caused the destruction. nora muchanic is live now in clarks bro, it's no tornado but the damage is just as bad. >> this is just one example, we have utility poles and trees sheered off and knocked over, this area of gloucester county was hit hard. the chainsaws are running at the house on democrat road in gibbs town but the backyard is still covered in 80 foot trees that snapped off in the storm that landed on to vehicles demolishing the sedan in the front yard. >> the tree came across the car and landed on the roof and all the trees snapped off overhead here and it was wild, never saw the winds that bad in my life. >> cathy ran out in the middle of it to rescue her dog bebe. >> i had to shove the screen and go down on my back and around the corner.

last one this is u.s. 1 southbound federal highway it's still closed and that tree is still tangled in power lines. >> it's a slow process to get the lights back on in delaware county, first peco crews have to fine and assess the problem and then the tree you cutters move in and clear entanglements only after that can new polls and wires be installed. peco then gave them this timeline they hope to have 95% of service restored by midnight on friday they anticipate they will have several thousand customers in delaware county whose service will not be restored until the weekend. >> the damage is widespread, and southbound route 1, baltimore pike, downed trees and cars trapped by the trees. >> tree after thee down hanging over the road. >> on the southbound side.

>> and cars basically marooned. >> yes they must have gotten out of their cars yesterday and left them there. >> many without power today one lone exception d and i beverage with their generator chugging along. >> everybody needs ice putting it in their freezers to keep other food from going bad. >> good luck with that, 66000 that is the number of people still without power in delaware county and the thinking is it it may not be until friday or saturday, until those folks get power back. we spoke to the man in that story and he could not get ice from his supplier, it was just not available. electrical service is not the only thing affected by the stom people are dealing with cell phone problems as well.

specifically verizon customers the action cam found crews making repairs in wilmington delaware verizon says the storm affecting their fiber lines it has fixed the problems in delaware and chester counties and the issue is still on going in new jersey. lets head over to meteorologist adam joseph live at the big board you were on the air during the worst of this storm? >> it was a long night for many of us the worse squall line i have seen in many years pass through, the reason why these storms were damaging because they grew to levels of more than 40,000 feet in the atmosphere, think of a commercial airline they are between 30000 to 35 thousand feet. they are higher than that, fueled by intense winds called

updrafts, what comes up must come down in the form of down drafts ahead of this storm. in addition to all of that air have you the storm speed they were moving at 45 miles per hour the speed of the storm with the powerful down drafts what sent the winds in access of 70 miles per hour, creating the straight line wind damage. here is the latest they could be in speeds of 70 to 100 miles per hour, debris is spread around and an ef 1 tornado we see around here every once in a while, straight line winds could be worse. today the strongest wind gust in philadelphia history, 72 miles per hour, the first was 94 miles per hour from hurricane hazel, this came from a thunderstorm not even a tropical system. but today we can all take a

hump that is for sure. we have issues to contend with after last night's storms that is for sure rick and sharrie, patco is running up like this morning but only every 20 minutes, those trains are not going as frequently as normal and njt's a.c. rail line is not running whatsoever, so the nc buses are cross hoppering tickets. septa buses up and running once again including to the chester transportation center. on the septa regional rail, media elwin not running and fox chase has resumed service but across the board expect 15 to 20 minute delays because of signal sish yous and the high speed line is not running between radnor and 69th street. on the highways though we are trying out but crowded like most

center city, this is a beautiful sight, the atmosphere is exhausted after the storms that rolled through yesterday here are the wind gusts with the straight line wind damage with hurricane force in medford at 75 miles per hour and near hurricane force in delaware county, and king of prussia 70 and same for hammonton and glassboro, and the wall of wind arrives with the line of storms. right now 83 in philadelphia and same for millville and same for allentown and wind from the northwest and no sea breeze this afternoon and beautiful at the shore and temperatures in the low 80s, satellite and radar the brilliant sunshine out there and a few high clouds streaming through and the cloud cover will set up for a spectacular sunset this evening and clouds are increasing not late tonight but during the day tomorrow as a warm front arrives. 66 tonight in philadelphia and 60 in millville and upper 50s to

