now. also there's some energy south and west of pittsburgh. that is heading to the south as well towards washington. that could clip parts of delaware a little later on this evening. for right now as we close in there was one downpour just south of quakertown that popped up in the last half hour or so but it's begin to go already fall apart as it's pushing south and east but that is really it right now as we take a look across the area with double scan live radar. what everyone is feeling is that humidity. as we look at the dewpoints which again is a measure of how much moisture is in the atmosphere, 70 right now is oppressive. that's how it feels when you step out. southern areas well into the 70's so that is just an indication the atmosphere has a lot of moisture content in it and any downpour or thunderstorm pop-up then that could ring out with some very heavy rainfall. the heat indices right now feels like 92 in philadelphia, 92 in wilmington, the same for corner not much better at the shore with more of a land breeze we're feeling between

to a collapsing floor this one gave firefighters all kinds of problems. walter perez now live near the scene in lower salford township. walter, you've got the details day. well, brian we'll take you right to the scene. as you can see the house was just destroyed. the demolition effort already under way. just a short time ago the family that lived here returned. they wouldn't go on camera but they did say it was a family dog that woke them up barking like crazy when the fire started and that in all likelihood saved their lives except, of course, for the mom who became trapped by the flames. it was right around 2 o'clock this morning when people along the 100 block of skippack creek road could hear the emergency vehicles arriving and as those folks started coming outside to see what was going on, they found flames tearing through their neighbor's home. >> i just was surprised at how quickly it spread and the house was totally engulfed in flames. i mean, you just kind of looked and went that's bad.

>> reporter: five people lived in that house. four escaped. rescue crews did what they could to save the fifth person identified as 62-year-old peggy corinne armato who was trapped inside. >> it was clear there was one woman trapped in the rear of the house. we attempted to enter the house when the floors collapsed underneath us. >> reporter: despite the floor collapse no firefighters were injured but mrs. armato was cleared. firefighters from nine different companies arrived the which took two hours to bring under control. the house was destroyed and what remains standing will have to be leveled. neighbors tell us they were stunned by the speed the fire spread. >> it was very unexpected. it was shocking to see everything develop so quickly. one of the things -- it's happening right in front of you and i think it's tough to wrap your head around it. >> reporter: back out live on the scene here the four people who survived are mrs. armato's husband, mother and two adult children.

no serious injuries to report and for now the cause of the fire remains under investigation. reporting live from lower salford, walter perez channel6 "action news." sarah. >> walter, thank you. one man is dead after a tractor-trailer crash in salem county, new jersey. chopper six was over the scene in quinten township on route 540. the crash happened just before 7:00 near cool run road. police say a 39-year-old man from glassboro lost control and hit a utility pole which caused the tractor-trailer to flip over. we're still working to learn that driver's name. two cars were crushed by a falling tree today in bucks county and police say all the rain we've had recently is like to blame. it happened just before 9:00 a.m. on river road in solebury township. police say two cars were driving in opposite directions when the tree came down and landed on both of them. both drivers went to the hospital but police say their injuries are not life-threatening. the road was closed for two hours while crews did the cleanup.

the family of a man killed by philadelphia police are asking district attorney seth williams to reopen the case after police admitted their original narrative was false. but williams says he won't take a second look. brandon tate brown's family held a press conference today at city hall. they say new evidence contradicts police claims that tate brown was reaching into a car for a loaded pistol. officers ended up shooting the 26-year-old last degrees. williams issued a statement today saying his office's investigation found in tate brown tried several times to get a gun from the car and that he was shot because his actions put the officers and bystanders in danger. surveillance video and interviews have shown the 26-year-old running around the back of the car a few feet from the passenger side when officer nicholas carell lee fired shots. >> he was happy with his life. and it was tooken from him by one person's judgment.

