as officials bust a methamphetamine ring. the investigation began after several complaints from folks in the neighborhood. monday night the big story on "action news" is the arrest of several people accused of dealing drugs out of one business and some homes. >> "action news" reporter chad pradelli is live in upper darby with more. chad. >> reporter: rick, police say in all five people were arrested and two drug operations were shut down here in the township. the drug of choice, methamphetamine which police say is making a resurgence here in upper darby. this is what upper darby police confiscated during two raids. methamphetamine guns and cash. two major drug operations in the township are now out of business. >> the problem that i see is meth is starting to raise its ugly head, you know, for years it's been heroin, heroin. police superintendent mike

chitwood says michael michael murterano head one. >> marturano is a known member of the war lock motorcycle gang. he gets -- he tattoos his colors over his back. >> reporter: john mccauley ran the second operation. they were cutting the drugs up when authorities burst through the apartment door on the 3800 block of berkeley. a closer look at the hollow clock uncovered bags and bags of meth. a drug that unlike heroine chitwood says can often lead to violent crime. >> the frightening thing about meth not only does it destroy them physically and mentally, worse than heroin, but it also makes them nuts and wacky. >> reporter: and police say they also confiscated two motorcycles during the raids and investigators are checking to see if any of them are stolen.

the investigation continues. i'm live in upper darby, chad pradelli, channel6 "action news." >> thank you chad. an 85-year-old woman was found murdered in her home in the east mount airy section of philadelphia. it happened in the 300 block of east run ford road. regina bruener was found with her threat slashed and vehicle missing from the garage. the car is a 2007 silver toyota corolla pennsylvania tag p d-1 402x. anyone with information is asked to call police and we will have more on this story for you in a live report at 6:00. >> there are still a few thousand people in new jersey without power tonight almost one week since the storm that devastated parts of our region. the action cam was in greenwich township gloucester county today where residents are now six days without electricity and their frustration is growing. the mayor george shivery called out new jersey governor chris christie over the weekend saying his office hasn't helped with the storm recovery at all. christie's office issued a news release saying power would be restored to most

residents today. and here's a look at the latest figures from atlantic city electric this evening. over 3800 customers remain without power. the most are in gloucester county. >> turning to the forecast, it's been a picture perfect monday. we have lots of sunshine, temperatures are comfortable. let's find out if it will last from cecily tynan. >> it will last through the evening. this is the nicest day of the week so try to get outside and enjoy it, if you can because it's very comfortable. take a look at temperatures. almost feels like a spring day. philadelphia relatively cool, 80 degrees. normal highs this time of the year in the mid 80's. allentown 78. wilmington 80. millville 80. and with the land breeze not a sea breeze temperatures pretty much quite as warm, just as warm at the shore with temperatures in the upper 70's. why it feels so good, though, the dewpoints. we have dewpoints in the 50's. when you have dewpoints this time of year below 60 degrees

that's a very comfortable air mass. that indicates that the air is pretty dry but tomorrow will you notice an increase in the temperature and the humidity. storm tracker six 3-d live showing the reason why there's low pressure across the midwest. what that will do is pull a warm front our way during the day tomorrow eventually a cold front and there is some unsettled weather with that. so, with the increase of the humidity and the warmth come the threat of storms and i tell you it has been a wet june. we had a very dry may but wilmington already more than a foot of rain. atlantic city more than 8-inches. for wilmington and atlantic city the second wettest june on record. philadelphia and allentown more than 7-inches and trenton reporting more than 6-inches of rain. we don't really need the rain but more is on the way. so, this is what's ahead this week. it will turn unsettled not a washout but today is really the only day i can guarantee dry weather. it will get more humid. it will get warmer but i'm not tracking any tremendous heat.

no heat waves on the way. i'll talk more about what to expect including the fourth of july coming up in the full accuweather forecast. rick. >> cecily we'll check in later. thank you. in other news tonight a teenaged boy is in serious condition after being attacked by a shark in north carolina over the weekend. the 18-year-old was bitten in his leg and both hands while swimming off a beach in cape hatteras saturday. officials from the hospital where he's being treated say the boy did not lose any limbs fortunately. a 47-year-old man was bitten while swimming in waste deep water just 20 minutes away. >> sharks are out there. don't swim where people are fishing. don't swim around piers. >> i'm not going out as far but i'm going in. it's not stopping me or the kids from going in. >> there have been six shark attacks in the past two weeks along the coasts in north and south carolina. >> a week of events to celebrate america's birthday have already begun in philadelphia. but this year the u.s. is sounding a holiday terror warning after a weekend of attacks in other countries.

