his bedroom. the homeowner grabbed his gun and shot the suspect in the stomach. he is in critical condition undergoing surgery. multiple suspects using automatic weapons opened fire on police officers outside police headquarters. it happened when the suspects pulled up to the buildings and started firing. police say at least one of the suspects rammed the police car and led officers on a chase in an armored van. the chase ended in a parking lot where negotiations are underway. as for a possible motive. >> the suspect had told her negotiators that he took his child and we accused him of being a terrorist and he is going to blow us up. authorities say they found four bags including one with a pipe bomb. fortunately no officers have been hurt in the ordeal so far.

again, negotiations with one of the suspects is still on going. a prison worker in upstate new york is facing charges accused of helping two convicted killers escape. joyce mitchell made her first court appearance late last night. she is due back in court on monday. 800 law enforcement officers have joined the search for the two escaped convict. marci gonzalez has more. >> reporter: mitchell who supervised tailor shop smuggled in some kind of contraband to help matt and sweat break out of the prison. last year mitchell was cleared into the vaccine is to whether she was having a relationship with one of the fugitives. authorities are looking into whether the 51-year-old was

supposed to pick the men up in the getaway car but never showed and possibly leaving them on foot and hiding out. >> you have to assume they are cold, wet tired and hungry. that makes them more desperate. >> reporter: officers on atvs combing the woods. blackhawk helicopters scanning from above and people being warned to lock their doors. >> rat night when i go to bed i'm scared i have a loaded shotgun next to the bed. >> reporter: you can see police out here for another night. meanwhile, investigators are talking to other prison workers who may have helped the fudge -- fugitives. >> a drunk driver hit nearly ten parked cars in somerton section of philadelphia. the cars were left a mangled mess it happened at 10:15.

investigators say a man lost control of the dodge ram and hit nine parked vehicles. he was arrested and charged with dui. nobody was hurt. new this morning a driver being treated for injuries and police say a heroin overdose after he rammed into five parked cars. it began on walnut street in camden. he lost control and hit a parked car. he kept going and hit another four cars before stopping. he was rushed to cooper university medical center. police found a used syringe on him. three cars collided in doylestown bucks county injuring 8 people. the action cam was on the scene at pebble hill and spring valley road. one victim was flown to temple university hospital, no word on their condition or what cause the the crash. investigators in cumberland county are trying to figure out what sparked a fire that destroyed a house.

chopper 6 was over the 900 block of hogbin road in cedarville where the flames broke out. not only did firefighters had to deal with the flames, but they had to deal with the heat and humidity. nobody was hurt, but the home is a total loss. federal processor want to keep some -- prosecutors want to keep some evidence against former house speaker dennis hastert secret. if the judge agrees the information would be disclosed to the people involved in the case. prosecutor's say the lawyers are not opposed to the request. charges of bank fraud and lying to the fbi grows out of the sexual abuse as a high school wrestling coach and paying $3.5 million in hush money to a victim. we're learning information about the massive cyber attack targeting millions of federal employees.

"action news" reporter, dann cuellar has the story. >> reporter: this is what happened on south street back in 2010. a flash flash mo mob of three thousand teenagers in the city knocking down pedestrians and causing chaos. in the aftermath of that violence, philadelphia police put in place a plan to bring in large numbers of officers from

her biologic family has come forward accusing her of falsely portraying herself as african-american. her parents say she is white and show pictures of her as a blonde hair blue eyed child. >> are you african-american? >> i don't understand the question. >> we are her birth parents we do not understand why she feels it's necessary to misrepresent her ethnicity. >> naacp said they will respect her privacy for what they are calling a legal issue where her family. she is being investigated into whether they lied about her race to get a position on a commission. one person is dead after a shooting at a popular iowa mall. the gunfire rang out last night. police say the gunman shot one woman who died. officers took the suspect into custody.

at this point there is no word on a motive. we are learning details about last month's deadly shootout between rival bikers games. police say 3 of the 16 officers outside the twin peaks restaurant fired a total of a dozen bullets. the rest of the shell casings came from the suspect's guns. nine people were killed and 18 others hurt. mers virus is spreading in south cora i can't. officials -- south korea. officials from the world health say it's contained to hospitals they say it's too soon to declare the outbreak over. 14 have died and 140 have been diagnosed with the mers including a dozen new cases just today. there's much more to come on "action news" saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. looking for a way to get fit and

>> i didn't want to deal with it. >> reporter: instead he chose surgery. it took some weeks to get the full energy back, but he is doing great. plus he dropped weight and brought his blood sugar level down. >> this is the thinnest i've been since i was 18. he is spreading the word for other men to take charge of their prostate health. you may have seen him on 6abc. >> i was diagnosed with prostate cancer i want to spread the word about early detection and get it checked. it's so preventible. you can do something about it. >> reporter: over the past 13 years, the gary pappa run has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to support prostate screenings for men. the race is june 21 at eakens oval and 10-k run and 5k run and fun run and walk.