one person made a decision. accountability is all i'm asking. >> tate brown's family is suing the city. they say he was running away from a police beating after being stopped because his car didn't have headlights on. williams did not address this discrepancy. brian. >> alicia. the man nominated to run the pennsylvania state police has withdrawn his name from consideration t governor tom wolf said he accepted marcus brown's decision to remove himself from the process. brown's nomination was rejected by republicans in the senate. he was also opposed by the troopers union which criticized him for wearing the troopers uniform but not attending the state police academy. brown will remain acting commissioner until a new nominee is found. >> two young people were attacked by sharks less than two hours apart off the carolina coast. this afternoon the beaches are opened but it may not be safe to get in the water. abc's elizabeth hur is live

with more on the shark scare and the concern over swimming safety. elizabeth. >> reporter: with their eyes on the water from choppers in boats officials in oak island north carolina are keeping vigilant telling ab's matt gutmann shark attacks in the area are extremely rare. >> i have not encountered in my 16 years one shark attack. so to have two in almost the exact same place completely out of the ordinary. >> reporter: but after two attacks in less than two hours, two teens doctors say face a long recovery after losing limbs in just waist deep water. >> 911 what is your emergency? >> oh my gosh. >> reporter: the first attack happened at 4 o'clock sunday afternoon a girl bit in the arm and leg had to be dragged out of the water bye stands. 90 minutes later about 2 miles away another call for help after a 16-year-old boy was also attacked.

>> they said the head was about that big. it just came up and bit his arm. >> reporter: officials say it's not if not for others who rushed to help the outcome could have been much worse. although unusual there have been six incidents in the atlantic coast on the last two weeks, three in the last four days in this north carolina county: and in a statement dat mother of 16-year-old boy thanked everyone for helping to save his life this as doctors say he's now out of surgery and his condition has been upgraded from critical to good condition. we are live in new york, i'm elizabeth hur for channel6 "action news." brian, back to you. >> elizabeth thanks very much. a grammy winning jazz artist is going the take home a very prestigious honor this year. philadelphia mayor michael nutter just announced winston marsalis will be the recipient of the marian anderson award named for the great philadelphia native and musician. every year it's given to a person who uses their talents not only for fame but also for

the betterment of society. marsalis will receive that award at the kimmel center on november 10th and of course that will be one hot ticket in town. >> absolutely. let's get a check of that "action news" traffic report monday afternoon. >> matt matt pelman standing by in the "action news" traffic center. >> we've got accidents delays downed trees and all that jazz for the ride home on this monday afternoon brian and sarah and no earthquake, just a little bit of a shaky camera here along 95. northbound side we had a crash up by cottman avenue. that cleared out but got us off to a bad start this evening. so, northbound is extra heavy from the vine street expressway through this point approaching bridge street as you can see on up to cottman. had some construction here just a minute ago but it appears to have pulled away so things are opened. just going to take you awhile to get north on night. on the roosevelt boulevard northbound at cottman there was also a crash but that has cleared out of the way. and of course we had that huge water main break in west philadelphia this weekend so 52nd street remains closed

>> ♪♪ >> this is day 10 of the manhunt to catch two convicted killers who escaped from a prison in upstate new york. today the first court appearance for the woman accused of helping them break free. this is joyce mitchell you see her with her hands in cuffs her head down. today lawyers for the prison employee say they have decided to waive a preliminary felony hearing. she's accused of smuggling contraband into the prison to help richard matt and david sweat escape. she's charged with sneaking boxing gloves and lighted glasses into the prison and also supplying the blades and cutting tools the men used to break out of their cells. she also allegedly offered to be the get away driver but prosecutors say she got cold feet and checked herself into a hospital instead.

prosecutors now revealing her interaction with matt. >> her comments were, you know, he was paying attention to her, he was talking to her he was being nice to her. >> the men are still on the run in new york. governor andrew cuomo now calling for a full investigation but brian again, day 10 of this manhunt and it continues. >> certainly does. al shear shah thanks very much. jeb bush is officially announcing his bid for the white house. he's speaking live at a rally in miami dade college. he revealed a campaign logo today bearing only his first name which some are calling an effort to set himself apart from his brother and father and distance himself from the last name. of course jeb bush joins a long list of candidates vying for the republican nomination. >> there are conflicting reports about whether the united states killed a long time al-qaeda leader over the weekend. the libyan government says mokhtar belmokhtar died in an

