to flee a loaded gun and a 3-year-old child. it is wednesday night, and the big story on "action news" tonight is breaking news from upper darby where police are desperately trying to track down a suspect. "action news" reporter chad pradelli is live at college avenue and westchester pike. what's the latest there? >> jim, the search for that driver continues at this hour. here's what police are telling us happened. around 7:00 tonight, philadelphia highway patrol tried to pull over a chevy impala at 67th and locust. and the driver stopped momentarily and then took off. and a chase ensued. and coming down college avenue at westchester pike. and double piked, he got out and ran into the golf course and was gone. the search continued. he left behind a loaded hand gun in the front and a 3-year-old boy in back. the boy is ok but it could have been a tragic situation.

>> the 3-year-old kid doesn't have good motor skills we are fortunate the kill doesn't pill it up it is not holstered. and it was reckless. and they may have relatives in the area. >> and police tell me that the owner of the chevy impala is the girlfriend of the driver. she is the mother of that boy. she was here on-scene. sources tell me she was not cooperative initially. she is now. she was taken to the upper darby police where she is being questioned. and the detectives right now are trying to orchestrate the surrender of the driver. again the boy is ok. upper darby, chad pradelli channel 6 "action news." >> thank you, chad. and also following breaking news tonight in the city of chester delaware county officials investigating the death of a robbery suspect. officials are telling "action news" that the man in his late teens was fleeing from police on a bicycle when he collided with

a patrol car. the incident happened at 8:30 at 13th and keystone and the suspect taken to crozer medical center and he later died. the probe continues into this morning's deadly crash in the poconos. two tractor-trailers collided on i-80 and tobyhanna and one truck crossed in median slamming head-on into a tour bus. the driver of the bus and two passengers were killed. the bus carrying mostly italian tourists to niagara falls. 380 open in both directions. and texas, a highway crash claimed two lives at 12:30 on interstate 10 80 files -- miles west of houston. and killed were the bus driver and a passenger. and the search for an armed bank robber in plymouth meeting.

and the bank of america on plymouth road and the police say this bandit is no stranger to thievery. >> that is right. the guy they are looking for is now called a serial bank robber. the level of violence is escalating, which has them concerned. if you know him, the authorities are pretty sure you will recognize him from surveillance pictures. he walked into the bank and brandished a small black semiautomatic pistol and a note demanding cash. >> as he left the bank he turned around and fired a round back in the direction of the teller windows. thankfully nobody was struck or physically injured in the robbery. >> the bandit fled on foot east with an undetermined amount of cash. why he fired towards the tellers they don't know. >> it was a frightening situation for me. to have a weapon pointed at you and fired in your direction. >> believing he is the same man

bomb threat called in at 7:30. fortunately nothing was found. the incident was cleared an hour later. a woman from man chester, ocean county under arrest for phoning in a bomb threat to the ocean county mall saturday night. toms river police say they traced the phone number to a 24 year old who is charged with making terroric threats and in game in lieu of bail. and another bomb threat may 27th shutdown the mall for hours and an arrest has not been made in that case. 25 year-old rafael jones sentenced to life behind bars. the sentence was handed down today by a common pleas court judge. jones shot and killed off-duty police officer moses walker, jr. in august of 2012. walker's mother said today i'm happy jones won't be on the streets harming anybody else. so in a sense, i believe justice was done.

police arrested two former employees of are a dental office in the logan section of philadelphia. the two men allegedly caused a disturbance this afternoon inside all care dental on the 5700 block of north broad street. the police say the suspect then stabbed a security guard. the victim is in stable condition tonight. both suspects are in custody. kennedy university health security officers put their skills to the test tonight. the hospital in stratford, new jersey stranged an emergency simulation. officers practiced how they would react if an armed intruder came into the hospital. stratford's police and fire departments and summerdale's police department took part in the simulation tonight. upper darby police say a driver who just left a court hearing for a careless driving violation crashed minutes later. surveillance video captured the scene. the yellow car veers off and slams into a store on

westchester pike. the vehicle just missed a man hitting on a bench in front of the building. the police called him the luckiest man alive. a tree service worker recovering tonight after an accident on the penn charter school campus in east falls in philadelphia. the man was removing an oak tree this morning when the crane toppled over. suffering non-life-threatening injuries. philadelphia police and osha investigating. the first of simple memorials for beau biden. the former attorney general. his body will state in honor at legislative hall at dover from 1:00 to 5:00. and then at the church in wilmington, that is the site of the viewings on friday and funeral mass on saturday. the secret service was at the church today reviewing security. the late firefighter, lieutenant joyce craig honored by her high school. in this fact that happened

executive commission held its annual making a difference awards dinner. the dinner honors those who dedicate their lives to helping overs battle addiction. this is the 18th year in event has taken place. dozens of people showed up to the free library of philadelphia tonight to learn about african cuisine, taking part in a cooking demonstration and tasting menu. the organizers say the classes can promote healthy eating habits and help prevent heart disease diabetes and obesity. hundreds of people hit the beach for an important cause. volunteers taking part in the sixth annual barnegat bay blitz. and cleaned up miles of wetlands, beaches and stream banks. the studies show that the barnegat bay running along the coast for over 40 miles has been dying for decades. and today's clean-up is part of a long-term plan to bring the area back to health. let's get the latest word from accuweather and cecily

category four hurricane. and you can see it is tightly wound. it will likely increase to 155-mile-an-hour winds over the weekend. and then sunday night it's expected to hit near cabo san lucas and weakening before landfall. and something you watch if you are planning on a trip to the baja peninsula over the weekend. and the seven-day forecast another cool day with a lot of clouds, occasional showers mainly south of philadelphia. i don't think most of us will need our umbrella tomorrow. 66 degrees the high. you will likely want a jacket. and friday lingering clouds and a couple of glimpses of sunshine. a little improvement high of 73 degrees. and saturday big changes. any morning clouds quickly giving way to sunshine. great for the union game. sunday, mostly sunny and a few fair-weather clouds not as warm. but still a nice day. 78 degrees.
