good morning, america. breaking news. crews racing to rescue hundreds on a capsized cruise ship. more than 450 people on board after the ship was slammed by a cyclone. teams tapping the bottom of the boat with hammers, listening for survivors. the very latest right now. breaking overnight. security breakdown. the head of the tsa forced out after that alarming report on airport security first reported by abc. the new changes coming to make the skies safer. insider who was by her side all this time. and the high school graduating class that brought the funk. and brought the house down. ♪ dancing their way to their diplomas. was this the best graduation ceremony ever? we do say good morning, america, on this tuesday morning. we can't wait to meet those incredible kids in just a moment. but, what everybody is talking about, caitlyn jenner and those photographs in vanity fair 1 million twitter followers in four hours and this morning closing in on 2 million. >> you can't take your eyes off those pictures. but first, we have to get to this breaking news dramatic images of a passenger cruise ship capsized. it was hit by strong winds and

heavy rains byfrom a sighcyclone. the captain of the ship has been arrested. >> reporter: incredible scenes on the yangtze river. this look at them tapping on the hull of the overturned ferry they can still hear people yelling for help from inside. so far, 14 survivors, some pulled from the water, some escaping themselves including the captain, but hundreds are still missing. it happened just about 9:30 p.m. monday in china, that's almost 18 hours ago. a pleasure cruise mostly senior citizens then torrential rains and fierce winds sank the boat quickly. now divers are on the site. the boat has drifted two miles in the strong currents and there's still air pockets inside. desperate relatives are furious. i'm angry, this man says we have no idea whether our relatives are dead or alive.

he rushed to the scene, the whole nation riveted by this disaster. reminiscent of last year's ferry disaster in south korea, more than 300 killed many young students when that boat capsized. that captain there has been sentence to life in prison. the captain arrested. reportedly telling investigators his boat was hit by a fierce sudden storm and sunk within minutes. >> terry, thank you now to the fallout from that alarming report about security at u.s. airports revealing how easy it can be to get weapons on a plane. first reported here on "good morning america." the acting head of 2 tsa was forced out overnight. big changes to screenings have been ordered. abc's david kerley is at reagan national with the latest. >> reporter: good morning, robin. the shuffle of management was quick after abc news learned that testers were able to

smuggle prohibitive items through security on 67 of 70 attempts. the catalyst for the dramatic shakeup came right here at security check points. tsa screeners missed 95% of the dummy bombs and weapons which they tried to smuggle through the system. the man who runs homeland security so diss pleased after the classified report he's demoting the head of the security agency. the acting director moved out, replaced by his deputy mark hatfield and that's not all the homeland secretary has ordered immediate action. more ran dan testing of security check points and more equipment checks of the scanners and machines they use to make sure they're calibrated. the man who ran the tsa until

capital, the capitol nearly struck by lightning. winds gusting up to 60 miles per hour taking out degrees. one crashing into this d.c. city bus with people inside. >> thank god nobody was hurt. >> reporter: at the nationals/blue jays game crews scrambling to cover the field, postponing the game until later today. in pennsylvania visibility so poor. >> i did pull over briefly so i could get myself together. >> reporter: people running for cover in delaware and in new jersey check out this guy's new ride. >> trying to figure out another way of transportation to get home. >> now this will come to an end. still flash flood watches from new york city up to providence and boston. we'll keep those for most of the day, then drop them out. only a half-inch of rain. heaviest will fall along the low pressure system. from south carolina up through

central north carolina and southern virginia. severe weather on tap for parts of northern plains. >> ginger thank you. now to a deadly lion attack an american tourist killed overseas attacked by a lion in a wildlife park and abc's hamish macdonald is in south africa with all of details. >> reporter: this investigation is stepping up right now. the u.s. embassy here is assisting with that. the big question is why, this woman had this window down when there are so many warnings inside the park to keep the car's windows closed. this morning, park rangers investigating how a trip to a safari park became deadly. a tourist taking a photograph from inside the car. >> the lion lunged at the car. >> reporter: park officials just before 2:30 the tourist was being driven through the lion portion of the safari.

