time for accuweather for the "action news" big board adam joseph has changes on the front. >> we are watching the severe line and we got a tornado warning issued for chester county over downingtown, here is the graphic we are just putting this together it was issued a couple of seconds ago, this is until 5:45 p.m., just east of the coastsville and downingtown this is where the radar was picking up rotation including exton and westchester and all the way east to king of prussia including devon and berlin heading to the east at 35 miles per hour as we take a look at where to go if you are in a tornado warning, go into the
5:25 pm
lowest part of the basement the first level of your home stay away from the second story window, that is where the most damage is avoid windows, go to the lowest level of the house the best place to be would be an interior closet or a bathroom without windows you'll want to cover your head in that tornado warning area, as we go to stormtracker 6 live double scan a little bit closer here, it is heading towards lineville at 5:27, and coatesville at 5:27 and bradford hills at 5:28 this is a tornado warninging downpour doppler radar indicated. it was indicated around downingtown and we see a couple of areas where you have these little hooks coming into the squall line pushing in and the heart of this storm is around coatesville and around downingtown, 171 lightning strikes in the last 15 minutes.
5:26 pm
a very dangerous storm a tornado warning until 5:45 p.m. and we'll see if we have this other source with 3-d we are tilting it in that 3-d mode can you see coatedville and just to the north and east of coatesville, we see the cylinder on radar this extends from the top of the storm tapping into strong winds we are getting a rush of wind and you can see that cylinder extends to the ground of coatesville and moving eastward at 35 miles per hour, here is the pennsylvania turnpike, it's just south of there, if you know your territory, a couple of cylinders near exton and moving eastward towards malvern and berlin get to the basement first level of your home, and we are getting tremendous amounts of lightning now and going back to the street level of double scan, lets go
5:27 pm
closer east of downingtown where we see the hook, what is where we can get the indication of where this could possibly be here is exton right here is westchester, basically between there and over downingtown and in fact double scan technology thank is reflect mode, showing the heavy rainfall and lightning as it pushes east of 322 if we can, to flip over the storm relative velocity mode, we look at this, this is an indication of winds in the storm and takes out the moment up of the storm you have in the velocity mode red. this is winds moving away from the radar greens are moving towards our radar it's opposite forces of the wind, you see this blocking a red and green side by side, there is indication that there is rotation in the storm
5:28 pm
and this mode is the best mode to be in not the mode where you see the rain because this could be street level paul lets close in closer with this, to see xakly what streets are on here, and put them on here where you get the bumping of reds and greens, over downingtown south of the 30 bypass a couple of roads is boot road, right off of 202, and also east lancaster avenue heading north and east of downingtown and in fact 322 to the south. lets go farther east, this is moving directly to the east here, here is a couple of heads up if are you more in the path of the storm near grove if you are in grove, i would be taking shelter now as well. it's about to passover corey road and this is doppler radar indicating that means the radar is seeing rotation, we don't have a spotter that saw a torn on the ground but a good time to
5:29 pm
take cover. raven road as well. and another one that is south whites whitesford road south of downing grove. we are not seeing a cylinder at the present time here, that was originally north of coatesville but a lot of time with tornadoes in our area, they ten to be weak and sometimes they bounce, they hit the ground and come back up. that is what the radar could be seeing, the cylinders that pop up and then go away, we are locking live at double scan live radar, going effort at 35 miles per hour heading just to the south of malvern and north of westchester, and heading south of radnor, as you get this track, the towns over here are kind of updating exton 322, westchester 5:33 and green
5:30 pm
hill 5:34, and that continues to move off to the east. moorestowns it is heading towards is frazier at 5:37 and mill town 5:38, this is the direct path of the doppler indicated tornado, 87 lightning strikes, you are talking about dangerous vivid lightning and a tremendous amount of rain and just very strong winds and in fact with that. as we take a look here here is double scan live in 3-d we see a cylinder pop up again and kind of going in and out at this time. and basically it's right over the pennsylvania turnpike right over the pennsylvania turnpike just to the north and west of malvern, the new interchange that opened a year or so in malvern that is where we see the rotation with this storm on double scan live radar the last 15 minces seeing 44 lightning
5:31 pm
strikes in this part of the storm, and i want to go back and tell you safety tips between if are you just joining us the tornado warning in chester county until 5:45 p.m., stay off the second story of your home, lowest floor in your home, inkechuku ndukwen interior rooms without windows would suit. where do i go on the multistory building, first level and base many perfect even better and in those areas cover your head. let me go back to the tornado warning, to show you where we are talking about in chester county west of coatesville you are not within this warning, mainly near exton as well as westchester south and east of king of prussia and glen mills but in the direct path is
5:32 pm
malverner berwyn moving across the main line. lets go back to double scan live radar, the storm velocity mode here, winds are moving away from the radar near westchester and grove, and the wind is moving towards the radar and the perfect signature on the velocity here for the rotation you would want the growns and reds to bump up and touch one another, we see a void of some of those winds in the grove there is some separation here a good sign but nonetheless you want to take shelter on route 100 and boot road and westchester and east goshen park you are under the gun for this moving in from the west right now and there you see the heaviest part of the storm that typically follows where there could be a tornado and that is typically ahead of the storm and you get the tremendous lightning
