thanks for spending time with us. those stories coming up. we start with breaking news about another malaysia airlines flight. >> supposed to fly from australia to kuala lumpur. it went in circles while addressing the problem. >> this was an engine fire that forced the plane down. it landed safely. all 300 passengers unhurt but, of course the airline lost two plane just last year one shot down over ukraine and hm-370 which australian crews are still looking for that disappeared. now to that major cyberattack on federal workers. >> it appears now the hack was far deeper than previously disclosed by the white house. abc's bazi kanani following this story for us from our washington bureau. good morning to you, bazi. >> reporter: good morning. a report this morning has the number of employees affected at 14 million. that is three times the original estimate. now, the nation's largest federal workers union says they

believe the hackers had access to every federal employee. a u.s. official says the security breach gave access to names and information of relatives and contacts of u.s. employees living around the world. the hack going undetected for more than a year. whether or not the hackers stored the information they had access to remains unknown. and, again, the hackers are believed to be from china. the government pledged it will notify each and every one of employees affected by the hack. that number somewhere possibly around 14 million. t.j. brandi. >> bazi kanani for us live in washington. thank you so much. turn now to millions of americans spending another day in the path of some severe weather that will bring more damaging rain hail more flooding and even yes, more tornadoes. >> today most active from colorado new mexico northern texas extending all the way up to the northeast and great lakes. firefighters in colorado springs had to rescue two women also after their cars were nearly swallowed up on a city street

and had to use the ladder on their firetruck to reach them. accuweather's justin povick has the rest of the forecast. >> thanks. good morning, it looks like it's going to be a very active afternoon over the ohio valley and extreme western portions of the northeast. dodging severe weather, i'm thinking damaging winds will be the primary threat. syracuse and buffalo, midevening early afternoon, detroit, toledo south bend munsey and indianapolis. the other big issue, sweltering heat temperatures well into the 90s as far north as new york city. factoring in the humidity it will feel like it's well over 100 degrees basically from noon till 5:00 again, h20 and sunscreen needed throughout the northeast. flash flooding going to continue to be a big concern through the weekend from the twin cities south into texas. t.j. and brandi back to you. >> justin thank you. we are on day seven now in the search for those escaped prisoners in upstate new york. 500 officers some of them working through the night are looking closely at an area near

the prison after dogs picked up a scent there. abc's marci gonzalez is in the search area. >> reporter: these dense woods and blocked off roads just three miles from the prison. >> show me your license and i.d. >> reporter: the center of the manhunt for these two escaped prisoners, sources saying bloodhounds picked up their scent and police have been searching on foot and by air ever since. finding a spot where they believe david sweat and richard matt may have camped out though new york's governor warns the killers could be anywhere. >> look they could either be four miles from the prison or they could be in mexico. right? you just don't know. >> reporter: governor andrew cuomo going on to a police are talking to several people who may have facilitated the escape. among those, joyce tillie mitchell. sources telling abc news investigators are looking into whether she was supposed to pick them up in a getaway car after their escape saturday. but instead checked herself into

a hospital for a panic attack. sources say within the past year prison officials investigated whether mitchell who supervises the prison's tailor shop had a relationship with one of the vick david sweat, but concluded there wasn't enough evidence. meanwhile, here in the search area police are stopping every car and reminding people who live nearby to lock up. concerned because now after a week on the run these dangerous men could be getting desperate. t.j. and brandi. >> all right, marci gonzalez for us thank you so much. turn to cleveland, a judge there says two cleveland cops should be charged in the death of 12-year-old tamir rice. he was shot and killed within two seconds of the officers' arrival at this park last november. rice was holding a nonlethal pellet gun at the time. the judge's ruling is only a recommendation though any charge against police must come from a grand jury. rice's family calling this ruling though historic. breaking overnight the fbi has arrested a second man in connection with that plot to kill boston police officers. nicholas ravinski is expected to

appear in court later today in boston. it's believed that usaama rahim may have shared details with him. rahim was killed by police when he refused to drop a knife. a northern virginia teenager is admitting he used to twitter to support isis. 17-year-old ali shukri amin pleaded guilty to providing support to the islamic militants. in just a year his twitter account had more than 4,000 followers. amin a lawyer says the former honor student is a good kid who got caught up in his opposition to the syrian dictatorship and faces as much as 15 years in prison. the colorado movie theater gunman's girlfriend said she urged him to talk to therapist. james holmes pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. the ex-girlfriend says she didn't think he was serious when he said he wanted to do evil. she ended the relationship after just a few months. the germanwings co-pilot who deliberately crashed his jet was

unfit to fly according to some doctors. andreas lubitz increased the dose of his antidepressant and reached out to seven doctors for help in the weeks before the crash. doctors never told the airline because of privacy laws in germany. the white house is pressing house lawmakers to support trade deals backed by president obama today. now, the president even stopped by the annual congressional baseball game last night at nationals park in washington. but his visit will likely be remembered for this picture. the president along with the stadium's famous racing presidents. the president tweeted in the shot saying along with i challenge them to a race. >> that race gets pretty rough. >> probably a good thing he didn't do it. still ahead, the pope's new ride getting a lot of attention. the big change to the popemobile. >> plus a growing controversy. an naacp leader under fire documents uncovered showing she may not be black like she says she is. and look out below. the dive going viral right now

well a gang of would-be thieves plowed through the front of a drugstore trying to get their hands on the atm. once inside they slammed into the atm several times hoping to free it up. it didn't happen. they finally gave up took off with nothing and left behind this footage. well in houston crews will be working well into the morning to clear away a freight train that derailed on a bridge over a highway. two of the train's 84 railcars plunged from the bridge. one into the road below, the other into an embankment. they were loaded with soybeans

the storms pounding the nation's midsection have created major flood zones that include parts of nebraska where swollen rivers can't hold any more of this rain and they're spilling over onto the streets. unfortunately, today's forecast still calls for more of the same. flooding will take a toll on the morning commute. could be slow going from colorado and new mexico all the way to the great lakes. another trouble spot will be along the gulf coast and louisiana and mississippi. flying may be a bit easier but plan on possible delays flying in or out of chicago or detroit. there is a bizarre controversy unfolding in spokane, bizarre i think is the correct word and really about the head of the local naacp. >> family members say this civil rights leader has been passing herself off as black for years. but her very white mother says rachel dolezal is czech, swedish, german and a bit native american now under investigation for identifying herself as african-american on a city form.
