>> ♪♪ >> "action news." delaware valley's leading news program. with matt o'donnell, tamala edwards, karen rogers and meteorologist, david murphy. >> ♪♪ >> hello everyone. it's 6:00 a.m. and chopper six has just arrived over our breaking news story in south jersey. the driver of this tractor-trailer was hurt in a rollover crash on 295. this big rig also spilled containers holding 80,000 pounds of apple juice it's all over the place now. this happened just before 5:00 a.m. in the northbound lanes in burlington township and this is greatly impacting traffic. hello, i'm matt o'donnell. erin o'hearn is filling in for tamala edwards. >> that's right. david and karen are standing by with weather and traffic. first let's get right to karen.

she'll help you navigate through this mess in new jersey, karen. >> and it is a mess erin. chopper six live on the scene. here's the overturned tractor-trailer. here are the 80,000 pounds of apple juice. can you see this on the roadway right there. that's because there's a fuel spill currently blocking all lanes at best you have the left shoulder squeezing by at times. but look at the backup that we have. this is on 295 northbound. traffic is at a complete stand still through such a busy area. burlington county, new jersey. the accident scene happened on 295 northbound right near 541 but look at the backup because it is growing minute by minute. we are currently jammed solid at this point from exit 45 until you get to 541. it is a huge delay on 295 northbound and you've got to watch this because you're not moving at this point. traffic had been completely stopped. then they were allowing some traffic to squeeze by. now it's completely stopped once again because of this accident involving an overturned tractor-trailer. debris all over the highway and that's going the take awhile to clean all this up. i want to go to the maps right

now and show you what you could do to get around this problem. accident itself at 541. that's exit number 47 but you're backed up from at least exit 45. you can take the new jersey turnpike which basically runs parallel to 295 or if you want to go further out of the way you can take route 130 to avoid the big delays and they're growing on 295 northbound in new jersey right now in burlington county. another new accident coming in this one northbound northeast extension just as you approach lansdale. we've got the right shoulder and part of the right lane blocked with a new accident coming in right now. otherwise, we're looking live on i-95 t the roads are clear and dry yet we're dealing with these accidents. here we are southbound heading towards center city. just some volume building between allegheny and girard but dave, the big story is that mess on 295. >> that's going to be a big delay for a lot of folks in new jersey this morning, karen. right now we've got sun up over the horizon and in some cases that will produce some sun glare as we go through the neck half hour hour. right now you see satellite showing you the lack of significant cloud cover. overall today we're looking at

mainly sunny skies, perhaps some fair weather cumulus developing during the afternoon. cool and comfortable this morning, 68 degrees in philadelphia. the humidity from the last couple of days is gone so definitely more comfortable. winds very light, 57 refreshing degrees in allentown, 62 in wilmington and 63 down the shore. on your storm tracker six app by 8 o'clock we're still around 68 but by noon, 82. and by 3 o'clock, it is going to be warm with a high of 87 degrees. but again, not as humid as the last couple of days. heat and humidity build back into the accuweather 7-day forecast as soon as tomorrow afternoon. i'll have details on that coming up when we check the full forecast in a couple of minutes. erin and matt. >> thank you david. breaking this morning, search is on for the hit and run driver who left a man critically injured along the roosevelt boulevard and this latest accident shows just how dangerous this stretch of the roadway can be for pedestrians. "action news" reporter katherine scott is live near the scene at front street with more. katherine. >> reporter: matt, this certainly isn't the first accident to happen in this area. the victim overnight is a

25-year-old man. he remains in the hospital in critical condition but he is expected to survive. and this is where it happened, the inner northbound lanes of roosevelt boulevard at front street in olney. it happened around 1:30 this morning and police believe he was walking in the crosswalk but they don't know yet who had the light. when officers arrived they found the victim lying in the road. he had head trauma, a broken leg, a broken pelvis. the driver kept going northbound on the boulevard. police say roosevelt boulevard can be a dangerous spot for pedestrians especially at night. >> the boulevard historically is a dangerous street especially to cross on foot. there's 12 lanes of traffic there's six lanes northbound, there's six lanes southbound which is a lot of lanes. >> reporter: this is just the latest hit and run to happen along this stretch. you may remember about two years ago when a mother and three of her children were