air strike. the suspect official confirmed he was the target of a strike but said there is still no proof he is dead. the militants say the air strike missed him. they say the u.s. did kill four libyans associated with the attack on the u.s. consulate in benghazi back in 2012. >> the veterans affairs facility in philadelphia still has a lot of would, to do according to members of congress who paid a visit there today. two bipartisan house committees went to the va office in east falls. they found there's still a greater need for accountability oversight and trust between management and workers. an audit earlier this year found the facility mismanaged thousands of veterans claims. representatives today said the va office has made some improvement but not enough. >> target is selling its pharmacies to the drugstore chain cvs. the $1.9 billion deal will combine the resources of the

two retailers as they push into the healthcare market. target customers will be able to use cvs's pharmacy program and get flu shots at stores. the acquisition allows cvs to gain access to more patients and expand its minute clinic brand. the deal affects more than 1600 target locations. now a look tonight at the closing numbers. the dow down 107 points, nasdaq down 21 the s & p 500 down nine as well. gun maker colt defense filed for bankruptcy. the company says the move will not affect its operation. colt says the filing will allow it to speed up the sale of its u.s. and canadian businesses. an investment firm in new york has agreed to buy the company's assets and assume its liabilities. colt has been one of the biggest names in guns since the 18 40's when texas rangers first used sam colt's revolver. the u.s. military used the colt 45 for more than 80

years. >> it was once described as tired even tattered but now a key transit loop has a brand new look. they cut the ribbon this morning on the newly reconstructed 23rd and venango bus loop in the allegheny west section of north philadelphia. the $1.7 million project means a new center for bus transfers and connections used daily by some 5,000 center at a riders. it also features new shelters landscaping and safety lighting. >> let's get another check of your accuweather forecast as we're monitoring the possibility of some pop-up storms. >> adam joseph keeping a close eye on the radar. it could be an active night. >> yeah, isn't in some spots. >> right now double scan live radar really not much happening. you have to head far to the north of allentown toward the poconos, lake harmony pen

argyl just a quick little shower or two passing in those locations but we'll continue to monitor this evening because anything could pop at any time. high pressure really in control. south of our region through the carolinas and virginias that's where the heat s see the storms riding around that high. it's called the ring of fire. they kind of rotate around that massive air pressure center to the south and in fact it is quiet underneath that high but it is oppressively humid and dangerously hot especially in raleigh where it feels 100 degrees right now, 100 in cape hatteras richmond, 101 for philadelphia, feels like 92 degrees this afternoon but we could get close to that century point for how it feels tomorrow afternoon before we catch a break here midweek on wednesday. association here's future future tracker at 8 o'clock this evening. again, most of the area will be quiet but there will be these little clusters here and there that develop during the

evening. that contain very heavy rain, frequent lightning gusty winds. that continues at 11 o'clock but again the majority of us are dry just a few of us seeing those storms pop up but everyone is going the feel that heat and humidity. it will be very sultry overnight tonight with lows in the lower to mid 70's. again, with a few of those pop-ups around specifically. wilmington 73, millville 72 and atlantic city 73 degrees. take a look at how it's going to feel tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock. we could be again at or above 100 degrees south of philadelphia, that's the combination of the temperature and the dewpoint. feeling very tropical at home and speaking of the tropics we are watching the gulf of mexico. you can see the cluster of storms developing south and east of houston. this has a 90 percent chance of becoming tropical storm bill before it makes landfall just to the south of houston near corpus christi in texas. that would be around noontime tomorrow. there's the spaghetti plots

heading in that direction bringing flooding rains again in the deep south and then it follows around that high pressure to the south but even though you see the lines heading into the ohio valley and the midatlantic it will be far from a tropical storm before it reaches here but we could see later in the week some rain left over from the remnants of bill. as we look at your four day at 4:00 forecast, tomorrow it is hot with some pop-ups again in the afternoon, 90 but feeling close to 100 if not better than that. and then we catch a break much like last week on wednesday it was the less humid day. 84 degrees again this week and then it turns oppressively humid on thursday and very unsettled with numerous downpours and storms thursday at 81 and then friday partly sunny, not too bad with a temperature of 87 degrees. so we do kind of spike here tomorrow how it feels and how uncomfortable then we catch a break midweek. >> thanks very much. >> another major act signed on to head a night of musikfest.

