scan showing a little bit of a shower that's been working its way through malvern and you can start to see the beginning of what looks like a thunderstorm well out to the west. west of harrisburg. maybe one or two places this morning get a stray shower or a quick thunderstorm. most of the area is dry in the morning and the real issue is later this afternoon. 74 degrees right now in philadelphia, very warm and sticky. 71 in allentown. 73 in millville. fog is an issue and these are updated numbers. we're now .3 of a mile just about everywhere north and west of the city so that's a concern and 2.5 visibility at philadelphia international airport so definitely watch for flight delays forming and call ahead. looking at the day ahead by 9:00 a.m., 81. by noon, 87 with clouds and sunshine and we're going to see the chance for a shower or thunderstorm any point after noon. by 3:00 p.m., 91 degrees, that's your high. by 6:00 p.m. 84 degrees come do you know from that high. the trouble with these thunderstorms, matt, is any one of them could produce such drenching downpours if you're driving home in the evening and you get caught in it it's really going to be a problem. we'll talk about that more and

show when exactly they hit coming up in a minute. >> sounds like it could be an eventful afternoonly we'll be here to help you through it. good morning everybody. the fog has increased as you can see here in northeast philadelphia earlier we looked at this shot and saw 95 by cottman avenue. now you can't see much of anything. so, allow a few extra minutes. you're not going to be able to go quite as fast because visibilities are impeded by the foggy conditions. little closer to the ground you can see the vine street expressway here in center city and we're starting to see some westbound delays headed towards the schuylkill but everything is opened now. vine was closed of course overnight for construction and will close again tonight starting at 11 o'clock. no problems on the schuylkill expressway itself or the roosevelt boulevard aside from the foggy conditions. fifty-second street still blocked in west philadelphia because of sunday's huge water main break so just stick with one of the other numbered streets there. getting reports of a fire location in lower providence this morning along lark lane at owl street but no major eastbound delays so far if you're traveling on 422 coming from pottstown in toward king

of prussia. traveling through princeton watch out for a water main break blocking the northbound lanes of 206 near mountain avenue. harrison street gets you around that in princeton and on the new jersey turnpike if you're headed north towards north jersey expect delays this morning. they're investigating an overturned tractor-trailer near 8a jamesburg and they have a couple of the truck lanes blocked. tam. >> okay, thank you matt. now as karen mentioned the mercury is expected to rise even higher than yesterday and that's already having an impact when it comes to philadelphia schools. "action news" reporter katherine scott is live in roxborough and she'll tell you what it means. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, tam. another steamy day ahead. philadelphia public schools like roxborough high school where we are are letting out early today due to the heat many people across the area have been dealing with this hot weather and in some spots they've also seen some fierce storms and flooding. more storms could be expected later on today. >> this is the first time i've seen it happen that fast. >> reporter: last night the

waters quickly swelled. flash flooding after 4-inches of rain fell in some parts of bethlehem. easton avenue at willow park road was under water surrounding the keystone pub. >> within 15 minutes it flooded pretty quickly. >> reporter: the hope house assisted living facility was evacuated. a giant truck was brought in for the high water. cars were submerged streets impassable. the wild weather capped another day of high heat and humidity across our area. and we're in for another hot one. all school district of philadelphia schools are closing at noon today due to excessive heat. there are a number of graduations scheduled. those schools have the option to remain opened for their ceremonies. and so if today is your graduation day you're going to want to check with your individual school to see if your ceremony has been affected. we are live in roxborough, katherine scott, channel6 "action news. >> all right katherine thank you for that. now we've got some breaking news, a fast moving house fire has displaced four

people in north philadelphia. crews got totten hundred block of west monmouth street and found heavy fire in the back of a house about an hour ago. they quickly got that fire under control. the wires came down so peco has been called to the scene. so far no word on any injuries. >> new this morning, a drive by shooting left a man critically injured in the overbrook section of philadelphia overnight. the 20-year-old was shot in the torso at 66th street and lansdowne avenue at 12:30 a.m. police are trying to put together a description of the vehicle seen league the scene. two people are expected to be arraigned this morning in connection with a violent home invasion in delaware county. the victims are an asian family who own a bar in marple township. police believe they were targeted because of that. investigators say four men forced their way into the broomall home yesterday afternoon, took money and jewelry from a safe and tied up the victims. police later found the getaway car and four people ran from it. officers nabbed jermaine and sterling wallace of yeadon and a 17-year-old. police are still looking for

