caused it. the monument reopened at noon. people on a japanese island are trying to escape the path of an erupting volcano right this very moment. the eruption was caught on

camera this morning just before 10:00 a.m. local time. hot gas and rock is flowing from the mountain top to the island shore. the municipal government has asked all 137 people living on that island to leave. >> just incredible to see that. well, it was team spirit in the best sense of the word today at northeast high school in philadelphia. soccer players from special olympics escorted by philadelphia police carried the torch to signal the start of the unionized soccer championship. the athletes for an afternoon of competition. this is the third year this very special game has taken place. >> fantastic. time now for a check of the accuweather forecast going into the weekend. >> yeah, beautiful day to get outside for a soccer game or anything else. adam joseph standing by with details on the rest of the day and the weekend. hello, sirly. >> a lot better than the last two days when we had that oppressive humidity, we had the heat, we had storms. today all is quiet and that humidity has dropped quite a bit. as we take a live look on our

center city sky six camera lots of sunshine to round out the work and the school week. right now it's in the mid 80's for anywhere from wilmington, philadelphia to trenton. all points to the north and west but that sea breeze again going to work this afternoon only in the mid 60's from cape may right up to almost long beach islands and even dover with that wind coming off of the bay, it is 75 degrees presentspresently. all the storms have been pushed down to the south. the front slipped in overnight settling west of washington. it will remain there over the next 12 hours and then it continues to journey back to the north and east. that's going to flood in the humidity again saturday into sunday and eventually we'll be tracking a cold front where you can see unsettled weather through northern texas, saint louis cutting across the middle part of the great lakes. that will be sliding in here late in the weekend and early next week. tonight it's very mild, patchy clouds but overall it's going to be fairly comfortable. 63 allentown, 64 in trenton.

dover coming in at 66 degrees. a lot of folks in dover this weekend with nascar in town and future tracker showing if you're down in dover sunshine tomorrow morning. it is good tomorrow. you can see a mixture of sun and clouds pretty much area wide. as we get into the afternoon if there are any pop-ups late in the day it is farther to the north up in the poconos so if you're heading up into the mountains just be prepared for that probably in the afternoon. the remainder of us at the shore looking pretty good. weekend kickoff for saturday in the city, warm and more humid at 88 degrees. it is bright, it is breezy at the shore. 74 degrees. but in the poconos there could be that spotty afternoon thunderstorm or downpour with a temperature at 78 degrees. future tracker then on sunday that front starts to close in, so it's very late in the afternoon and evening that storms could fire up especially north and west of philadelphia and then start to migrate to the south and east. at the shore on sunday right now looks like most of the day could be fairly sunny hazy and

warm and any of the storms on sunday could be strong, if not even severe as they pass through. your four day at 4:00 is breezy more humid 88 degrees. tomorrow watch for those strong afternoon and evening thunderstorms arriving from the north. sunday 88 degrees and then on monday, the front stalls, low pressure tries to develop along it. so we could see periods of rain here on monday with temperatures around 70 and the front could linger early on tuesday with a few more showers of 70 degrees. so, it's nice to see a few days with a little rain in there and overall the chunk of the weekend is looking pretty dry right now guys. it's a win-win situation here. >> you took the words out of my mouth. >> seven day in the next half hour. >> thanks adam. >> okay. >> feeding the hungry for three decades. today the food bank of south jersey commemorated its anniversary with hundreds of people who made those meals possible. it's our area's largest emergency food provider and today they saluted 13 of the founding pantries that have helped them feed and serve those in needs since they

>> ♪♪ >> the man who went on a deadly shooting spree during a municipal meeting in the poconos will spend the rest of his life in jail. rock knee newell has pleaded guilty to killing three people and injuring two others in ross township monroe county. he was angry after he was forced off his debris covered property so he shot his way into the meeting. that was back in august of