unfortunately any relief we see might come with storms tonight. meteorologist adam joseph has more on the threat and the areas we're watching particularly closely. adam. >> yeah, right now it's mainly north of philadelphia where there's a couple of downpours that are trying to pop but if you see one of these downpours with thunderstorms it is going to add to the humidity 'cause you're throwing more moisture into the ground and then that creates almost a steam bath type of atmosphere and in fact as we take a look to the north, this is right around chatman as well aspen argyl and danceville as these are drifting from the northwest to southeast. no lightning strikes in the last couple minutes. really that's it right now across the area. as we look wider on double scan live radar they're concentrated to the north and that is not really sinking directly south. it is moving south and east and may clip parts of bucks county and the lehigh valley but there is a cluster north and west of washington that we'll watch as they drift

towards delaware and also some north of pittsburgh could enter the western suburbs in the next few hours. so how it's feeling. everybody feels that humidity. the dewpoints many dewpoint scale is oppressive since we are above that 70-degree level. you need to drop those dewpoints into the 50's to get some refreshing air in and that's going to come on wednesday. but until then, the heat index right now 92 philadelphia, the same for dover. on the brink of 90 degrees in the lehigh valley. and again, any of the downpours or thunderstorms that pop this evening not everyone will see them, but if you, to the biggest concern will be the torrential downpours that will come along with those downpours and thunderstorms but also some strong winds and of course the lightning. low scale for any of those pops this evening. brian when we come back we'll look at that seven-day forecast because there's another chance of i won't say much needed rain but some rain coming before the weekend. >> all right adam while we're talking about the heat i want to pass along this note that we just received.

philadelphia public schools will be letting students out early tomorrow at noon tomorrow. they will dismiss students at philadelphia public schools because of the excessive heat. more on that as we learn of it. in the meantime severe weather moves through while we're not on the air then you're going to be want to be following us on twitter. adam and cecily will be posting live updates throughout the evening. be sure to follow them along with the entire "action news" weather team. >> in west neighbors are dealing with the aftermath of a massive water main break. this is what it looked like yesterday as 10 million gallons of water shot up from underground near 52nd and wyalusing. today we got a look at exactly where that water came from. a 36-inch transmission main was nearly split in half by the jagged fracture. now the focus turns to why the infrastructure failed. "action news" reporter john rawlins live at the scene with the latest on the investigation and the cleanup. john. >> reporter: hi, sarah. both the cleanup and the

search for cause just beginning. it's going to take days, weeks, maybe months. the pipe was very old as we reported, it was put into service 130 years ago but it was inspector often we're told. in fact, it was inspected just two weeks ago using a high tech device and we are told there was not a hint of trouble. the day began with water department crews finally eye ball the 36-inch water main they found a huge fracture that seemed to split the cast iron pipe. that breach caused the geyser that erupted and sent torrents of water into basements and some first floors yesterday. today that broken piece of pipe was removed. it will be examined for clues as to what went wrong. >> from there we'll do some diagnostic on the broken section of the main to identify a cause and then we'll begin assessing what kind of repairs we have ahead of us. >> reporter: meanwhile residents and property owners dealing with the muddy now dusty aftermath some basements like this one still withstanding water others just waterlogged. water department claims agents

were going door to door beginning the process to get basements cleaned and electrical systems either certified or replaced so the lights can go back on in some 29 homes. those who saw their cars go under water and homes flooded expected to make claims against the city, many lost high value items in their basements. >> hot water heater, oil heater, my bikes, air conditioning,. >> generator. >> generator i had. >> reporter: mr. jackson and his wife carla feel like they're veterans of this. about a decade ago a similar flood here, different water main similar outcome flooded basements in this area. they know before there can be any cleanup the basements have to be deemed safe the power has to be restored to their house. the city will pay for that specialists to clean up the mess and try to make things as best they can. we don't know how much money the city actually spends every year for claims from water