there are new concerns right here for the upcoming fourth of july holiday "action news" reporter david henry is live on independence mall with this story. david. >> reporter: yeah, sharrie people are still trying to figure out what to make of this latest terror threat bulletin. big crowds lining up at places like the liberty bell here today but are in any more danger than they were last year or the year before? >> all the necessary steps are being taken to make every event as safe as it can be. >> reporter: the fbi and homeland security have issued a threat bulletin alerting local law enforcement to be extra vigilant over the holidays but they say it's not based on any specific threat. however, it does come amid rising concern over the danger of lone wolf attacks like those we saw on a beach in that tunisia and at a u.s. owned factory in paris last week. the week long festivities leading up to the fourth of july are well under way here in philadelphia. that included free admission today at the franklin

institute. >> we're going to have a beautiful day in this beautiful city. >> reporter: rich and his family were among those who say they feel safe enough despite the threat bulletin. >> we have plenty of -- you know, we got police and fire and ems out here so there's plenty of people to protect us. we're well protector here. >> reporter: the historic sites on independence mall might be inviting targets but crowds lined up at places like the liberty bell pavilion without much concern. >> we know we will be protected and we're in the concerned about the threat from isis or anyone else for that matter. >> reporter: there will be big crowds at events all over the city from now through the weekend. the fbi and the police are asking every one to help protect themselves by keeping an eye out for anything that might look suspicious. >> doesn't matter if i'm at the ball game or here or at a local bar it wouldn't make a difference, i'm still trying to pay attention to what's going on around me. >> reporter: again, no specific threats here in philadelphia or anywhere else but homeland security is very

>> a wildfire has forted more than a thousand people out of their homes in central washington. the fire which started yesterday afternoon has already burned more than 3,000 acres of land. it's also destroyed at least two dozen homes and brought railroad traffic through washington to a halt. firefighters say the blaze is fast moving and it's being fed by dry conditions and temperatures in the triple digits. there are no reports of any injuries so far. the supreme court says states can continue to use a controversial lethal injection drug, there we go. in a five to four vote the justices ruled that the drug does not violate a constitutional ban on cruel and unusual punishment. three death row inmates challenged the use of the drug saying it does not create a deep coma like unconsciousness. that ineffectiveness they say has led to several botched executions. in the discents justices steven breyer and ruth baeder ginsberg took the argument a step further and said the

>> ♪♪ >> fourth of july weekend approaches it is predicted more than 41 million americans will travel 50 miles or more from home. that is the most people traveling for the holiday weekend since 2007. almost 85 percent of them or 35 million will be driving to their destinations. >> the university of delaware now has $3 million more to provide future students with scholarships. the give something back foundation presented the school with the money today. the gifts are provide up to 150 of the most needy in state students with full ride scholarships. the foundation's program begins in the ninth grade with support throughout high school and then the transition to college. the first students to benefit from this gift will be ninth graders this fall and then begin at the university of delaware in 2019.

new banking partnership in wilmington making financial sense for residents there. various banking officials along with members of the community were on land for the big announcement today including senator carper there. the wilmington based stepping stones federal credit union is now becoming part of a larger conglomerate the federal home loan bank of pittsburgh. the partnership means more opportunities for loans for wilmington residents along with out of farther double housing access. >> somebody in northeast philadelphia is much richer. one jackpot winning cash five ticket worth 600 grand was sold from last friday's pennsylvania lottery drawing. that was sold at the luk-oil at 9418 bustleton avenue. the winner correctly matched all five balls but not the powerball numbers. here are the numbers. it's six 21, 28, 35 and 41.

>> time for a check of accuweather at the "action news" big board meteorologist cecily tynan to start off the week how are you. >> pretty good. what a great day today. the nicest day of the week. we are looking live on sky6 in atlantic city where it's a beautiful beach day. a lot of people on the beach but there is still a moderate risk of rip currents. it continues from yesterday. so folks on the beach really have to listen to their lifeguards. a lot of water rescues yesterday and once the lifeguards are off duty is good idea not to go in the water. rip currents can be very dangerous. temperature-wise though feeling good. average high for this time of

thunderstorms popping up at 2 o'clock mainly north and west of philadelphia and then it will slide to the east around 8 o'clock. some of them could be strong and gusty fortunately we're in the looking at anything like last tuesday when we had that widespread outbreak of severe weather. as far as the chances of rain, pretty much every day right into the fourth we do have a possibility of some rain. tuesday, wednesday and the fourth 50 percent chance. friday will be the lowest, 15 percent. that front that will be moving through will stall with waves of low pressure so that means not a washout any day but still somewhat unsettled weather. the five day at 5:00 sewing tomorrow it will be warm, a lot more humid than tax 85 degrees, thunderstorms especially north and west of philadelphia. wednesday cold front sagging through will bring us more thunderstorm activity. not all day. 87 degrees but not a washout. thursday still warm and humid with some thunderstorms 87. friday will be our driest day 84 degrees. just a 15 percent chance of showers and saturday for the