2013. after newell entered his plea a judge sentenced him to three life terms plus between 61 and 122 years in prison. >> philadelphia police are looking for the man who was caught on camera stealing a car in point breeze. it happened on memorial day on the 1900 block of anan street. at first the man was checking cars to see if any were unlocked. once he got inside one of them he took what he could and put it in a bag. when he got in a seconds car you know it, he started driving away. police are asking anyone with any information to please call them. >> still ahead a couple married for seven decades pretty impressive, they get the surprise of their lives. you won't believe some of the people who congratulated them. >> and camp fires and s'mores go together like chocolate and marsh mal lows. that's why a new suggestion from the government has so many people upset today. what the usda wants to us swap out to make the iconic summer

proposal that lit up the internet. a man not only pops the couple on their big day he did it in front of their wedding table. turns out that bridal blow was not quite as bad as it looks. we'll explain in big talkers. >> criminally good ribs. a food fight over the last piece of meat ended with one woman in hospital, the other in prison. the back story to this backyard barbecue showdown. >> but we begin with the latest on what was another night of bullets and bloodshed in the city of chester. a gunman opened fire on the 2700 block of west third street just after 11:00 p.m. when it was over, four males ranging in age from 14 to 47 had been shot. one fatally. and the killer was nowhere to be found. even more alarming, police say murders like this aren't becoming more common, they're becoming a sick source of pride for some. "action news" reporter vernon odom is live in chester to explain this very disturbing story.

vernon. >> reporter: this kind of violence is all too frequent here in the city of chester. police sources tell me today there were at least two gunmen firing away wildly last night killing one. chester detectives scour the 2700 block of west third today in the wake of last night's night of gunfire. police say they released 30 shots from a high powered handgun and assault rifle. the targets at least one of the males sitting on this stoop ranging in age from 14 to 47. one man aged 21 police believe was the primary target. he was pronounced dead at the scene. his name is being withheld but police say he was a reputed drug lord well known to them. the other three will survive the attack. >> as it appears it might have been some innocent bystanders caught up in the melee. >> reporter: this was chester seventh homicide of the year. all drug underworld related police sources tell me. a life long resident of chester's west end says this kind of dodge city violence is

nothing new in this small town with so many mean streets. >> the younger generation don't have any respect for themselves, their parents or the elderly folks and all this crime is connected. >> reporter: police say there were lots of witnesses to the shooting last night as they search for surveillance video. >> some have talked to us and some have chosen to remain silent. >> reporter: a new trend emerging police say assassins putting pictures of their kills on t-shirts then proudly posting a picture of themselves on facebook wearing the t-shirt but never saying i did it. tonight chester police say they can use any help they can get from the public to solve this latest murder case. live at police headquarters in chester, vernon odom, channel6 "action news." >> all right, vernon, thanks very much. philadelphia police have released surveillance video now of a brazen daylight shooting that critically injured a man earlier this week.

cameras captured that suspect firing a gun along the 500 block of east cambria street in kensington wednesday evening. three of those bullets hit a 29-year-old man in the back and the stomach. he was rushed to temple hospital where he remains in critical condition. police say the gunman who should be considered armed and dangerous is known to frequent the area where that shooting happened. officers are also searching for two men who went on a city wide crime spree for more than two months now. the pair was captured on surveillance tape robbing a citgo station on susquehanna street on march fifth. but investigators say this is just the very tip of the iceberg. the pair has hit a 7-eleven, pizza shops bars, restaurants, a steak shop, even robbed people on the street. at least 14 robberies in all. if you have any information on who these men are you are asked to call police. >> police in delaware say an attentive coworker helped them track down a man who allegedly groped a woman in a park.

a tip from that colleague led newark officers to carlos morciega today. they say the 39-year-old grabbed his victim as she ran past him in rittenhouse park last tuesday. police say morciega then held the woman from behind but she was able to break free. morciega has been charged with offensive touching. a two car accident cents an suv into a wall right outside the channel six studios today. it happened on monument road in wynnefield heights just before 1:00 this afternoon. after hearing the impact several 6abc employees rushed outside to see if they could help. they offered those involved water and tried to comfort them until philadelphia police arrived. fortunately nobody was hurt. this accident is still under investigation. i was sitting at my desk thirty niney this afternoon and this suv -- >> saw that happen right below where your desk is. >> absolutely. you think it's coming out of the target there or something. >> everybody ended up well there. all right adam onto the weekend forecast.