department floods but it sets aside about 6 million dollars a year for such claims. live in west philadelphia, john rawlins channel6 "action news." >> john thank you. a montgomery county man will spend at least two decades behind bars for lacing a greeting card with a deadly poison. a judge sentenced nicholas helman to 20 to 40 years in state prison today. the hatboro man was convicted of delivering a lethal dose of homemade ricin to his ex-girlfriend's new love interest back in 2014. though that man avoided the poisoned scratch and sniff card helman was still charged with attempted murder. in addition helman was charged with threatening to hurt prosecutors, witnesses and a detective while he was behind bars. >> philadelphia police are looking for a man who terrorized a salon worker during a robbery in fishtown last week. surveillance cameras captured the suspect walking into lelie's beauty salon on kensington avenue last wednesday morning. he immediately rushed behind the counter and pulled a knife

holding it up to a 54-year-old woman's head. the worker opened the register allowing the suspect to get a lost cash from inside. she was not hurt in the process. a would be robber in north philadelphia also tried to take a worker hostage in order to get cash. cameras captured the suspect asking a few questions here at olney check cashing on the 3200 block of north front street friday morning. he left only to come back a few minutes later with a 25-year-old employee at gun point. the man then threatened to shoot that woman if another worker did not let him behind the counter. but when that worker realized the gun wasn't real, he refused. the suspect fled without getting any cash. if you've got any information on either of these crimes, we just mentioned please call philadelphia police. >> family members have identified the child who drowned in a delaware pond over the weekend. 44-year-old mariah selby wandered away from a picnic at george wilson community center in newark an saturday. firefighters pulled her from a

retention pond but she later died at the hospital. police say her death does remain under investigation. meanwhile her family is planning to return to that pond tonight for a memorial. the tribute starts at 6:00 p.m. >> well, if it's lunchtime or if you've got the munchies, there's a new food joint in trenton in trenton owned by a controversial long time marijuana activist. the restaurant is located on state street across from city hall and the owner is ed fortune who goes by the nickname nj weed man. along with an array of snacks the menu will feature salads, fruit, healthy food and smoothies. >> i'm a bone cancer patient. and my new year's resolution this year was to eat better and one of the hard things to do is to find somewhere to eat and when this opportunity came up to open a restaurant i said i'm going to make it work. >> now fortune is a frequent political candidate and has been fighting for years to legalize marijuana. he says he was able to open this restaurant with donations

week they will close the vine in both directions here by the schuylkill starting at 11 o'clock for construction. so, at that point you can use the schuylkill and 95 or stay local through the art museum area here instead of the vine street expressway. crash in doylestown along oakland avenue at donaldson street. also in lansdale right by line street park along main street at line street and in lower frederick still have that crash that's closing down big road route 73. stay up on little road instead. in chester county, there's a wreck on the southbound side of the route one oxford bypass approaching 796 so speeds there in the 20's as you head home toward nottingham this afternoon. in concorde township, a wreck along 322 at clayton park drive and one more is in magnolia camden county along warwick road near lafayette avenue. we've got more things to talk about. we'll do that at 5 o'clock. >> adam joseph has your exclusive accuweather 7-day when we come back.

>> ♪♪ >> and want to repeat one more time for those who possibly missed it earlier in the broadcast today. philadelphia public schools announced they'll dismiss early tomorrow in act fact at noon tomorrow due to the high temperatures we're forecasting, the uncomfortable heat we're feeling today and certainly more uncomfortable in nonair conditioned spots. >> equally as hot temperature-wise but the humidity spikes a couple more degrees. heat indices tomorrow could be close to 100 degrees in the city and it's very uncomfortable and dangerous especially if you don't have air conditioning. as we take a look at action cam in center city today, on the menu for lunch summer soup. i say pass don't even attempt it because not pleasurable but these folks seem like they're doing okay sitting outside especially if you have a cold drink of water or maybe some iced team as we look at double scan live radar most of the area right now is in the quiet. up near slatington the lehigh