5:33 pm
and rain past where the rotation is moving in from the west right now mill town in the direct path, moving off to the east, here is glen mills as you bump into delaware county to the south, this is on the verge of that heading towards malvern and gradiville at 5:43 and just reading off some of the towns and even paoli 5:42 you are in the path of this possible tornado. these nasty storms are moving in from the west and they continue to trek off to the east and let me bring in 3-d as well. and if we can maybe tilt that again to see if there is an indication, right now it is not there, don't let your guard down because you don't see a cylinder, they tend to pop up here just popping up in the last frame last updated imagery here on live scan radar north
5:34 pm
and west of malvern, here we are at the intersection of downtown westchester and north of boot road and exton a populated area and it's rush hour and you know people traveling at this time, get them on the phone and let them know what is going on and if they are in a car, they want to get to a sturdy building near a shopping mall, go and head indoors for a short amount of time. if are you in this path east goshenville or goshen park north of milltown the storm velocity mode here, the greens moving away and the reds moving toward. and at this point it could be if there is any left over rotation in this particular storm it would by over grove at this present time. the time now is 5:34 and this
5:35 pm
twos until 5:45, to the eastern part of the chester county and i'll bring the map in for you where this warning is in effect until 5:45, between exton and westchester, and it gets close to king of prussia, but it's moving into the areas that are very populated route 202 route 422 all in the direct path of what could be that storm releasing a tornado. again we go into the radar right now and then okay and i just got word, dann cuellar is live in exton well head out there you are on the phone in exton, you are seeing and hearing a tremendous amount of lightning now am i correct. >> big brought lightning what happened just a few minutes ago just before 5:30, suddenly it looks like 8:30 at night than
5:36 pm
5:30 in the afternoon it got roly dark and lightning everywhere and the rain is coming down ferociously and we saw the winds come in and one in the clouds they looked ominous before the rain started. kind of greenish grayish looking clouds and then the rain and lightning crackling behind me, here in exton off route 100 adam. adam are you there. >> dann you are correct, you get the strongest winds and rain before the lightning arrives, a greenish glow to the skies we get this light reflecting off of ice in the clouds sometimes it's hail that gives off the greenish color are you in the heart of the storm when it comes to the rain intensity and the
5:37 pm
lightning intensity. but where the possible rotation is, is east of you, you are safe there, it's near malvern and westchester and to your east. i'm assuming it's a constant rumble where you are listening to. >> it's almost constant every 10 seconds a boom and then another lightning and thunder going by and real brought flashes of lightning brought ening up the sky, it was 5:30 and bright and sunny and all of a sudden gradually it looks like 8:30 at night really dark here and coming down hard in the exton area. >> look at that. really big bright lightning there. there it is. >> i can hear it because you have 58 lightning strikes around you in 15 minutes, that is just an indication, are you in a van
5:38 pm
i hope. the news van. >> yes we are in the van we are not getting out of this van now. >> stay in the van dan for at least 15 more minutes. the storm extends west of downingtown and tremendous amounted of water on the road and as well as live shots on sky 6 hd on the roads there, we want to let you know where you are dan are you okay in the van when it comes to a possible tornado, it's east of you but stay in the van because of the lightning bolts are constant and vivid and i'm assuming the rain intensity is intense right now. >> it's really coming down hard here adam, the roads and water is accumulating on the roadways it's coming down faster than the drains can handle so the water is starting to accumulate on the roadways coming down ferocious
5:39 pm
ferociously here. >> dan appreciate that update. stay in the van another 15 or 20 minutes and then the storm will lessen in intensity. and sky 6 hd showing multiple flashes here going on. the possible rotation is just to the east of westchester right now, near glens mills just to the south and with the of newtown square on the verge of east strausberg road and route 3, we see the hook coming into the storm where you sometimes get the rotation dan eluded to seeing a greenish color to the sky and also the ferocious wins prior to the heavy rain. and this is downtown westchester and mill town and west town road heading towards route 3, just north of edgemont moving east at 35 miles per hour, and i want
5:40 pm
to look at 3-d to see the cylinders we see one pop up but not one at the present time. you can see you are are looking here what are the dots? those are the lightning strikes, tremendous amount of lightning after a very hot humid day fueling these storms and again here you can see the reds and growns trying to come closer together, earlier i was telling you gray in trend the two and west town road, the greens are going towards the radar and the reds going away from the radar this is where there could be rotation and if there is not rotation at the ground we are talking about a tremendous amount of wind being row released from the area be near west town, if anyone knows the roads better than me it's matt pellman. talking about this general area, of the tremendous amounts of rain coming down.
5:41 pm
>> that is right in the area are you talking about we are seeing the downpours in exton, this is route 100 at commerce drive as the vehicles travel northbound on route 100 you can see the amount of water they are rolling through, so much rain has come down here, there is a substantial amount of ponding and flooding. this is just south of the turnpike by 113 so southbound traver right here, can you see the rain is really coming down occasionally we so the flashes of lightning in this area and the car went through the intersection can you see the amount of water in such a short amount of time has build up on route 100 at route 13. the switcher we use to switch the cameras is based in malvern any power problems in malvern, means we cannot continue to switch the cameras the rain is falling and we have numerous