>> like a train coming towards the house, the windows were shaking and it was this awful noise and we ran from the back bedrooms out to the back of the house and saw nothing but utter destruction everything landed in the pool and trees are twisted. >> the tornado like winds cut a straight line from the backyard into the woods and badly damaging the pool and amazingly nobody was injured and the home was not damaged. >> we feared for our lives and i yelled to every to get in the hallway because we don't have a basement. >> and she and her husband were wrapping up dinner and watching weather reports. >> my husband was never so frightened. it was black. >> and you were scared too? >> you better believe it. absolutely. >> i will be back at 5:30 with

swirling and on to cars stopped at the light thanks to casey for sending this video as well. here is what is looked like today. denise collins captured this video driving through baltimore pike, tree after tree lined the southbound lanes and many of them tangled up in power lines peco says the debris and damage rival that of a severe ice storm. >> it only lasted 20 minutes but left its mark across the city, crews are working to row move downed trees on belmont avenue today and they faced a detour on city avenue after a tree fell on the light and blocked traffic. if it wasn't for adam joseph's forecast, her deck would have been a mess today.

fire officials say a carbon monoxide leak senfive people to the hospital in northeast philadelphia this morning, the first reports came in at 6:is an along north caster avenue they found extremely high reading in the home and they found three adults and three children unconscious, and they were all rushed to the hospital fortunately all are expected to be okay. officials are now trying to figure out where the leak was coming from. >> a 35-year-old stabbing victim walked into this wawa asking for help overnight and police say the man was attacked on sheffield avenue at 1:00 a.m., he was able to walk around the corner store at frankford avenue and asked someone to call the police, medics took the victim to the hospital in stable condition. the convicted boston marathon bomber is sentenced to

a california motorcycle rider survived a high speed collision and captured the whole thing on his helmet camera, jessie lopez was wearing a go pro, and slammed into a los angeles fire truck traveling in the opposite direction and the firefighters radioed for help and air-lifted lopez to the tram trauma center, lopez was lucky to survive his careless driving and had a message for other drivers be cautious when riding and don't do what i did. lopez was treated for leg fractures and an open arm and it was like watching a movie with someone else. a man in china was counting his lucky stars when he saw a saw blade crashing through his truck.

center. >> perfection is not what we are seeing on the roads lets start and give the illusion of perfection on 95 looking better than yesterday and the sun is out and the road is dry and we can see the road from the camera unlike last night when the storm rolled through. but as we get into the burbs we have major issues with downed trees and wires out there in chester county 926 is still closed close to 202 and pleasant grove road is a possible alternate and the busy lanes of south route 1 and baltimore pike is busy all day, stay down on 322 as another alternate. crossing into delaware some closures here, barley mill road is closed down and business 13 out of commission and brandywine boulevard a possible alternate and gloucester county where the

meteorologist, adam joseph is back now with a closer look at the accuweather forecast a little nicer than what we have seen over the last 24 hours a huge improvement from this time yesterday we follow the storms working into chester county and we see all the damage video and we take a look at this, we have seen this across the area, a tranquil picture and puffy cumulous clouds and blue sky and humidity is lower when the sky turns white in appearance and more humid and a breeze blowing the fountains around all is quiet this afternoon, from the shore to the city, from the lehigh valley to the poconos. we are below average for this time of year, that is not a bad thing, 81 allentown and same for millville and dover at the shore no sea breeze today and

temperatures on either side of 80 degrees, the humidity has dropped big time yesterday, it's oppressive and that is what fueled the storms with the dew points in the 70s, when it's below 60 it's comfortable out, slightly humid in southern areas but not that bad. satellite and radar a few ribbons of storms passing through ahead of a warm front coming through tomorrow afternoon, a few patchy clouds and around and 50s in the suburb and then the warm front arrives very late tomorrow and we start with sun and end with clouds in the afternoon and then it turns wet at night most of the rain should hold off until after sunset at 86 degrees and humidity remains on the low side tomorrow a wave of low pressure develops and moves through some we have early rain on friday and a lot of clouds in the afternoon with peeks of sun and 80