responsible for this attack but will move her to an enclosure away from the public. the tourists already back here this morning. they're mingling with the animals. rest assured right now, they'll be taking special notice of those signs inside the park telling them to keep those car's windows shut. now to an american hostage freed this morning after secret talks with rebels in yemen. three other americans still being held. and abc's martha raddatz is in washington with the latest. >> reporter: nothing but relief for the family of the 33-year-old freelance journalist casey coombs told his mother in a brief conversation after his release, he suffered a back injury but the associated press said that he was not badly treated. he had been trying to get out of yemen as part of the ongoing evacuations there. he made it to the airport but was take on the houthi rebels

who now control that country. several other americans as you said who worked in yemen for private industry are still being held. and the state department is trying to get them free. george. >> okay martha thanks very much. now to secretary of state john kerry back on u.s. soil this morning after breaking his leg overseas. kerry was flown back overnight on a military plane and will undergo surgery this morning. abc's jon karl is at the white house with the latest. good morning, jon. >> reporter: good morning, robin. this is a serious injury and it comes just as kerry was in the midst of intention negotiations over iran's nuclear program and the battle over isis. state department officials say he's continuing to work the phones from his bedside. talking to the spanish foreign minister yesterday and other european leaders this morning. he's promising a rapid recovery. but robin, an injury like this could keep him from traveling for weeks. >> he's making the calls, not

>> look at the mess, matt, on the schuylkill expressway. this is the schuylkill at passyunk westbound traffic headed towards the vine jamming approaching passyunk past south street where we had an accident that has been moved off the shoulder eastbound. westbound they had police activity and fire activity and that's why we have extra heavy traffic westbound and eastbound jammed from city avenue to approaching south street. lots of accidents out there. in fact two on 295 southbound that were both blocking lanes for awhile, one at 168 and one approaching 42. bad spots for accidents. you're traveling eight 10 miles an hour at best. you're jammed from route 70 to approaching route 42. it's wet out there visibility is down and we have problems with flooding still in south jersey and in chesilhurst white horse pike approaching hendricks the right lane blocked there matt. >> taking a live look at center city philadelphia, cloudy. dave murphy with the accuweather forecast. >> light sprinkle or terrace. storm tracker six live double scan shows most of the area is dry. most places where you don't have the green which is that

remember winning the decathlon the hero of america and literally on march 15th, he went in for ten hours of plastic surgery, that was the end of bruce as we know it. now she's caitlyn she was excited. but scared. this is the point of no return. you can't take back the plastic surgery, so he said and it's in the story, in vanity fair what if i made a mistake? she had a panic attack. >> after the surgery? >> the day after. >> describe it. >> she was in a lot of pain trying to get some sleep, then woke up in a terror. >> how did she stop having the panic attacks? >> she met with a counselor the counselor said it's normal it's normal because of the pain medication. everybody is going to have some temporary self-doubt.

she said i'm free. after 65 years, i'm free. when i saw her, completely isolated completely alone, it was almost painful to be with him. there was an awkwardness to him, all his life basically. think about it. he's bruce jenner. i mean he was the bomb. you know i hated him because he was so attractive. he was the essence of -- and living this secret this is not who i am. you know people said you shouldn't come out in the 1980s. you try it. if he came out in the 1980s he would have been vilified. he would have no work, nothing. he really had to wait. >> you have been in this business for a long time. pulitzer-prize winner. you said this is by far the most

look at this underwater surveillance video, there on the left a 13-year-old boy, in a slow-motion struggle to stay conscious. now slowly sinking to the floor just as help comes in the nick of time. this experienced 18-year-old sinning to the bottom in mere seconds before being rescued. you're seeing shallow water blackout essentially fainting after holding their breath under water for too long. a lack of oxygen to the brain causing the swimmer to pass out and if not rescued in time even drown. how long is too long to hold your breath under water. >> we usually say 30 seconds is about the limit. we don't people holding their breath for more than a minute. because a child can drawn within 90 seconds. >> reporter: they can be hard to track, but at least 7 have been documented across the country. often they can happen in the least expected place. >> most of these accidents occur
