homes. a girl is found at a south jersey amusement park and there's no sign of her parents. airline passengers stranded in canada are finally on their way to their final destination. those stories but first let's go outside to chris sowers with the accuweather forecast. it's humid out there chris. >> reporter: sticky, sticky, same song and dance in the delaware valley. it's not as bad as i thought. present air temperatures are in the mid 80s philadelphia, 87 degrees, we're forecasting high of 88. dover, 84. trenton, 83, factoring in the humidity feels like 88 in philadelphia him 91 in dover. 88 in wilmington, 88 in millville. so again it's not just the heat it's the humidity. you combine the two if you're outdoors for any extended amount of time you'll feel it. take frequent breaks today.

as you look towards the top of the screen that's an upper level low that will swing across mid atlantic states this afternoon and that could trigger showers and thunderstorms, a couple of those could be on the heavier side. sun and clouds this afternoon humid, 88 degrees, spotty thunderstorms developing after 5:00 p.m. from west to east across viewing area. storm prediction center keeps the western suburbs in a risk for severe weather. one or two of the storms could turn severe with gusts to 60 miles per hour. drenching downpours and the possibility of small hail. even though the radar is quiet. things could get active in the next few house hours, when i see you guys again i'll talk built potential for severe weather not only this afternoon but monday night, as well and we'll talk cooler temperatures in the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast. >> we'll continue to follow a developing story this noon, a west philadelphia neighborhood was jilted awake this morning

when a 36-inch water main break flooding streets cars and homes. it all started at 5:00 p.m. it could be a while until life is back to normal on 52nd and wymissing. annie mccormick has been on the story all morning and joins us live on the action cam. >> reporter: nydia, this morning, north 52nd street was filled with water. all the water has receded. there's a lot of work ahead. you can see the crumbled blacktop. utilities are shut off always city officials and crews work to make repairs and number of people in the area are out of their homes while the repairs are underway. water looked like a geyser shooting high in the skies busting out of the street and merging cars. the 36-inch water main break is located in the middle of the 500 block of north 52nd street and it caused the street to buckle and left a gaping hole where the

cars became submerged. at least 13 homes were evacuated. police and fire crews helped people out of their homes and away from rising waters. >> somebody banged on the water and all i seen was water shooting up. >> reporter: she walked out to see her car under water. >> it was shooting up on all three of them cars. >> reporter: the water department was able to shut off the main in a matter of hours. an investigation into the break is underway. by 8:00, most of the water water receded and residents were asked tocy sales as he is the damage so pgw could check on the gas main next to the water main. mayor nutter arrived on scene. >> all the folks on 52nd street and most of the folks in the neighborhood have no

electricity at the movement. the water removal basement clearing operation is still going on, right before we came here we saw another basement easily five, 6 feet of water that part of the operation will be going on for sometime. >> reporter: animal back out here live not only are the submerged cars next to the water main break but they are on top of the gallons main. that's why this is a -- gas main. that's why it's a delicate situation. nobody is in danger, fire crews are standing by to oversee the operation. the philadelphia parking authority is standing by to pull the cars out. in the meantime, residence are out of their homes, they have not sought shelter from the red cross, many people are staying with family and friends. annie mccormick channel 6 "action news." >> quite the situation, thank you, annie. of. a 74-year-old man is dead after a fire at his ocean county

shore house early this morning. officials are not sure he died from injuries he stained in the fire for a massive heart attack. the action cam was on the scene at brick township new jersey. the fire broke out at 12:45. by the time the firefighters arrived the man and wife were out of his house neighbors were performing cpr and were unable to revive him. the dog died in the fire, they are looking for a calculation. employees found a 3-year-old girl at clementon lake park at 8:30. police were called in philadelphia and camden county, and no luck, the child is in the division of child and family service, african-american 3 feet tall thin build. green dress pink bathing suit

and pink crox. she said herb -- her name is shere. a 4-year-old girl who who was pulled from a pond has died. she was at a family picnic when she parentally wandered away. >> when we arrived there were several people at the retention pond and looking for the girl in the water. >> reporter: firefighters pulled the girl from the retention ponds and performed cpr. medics rushed her christiana hospital. newark police are investigating. they have released the little girl's name. >> police are looking for a ford focus after hitting a woman at oregon avenue. the woman was crossing the street when she was hit.

