favorable for a potential tornado to develop. you don't have to take any action. that would be if a tornado warning has been posted. as we go wider you can see what's going on. this is what's known as a prefunnel trough. it's ahead of a cold front. the actual cold front is across the midwest but this is a pretty potent line of storms and that if you look at its moving it is not racing to the easter. this system is moving slowly so it will gradually enter our viewing area as we head through the evening hours. future tracker showing by about 11 o'clock, this is when that line will be closing in on the i-95 corridor. once it moves into south jersey and delaware, it will be moving into much cooler air so it will evaporate but the actual front will be lingering into tomorrow morning so that means we could have some stormy weather right in time for your morning commute. so, this is going to be a long duration event. so what to expect tonight. the strongest storms in our far northwest suburbs. it will be slowly crossing our region with gusty winds heavy rain lightning, maybe even some hail and again that

threat of isolated tornadoes. this will be lingering into the morning as some front gets a little bit closer and part of the fuel to these storms, the heat and humidity, 84 degrees in philadelphia right now, it's very muggy,. once that front crosses through we will get a break in the humidity but not for long. i'll talk more about that coming up in the full accuweather forecast. rick. >> all right, cecily we'll check back in later. channel six abs abc weather. live storm tracker radar is there along with weather watches and warnings in your area. >> blew the whistle on a penn state fraternity's secret facebook page with photos of naked women and now the former student is suing the university. >> he says the university ignored his complaints about fraternity hazing and tonight penn state officials say those claims are not true. "action news" reporter chad pradelli is lie outside of the common pleas court in center city where the lawsuit was filed. chad. >> reporter: rick, the

former penn state student says he suffered emotional and physical scars from the alleged hazing. he said he called the university's hazing hotline but the university did nothing but penn state says that's simply not true. using props from cell phone screen grabs attorney tried to show a culture of booze drugs and hazing at penn state. in the lawsuit former penn state student claims he was burned with cigarettes, punched in the face and forced to drink urine while pledging at the kappa delta rho fraternity. >> i never intended to become a whistle-blower but when i saw what was going on and the abuse that myself and others were repeatedly experiencing and that the university was totally ignoring. >> reporter: some have called him a whistle-blower. he also uncovered a private facebook page of kdr members and alumni that allegedly showed male and female students naked and at least one woman sexually assaulted.

>> any parent, any student any human being would look at these images and be disgusted. >> reporter: he claims the university ignored his complaints of hazing in 2014 so he went to police in january but the university denies that claim. and released a statement that reads in part neither he nor his family were willing to file a complaint provide documentation speak with state college police or participate in pursuing a formal disciplinary process available to them despite repeated encouragement from university staff. kappa delta rho had no comment about today's lawsuit but last week the fraternity announced that 38 members had been expelled and penn state chapter had been shut dune for three years. i'm live in center city, chad pradelli, channel6 "action news." >> chad, thank you. this is 23-year-old zachary mcdonough as he turned himself in to police in pennsville, salem county, this afternoon. he has confessed and has been

charged any yesterday morning's hit and run accident but left -- that left a teenager hospitalized in critical condition. police say they found mcdonough's 2002 hyundai accent behind an apartment building with a cover on it. he had front end today. mcdonough admits he hit 17 year old kyle pszenny. >> jury collection in the cerebral cyber stalking trial against the wife and son of the man responsible for the delaware shooting. they are charged with conspiring to harass and intimidate christine belford prosecutors believe that led to thomas shooting and killing belford. the defendants could face life in prison if couldn't convicted.

officials say 43-year-old david pereira raped a 42-year-old woman back p on june 2nd he is facing several charges including second degree rape. anyone with information on where pereira might be is asked to call dover police. >> a former priest with the archdiocese of philadelphia pleads guilty today to child pornography charges. mark haynes was arrested last october accused of he canny exchanging lewd photos of children on instagram where police say he posed as a young girl. he recently served as vicar in westtown township. he is set to be sentenced in september. police in burlington city are trying an old method for a new way to combat crime. they're putting notices on the door steps of residents with the hopes of reaching even more people in the community. new jersey correspondent nora muchanic is live in one burlington city neighborhood with the full story. nora. >> reporter: hi, there sharrie. these days police use lots of

