on the map right now is back by the great lakes but this line of thunderstorms is going to be moving closer to us and later this afternoon and this evening we'll see it drop through with perhaps some strong gusty winds. temperatures right now are warm and muggy. 76 degrees in philadelphia, 66 in allentown, 73 in trenton 75 in wilmington, 75 down the shore and your dewpoints, they are back. after drop in humidity yesterday, we've got a lot of dewpoint numbers in the 70's. any time you get over 70 it's what we consider oppressive humidity and that's basically what you got if philadelphia all the way to the shore. a little better up in allentown but still sticky there as well. heading out the door over the next couple hours muggy under partly sunny skies. 79 by 8:00 a.m. and as we roll through the day the heat is on today. we'll be up into the 90's as soon as noon, maybe even 11 o'clock. your high today is this 95-degree reading here at 3 o'clock and any time after about three or 4 o'clock especially starting out in the northern and western suburbs and then cruising down through philadelphia by later in the afternoon we do have that chance of strong gusty thunderstorms and karen, these

actually are going to be strong enough in some cases where we definitely want to take cover. i'll have more on all of that coming up. >> so we have to be careful of that for the evening commute. for the morning commute we're dry, we're clear. pretty light volume through the area. no extra overnight construction and no delays on i-95 as we're looking live here approaching cottman. that's your southbound traffic headed towards center city. moving just fine. i'm right now looking live at the vine street expressway here approaching the schuylkill. the vine has reopened in both directions so no problems here but it's going to close again each night so we're going to be watching for those closures starting at 11 o'clock during this week. i know that's been giving a lot of people headaches and those headaches will continue. in north coventry township chester county a downed pole from an earlier accident it was closing 422 in both directions. eastbound reopened but westbound 422 is still blocked between route 100 and 662. if you're in this area you can just stick to 724 as your alternate. in blue bell we had a fire location but the crews have just left the scene so it's clear on pemberton road at

erin o'hearn is lie at the big board with the details on this debate. emotional on both sides, erin. >> reporter: it is nydia. this is a decades long debate that as you said may have reached a ting point since the massacre in a charleston church last week. south carolina's governor nikki haley is demanding state lawmakers move quickly to take down the confederate flag in front of the state building. and take a look at this. it's mississippi's state flag which has a confederate emblem on it. now one of that state's top lawmakers is calling for it to be removed. and many say the confederate symbol represents hatred also associated with racial violence slavery and segregation. but back in 2001, mississippi voters decided by a two to one margin to keep the state flag it has used since 1894. since then, bills that proposed to change the flag have gained no track. no inn south carolina haley says she's not against the heritage the flag represents but said yesterday it is time for a change but some family members of the charleston

digits in fill today. >> hot and humid and strong thunderstorms. storm tracker six double scan shows you there's nothing over land rider now. as we take a look outside we have sky6 and your crooking at the sun trying to poke through the clouds over the ben franklin bridge. we'll see a sun and clouds mix for the first part of the day. later in the afternoon clouds get thicker and we have a line of storms coming through. temperature currently is 76 degrees and how about that dewpoint? all the way up to 70. any time we get that number at 70 or higher we start talking oppressive humidity and actually points south of philadelphia have dewpoints above 70 so once that sun does break through it's definitely going to feel steamy. winds out of the south at 7 miles per hour and maintaining a south or southwesterly flow today. in terms of storms, looks like we're fine past lunchtime and into the early afternoon. by 3 o'clock the model still only wants to put a couple spotty guys here and there. pretty quickly after 3 o'clock and right on up until 5 o'clock you can see how there is that chance that the northern and western suburbs and even down close to philadelphia start to the blow up a number of these spotty storms and everywhere they hit
5:40 am
they're producing drenching downpours and perhaps some strong gusty winds as well. by 7 o'clock some of these are still plowing through philadelphia a little bit of lingering activity in the northern and western suburbs and by 9 o'clock, it looks like most of this is centered closer to the shore and then by 11 o'clock, it's mainly out of here. but along the way, we do have some several threats. the biggest one will be strong gusty winds out of these storms. , see how the storm prediction center has us in orange over the region and that's a moderate chance ann little better than usual chance that anything that pops does have the potential for producing strong gusty winds. some of these storms have a low probabilities of hail. that wouldn't be out of the question in a few areas. from about the i-95 corridor and up to the northwest there's the chance of an isolated tornado. the better chance of that is probably up in new england but i wouldn't be surprised if we saw one or two of these popping up briefly here or there. the bottom line is you look at all of these threats and you know if you hear thunder this afternoon or this evening you head indoors to the lower floors just in case. the other part of the story of course is the heat.

by 11 o'clock we're at 88 and then we spends the afternoon in the 90's with a high today of 95 degrees and of course it will feel like it's about a hundred as nydia said because of that high humidity. your seven-day from accuweather 95 is today's high. hot, humid uncomfortable. that line of afternoon thunderstorms rolling through starting in the northwest and then ending up at the shore this afternoon and this evening. sunny and nice behind this on wednesday with a high of 87. lower humidity. great for the union match at ppl park at night and then on thursday sun mixes with clouds, 84 is the high. there is the chance of an afternoon or evening shower or thunderstorm. we're hoping it holds off until after the tall ships arrive. our parade of sail special of course here on 6abc starts at 2 o'clock but that will be a little iffy. we'll see about that. friday cloudy. it's not going to be a washout but it will be damp with occasional rain. 77 the high. and then breezy and cool on saturday. and how about low 70's for the weekend? there may be some showers saturday night into sunday but nice temperatures. >> sounds lovely. >> yes. >> thank you david. >> thanks, david.