elementary school that was cleaned out by thieves is now getting help from the fraternal order of police. we'll tell you how. >> now the details. an fbi bulletin has gone out to police departments around the can country warning law enforcement about potential isis inspired attacks near the fourth of july holiday now this in the wake of those attacks in france tunisia and kuwait. so far authorities say there are no dedirect threats against targets in the u.s. but officials fear because of the terror networks reach through social media an attack could come without warning. abc's karen traverse live in washington, d.c. tonight with much more. karen. >> reporter: good evening, monica. the white house really down played this today stressing there's no credible specific threat but as we've seen around so many big holidays u.s. officials say they still want to make these concerns public. the attack in tunisia raising concerns in the u.s. isis claimed responsibility for the attack at a beach resort full of tourists.

38 people were killed. dozens more injured. a bulletin was sent to 18,000 law enforcement agencies here in the u.s. to be on high alert heading into the fourth of july holiday weekend. for possible isis inspired attacks. >> i think the threat is the most significant we've faced since the september 11th attacks. >> reporter: officials are also warning americans if they see something, say something. but today the white house down played the threat. >> there is no specific credible intelligence to indicate any threats against celebrations over the fourth of july weekend. >> reporter: one reason officials are so concerned is because of the way isis has used social media in an unprecedented way to bring in new recruits. >> meteorologist, david murphy message is one of violence hate and it's also a message to try to convince people who are potentially radicalized to carry out attacks. >> reporter: law enforcement officials are trying to track potential isis followers here in the u.s. launching hundreds of investigations. in just the last two weeks at

that he and richard matt had originally planned to go to mexico but when joyce mitchell filed show up they decided to head north. matt was shot and killed on friday. a witness told authorities sweat was almost in the clear when he was shot. >> he was just about at the tree line. if he probably would have gotten that tree line they probably wouldn't have got him. it's like a tropical forest up here. i mean, it's thick. he could have been in canada. >> sweat reportedly told investigators he split from matt five days before because he felt matt was slowing him down. when they were on the run together authorities say the pair used pepper to throw the search dogs off of their trail. greece is in the midst of a financial crisis tonight. the country has shut down the banks and stock market for the next six days as concerns mount over its debt. european creditors want greece to make more cuts but the prime minister announced a surprising referendum to let greeks have a say in the decision. the vote could decide whether

greece continues to use the euro as its currency. experts agree there is a 50 percent chance of greece leaving the euro zone. in the meantime there's a limit on the amount of money greeks can take out of atm's and there's a rush on gasoline with some stations saying they will not accept credit cards. world news tonight with david muir will have much more on the financial crisis in greece as well as the potential threat for terror attacks over the fourth of july holiday you can watch both stories tonight on world news tonight at 6:30 followed by "action news" at 6:00. >> a person in a wheelchair was hit by a car in a busy part of center city philadelphia today. it happened just a short time ago in the area of 11th and market. authorities at the scene say the woman was trying to cross the street when she was knocked from her chair by a car. the driver of that vehicle did stay at the scene. the woman, though, was taken to thomas jefferson hospital for treatment. it's not clear how badly she was injured. a west philadelphia school targeted by thieves earlier this month is getting a big

helping hand from the philadelphia fop. "action news" reporter vern odom is live outside saint ignatius school for us with the details. hi, sharrie. good evening. the fop is doing three different things. they've posted reward money for the capture of those responsible for this break in, they have donated replacement computers, nearly two dozen of them to try to help them out there and while they're doing this, while raising money to make sure the school computer program is healthy again and whole again by the time school opens in the fall. sometime overnight june the ninth into the next morning the school saint ignatius elementary was burglarized to their tune of a lot of valuable equipment. 30 ipads, three dell laptop computers and three mac book pro computers were taken. the culprit cut locks and chains to get to the it gear being used by students and faculty. this was the last day of school before the summer

break. >> the students we were able to keep it from the students. we dismissed that day around quarter to 11:00 and we tried to keep the students off this floor because that's where the broken glass was and police were coming in and out. >> reporter: the fraternal order of police stepped up and replaced 20 of the ipads already. they're asking other unions to pitch in and they're accepting other contributions to have the school up and running with its computer program by the time school bells ring in september. plus the fop's offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the thieves' capture. >> you see a lot of negatives today about policing and this is a positive thing where we're able to give back 20 brand new ipads from apple the apple corporation to help replenish that inventory that was selfishly taken from the students here and from the staff here. >> most times we get break-ins like this, i mean, these things kind of move through the community most likely pretty local. and these things are about

five, $600. if you buy them for $100 you know they're stolen. you should do the right thing and turn them back in. >> reporter: in all the stolen computers were worth about $18,000. if anyone out here listening has any information that could help police solve this crime call the police department right away. live in west philadelphia, vernon odom, channel6 "action news." >> okay, vernon, thank you. meantime in northampton county a former juvenile probation officer is accused of having an inappropriate conduct toward a teenager under his supervision. 31-year-old ryan what iser is is charged with official suppression and obstruction of the administration of law. district attorney john morgue nellie said what iser is sent inappropriate text messages phone calls and also photographs to the teen after she turned 18. what iser is then allegedly threatened to hold her in violation of her probation if she did not comply. >> a 28-year-old man was shot in the stomach while leaving a port richmond bar along the