>> looking pretty good. it could be another warm humid one as we take a look at the temperatures right now. 86 in philadelphia. temporary break from the real humid air but that will rush back in as you can see really no cooldown all the way back to cincinnati and saint louis in the lower 80's. so may up to this point looks like we're likely going to go down as the second warmest in philadelphia's history with temperatures running close to 6 degrees above normal and it's extremely dry as well. we only had really a drop in the bucket this month, only 1.19-inches, we're over 2-inches below normal for the month and as you can see much of our viewing area, the after delaware valley right now, it is... art of the delaware valley right now it is dry. moderate drought right now. all of us need a good drink of water. on the weekend we will. we'll talk about the storms coming in late in weekend forecast. >> adam thanks very much. we've been handed breaking news. chopper six live over the intersection of 62nd and

reedland southwest philadelphia. you see the crime tape. here's why. a woman is in very critical condition after being shot here in southwest philadelphia apparently happened about 20 minutes ago right near this intersection. details very preliminary right now but the woman is thought to be about 50 years old was rushed to penn presbyterian hospital. at this time no arrests, no word on a motive for the shooting. we don't know what precipitated this, led up to it. it's also not clear at this point if the woman is the only victim but our cameraman on the scene also reported hearing gun shots after he arrived there so very much an active scene in southwest philadelphia. we'll follow this one up as the news continues and we get more details on this tonight. >> to other news this afternoon, it was science day at signal hill elementary school in voorhees, new jersey. and our own health reporter ali gorman was a featured guest. she talked to third graders about her career as a nurse and also as a reporter. she also spoke about healthy eating and exercise and the kids did an experiment to show

from doyle elementary performed their spring concert. the band took current hits like we are young by fun and transformed them into an instrumental matter piece. more than 100 fifth and sixth grade students took part today. >> it's a birthday very few people will ever see and today one very lovely lady from camden blew out 103 candles. this is anna vespe and she was born on this day in 1912. she survived the great depression worked as a seam stress and in a cigar factory. three years into being a centenarian she credits her long life to her family and religion. her motto is you got to keep moving and look on the bright side. the mayor declared today anna vespe day. she still makes chicken parm for other residents at cadbury senior service where is she lives. listen anna, save us a few

barbecue ended with one woman stabbing another with a fork. sabrina davis told officers she was upset with the victim for taking that last piece of meat. davis allegedly confronted her in the kitchen and a scuffle broke out. police say that's when davis used the fork in her hand to dab the woman in the eye. fortunately that victim was not seriously hurt. davis is facing a number of charges including assault with a deadly weapon. an eight-year-old ohio girl managed to fight off an attempted kidnapper using her parents' advice. erica miller was riding home from school in columbus yesterday when a masked man stopped his car and offered her candy. the man then jumped out of the car and grabbed her wrists but the second grader remembered what her parents told her to do if a stranger ever gets too close for comfort. >> starting to bite him. >> well, that worked. the man fled once erica freed her arm and has not been seen

involving multiple vehicles on 95 southbound at 420. we had all lanes blocked. now we're trying to get only one and a half lanes blocked right now. you can see the far right lanes getting by here and they're still trying to clear that up and eventually hopefully move it off to the side. we have definitely a big delay there, about 45 minutes to go from the vine to the blue route. taking a look at the big picture you can see speeds in the region in the teens schuylkill expressway very slow going about 45 minutes to do the commute from the blue route down to the vine right now and taking a look at the blue route, you can see 15 miles per hour there very slow going there as well. let's take a look at new jersey, a lot of people wanting to head down to the shore. don't be fooled by this shot at creek road on the 42 freeway. we're slow going everybody making their way down for a beautiful weekend. and we do have an accident to report on new jersey 295 southbound past 561. over to the vine street expressway, this is one of our bigger delays. you can see it looks like a still shot here in those westbound lanes if you're heading up to the schuylkill