the victim is in critical but stable condition at jefferson university hospital. two separate overnight shootings in camden, new jersey have left one dead and others wounded. gunfire erupted after midnight. a man in his 40s was shot in the back and died at the hospital. three other victims were in their 20s, one in critical condition. police have not made any arrests, there's no word on a motive. police in dallas t texas believe anger over a child custody issue may have sparked an assault on police headquarters. family members identified the gunman as 35-year-old >> was he a perfect person, no. did he deserve to lose his son

no. >> he had a history of encounters with police and family violence. police say he fired on dallas police headquarters from an armored van he bought on ebay. he led officers on a chase when a sniper shot out the engine and shot and killed him. experts demolished the van because it might have been rigged with explosives. the search for two escaped murderers is in its 9th day. 109 involved in the manhunt for richard matt and david sweat. authorities found foot wrappers and possible footprint. joyce mitchell who is charged with helping with their escape was supposed to drive them several hundred miles in a vehicle. the naacp president

claiming to be black said she would talk about the situation at the group's monday night meeting. she identifies herself as an african-american saying she is is -- her parents say she is white. >> the long delay united airlines flight from chicago to london is reaching its destination after many spent the night in unheated military bar ricks in canada -- barracks in canada. the flight had taken off friday in chicago. while the flight crew were in a hotel the passengers spent a night in the military barracks with a few blankets.

>> there were young children and old ladies who did not have blankets we were not commune indicated effectively, i don't think the situation was managed well by united. >> the spokesperson said hotel space was not available so we accommodated our customers at a local military base and provided meals. more than 22 hours later passengers were flown to newark, new jersey where they boarded a second flight headed to london, i'm sure they will have a lot of the to say when they land. dangerous zoo animals roam free after flood waters destroy their enclosures. a state senator from one side of the isle saves a senator from the other. we'll have those stories when "action news" continues.

look at these incredible pictures coming out of county of georgia, devastating flooding has torn through the capital city. the flooding destroyed the city zoo allowing disebs of animals to escape including bears and wolves. the zoo's hippo fled, but was subdued by a tranquilizer gun in the city square. >> reporter: i had no idea they were so big. it's hot and humid nydia once again, the humidity becoming a thorn in the side. it's starting to aggravate people a little bit. 87 degrees right now in at this time. the dewpoint is up to 64 that's

of gusty thunderstorms. the next two days the big story is drenching downpours with any thunderstorms that develop. the modeling showing one to two inches of rain. depending on who sees the downpours. anybody is fair game to pick up a thunderstorm later this afternoon and monday. for the poconos thunderstorms around later on after 3:00. 78 degrees is the forecasted high in the mountains. >> reporter: it's comfortable out there right now, but the humidity will start to increase throughout the afternoon. down the jersey shore it's sticky, ocean temperature 65. sun and clouds on the beach. 77 degrees is the forecasted high on the sand, 88 for-month-old. warm and humid spotty afternoon thunderstorms developing late in the day. wind out of south at 5 to 10 miles per hour. overnight tonight cloudy, thunderstorms around, 68 degrees, outlying suburbs, 70 for center city. the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast, it's premp the -- pretty muchment same as what we had earlier. feeling like 890 degrees with all the humidity.

it's hot and humid though. thousands of people in our area continued a grand and generous tradition, 4300 bike riders took apartment in the american cancer bike-a-thon. the 66-mile trek started earlier this morning and e from the ben franklin bridge and ended in new jersey. it's the largest biking event it raised more than $2 million last year. in "healthcheck" this noon, south korean officials are going to reopen schools now that the mers cases are slowing. they think the efforts to stomp the spread are taking hold. they have to do more to declare the outbreak over. it's taking a toll on tourism and hotel and restaurant

