and hello to you all on this friday morning, thank you for spending time with us. i'm t.j. holmes. >> and i'm kayna whitworth in for reena ninan. we begin with wild weather across colorado. >> that is a huge tornado. i can honestly say -- >> we're talking as many as seven twisters have touched down since yesterday afternoon. this massive one on the ground for two minutes near denver. one storm chaser get something close, look what happened. the truck was damaged. glass blown right off. heavy rain pelting hail continued until the early morning hours. >> the powerful winds damaged dozens of homes. crushed cars. tore apart homes. many people forced to spend the night without power. >> flood warnings up around kansas city where water was taken off many of the roadways making travel ding rouse. even as a big truck was swept away.

the driver making it out just in time. we turn to justin povick for more. >> thank you and good morning. high pressure building in in the upper midwest and north plains. northern kansas nebraska back into colorado and wyoming. it's from casper to denver that we have been dodging the severe thunderstorms in the past two days. make it three. we'll likely have another round later on in afternoon. that will enhance the flood potential later on this weekend from omaha to kansas city. t.j. and kayna, back to you. the other major story this morning. a security breach affecting millions of federal workers. >> their personal information, including social security numbers, may now be in the hands of chinese hackers. we're talking about major breach here. >> reporter: absolutely. good morning, t.j. good morning, kayna. the largest breach of federal employee data so far. millions being warned to watch their credit closely.

the intent of the cyber attack is still unclear this morning. the hackers have access to the sensitive personal information of up to 4 million current and past government employees. it could be used for financial fraud or worse, espionage. the massive breach discovered in april by security experts at the government cybercommand center. the office of personnel management was targeted. it's the only latest cyberattack by those working for foreign governments on america's government agencies and major corporations. >> these cyber threats are a challenge to our national security. >> reporter: earlier this year president obama convened a summit with the nation's top tech executives signing executive orders to set up hubs

where private companies and the government can work together. this morning, it's not known how long the hackers had access to the personnel file. it appears to be a second attempt. the same agency tarted by chinese hackers just one year ago. just last week we learned the irs was compromised. last fall state department and white house experts were attacked by hackers believed to be from russia. this time, the millions of government employees are being offered credit monitoring and identity theft insurance. t.j.? kayna? >> bazi kanani. thank you. we turn to the family of the man suspected of plotting attacks on police in boston. they're calling for a complete and transparent investigation into his death. it's believed the family has seen a video of this week's situation. where usaamah rahim was shot.

his attorney says there michael jackson. perceived a change in demeanor. >> the family is not making a claim about what happened tuesday. authorities believe rahim may have been radicalized through social media. a private jet forced to touch down with its nose gear broken. the plane skidded to a stop on the tarmac last night. it was doused with foam as a precaution. the five people on board were not injured. the jet was headed from new mexico to new jersey. no word on what caused that problem. new details on the guy who jumped the white house fence and made it inside. he has a secret stash of weapons. virginia police found weapons in his car in a traffic stop two

months earlier. prosecutors are recommending a 21-month sentence. james holmes did not suffer a psychotic break before the attack, that is among the conclusions of a doctor who interviewed holmes for 22 hours. the doctor testified that holmes had the capacity to plan and carry out the shootings and consider an escape route. the prosecution is trying to show that holmes was not insane when he killed 125 people inside the movie theater. and the man convicted in the death of washington intern chandra levy is getting a new trial. they say a key witness gave false or misleading testimony. the case became a national sensation when a romance with then congressman gary condit was revealed. he was ultimately ruled out as a suspect. a popular southern california beach remains closed this morning. the latest stretch of coastline

rescue in southern california. at least nine stranded hikers air-lifted from a mountainside you. the hikers were stuck on a cliff some 2,000 feet up. in a canyon near pasadena. not cheer how so many got stuck at once. an earthquake stranding climbers on a mountain in malaysia. a 6.0 magnitude quake shook loose rocks and boulders. at least one climber was killed. 00 others were trapped at the