killed in a hit and run on the boulevard. that happened about a half a mile away from here at second. in this accident, the vehicle is described as either an acura or a honda dark or black in color and if you take a look here live you can see that roosevelt boulevard has reopened. it was closed earlier. police are hoping there's some surveillance footage to help in this investigation. it's not at the intersection but there are several businesses nearby that have surveillance cameras so they're hoping they can pull some footage. we're live in olney, katherine scott channel6 "action news." >> let's hope that helps in the investigation. thankingythanks katherine. in investigators say a man was trying to cross the highway when he was struck by a mercedes suv. the driver stopped nearby. the victim is in critical condition. >> happening today, the national transportation safety board is expected to release its latest findings on whether an amtrak engineer was using

his cell phone last month when his train derailed in philadelphia. eight people were killed and more than 200 were injured. legislation continues to work its way through the house that would cut amtrak's budget by $242 million. there is, however, new funding for video cameras to be put inside the cabs of locomotives to record the actions of train engineers. >> egg prices are soaring due to a bird flu outbreak that has killed millions of hens. maribel aber is watching the rise in prices live at the nasdaq in times square. hi maribel. >> hi there matt. yes, egg prices have tripled to more than three dollars a dozen in some states. the soaring prices are due to a bird flu that has wiped out 35 million hens about 12 percent of the egg producing flock. before the flu out break a dozen extra large eggs were selling for about 99 cents in the midwest. prices are now in the three dollars range.

the number of jobs has hit a 14 year high. employers posted 5.4 million jobs in april. that's the highest since more than 14 years ago. healthcare continues to add jobs at a strong wait. there was 100,000 jobs openings. the market barely moved yesterday. right now futures point to a higher opened. report on employee compensation cost is due out later today. boeing is shrinking bathrooms to cram more seats onto some of its jets. the company squeezed in 14 more seats by cutting the size of its restrooms on its 777 300er model. boeing hopes it boosts sales of the jetliner before it switches over to its next generation of the jet. the company also cut about 1200 pounds from there jet's weight by changing the overhead bins because erin and matt, lavatory isn't small enough. >> i guess now you have to be four-10 and 85 pounds if you want to fly. >> or at least if you have to go to the bathroom.

>> you can watch one hand at a time. storm tracker six live double scan shows you no precipitation this morning. it's actually a great day to fly on a dream liner or anything else i guess. as we take a look outside we have the airports speaking of the devil and we've got dry conditions there, low humidity lots of sunshine building up over the horizon and a very pleasant morning across the region. 68 degrees in philadelphia currently, allentown 57, 63 in trenton, 62 in wilmington and a little warmer, 68 in sea isle city and up the coast in atlantic city on the boardwalk there. lots of sunshine of course, a lack of any real significant cloud cover after yesterday's frontal boundary pushed through, still shooting away from us off the coast and there may be a couple of pop-up fair weather cumulus clouds as we go through the day but generally speaking pretty bright conditions. in allentown 85, lots of sun less humid in the lehigh valley and spots like bethlehem and easton as well as allentown even down toward reading it's going to be comfortable. 78 down the shore. that's your high with lots of sun and pleasant conditions. a couple spots might go closer

to 80 and in philadelphia we're going to go for a high of 87 this afternoon. now, that is warm and certainly warm enough to keep some cool drinks flowing if you're out doing some work today but with less humidity despite the warm sunshine it will still be more comfortable than it was the last couple of days. winds light at six to 12 miles per hour. as we roll through the day still 68 by 8 o'clock but quickly up to 80 by 11 o'clock and then in the mid 80's at 2 o'clock with our high of 87 around 3 o'clock this afternoon. and then tomorrow changes come. we've got a cold front coming down from the north ahead of it that will steer the winds up from the south and that's going to reintroduce hot and more humid air as we go into the afternoon. a hot high of 94 degrees with the humidity gradually on the rise and getting even stickier then as we head into friday. your exclusive accuweather 7-day, 87 is today's high, sunny and nice, low humidity. tomorrow gradually more humid and definitely hotter with a high of 94. there could be late day thunderstorm tomorrow. and then friday hot and humid a high of 94. probably even stickier on friday. heat indexes in through here