modern tools to help them fight crime but in burlington city they're going back to the basics. for instance, a note on the door like this to let you know they're looking for information about a crime in your neighborhood. burlington city patrolman mario ortiz is walking the london section of town introducing the police department's new new information notices they're door hangers that officers will leave behind to alert res are dents about a crime in their area and where to call if they've got information. >> we have to do that neighborhood canvas, a burglary a residential burglary where we really need that neighborhood on alert to look for any suspicious activity. >> it's a great idea because there's many -- some of my neighbors, yeah, they wouldn't know any other way. >> in a world of high tech communications and social media, a door tag might seem old school but police believe it will still be an effective way to alert residents when something is up. like many other departments burlington city police actively use facebook and twitter to alert the community to crime. >> but if you don't have social media we really need

to get back to traditional ways to make sure that the neighborhood is aware. >> it's the old fashioned way of community policing, foot patrol high presence. >> reporter: often when cops canvas a neighborhood residents are out at work or don't want to be seen talking to police. >> people are hesitant. they don't want to be labeled or anything but they do want to help. so, this gives them a little indiscreet way of contacting us to provide us with information. >> once you see something happening you really don't want to tell on your several then you can just call the number on here. that's a good idea. >> reporter: do you think it will work. >> i'm going to see. >> reporter: police are hoping with officers walking the streets and leaving door hangers behind, residents will be better informed and more willing to share information. now this is a new program. it won't be used in every case but it looks like it's a way to help police get more information when they're trying to crack a case. live in burlington city, i'm nora muchanic, channel6 "action news." back to you. >> all right nor remarks thank you.

an oil truck overturned in burlington county today spilling its load. chopper 6hd was above the scene of the 900 block of birch field in mount laurel. the truck landed upside down. another car was somehow involved in that accident. police are talking to the driver but say the two vehicles did not hit each other. clues cleaned up the oil. fortunately no one was hurt. in northeast philadelphia an accident involving a trash truck took out a pole and some wires here. happened at about 5:30 this morning on the 11,000 block of knight road. police used crime tape -- crime scene tape to mark offer the area for safety. no one was hurt in the crash. there were no power outages fortunately as a result of the mishap. >> time now for the "action news" traffic report. >> monday night let's go over to autumn marisa in the "action news" traffic center. hi. how was your weekend. >> hi, rick and sharrie. going pretty well out there. except we have incidents popping up on some of the side

roads right now. this one is in bucks county, route one southbound at the pennsylvania turnpike. you can see it's offer to the shoulder so not causing too much of a delay right now but we have police on the scene penndot there as well as an ambulance. so, we're keeping an eye on things. you can see speeds across the region, nice and slow, 16 miles per hour on the schuylkill expressway. 22 miles per hour on 95. that just picked up. we had an accident southbound at girard that just cleared. so i'm hoping to see that delay diminish just a bit right now. and a few incidents to tell you about in washington township. fries mill road between route 42 and 654, tuckahoe road is going to be your alternate around that. in abington township, edge hill road and woodland road another incident to report. going outside to the 42 freeway looking nice and clear in both directions. we'll keep an eye on things and bring you an update in the next half hour. back to you rick and sharrie. >> all right autumn thank you. much more still to come on "action news" at 5:00 tonight. a manhunt is in its third day in northern new york state for two prisoners who broke out of

>> did two violent convicted killers who escaped from a maximum security facility have help? investigators believe the two convicts did have some type of accomplice from the inside. abc news learned a woman who works at the prison was removed from her post is that being questioned. hundreds of private contractors who are working at the prison are also being questioned. meanwhile the manhunt continues for the 34-year-old david sweat and 48-year-old richard matt. police say they used power tools to drill their way out of clinton correctional facility. a $100,000 reward is being offered for information leading to their capture. oscar pistorius is expected to be released from a prison on august 21st and go under house arrest. that would be after serving just 10 months of his five year sentence for killing his girlfriend reeva steenkamp.

