hospital after his car is riddled with bullets. is it a part of history or symbol of hate. the renewed debate over the confederate flag. newark police pulled a 76-year-old man out of a ford escape before it was hit by an on coming freight train late last night. chad perdelli is live at the railroad cross crossing where this happened with the full details. chad. >> reporter: sarah this was a close call. it happened after 11:00 p.m. last night. the vehicle the suv was actually stuck right there near the stop sign, half the suv was on the train tracks, the other half in the gravel. there were many people out here with cell phones recording the collision, the train slamming into the suv. here is what happened after they

began running outs and recording on their cell phones. you can see i'm told by newark police that the vehicle was pushed a quarter of a mile down the train track. newark police tell me that the driver 76-year-old he tried to take a right off main street and got stuck on the tracks and on the gravel. fortunately for him throes a tavern next-door two off duty police officers were working security detail. they were alerted and ran out and came to the suv the warning gates began to come down, the alarm went off they pulled the driver out of the vehicle. >> shortly after that the train struck the rear of the car and pushed it down to north college avenue. >> reporter: and csx transportation said the train was traveling from georgia to new york, fortunately nobody was injured, i did speak with the

to you when i step inside with the complete accuweather seven day. >> thank you. there's a possible break in the search for two escaped prisoners, abc news confirms dna samples were found at a hunting camp in northern new york. abc news correspondent elizabeth hur joins us with more on the new discovery. >> reporter: a news conference by authorities wrapped up, as you noted during the press conference a positive dna linked to both suspects were confirmed at a hunting camp in franklin county new york. that's not far from the prison that's why the area is saturated with law enforcement. an official breach on the search confirms to abc news a positive dna match has searchers on the trail for david sweat and richard matt swarming the hunting camp 20 miles from the

prison where they disappeared from seven days ago. both s&pes were confirmed -- both suspects were confirmed hundreds of officers are checking every car with road blocks every half mile. this after a reported sighting over the weekend almost 400 miles away near the new york/pennsylvania border. >> one man with a brownish white scuff issue if he is, when i glanced up, he pulled his hood up like he did not want to be seen and back down to the other side. >> reporter: most reported sightings have been around the train tracks that run through sweat's childhood hometown. we are learning that investigators are continuing to interview prisoner employees including gene palmer who is on paid leave but not charged with

death along the 1700 block of scattergood street. he was found on the sidewalk. the victim was pronounced at the scene. homicide detectives have not named a suspect or possible motive. police are looking for the gunman who shot two people in north philadelphia overnight. one of the victims was in a toyota camry on north 11th street. he told investigators he was driving he saw a group of people and heard gunfire. he was treated for a graze wounds and released. the second victim was shot as he walked down the street. he remains hospitalized at this hour. a delegation of philadelphia city and church leaders arrived in rome today. they are finalizing plans for the pope's visit during a world meeting of families in september. mayor nutter and the top public safety personnel will be meeting with the vatican police and the pope security forces. brian taff is there for the final meetings ahead of the papal visit to philadelphia.

>> the man suspected of killing a new or lesbians police officer is back in custody. travis boys was being transported to jail in handcuffs when he managed to shoot darrell hallway he was wearing the broken handcuffs when he was captured. he is charged with murder of the police officer on top of the assault charge he was originally arrested for. police are investigating how he got the gun to shoot the officer. a group of robbers used a machete on their victim as they tried to steal a bike in los angeles. when he resisted, the men began hacking him with a 24-inch ma cheltenhamy. he was hospitalized with cuts on his face and lost part of his thumb.

the suspects drove away without the bike. a former white house chef has been found dead more than a week after he went missing. search teams discovered the body of 61-year-old walter scheib last night in the new mexico mountains. his girlfriend reported him missing june 14 when he did not return from a hike. he was white house chef for 11 years under bill clinton and george w.bush. police say a wrong-way driver caused 8 separate crashes on a highway in texas. when he stopped he appeared dazed and confused in cell phone video captured by another driver. >> i followed him along, when i saw him come to a stop i jumped the guardrail and wanted to make sure he didn't go anywhere. he is facing a list of charges including intoxication and assault, several people were hurt when he crashed into their