>> we've been telling you all morning about this horrible accident on 295 and karen rogers is standing by with a look at what is going to be a big mess this morning and a big backup. >> it is. we can see it developing as we speak. chopper six live on the scene right now. here's what they're doing. they have the heavy duty tow trucks outly we have two of them right now and they're getting ready to try to upright the tractor-trailer. i'm kind of surprised though because i would think they would have to take out the 80,000 pounds of apple juice. you've got these boxes all over the highway. looks like they may need to take them out before they're able to upright it. that's what they're working on now. you can see some sand as we go in closer, can you see that. i talked to police and i told them i thought there was a fuel spill. they said they did deal with that out there. there was a fuel spill. they sent the health department out there and new jersey dot as well. we're seeing one truck get by. chopper if you can pan back and let's look at the backup here they're at times blocking all lanes but police just told me they are also now blocking the ramp at route 45 -- at exit 45 and at exit

47 so nobody can get onto 295 until they upright this tractor-trailer and help alleviate the backup that extends for miles. this all happened here at exit 47 route 541 in burlington county, new jersey. this is 295 northbound traffic. such a busy highway. so many people climbing on 295 and you can see the delay just extends, they're at a standstill because at times they're blocking all traffic. traffic completely at a standstill. this delay has grown since the last time i talked to you. it looks different now. we can see that it backs up for miles now at this point. so, they've blocked off the entrances so nobody can get onto 295 because of that to try to alleviate some of the backup that they're dealing with. here is another shot of that with our maps and you can see new jersey turnpike a good alternate, 130 a good alternate. instead of 295 northbound this overturned tractor-trailer at route 541 exit 47 and there's the backup because of that. so just a mess out here and you can see as chopper kind of

pans back we've got a huge backup on 295 northbound. we have been tweeting all the latest with the #6abc traffic so that's a good way to figure out exactly what's going on through the area right now as they deal with this mess on 295. they're now allowing one lane of traffic to get by. also as we look at the big picture elsewhere we're looking at speeds -- i don't think the zero is quite right on i-95. we're looking at 55 miles an hour on the blue route 49 miles an hour on the schuylkill but some slow speeds on i-95. here's the schuylkill expressway. sun glare is an issue this morning but the big problem is the accident on 295. erin. >> all right, karen, we'll check in a bit. a violent brawl fueled by road rage caught on camera. a passerby shot this footage in hollywood california monday morning. the witness says two men in separate cars were screaming at each other. take a look at that. for about 10 minutes then both of of the men got out of their vehicles and started throwing punches. unbelievable. neither man has filed a police complaint but the lapd is

if you're working outside today but it's not going to be as humid and generally speaking a lot more comfortable. as we take a look at weather across the country a little choppier west of denver than yesterday. some showers and eventual thunderstorms down along the gulf coast. most of our east coast rain pushing away from us and a little bit of action out in the great lakes area. in terms of severe weather it looks like western new york, western pennsylvania including pittsburgh if you're flying out there and then northern ohio indiana illinois back to nebraska there could be some thunderstorms along that lane today that produce strong gusty winds. the best chance of ton dose actually western new york state today. nothing going on here but sunshine and a few high weather -- or fair weather cumulus clouds. no major delays at the philadelphia international airport at this hour and all of our most commonly traveled destinations are dry this morning. erin. >> all right, david thanks so much. a new study finds protecting girls from cervical cancer might be possible with just one dose of the hpv vaccine rather than the three now recommended. researchers looked at data

murder suspect has been found near the u.s. border with mexico. 40-year-old jeremy green was spotted in the same vehicle over the weekend less than an hour after police say he killed his estranged wife in their marriage counselor's parking lot in san diego. green's wife tressa filed for divorce in april. green is still on the run and is considered armed and dangerous. >> a california mom nine months pregnant took heroic mess measures when her four-year-old boy was bitten by a rattlesnake. the little boy stepped on a baby rattle snakes. within minutes his ankle started to swell and turn purple from the venom. his mom tried to suck some of the venom outer before taking him to the hospital but experts say that trick is very dangerous. instead they say wash the area with soap and water and call 911. fortunately the boy is expected to fully recover. a lot of matter nat instinct maternal
