developing now on "action news," an off-duty police officer foils an armed robbery in a deadly exchange of gunfire. >> the two month search is over for the accomplices after the kidnapping and beating of a worker on jewelers row. >> good morning friday, june 5. let's take a look at weather and traffic. let's go outside to david murphy and matt pellman is filling in your karen rogers. >> reporter: it's another cool and cloudy start across the region. storm tracker 6 live double scan shows we have a sprinkles and showers around this morning. even where you don't see the green you'll see drizzle. every now and then something pops up, the roads are wet. satellite and radar showing you that there is that system to the south spilling showers up to the north, but they appear to be dieing off the board after probably the rush hour or mid morning and then we're actually looking at breaks in the clouds this afternoon with the return of sun.

57 degrees cool and cloudy now though in philadelphia. pretty much the same story from north to south tgif kids, the last friday of the school season for some of you anyway, some of you might have to go until next friday. this afternoon, sunny breaks and 74 is the forecast high. we're looking at low pollen counts with the shower activity we've had in the last couple of days. overnight -- over the weekend we're back up into the range but not as bad as the last couple of weeks. >> reporter: good morning, everybody, we're looking live at i-95 people rating -- racing into worked in center city. they are not racing very quickly on the southbound side from past academy to allegheny into girard. luckily our crash that got us off to a bad start southbound by girard is long gone.

at this point you're contending with southbound volume. in lawndale, contending with the police activity that katherine scott has been telling us about and it is blocking all busy rising sun avenue near tyson avenue. oxford or martins mill road will get you around it. getting word of a crash in upper merion montgomery county, south gulph road. 422, the same situation slowing starting to form on the eastbound side by phoenixville and collegeville, everything is reopened. delran, burlington county, downed pole 130 southbound and njt northeast corridor line not running between trenton and metro park because of police activity on friday morning. >> developing right now an armed robbery attempt turned into a shootout at a philadelphia restaurant. the robbers discovered the guy

they ambushed was an off-duty police officer. katherine scott is live on the scene in the city's lawndale section. >> reporter: matt, that's right, the detective was off duty he was the only customer inside the store when he ordered food the when the men walked in. the crime scene unit serves, remained on the scene gathering evidence. there is surveillance footage of the entire incident there are cameras inside and outside the store. the road has opened to traffic. traffic getting through hear on rising sun avenue by tyson. the front window of the shop is shattered from the shootout that happened before 11:30. two men went into rising sun pizza, at least one of them had a gun. police say they put the gun to the detective's head and took $20 out of his hand and forced him to lie on the floor. two robbers turned and pointed the gun at the counter where the owner and employee were

standing. at that point, the detective identified himself and pulled you let oz -- pulled out his gun, the suspect fired two shots at pointblank range. the officer fired bark, they dropped the loaded gun in the store and ran out of the store. one collapsed in the parking lot and the other got away. >> they identified the body as the person who was inside the store committing the robbery and firing the shots. >> reporter: and back here live, you can see the investigators remain on the scene the crime scene unit inside gathering evidence they are dusting for fingerprints and gathering evidence inside the store. the detective was assigned to the northwest division he was taken to internal affairs to be interviewed which is protocol

whenever an officer fires his weapon. we're live in lawndale, katherine scott. >> two men face a judge after months on a run police say they brutally kidnapped a woman who work on jewelers row in center city. the two men are said to be accomplices to tieread gay who was taken into the custody after the attack. police kidnapped and beat the woman leaving her job. she was dump in the mount laurel cemetary in darby and was able to get help. mayor nutter will deliver the keynote address at a ceremony marking the deadly anniversary of the center city collapse. a demolition came crashing down on the salvation arm in 2013. the 6 people were killed, 14 others were injured. a memorial park is being built at the site to honor the

victims. new from the overnight u.s. says china is behind a hack attack. china calls the allegation -- the data compromised gathering information on various people. >> they gather information to target them it's a giant data base that they can tap into anytime. >> the verdicts discovered the attack -- investigators discovered the hack in april but didn't realize they had much more information until later. philadelphia. looks like it is korea -- yeah you see stuff to the south and heading toward northeast airport. in philadelphia, light stuff. trenton, seeing some of this. maybe drizzle here and there. looks like the morning showers will not be around all day tapering off over the next several hours. as we look outside we have clouds over the airport. some of the earlier showers popping through has made the surfaces a bit wet. you'll find that on roads and every now and then spray on the windshields and drizzles where it isn't showering. 57 degrees in philadelphia. similar to the temperatures we've been dealing with the last several mornings. cool and cloudy. most of the showers during the morning by the time we get up to lunchtime it's cloudy and mainly dry. watch what happens as we go through the rest of the day, it does look like the clouds will filter out by 6:00 a.m. and

before then we'll see the sun re-emerge in some neighborhoods. we'll see sunny breaks this afternoon and that will improve the temperatures better than yesterday. for the evening hours not bad temperature-wise, you'll see that in a moment. transitioning to partly cloudy skies. as we roll through the day we'll start out cool still in the 50s by 8:00 a.m. 11:00 a.m., 63 2:00 p.m., 72 spending the afternoon in the 70s with the poke of sunshine starting to come back. 74 is the high by 3:00 p.m. this afternoon. if you're heading to the phillies a nice friday evening for baseball. 71 for the first pitch. 9th inning, 67 a little bit milder at the ballpark than the last couple of month. the giants in town for a three game set. hopefully the phils are back organ the winning track. tomorrow, there could be a shower around or rumble of thunder in south jersey and delaware. high pressure returning sunshine to the region and nice high high of
