get everybody back online. wednesday night and jim is off and i'm monica malpass, and the big story is the extensive storm damage still across the region our crews have fanned out and john rawlins has more on the feverish work to restore power and first new jersey correspondent correspondent, nora muchanic is live. they are determining if the damage was caused by a tornado? >> that is what people think but after having the weather service surveyed the damage they determined it was straight line wind. this woman was outputting her recycling out when the storm hit. >> she felt herself being picked up by the air and this tree cracked and when over on top of

her. >> neighbors heard her screaming for help and managed to pull her out from this toppled tree. the storm picked up a neighbor's garage and dumped it next to his house. >> my duck boat came off the trailer and is in my neighbor's yard with the motor still on it. >> with the extent of the damage, many thought it was a tornado but the straight line winds brought power lines and trees down everywhere. >> we don't know what lines are hot and what are not. respect the road blocks. >> and a neighbor's tree tore a hole in her house and she cannot get her insurance company. >> i don't know how extensive the damage is and what is pretty bad.

t.j. taylor had damage to his house and it's a mess. >> the roof flew off and when into the window and i saw the trees coming down and one tree landed in the back and one landed on the front. >> hard had and goggles and a tiny chainsaw. >> he was with me and is add men about wanting to help out. >> neighbors around here are helping and they need that because getting the power back on and getting all of this cleaned up will take some doing. nora muchanic channel 6 "action news." >> thank you nora also in new jersey a tree split this williamstown home in two when it was hit last night. and we have reports that downed tree destroyed other homes in the neighborhood.

and now a disaster emergency in this county because of widespread damage david murphy joins us with more details there. good evening. >> reporter: it clears the way for procurement and money coming in to delaware county. this huge oak tree falling on to this house will be covered by the homeowners insurance. these two women were in here at this time and they were shaken up and don't want to be on television but others in the neighborhood are dealing with falling trees. >> it gives me chills just looking at it now. >> i thank god that nobody got hurt. >> john took the grandkids to hershey yesterday otherwise they would have been home when a tree landed on this house this is what is left of his bedroom, he

left to go downstairs. >> one time it kept coming and he just ran out the front door and got out of there in time. he is on the brookhaven council and is camping out on the driveway since the house condemned his house. and they the storm took aim at the mayor. >> my sick more tree, 150 years old, snapped like a twig. >> in the city of chester this tree came down at 9th and curlin crushing a car and another one landed on this house on providence road, many trees brought down power lines, hundreds of traffic lights are out leading to chaos and accidents like this one, 67 residents sought shelter last night and it may be the weekend before they get their power back. >> the cleanup is now underway

outages still tonight. with hundreds of thousands of customers without power crews are working around the clock trying to restore everyone. john rawlins joins us in concord township. it could take days. >> reporter: when they made that emergency declaration today they said that people need to brace themselves for a multiday restoration of power. trees came down on structures and on wires like the one behind me a tree here is still blocking southbound route 1. a mess best zroibed the mcmahon family garage crushed under a tree 24 hours ago. the roof are popped and came down through the trees and smashed everything. >> inside two 40 some-year-old cars. >> a 74 and a 75 and the beam

>> one of at least two trees blocking south 1, tangled in that tree of course is power lines that have to be replaced. all of this is on a list to get replaced at sometime. john rawlins channel 6 "action news." >> thank you john. >> electricity by the way is not the only service effected by the storms, cell phone customers especially those with verizon had to make repairs. they said that the storm affected its fiber lines that would normally be the backup system. all service is now restored. and patco running on a partial schedule. trees and wires knocked out this morning's commute and full service should be row stored by midnight. and septa had problems but was back up and running by late morning. >> the storm damage is forcing a radnor family out of their home

along gulf road, a man said he thought he heard hail hitting his roof at 5:45 and saw wood chips flying as trees came crashing into his house. >> our "action news" team found damage south of wilmington, delaware, power lines are snaking here at barley mill road the road's closure is closed until utility crews can fix the lines and clear out all the toppled trees. wicked winds and torrential wins led to a transformer blowing here in glen mills and seconds later parts of a tree crashed on to a road and we want you to see this video can you do that too if you like. email us your pictures or videos to jointheaction@6abc.com or share on social media using

particular thunderstorms rose beyond where they fly and that is strong winds being syphoned into the storm called updrafts and then the winds pull down, known as down drafts and they syphon with the storm and cloudy and you get the rush of wind and the straight line winds that pass through much of the viewing area and in edition some storms have such powerful down drafts they create a macro burst in east greenwich township at 5:55, part of the squall line and the straight line winds and an extra pull of wind that created winds of 85 miles per hour that last the 5 and 20 minutes long, today the temperatures are in the upper 70s to low 80s and low humidity and we are awaiting a warm front to the west pulling high clouds our way right now,