south africa's department of corrections said pistorius' good behavior in prison makes him eligible for early release. pistorius was convicted of culpable homicide for the 2013 deadly shooting in south africa culpable homicide means a person was killed unintentionally but unlawfully. >> schools in delaware are now required by law to be equipped at preventing suicide among youth. governor jack markell today signed house bill 90 into law. it mandates that all public school employees receive 90 minutes of training each year on suicide prevention. it also requires schools to establish prevention and response committees. these policies will also be included in the student and staff handbooks. >> all right, health check tonight. a new report is revealing that some hospitals are marking up their prices more than a thousand percent. and some of the top offenders are in our area. >> health reporter and registered nurse ali gorman joins us from the big board with the details. hi, ali. >> hi, guys. the report couples from johns

hopkin school of public health. they have the top 50 hospitals with highest markups. 49 of the hospitals are for profit, seven are in our area. there's chestnut hill hospital, hahnemann university hospital, crozer chester medical center, brandywine hospital phoenixville hospital pottstown memorial medical center and easton hospital. most patients don't pay the full price. government and private insurance companies negotiate the lower prices. but anyone uninsured or out of network can be charged the full amount and anyone receiving workers compensation or auto insurance benefits will also likely face the full price. some states regulate hospital rates but not all. so experts say there needs to be federal guidelines. now, a spokesperson gave us a statement from the delaware valley healthcare council. they represent these hospitals. they say that most patients have some sort of insurance so that this is not an issue and

anyone uninsured is rarely asked to pay full prices. hospitals in pennsylvania are also working to improve communications about prices. we have their full statement on 6abc.com. in other news, two doctors hit the road this week to drive home a message to men to take care of your health. the urologists are going across country to reach as many men as possible. they'll talk to them directly but also on twitter and other social media. live web casts and videos. the doctors say more than 80 percent of men remember the make and model of their first car but barely half can remember their last checkup. they say more men should treat their bodies like their cars. >> we want to get every single mile out of that car. your body is essentially like that. you need to get checked done per recommendation, per guidelines, everyone year, five year, 10 years whatever the guidelines are. >> 6,000-mile journey makes a

. >> ♪♪ >> dunkin' donuts could soon be delivering to your doorstep. the company's ceo says they are conducting a private test of a delivery service. dunkin' donuts says it is also developing mobile ordering but did not say when that would be available. the announcement comes as rival starbucks is testing an app-based delivery as much in the northwest. meantime mcdonald's and chipotle are experimenting with food delivery in new york. app spell officially official -- apple is jumping into the music streaming game. they announced a new service today at the opening of the company's annual worldwide developers conference in san francisco. it's called beats one. it combines internet radio with a streaming music service. >> summer vacation just around the corner, the city's free libraries wants to make sure

youngsters don't abandon the books. that was the idea behind events like this one which kicked off here in center city this morning it's called the summer of wonder reading program inspired by the classic tale of alice in wonderland. from arts and crafts projects, there will be plenty to do for the kids. officials and members of the business community even hosted a story book reading. a big announcement today for students hoping to further their education in new jersey. princeton businessman robert carr announce add donation of a million dollars that will fund scholarships for 50 high school students to go to rowan university. the money will help cover the cost of tuition and room and board. the program has already put more than 250 students through college in illinois. rowan is the first school in new jersey to take part in the program.

>> time for accuweather. at the big board meteorologist cecily tynan standing by way closer look at what we can expect this evening cecily weather-wise. >> rick and sharrie we have storms working into the far northwest corner our viewing area. double scan live showing most of our region is rain free. we have a line of strong storms working into berks county. the national weather service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for northwestern berks county until 6:15. the storm that's associated with that warning has a

history of hail as large as half dollar size and winds up to 70 miles per hour. and it's moving very slowly to the east at 15 miles per hour just the past 15 minutes we've had 72 lightning strikes. so hamburg eckville and windsor castle in the path. this is the leading edge of a storm that will be working in. tornado watch for lancaster county until 8 o'clock. berks, lehigh northampton county until 10 o'clock. a watch means that conditions are favorable that severe storms could develop, that could spin off an isolated tornado. you don't have to take shelter until a tornado warning is issued and no tornado warnings have been issued as of yet. right now though, it is warm and humid. this will really fuel the storms. philadelphia 84 degrees. allentown the same, 84. wilmington 84. dewpoints in the mid to upper 60's so it's very humid. you'll notice along the shore though a lot cooler with the winds off the ocean