>> all right, it is friday afternoon there yeah. >> meteorologist adam joseph celebrating with us in the studio. fantastic day today. >> pretty niles. humidity dropped just a little bit. over the weekend the humidity is going to come back and most of the weekends is dry so that's a good thing. as we take a look right now the action cam was out earlier in center city, rittenhouse square and grass still looking pretty green there. along with the trees. but many of our neighborhoods are looking rather brown. we need some rain and we'll finally get some kind of opportunity by the end of the weekend.

as we look at double scan live radar, all is quiet right now. the delaware valley, the lehigh valley, up into the mountains. there are some storms popping but they're over maryland and parts of virginia and they'll remain to our south and west tonight. temperatures from philadelphia to the north and west are very mild, in the upper 80's, a good 10 degrees above average. little cool intermillville, 84 degrees with that wind continuing out of an easterly direction so we're only in the 60's again at the shore with the ocean at 56. dropping the temperature in dover as well to 75 degrees. as we take a wide look across the lower 48, we just have some scattered storms to our south. but out into the nation's heartland another storm cutting its way from texas right into chicago. that's been the main weather pattern and track over the last month month and a half and this front will slowly painfully slowly move in our direction by sunday and monday. so, for tonight, partly cloudy out there. it stays mild with temperatures between about 63

and 67 degrees. that front is still way to the north and west tomorrow so it's warm, it's more humid 88 degrees. there could be a scattered pop-up storm in the poconos tomorrow afternoon and evening and then on sunday as the front slowly inches in from the north and low pressure starts to develop along the front, we'll see sun and clouds most of the day on sunday but in the afternoon and evening from the northwest to the south and east, there could be some gusty afternoon downpours and thunderstorms and some of those storms could be strong, if not severe as that front closes in. so, down in dover big weekend with nascar. tomorrow 85 degrees, sunny and muggy and then for the sprint cup series here on sunday, 85 degrees warm. it looks like those storms should hold up since dover is so far south and the front is coming in from the north and west like the shore those storms should hold off until late in the afternoon f-not during the evening hours. fix your ocean temperature so still very cold this weekend. 74 bright breezy tomorrow and

program. with jamie jaime apody meteorologist cecily tai tine, rick williams and monica malpass. >> friday night the big story on "action news" is developing right now. police say they are close to arresting a person of interest in the sexual assault of a woman in her south philadelphia home. now, that assault and burglary happened monday on south rosewood street and the suspect has been on the run ever since. >> "action news" reporter chad pradelli has been covering this story all week. he's live outside of the special victims unit with the very latest tonight. chad. >> reporter: rick, sources tell me the person of interest in these attacks raheem felder has reached out to an attorney and is working on the details to orchestrate his surrender. that said u.s. marshals and philadelphia police continue to search for him. philadelphia police say raheem felder is a person of interest in the home invasion and sexual assault that left a sense of unease in the south

philadelphia points breeze neighborhoods. u.s. marshals now have an arrest warrant for a parole violation. felder served 12 years behind bars for attempted murder. his mother has been pleading for her son to turn himself in to authorities. >> i need you to come home, son. turn yourself in. get this over with. >> reporter: felder was identified as a person of interafter police released surveillance video and more importantly these still images images. tips poured in and police quickly identified felder. authorities raided his home on the 1300 block of chadwick yesterday. sources say they found gloves, sneakers and clothing that appeared to match those worn in one or both of the attacks. police want to question him in connection with the rape of a woman monday morning on the 1800 block of rosewood. and attempting to sexually assault a woman on the 1700 block of chadwick in late march. and again police know who they're looking for.