the fourth man. >> it is 6:05 and this morning restoration and repair crews will be back in a west philadelphia neighborhood flooded after a massive water main break. crews removed the 36-inch transmission pipe that was nearly split in half. sunday morning 10 million gallons of water filled the 500 block of north 52nd street flooding cars and basements. the water department says the pipe was put into service back in 1885 but it had just been inspected two weeks ago. >> worries but a tiny country in europe and its debt problems are once again spooking stocks. stacey delikat is in for maribel aber and has our market watch report live at the nasdaq in times square. hey, stacy. >> reporter: good morning, matt. yeah, well, a disappointing report on manufacturing on top of the greek debt crisis had investors selling yesterday all the stocks were down and right now futures are pointing to a lower open. a report on housing starts is due out later today. meantime the gap is closing a quarter of its stores in the u.s. as it struggles to boost

growth. 175 locations will be closed with the majority to be shut down by early next year. gap is also going to cut 250 jobs at its corporate offices. closings come as consumers buy more clothes on line leaving gap and other retailers with just too many brick and mortar locations. cvs a buying target drugstores and clinics. the deal will give cvs more than 1600 pharmacies in target locations throughout the country and the 80 clinics target currently runs will be bree branded as minute clinics. it will expand its clinic business into markets sump as seattle denver and salt lake city. matt and tam. >> thanks stacy. what you got? >> i've got some storms later today. >> yeah. >> so, be careful if you're headed out later. if you're golfing, make sure you tell me where and when and i'll watch the radar for you. storm tracker six double scan radar showing we're basically dry. we have had a little bit of a

sprinkle near malvern kind of fading away at this point. you might see one or two places get a brief sprinkle. let's take a look outside right now and see what's going on. fog has been a big issue. visibility at philadelphia international airport down to 2.5 miles so that's a huge deal and less than that north and east of the city. satellite6 and action radar showing, yes the clouds, couple of sprinkles have been trying to pop up, kind of fading away. the morning basically dry but it's later on today that we get these storm. they come earlier in the day than they have been lately so any time right after lunchtime. the scattered storms that we're going to see, not everybody is going to get them but it's a big deal because we could get torrential downpours so if you're driving in one it will be one of those days it feels like the sky opens up right above you because of the high humidity. we also have a risk for strong damaging winds up to 60 miles an hour. so, that really could be threatening with any one of these storms that forms. future tracker six showing at 7:30 in the morning maybe a sprinkle in one or two places, most of us just stay dry. the bigger deal is later on. at 12:authority we start to see a cluster trying to form to the northwest.

by 2:30 in the afternoon i think some of these storms are through the area and you see the colors. the purple the red that just means driving rain but you get the idea from this not everybody seeing it. we look at 6 o'clock in the evening and again not everybody gets it but some people right during the evening drive time you could be getting these storms come through around i-95 because the cold front is pressing through. you see the difference with the clouds and then it clear tort northwest. that moves out of here and that sets us up for a pretty nice day tomorrow. we're clearing out some of the clouds and we're also clearing out the humidity and the heat so these storms will help us a little later on. let's take look all right day planner. by 8:00 a.m. 79, maybe a shower in one or two spots. by 11:00 a.m., 85. you're dry. by 2:00 p.m., 91 with some of these storms trying to form in a couple of places. by 5:00 p.m. some spotty storms 85 degrees coming down from your high of 91. it's hot and really uncomfortably humid. tropical storm bill formed yesterday. we have been talking about this looking at the tropical sat life. you can see how it became more organized as some of the rain