temperature in the 60's so as the storms work east of the i-95 corridor they really will begin to break up but a wider view on live double scan showing this is the line of storms a heads of a cold front can and the actual cold front won't be moving through until tomorrow late in the day so that means we do have the risk of more storms the past 15 minutes we've had more than 200 lightning strikes orbited with that line. future tracker showing around 7 o'clock all the activity still north and west of philadelphia right around 11 o'clock is when that line will move into the i-95 corridor and then into the wee hours of the morning beginning to break up but a little bit more activity around 8 o'clock tomorrow morning so that could really have an impact on your morning commute. so, the five day at 5:00 showing tomorrow more showers and thunderstorms 86 degrees the high. a humid day. lined that front just as warm on wednesday, 86 but noticeably less humid but we're back in the muggies and the heat on thursday, 92 degrees, the same on friday with a risk of some pop-up

north jersey when a mob of music fans try to invade a concert at metlife stadium. but first, we are continuing to track approaching severe weather that has prompted tornado watches in several counties to our north side west. >> there's a threat of downpours and heavy thunderstorms. let's head rider over to meteorologist adam joseph live at the "action news" big board with the latest from storm tracker six double scan radar. >> sharrie and rick we're tracking these storms as they're approaching western suburbs of lancaster county as well as berks county. it's a nasty line that stretches from new york state right through central parts of pennsylvania east of state college and then right through west virginia. right now in this line over 200 lightning strikes in the last 15 minutes n factor we have severe thunderstorm warnings in effect for the northwestern corner of berks county anywhere in and around hamburg, this is until 6:15. the storm is slowly drifting in from the west and the storm has had a history of producing winds in excess of 70 miles an

hour and also hail the size of half dollars and you can see right now it is just to the north and east of bethel and 78 working towards hamburg. couple little kinks within this particular line of storms so we'll have to watch to see whether or not this does actually start twisting and turning butter right now you can see the hail mode just west of hamburg, about an inch to an inch and half in diameter so some pretty powerful hail heading right towards hamburg and if it holds together it will skirt i-78 to the north of kutztown, 83 lightning strikes with that particular part of the storm in the last 15 minutes. we have tornado watches in effect until 10 o'clock tonight for the poconos the lehigh valley and that extends down between reading and lancaster so any of these storms that pass in those far northwestern suburbs of philadelphia could also produce an isolated tornado. we'll track the storms on future tracker and let you know when they arrive into philadelphia and wilmington in that full accuweather forecast rick. >> adam we'll check back in later. counter on

"action news" viewer donny ramos he sent this video in to us to join the action. this is happening along the 1700 block of east state street. now, as you can see, in the bit of this, you can see the fire there and also the smoke coming from behind the tree. let's go to some live video that we have. chopper 6hd giving us a wider view. you can see two sets of plumes of smoke it appears dark black smoke as well as white and gray smoke and the flames still there also as we get a better look from chopper 6hd again, this is happening in hamilton township mercer county new jersey. as you can see it is a massive

effort under way as this fire now hitting four alarms. we are told at least eight homes are involved or are being affected by the flames there are happening there, the fire burning along the row homes there. firefighters doing their best to preventer from it spreading. it's not clear if i didn't 91 has been hurt. of course we'll keep an eye on it and check back with this if we get any updates. in other news the video of a suburban dallas texas police officer taking down a 15-year-old girl in her swimsuit has stirred up a firestorm online. it all started after someone reportd that a group of teens had crashed a neighborhood pool. the situation escalated quickly when all of a sudden an officers to antidepressant teen to the ground and then pulled out his gun and pointed it at the other teens. abc's john ehrlich man is live with the details. john. >> reporter: sharrie, this is a community in texas that is trying to deal with this incident but as you highlighted, captured on video for millions to see.