valley there's a downpour or two roaming around and also one that has just popped up in parts of gloucester county in southern new jersey. this near clayton just passed over 55 north of franklinville approaching grant avenue. no lightning with this just to the south of 322. quick heavy downpour that passes through and it's moving quick enough that we're not seeing any flooding but if it was a little slower with the amount of moisture in the atmosphere it could really wring out a lot of water in a very short period of time. everyone is feeling the heat index that is at 90 degrees or better especially philadelphia down to the south but tomorrow that heat index could get close to the century point across philadelphia and especially southern areas as we await a cold front tomorrow afternoon. for right now everything is moving directly from the west to the east, kind of arcing around a high down to the south. there's a little bit of atmospheric energy around to their north and to the south to fire up these downpours and storms but it will be very isolated and scattered as we go through the evening and overnight hours so not

everyone will see them but if you do some heavy rain with it. otherwise, very warm and sultry tonight, 70 to 74 degrees, a very uncomfortable night. if you don't have air conditioning still keep those windows opened and circulate the air through your home. you don't want to shut the home windows if you don't have air conditioning. and then tomorrow it's unsettled. we've got that jet stream off to the north, high pressure to the south, a little ripple of low and cold front comes through so tomorrow is in the 90's but it will feel like 100 degrees and you add in those very high dewpoints and when we're taking a look at precipitation it's quiet tomorrow morning very hazy very humid and as a cold front approaches during the afternoon hours there will be those scattered storms popping again but much like today, not everyone is going to see them, won't be a solid line that passes through but they could contain some very heavy rain and frequent lightning again tomorrow. the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, 90 tomorrow. we could hit some low 90's so it's not a whole lot hotter than today but it will feel

fill in gaps and relax frown lines with injectable products. now there's a new one claiming to reduce double chins. we first with one of the first doctors to get it to find out what's the deal with kybella. kathy davis' eyes always zeroed in on one thing. >> i couldn't stand this part of my face. >> reporter: neither exercise nor weight loss made that double chin budge. >> i hate face time on the phone because i look like i'm looking down and it looks even bigger. >> reporter: dr. tim greco says double chins can be real trouble spots. >> it's usually due to genetics aging sometimes weight gain. >> reporter: liposuction surgery has typically been the best option but now there are big hopes for kybella. the first injection approved by the fda for under the chin fat. kybella works in a unique way. >> it actually attacks the membranes, the fat cells and breaks them down. >> reporter: but dr. greco says it has to be used carefully to avoid critical places on the neck.

first, he marks the jaw line so he can stay clear of a nerve controlling the corners of the mouth. >> if this gets affected, your lip actually rides up a little bit. >> reporter: the specific treatment area is also marked and a washoff grid put over to it make sure the injections are done evenly. kybella injections are shallow into the layer of fat just below the skin but above neck muscles. >> mostly it's a series of treatments and the number of treatments is going to be based upon the severity. >> reporter: in the fda tests most patients needed three to four treatments one month apart but some need up to six. after each there can be five to seven days of swelling, bruising and some numbness. over the treatment span, the double chin is supposed to gradually shrink and the skin tighten as shown in these before and after pictures from the trials. we're going to check back in with kathy to see what her results are like. we don't know the pricing just yet. kybella's maker won't release that until the end of the

is the hot humid conditions that continue across our region. >> and we've got another chance for pop-up storms tonight. let's get the very latest from meteorologist cecily tynan and accuweather. hey, cecily. >> hi, rick and monica. this is the last week of spring and it certainly already feels like summer. double scan live showing that we are looking at a few pop-up downpours but they're very isolated not widespread. one of one cluster right now moving through the lehigh valley just north of 22, south of 512 heading towards easton just north of bethlehem. no cloud to ground lightning strikes with this cell, it's just a heavy downpour with all the humidity in the air it can really pull down a lot of rain in a short period of time. another one through gloucester county right now right over coles mill road moving through the east. that's beginning to die down as it does. but it is certainly hot and humid and the live look on double scan, the wider view showing what's going on. there's a warm front up to the north so most of the focus of thunderstorm activity is missing us to the north.
