good morning, it is 7:00 a.m. saturday, june 13 eva is off i'm nydia han. here's some of the stories we're following on "action news." beating the heat, a dip in the ocean water may be the best way to cool off as the temperatures soar once again today. new overnight a man was hurt after his lost control of his car and slammed into five parked cars. plus, philadelphia police launch their curfew crackdown along south street. first meteorologist chris sowers is outside with a look ahead in the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast. hot again, chris. >> reporter: yeah, it's going to be hot again but not as intense as yesterday. two weeks ago with the amount of moisture in the air two weeks ago this would have felt horrible him today it's fantastic. yesterday was stifling,

this is when you sweat it out and it's good. >> the school district of philadelphia dismissed classes at noon much to the relief of students and teachers in schools without air-conditioning. the heat hit just in time for the weekend down the shore. surfers say it's perfect weather for a dip in the ocean. but medics with the ocean city beach patrol are urging people to use umbrellas and use sunscreen and drink plenty of water. >> the heat will get them, if they are not not in the shade they don't realize how hot they are getting. >> we're staying in the shade and got a new uv tent for the beach. >> reporter: the shore was not the only place the action cam found people cooling down. clementon park found the wave pool and splash world is just as refreshing and you don't get sand in your shoes. we found everyone floating and

swimming and standing in the water saying that's the only way to escape the heat. we want to know how your escaping the heat. end us your photos or videos at join the action 6abc.com. one man was rushed to the hospital after his car struck five parked cars. it began on the 700 block of walnut in camden. the 36-year-old man lost control and hit a parked car and hit four more parked cars before stopping. the man was taken to cooper university medical center for injuries and to be treated for heroin overdose. a used syringe was found on the driver. the annual summer curfew is back for minors in the city of philadelphia. police want to make sure that kids out for summer break with time on their hands are not causing trouble.

dann cuellar was along south street that saw problems in years past. >> reporter: this is what happened on south street in 2010. a flash mob of teenagers converged fighting knocking pedestrians to the grounds causing utter chaos leaving residents in a state of terror. >> i put a chair in front of my door in case they came through i would have time to get out the back. >> reporter: in the aftermath police put in place a man to bring in large numbers of officers from across the city to keep things from getting out of hand. they enforced a curfew anyone 17 and under must be off the streets at midnight. >> we look at it as an opportunity for a teachable movement. >> reporter: officers at the

he was arrested thursday night for being connected to raheem. david writhe was arrested last week. raheem was killed by agents last week when he allegedly lunged at them with a knife. the firestorm continues over this woman the president of the spokane washington chapter of the naacp over her race. the naacp say ethnicity is not a quawflt for -- quality for leadership. the her biologic parents came forward and said she has falsely portrayed herself as african-american. the pictures show her as a blue eye blonde hair child. >> are you african-american?

>> beyond the question. >> -- i don't understand the question. >> we are her birth parents and we don't understand the problem with her ethnicity. >> the city of spokane is investigating whether she lied about her race for application for a position on a commission. a gloucester county man admitted to scamming $600,000 across the country by billing them for math and science books they ordered and don't even exist. robert armstrong pleaded guilty in court and serve 43 months in prison. authorities seized $25,000 froms bank account and new ford mustang. from our delaware newsroom there's a bill heading to delaware governor that would allow children to take an oil containing medical marijuana.

the legislation is designed to help children suffering from epileptic seizure. it would allow doctors to use the oil for children who don't respond to traditional drugs. governor markell plans to sign the bill. police take into custody a person following a deadly shooting at a mall in iowa. how some seniors are keeping sharp and in shape. coming up in weather feeling a little bit better, yesterday we had temperatures feels like 100 today we have temperatures at 90 degrees, the humidity comes back in the seven-day forecast, and showers and storms are around, as well. i'll have the details in just a few minutes.

>> in dallas police are in a standoff with a suspect who allegedly fired gunshots near police headquarters.

authorities say the suspect fired multiple shots south of downtown dallas after midnight. the suspect's van sped away. a s.w.a.t team is in a stand off at interstate 45 at interstate 20. that area is shut off. there were no reports of injuries. a mall shooting in iowa has left one woman dead and a suspect in custody. witnesses reported hearing gun shots sometime after 7:00 p.m. they said a man opened fire on a woman and ran away. the shooting prompted shoppers and workers to rush out of the mall and others remained on lockdown for more than an hour. the suspect was nabbed during a traffic stop 50 miles per hour away. here at home, a reminder for drivers to use the vine street express way to get into center city. get ready for closures due to the penndot bridge project. the eastbound/westbound closures begin overnights and go back into effect friday morning.