these are the actions that led to the suspension of police officer eric case bolt in mckinney texas. this video captures him using profanity and throwing a 15-year-old girl to the ground. onground. >> he told me to keep walking and then i kept walking. i guess he thought we were saying rude stuff to him. he grabs me and he like twisted my arms on the back of my back and he shoved me in the grass. he started pulling back of my braids. >> reporter: another young girl tatiana rose hosted the pool party with her sister and mother. she claims a woman picked a fight with her and the cops were called with officer casebolt going too far. >> he was just aggressive for no reason at all. it was horrible. >> reporter: despite the video evidence of the officer's actions one eyewitness had a different take on the events. >> i think he did what he thought he had to do to control the situation. >> reporter: dat head of a civil rights group called for

justice. >> we ask that officer casebolt be fired second, be charged. >> reporter: mckinney's police chief asked the community for patience. >> i am committed to a complete and thorough investigation. >> reporter: meanwhile that civil rights group we highlighted has organized a protest for this evening. it will take place at an elementary school in mckinney. in los angeles channel6 "action news. rick back to you in the studio. >> thank you for that report tonight. in charleston south carolina a former whiter police officer was indicted on murder charges today in the fatal shooting of an unarmed black man. cell phone video shows officer michael slager firing eight times at 50-year-old walter scott. scott was running away from him following a traffic stop and slager claims he feared for his life. he charged almost immediately. he was charged almost immediately after the video surfaced. well, today the solicitor general announced there was

enough evidence to move forward in the case. >> what our goal is is to assemble all of the evidence that we have that is admissible to get it to the jury and convince the jury as to why mr. slager has committed a crime and that's what we'll do. >> slayinger is currently being held in pro ticket tiff protective custody. world news tonight with david muir will have more on the murder indictment of that former charleston police officer as well as investigation into that texas pool party scuffle. you can watch tonight at 6:30 following "action news" at 6:00. a motorcyclist in critical condition following a collision in northeast philadelphia this afternoon. chopper 6hd was over the scene. this is academy road and holmes avenue. authorities say the motorcyclist and a car collided near the intersection. the rider was rushed to aria torresdale hospital for treatment. >> a driver is undergoing toxicology tests following the death of a 17-year-old high

school student. matos was riding his bike near seventh and cayuga streets in hunting park last night when he was hit by a car. witnesses told police the driver ran a stop sign just before the deadly collision. "action news" reporter vern odom is lie outside olney charter high school where matos was junior. vern. >> reporter: tonight no arrests at least so far in connection with that deadly auto mishap. that's because toxicology test results are still pending. that has been a paul over the high school today. one of their long time students was killed by a suspected drunk driver in hunting park last night. 17-year-old adeiry matos was on his way home around 7:00 when witnesses told police the driver of this white honda ran a stop sign at high speed near seventh and cayuga killing the popular young man who was just finishing up his 11th grade year here at olney high.

>> he got along with everybody. he made people laugh. it was just fun being around him. if you were sad he would know how to cheer you up. >> reporter: police say the 28-year-old driver of the car did not flee the scene. police have not arrested him pending the outcome of toxicology testing. the charter school brought in grief counselors today to help the students and faculty deal with the sudden death of. deiry mates to. >> when i walked into school dark everybody was crying, you know, grieving. teachers, too, also, not just the kids, the teachers, too. >> reporter: olney charter school officials today were going all out to try to prevent their students or their faculty from talking to reporters. again, no arrests yet for possible dui or homicide by vehicle. live in olney vernon odom, channel6 "action news." >> vern thank you. a chester county man already charged with robbing seven delaware banks is now being linked to five more holdups in pennsylvania. this is 44-year-old joseph mel

more of our area now under gun with this tornado watch. as we look at double scan live radar the storms are beginning to puncture into northern lancaster county, northwestern berks county and it still will be a few hours before it makes it as far south as philadelphia so we have plenty of time to watch these storms as they are very slowly moving from the east to the northeast at about speeds of 15 to 20 miles per hour. we do have a severe thunderstorm warning in effect until 6:15 for the northern parts of berks county including hamburg. again, these warnings are pretty long and lengthy in time because the storms are moving so slow. that's a good thing when you're tracking severe weather. into the good thing because they do release a lot of water in a short amount of time but the storm has just passed through hamburg where they had some decent size hail heading towards kutztown and to the north of fleetwood. 63 lightning strikes in 15 minutes. it will be nearly a been around six minutes to 6 o'clock and then crumbsville