it's when you're in the sun and working and doing yard work that's when it gets too hot. 92 degrees on thursday, we did not heat a heat wave. we fell short. thursday, 92. friday new record high, 895 degrees, heat index of 100. 101 in dover. yesterday we topped out at 88 degrees, the average is 82. the numbers continue to be well above the normal for this time of the year. we're at 87 we're not too far off 90. millville, 85 and trenton 83. the modeling actually puts us in the 90s this afternoon. this is a new update swuj into the weather -- coming into the weather center. the heat index increases we may climb into the 90s. this is double scan live 250 miles to the west, east of pittsburgh you can see the showers and storms starting to build. they will march east into the

area after a lake several hours ago. pretty much every utility from the city is out here, there are crews working hard. the neighbors living on the block are out of their homes while the crews are working on cleaning up. repairs will not be done until sometime. they are cleaning up right now while some of the repairs will be underway. water looked like the geyser shooting high in the sky busting out of the street and the submerging cars. the water spread for blocks. the 36 water main break is located in the middle of the 500 block of north 52nd street and caused street to buckle and left a gapele hole. at least 13 homes were evacuated and police and fire police helped crews out of their homes. >> i was in the bedroom somebody banged on my window, when i opened the door all i saw was the water shooting up.

on top of the gas main, now at this point pgw workers were able to shut off the gas and cap the main workers at the parking authority can safely tow it out of the ground. a number of residence out of the of their homes had an option to go to the red cross shelter. however, in this tight knit community many are staying with family and friends. red cross is giving water to the workers. reporting live in west philadelphia, annie mccormick channel 6 "action news." >> domino effect of problems, thank you. fire investigators into south jersey are looking into an early-morning fire in cinnaminson. explosion also and fire ripped through there tractor-trailer. fire broke out inside the trailer this morning. the trailer was filled with cans

of spray paint many exploded during the fire. it took us almost 45 minutes for crews to gain control of the flames. no word on what sparked the flames. the action cam was at the parlor pizza shop in lower merion. cleaning crews were overcome with fumes. two people are in serious condition. five firefighters were decontaminated at the scene they are okay. in camden, a man in his 20s was shot at this luk oil gas station. police found a man shot in the arm and leg. he have was taken to cooper university hospital in stable condition. no word on suspects or a motive for the shooting. today new jersey governor chris characterize was on this week with george stephanopoulos we sounded more and more like else ready to get into the

what you're missing up here is the humidity. it's not too bad across the poconos and the lehigh valley. the farther south you go it's oppressive special south jersey, the delaware bay region, dover, delaware, we have dewpoints in the 70s. gandys beach even though that looks cooler, you're benefiting from the bay breeze, the dewpoints are high, it's uncomfortable. jersey shore the temperatures are in the # -- 70s the humidity is high, so the temperatures are not as comfortable as they shall when they are that low. we'll be in the oppressive category overnight tonight and into monday. satellite and radar that's what we're watching east of pittsburgh. this complex of showers and storms pushing through johns town and altoona that will push east and encountering very soupy air mass that's over harrisburg and state college and points east. as it continues to march east it will get its act together and

keep an eye to the sky later on with showers and thunderstorms. surface maps frontal systems over top of us today they plant themselves over us tomorrow, today and tomorrow there's a chance of showers and thunderstorms. one or two of them could be on the stronger side. future tracker 6 shows by 5:00 we'll see the first signs of pop up storms. it doesn't look too bad by that vantage point. look what happens by 9:00. we get into bright reds and maroon colors that indicates drenching downpours and strong gusty winds. that will march east into the overnight here comes another batch 4:00. by afternoon we see another round pull through, that will be the trend through tuesday afternoon. either day, this afternoon tomorrow, neither looks like a watch, but there's the potential of drenching downpours the biggest threats will be downpours, high prohibit of that moderate numerous cloud to ground lightning strikes not an

>> recapping our top stories this morning a huge water main break flooded the area at 52 and wymissing avenue in west philadelphia. it forced the evacuation of more than a dozen homes. the water department shut off the main, and the streets are dry, but officials say repair work will take time. officials continue to look for the parents of a 3-year-old girl found wandering around clementon amusement park. police have not received any calls that anyone is missing a child. police in newark, delaware are investigating the drowning of a 4-year-old girl. investigators say the girl was at a picnic at the george wilson center on new london road when she wandered off and fell into a retention pond. she died at the hospital. one more check of accuweather.