it will be warm and sticky, but not as bad. allentown, 73. philadelphia 78. winds are starting to shift out of the northwest that's the drier air trying to work its way in. high temperatures top out at 88, 8899. still muggy but not as bad. millville, 79 that's the heat index. satellite arena radar, we have a tug of war, high pressure to the north an high pressure to the south. this is the cooler high this is the warmer one and this is trying to force this front to the north or south. whichever high pressure is stronger that's which way this front will drag. right now we think this high to the north will take over today and this high to the south will take over monday and tuesday with temperatures climbing into the upper 80s and low 90s again. the ring of fire is developing around the high. everything out of the gulf up

and around to the east great lakes and the mid atlantic and the northeast. that sets up a tricky forecast as we get into sunday evening. storm prediction center has the mid atlantic in a slight risk for severe weather. great lakes northern ohio valley, that ring of fire wrapping around the southern high will things get active here tomorrow afternoon. today is quiet. combination of sun and clouds, dewpoints a little bit lower than yesterday. high temperatures lower than yesterday. so it must should be a nice day around here. don't forget the sunscreen. sunday morning, sun and clouds, same thing. sunday afternoon the thunderstorms start to roll in. some of them could be heavy. right now the storm prediction center is talking about gusts possibly as high as 60 or 65 miles per hour. lots of cloud to ground lightning strikes maybe a possibility of drenching downpours, that will continue through the late evening hours monday looks rather missesserrable around here -- miserable with numerous showers

across the country although we have showers and storms flaring up across the heartland of the nation. this heat pump high has been in the southeast over the last few days, stifling stuff down here. we're seeing showers and storms around the high, if you're traveling to pittsburgh, heartland of the nation, all these areas could see heavier thunderstorms later on. the threat of severe whether is minimum. there's a couple of areas where we could see strong winds that includes the high plains and the southern portion of the ohio valley. most of the major hubs should be quiet. low logan, 73 all flights on time. o'hare 57 degrees, that should feel good. orlando, 78 and atlanta 69. >> phillies lost against the

any charges against the homeowner in the shooting. police say a drunk driver slammed into nearly ten parked cars in somerton section of philadelphia. causing extensive damage you see here. it happened at 10:15 p.m. investigators say a man loss control of his dodge ram and hit nine parked vehicles. he was arrested and charged with dui nobody was hurt. the action cam was on the scene of a nasty crash in doylestown bucks county last night. 8 people were injured when three cars collided at pebble hill and spring valley road. one of the injured was flown to temple university hospital. no word on the cause or the severity of the injuries. firefighters battled a multi-alarm fire in cedarville where fire broke out at 8:00 p.m. the home was a total loss, but nobody was hurt.

in new york, the woman charged with helping two men escape from that maximum security prison is due back in court on monday. she made her first appearance yesterday and entered a not guilty plea. meanwhile, the manhunt continues for the two fugitives. marcy gonlz has the details -- gonzalez has the details. >> reporter: joyce mitchell facing the judge who supervised the tailor shop at the maximum correctional stilt in northern -- facility in northern new york smuggled in tools to help them get out of the prison. last year mitchell was cleared is to whether she was having a relationship with one of the fugitives. they are looking into whether the 51-year-old was supposed to pick the men up in a getaway car and never showed leaving the convicted killers on foot and

the lawyers are not opposed to the request. the charges of bank fraud and lying to the fbi were out of his sexual abuse as a high school wrestling coach and prosecutors say his efforts to pay $3.5 million in hush money to victim. we're learning information about a massive cyber attack targeting millions of federal employees. two officials say information as many as 14 million civilian employees dating back to the 1980s was compromised. governments union say they stole social security numbers. the attack originated in china. the chinese government denied any involvement. there's a tentative contract agreement between the catholic school teachers union and the philadelphia archdiocese. the union members must ratify the deal in a vote at the end of the month. details of the new contract

at least the temperatures go down the heat indices will not be near triple tickets like yesterday. cold front stretching across the mid atlantic this morning that will start to sag to the south later this afternoon as this high takes over and then this high will start flexing its muscle again as we get into sunday. that increases the humidity and it really takes a stronghold as we get into monday and tuesday. today, we're in the clear tug of war between the highs, all the rain showers to the southwest, the front buckles a little bit the humidity increases. the temperatures go down and showers and thunderstorms ride the frontal system. this whole area shaded in yellow if you're traveling to the west, chicago, milwaukee saint louis cincinnati heavy weather 60-mile an hour straight line winds and drenching downpours and hail. there could rough stuff out
