begin with breaking news, police in wilmington owe searching for an inmate that escaped this morning isiah thompson was on work detail on governor prince boulevard, and was serving time for an attempted carjacking and ran away toward stoney creek at 10:30 and was last seen wearing a prison uniform and a vest. he may have ditched the clothing and was wearing a dark t-shirt underneath. police are searching with k-9s aat this hour, we'll bring you updates on "action news" and at 6abc.com. investigators determined the cause of a fire that damaged 20 homes in new jersey the destructive blaze spread through an entire block of row homes on thursday. katherine scott has new details from the scene. >> we learned from the fire chief this morning that the fire was caused by a roofer's blow torch and the roofer spoke with

police and the fire marshal yesterday, some residents are able to return home and some in the hardest hit homes are able to go in with firefighters to retrieve some of their belongings. >> this is all i got. >> fran only has the clothes on her back after fire tore through the home. her husband's wedding ring is still in the home. >> have nothing left everything is gone. gone. >> the fire broke out at 3:45 on the 3700 block of east state street firefighters from as far as hunterdon county were brought in. they believe it was from roofers using a blow torch on the home. >> somehow the torch got to the

live from penn's landing, another warm and humid day with lots of clouds out there and david murphy has the latest from the accuweather big board. >> on the lookout for thunderstorms this noon, for the second straight day it looks like most of the action is in new york state a wave of low pressure that will spin to the north and a cold front will get closer to us this afternoon and from now until the early evening hours there is a chance of spotty activity beginning to pop up and we see some of this welling up no lightning out of this and a shower out of reading, one around fleetwood too oceanly in this humid air mass some of this stuff does well up into a heavy downpour and the one is reading is easing up a bit and this stuff to the north as well has the chance of developing into a thunderstorm later on it looks like most of that will head towards penn and

news now from delaware companionship, police are searching for a drivener yad. next this morning. >> it happened at a loading duck at this industrial complex, sources say that a truck driver was confronted by a gunman in an attempted robbery attempt and sources tell us that the driver was shot twice in the head and pronounced dead at the scene he had loaded his truck last evening and was getting a start for his trip to new york and another delivery driver passed at the scene from the shooting and saw the suspect reaching into a pocket and fearing he had a gun the other driver sped off. when he came back he saw the victim's legs on the ground next to his truck the victim still his wallet in his pocket. they say this is normally a safe

location, with minor crimes like vandalism it's busy day and night with trucks going back and forth, and the victim's boss says they are devastating by such a senseless loss and that their driverers don't carry any cash. we are withholding the name of the victim until we are sure his family has been notified. and they are apparently having a good description of the suspect, and they are issuing an artist sketch of the suspect and the other delivery driver got a good close look at him. >> david helpry channel 6 "action news." >> thank you for that report. police in colorado are under fire to pay for the destruction caused by a standoff there for 19 hours s.w.a.t. teams blasted through the walls of this home, trying to arrest suspected shoplifter roger seacalf, the

problem is he doesn't live there. the family got out unharmed and officers fired grenades and did $250,000 worth of damage to the home, the suspect was arrested but the house had to be condemned. insurance will only cover some of the repairs. >> basically we were left on the street and nobody claims responsibility for what they did. >> police are looking into how they can help the family and the chief defended his officers saying they did what they had to do. >> after spending the last decade on death row alfred brown was convicted of the murder of a houston police officer and the case was dismissed last november because brown's defense attorney never saw phone recorders that could have helped his case, brown walked out a free man. >> i have to bitterness.

meteorologist, david murphy, back now way closer look at the forecast. a return to summer and soggy weather? >> stormtracker 6 live double scan right now shows you that most of the area is dry and i want to take a closer look to the north and berks county heading up to the valley and there are a cluster of showers now it's losing that intensity. if are you in quakertown or northern montgomery county and perkasie be bucks county and areas close to macungie you are in for this for the next 20 minutes or so. that is a live look and what is it maybe a shower or thunderstorm activity before too much longer in the poconos. but this is it in berks county. as we look outside sky 6 hd down the shore the sun and clouds mix, warm and humid across the region with clouds and sun and especially up north we'll be on

the lookout for thunderstorms building over the next hour or two, 80 in philadelphia and the dew point well above the 60 degree threshold for air. and winds out of the southwest at 14 and like yesterday it's breezy out there allentown 78 and 78 in reading and almost there in trenton and wilmington and 80 in millville and dover. and a little bit cooler down the shore but even at the shore it will feel a little muggy. in terms of storms future tracker 6 right now is placing more action. there is a good chance between now and 6:00, a line of these popping through the farther north you go seeing strong storms be gusty winds and downpours, by the time we get to 6:00 it's not as aggressive of a storm patterns, things not only

hello again here are the story, we are following for you on "action news" at 12:30 breaking news in west philadelphia. police say a man in a taxi opened fire and sped off and now the search for a suspect is underway and a new reward in the attempt to find a newcastle county woman that disappeared a year ago. and flames ripped through an entire block of homes. >> we begin with the breaking news story out of of south philadelphia, that is where police are investigating a shooting that put several schools on lock down and happened at 10:45 a.m., the man exit aid taxi cab and shot his passenger in the torso and the man got into the same cab and drove off. any lockdowns at nearby schools have since been lifted it's still up clear what led up to the shooting and we'll continue