3000 block of frankford avenue. authorities say the victim was hit as he walked out on the street. witnesses gave officers a description of a vehicle fleeing the scene that was stopped nearby on tulip street. two people were arrested, several weapons recovered. the victim remains in critical condition right now. the motive is unclear. and detectives are also looking for this thief who broke into a northeast philadelphia business. it happened at energy star services in the 12,000 block of mcnulty boulevard or road back on the 11th. the surveillance video captured the suspect using a crowbar to pry open the front door. after several minutes the suspect rushed inside the business and ran back out with an apple computer monitor and keyboard. we've also posted the surveillance video on our web site as much you can get a better look at the suspect there. >> all right, time now for an update on the highways and by ways tonight in our "action news" traffic center. >> let's say hi to matt pelman see what's up. hi. >> hi. we were hoping for better

things than last week but we're not off to a stellar start. big problems in maple shade where 73 is blocked in both directions now right at route 38, kaighn avenue because of some downed wires just like last week but of course this is a new set. no traffic getting by on 73 at the moment in both directions leaving us with single digit speeds in each direction as you approach the blockage point. locally church road would be an alternate or maybe even use 70 or 38 although if you're doing that watch out for a crash in mount law along 38 at marter avenue. we told you about that debris on the northbound side of route one bucks county on the oxford road. there's a crash on the southbound side blocking the left lane at oxford valley road so expect delays there on the southbound side of one the super highway. big problems cropping up in delco in the northbound lanes of 95. it's kind of in the distance but there's a crash northbound by 320 blocking the right lanes. so you're dealing withstand still coming north of the delaware state line. you want to stay local through

spots on saturday but again a nice start to the work week. temperature-wise at the shore right now we've got a wind coming in off of the land so it's in the upper 70's at the shore. you would think okay in the summer time we're getting a sea breeze with temperatures in the 70's. that's not the case. if you look inland they're pretty much the same, wilmington at 80 degrees and the poconos sitting at 70. and how it feels when you step out, it feels fantastic out there for a late june day. the dewpoints are in the 50's so on that scale it is very comfortable but tomorrow the dewpoints will rise between 65 and 70 and it will feel much more humid as we go into tuesday and especially wednesday and thursday. satellite and radar, the changes are coming in the form of a warm front. that warm front right now is draped through the ohio valley parts of west virginia as well as ohio and kentucky where we have some severe weather with it. as it pushes to the east it will throw a lot of clouds our way west of the city early

tomorrow morning but just a few clouds around overnight tonight. it stays comfortable for the first half of the night. by tomorrow morning you'll notice thatup tick in the humidity with temperatures between 60 and 66 degrees. it's really a tale of two stories here tomorrow. if you are south and east of philadelphia closer to the shore, a decent amount of sun tomorrow morning. west of the city the clouds build in. same thing as we get into the lunchtime hour. that's when we'll see the downpours a couple thunderstorms developing in pennsylvania, delaware, new jersey, are you still dry with sun and clouds. and even at 5 o'clock still could be really nice at the shore while i-95 to the north and west we are getting hit by some of those heavy downpours and a few thunderstorms. so if you're at the shore looks like it's a decent beach day. however, you want to swim where there are lifeguards because it's another day with moderate rip currents risk on your tuesday. the air temperature 78. sun just a few clouds. with a southeasterly wind trying to pile up that water again with temperatures -- or at least the wind direction

there behind these vehicles where the elderly victim's body was found beaten and slashed. neighbors say she was a wonderful woman, very involved in the community and they cannot even imagine how anyone could do such a thing. investigators from philadelphia's homicide unit say this murder was especially brutal. >> she had been severely beaten and stabbed multiple times and she was pronounced on the scene. captain james clark said the murderer slashed the victim's throat. that victim has been identified as 85-year-old regina bruener. this morning neighbors called police expressing concern that they hadn't seen miss bruener since yesterday and her car was missing. police arrived to find her dead in her bedroom and now the search is on for her killer. investigators are also searching for her vehicle which looks a lot like this one, a 2007 silver toyota corolla with black duct tape covering a few section of the vehicle with pennsylvania tags p d-1 402x. leon king who lives across the
