including the pastor, kney also a state senator. >> they caught the suspected killer two hours away from here in north carolina. right here this road leading up to the church is blocked off and people are coming by all morning long leaving showers. >> it was prayers that brought the victims here last night and the same bringing mourners back to the crime scene. inside of this church nine people shot to death in what investigators say was a hate crime. >> acts like this have no place in our country or a civilized society. >> and after a night the fbi and police spent the night searching for this man, identified as 21-year-old dylan roof that got away in this black hyundai,

police say he sat an hour with parishioners after starting his rampage last night telling a woman he would let her live to tell people what he did. >> this is an extremely dangerous individual. three people survived including a 5-year-old girl that says she only survived by playing dead. >> we have three people coming out including a child. >> among them killed was the church's pastor. state senator clementa pinckney. >> he was the moral conscious of the state assembly. >> the grief of this attack is just setting in. police have not released the names of the other victims but we are getting more details on the other suspect, a tip led police to him and was cooperative when taken into custody. >> reporting live in charleston,

cool with the clouds that are holding tough not far off 84 in washington and 89 in richmond right now 66 in philadelphia just go down to richmond almost 90 degrees, 84 in roanoke, so why is that? i have stormtracker 6 live double scan setup on our satellite image and one thing you notice is how the clouds set up in the city, if are you in delaware or southern parts of delaware you are starting to find the breaks, we'll see more and more fill in and there will be a big temperature swing depending on where you are are, and tracking the chance for showers, i think the best chance is getting them in places like dover delaware places south and west of the city, so many people at the firefly music festival today, we are watching for a possible thunderstorm and it could be strong and what will be the only spot that will warm up 80 degrees by 8:00 p.m. warm and muggy and 77 and 11:00 p.m.

multivictims is a tragedy there is something particularly heart breaking about a death happening in a place in which we seek solace and we seek peace. in a place of worship. and mother emanuel is more than a church. this is a place of worship that was founded by african-americans seeking liberty, a church that was burnt to the ground because its worshippers worked to end slavery. when there were laws banning all church gatherings, they conducted services in secret. when ther was a non-violent movement to bring our country in line with our ideals some of our brightest leaders spoke and

led marches from this church's steps, this is a sacred place in the history of charleston and in the history of america. the fbi is now on the scene with local police and more of the bureau's best are on the way to join them. the attorney general has announced plans for the fbi to open a hate crime investigation, and we understand that the suspect is in custody and i'll let the best of law enforcement do its work to make sure that justice is served. until the investigation is complete, i am constrained in talking about the details of the case. but i don't need to be constrained about the emotions that tragedies like this raise. i have had to make statements like this too many times. communities like this have had to endure tragedies like this

too many times we don't have all the facts but we know that once again innocent people were killed in part because someone that wanted to inflict harm had no trouble getting their hands on a gun. now is the time for mourning and for healing. but lets be clear. at some point we as a country will have to reckon with the fact that this type of violence does not happen in other advanced countries. it doesn't happen in other places with this kind of frequency. and it is in our power to do something about it. i say that recognizing the politics in this town foreclose a lot of those avenues right

now. but it would be wrong of us not to acknowledge it. and at some point it will be important for the american people to come to grips with it. and for us to be able to shift how we think about the issue of gun violence collectively. the fact that this took place in a black church also raises questions about a dark part of our history. this is not the first time that the black churches have been attacked and we know that hatred across races and faiths pose a particular threat to our democracies and ideals the good news is i am confident that the outpouring of unity and strength and fellowship and love across

charleston from all races and all faiths and from all places of worship indicates the degree to which those old vestiges of hatred can be overcome. that certainly was dr. king's home just over 50 years ago after four little girls were killed in a bombing at a black church in birmingham, alabama, he said they leaved meaningful lives and lived nobly we must substitute for caution and not be concerned about who murdered them but the system and the way of life and the philosophy that produced the mudderers. and their death says to us we must work passionately and unrelent entally.

in south carolina police say they shot the man accused of killing nine people at a bible study last night they identify him as 21-year-old dylann roof he was captured about three hours away from the shooting scene and remains in custody at this hour. investigators say he sat in a prayer meeting at ame in charleston and then opened fire. they said he was there to shoot black people. several officials have spoken about the arrest in the past hour including an emotional president obama just minutes ago. >> acts like this one have no place in our country and no place in a civilized society. >> that is not something we ever thought we would have to deal with having said that we are a strong and fait