continues to push off into eastern texas areas that don't need to get flooded are getting four to 8-inches plus of rain. we'll have to see if some of that moisture could work its way into our region for the weekend. it's a little unclear right now. here's your exclusive accuweather 7-day forecasts it's humid today really uncomfortable. gusty thunderstorm later 91 degrees for your high. and then tomorrow less humid and it look dry during the day. wednesday night into thursday, that's when we get a few more showers and thunderstorms. it could be a bit wet for your morning commute and later in the day with a thunderstorm and that's going to hold the temperature down to about 79. friday partly sunny another break for you, looks dry at 87 degrees. saturday mostly cloudy skies. you'll see some sunshine, 85. not going to rain all day but a few scattered showers or thunderstorms and that's the day if we see any moisture from tropical storm bill we'll get it. sunday summer begins and of course we're celebrating dad for fads philadelphia. it's hot 90 degrees for your high with a storm or through through the area and then monday hot with a couple of thunderstorms and 91 degrees.

the ben franklin bridge looking live from camden and it's looking a little bit foggy as you can see here. karen is like what is going on here? yeah, this is the bridge roundup. it's foggy but the traffic here on the ben franklin bridge is looking good so far this morning. but that fog is also farther north and farther east of the city, so you're seeing foggy conditions at the burlington bristol and tacony palmyra bridges and 35 miles per hour is the max at the betsy ross bridge because of the foggy conditions this morning but as you work your way south you're not seeing as much fog so we're looking okay at the commodore barry and the delaware memorial. here's another look at the platt bridge. we're sitting right at the mid span. traffic coming toward the airport headed westbound headed right for me, yikes is looking okay. no delays if you're headed towards philadelphia international airport but once you get there good chance you'll find delays with your flight because of the foggy conditions. you want the use the platt bridge during the midday because from 9:00 until 3:00 they'll be working on the drawbridge the passyunk avenue bridge and stopping all traffic from time to time so at that time the platt or 95

the girard point bridge will be better bets. and an update for you if you travel between sea isle and avalon unfortunately that townsend's inlet bridge is still closed but they're thinking that possibly later this week around this weekend they're going to finally be able to get that opened. was scheduled to be opened by memorial day. didn't happen. it's been running late but the construction should be wrapping up pretty soon. tam. >> thank you matt. rachel dolezal has stepped down as president of a naacp chapter in washington state but the firestorm around this woman is not letting up. she told the world she was black but last week her parents came out saying that dolezal is really white. erin o'hearn is live at the big board. erin the phrase hot mess is overused but it real does seem to apply to this situation. >> reporter: the story keeps getting stranger and stranger tam. this is 37-year-old rachel dolezal appeals to have carefully constructed a life as a black civil rights activist in the last decade but that world is falling apart following a shocking revelation by her parents that

dolezal is actually a white woman who has posed for years as african-american. her parents produced this picture of her as a young girl with fair skin and straight blond hair. her mother saying rachel began disguising herself as black after they adopted four black children years ago. dolezal has resigned as president of the local branch of the naacp lost her position as a part time african studies instructor at a local university as well as her job as a freelance newspaper columnist is that now the subject of a probe by the city's ethics commission. dolezal has not only identified herself as black for years but has also filed numerous racial harassment complaints. since this recent uproar, though, police have suspended investigations into those claims. dolezal initially dismissed the entire controversy saying it arrows from a legal dispute that divided the family. but she came under increasing pressure from naacp members to

resign. >> a lot of people that i've talked to especially in the african-american community that feel very hurt by the lies and deception and i think they're still waiting for answers. >> that was the first step was stepping aside and it's up to her if she chooses to give an apology to the peoplely they would like it. they would appreciate it but it's not required. because we're going to make a conscious choice to forgive her regardless of her actions because that's the right thing to do. >> reporter: clearly mixed reactions to the resignation. dolezal hasn't responded directly to questions about her race but has said in a statement "i will never stop fighting for human rights and will do everything in my power to help and assist. there's also new information that dolezal actually sued howard university where she attended for grad school for discriminating against her claiming she was passed over for positions in favor of african-american students. of course we'll keep you updated on 6abc.com.
