there behind these vehicles where the elderly victim's body was found beaten and slashed. neighbors say she was a wonderful woman, very involved in the community and they cannot even imagine how anyone could do such a thing. investigators from philadelphia's homicide unit say this murder was especially brutal. >> she had been severely beaten and stabbed multiple times and she was pronounced on the scene. captain james clark said the murderer slashed the victim's throat. that victim has been identified as 85-year-old regina bruener. this morning neighbors called police expressing concern that they hadn't seen miss bruener since yesterday and her car was missing. police arrived to find her dead in her bedroom and now the search is on for her killer. investigators are also searching for her vehicle which looks a lot like this one, a 2007 silver toyota corolla with black duct tape covering a few section of the vehicle with pennsylvania tags p d-1 402x. leon king who lives across the street says it's that much

more painful to him because he and his family made eight-point to make sure regina was okay. >> we would keep track of regina and i usually see when there's people going over there -- i've gone over there myself a couple times to figure out who you are why are you here a quarter 8 o'clock at night. >> reporter: investigator say the home does not appear to be ransacked and they found no signs of forced entry. in the end captain clark says this amounts to another case of senseless violence. >> she was inside of her house. someone either was let in or forced their way in and beat her and stabbed her to death. it's very sad and very tragic and we hopefully will get to the bottom very quickly. >> reporter: back out lie on the scene neighbors also tell us that ms. bruener lived here with an 84-year-old man described as a friend but we're told that man has been in the hospital the past few days being treated for an undisclosed medical condition. anyone with any information is asked to call 911. reporting live from east mount airy, walter perez, channel6 "action news." jim. >> thank you walter.

a small child is among six people who were injured in a six-car accident this morning in camden county. the pileup happened at 6:30 on route 73 at hayes mill road in winslow township. police say the chain reaction crash began when a truck sideswiped a van. the truck continued forward and collided with a mini cooper and a car. the child and an adult were flown to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. four other victims were taken by ambulance. nearly a week after strong storms swept through the area, lead nears delaware county have asked the governor to declare a state of emergency. that would allow them to get money from the state to help with recovery efforts. county councilman chairman mario saveras says the money would go to eight municipalities including chester which sustained more than two and a half million dollars in damage. he says governor tom wolf is considering the declaration. utility crews are almost done with their work in

gloucester county of the half million power outages throughout the area last week, only a couple of thousand remain and most of them are in this part of south jersey. "action news" reporter john rawlins has the story. >> reporter: when the day start idalian trick electric had about 5,000 gloucester county customers off line. by late afternoon the company said that number had been cut to 2100. dominic nd linda among those 2100. they say their calls to the utility have not produced an estimated time for the lights to come on. >> nothing. zero. >> it's a recording. >> automated message that they know the power is out in our area and they're working on it. >> reporter: late today atlantic electric said its goal is to have the vast majority of outages repaired by midnight but meeting goals has been tough. alexis got power today but was told she would have it last week. >> started calling atlantic city electric. we got a deadline of friday. that came and pent. got a deadline of is saturday.

tomorrow. the new jersey governor will formally declare his candidacy at livingston high school which is his alma mater. that announcement is scheduled for 11:00 and we will carry it live once it begins right here on channel six. the new jersey assembly and state senate passed a resolution today calling on christie to make the payment to the public pension fund immediately. the budget approved by the governor on friday includes $1.3 billion for pensions. democrats say using the state's line of credit to make the payment earlier in the fiscal year could generate $87 million in investment income. a delaware county man has been cleared of the most serious charges stemming from an accident that killed a teenager. jonathan vander horse the of clifton heights was on trial for the crash that killed 18-year-old desimone. he hit another car lagy along the 500 block of baltimore

pike. the wreckage plowed into desimone who was on the sidewalk. the jury acquitted him of homicide by vehicle while drunk but did find him guilty of driving under the influence. the offense carries a maximum penalty of six months in jail. the july 4th holiday always puts philadelphia at the center of the celebration but with a terror alert in effect law enforcement will show a maximum degree of vigilance. alerting local law enforcement to stay vigilant but that doesn't seem to be altering anyone's plans. >> not at all. i mean that's what they try to do scare us. we have to be hyperaware and pay attention to what's going on. i'm not going to change my life because somebody else doesn't know thousand act. >> y. >> reporter: does that change your behavior in anyway. >> no. i've come down to the art museum before and we've had no trouble. i don't anticipate trouble in the future. >> reporter: the fbi says there are no specific threats to philadelphia or anywhere else. threat bulletins have been issued before big public events ever since 9/11. this one comes in the wake of lone wolf attacks in paris tunisia and kuwait last week. isis is trying to recruit people to carry out similar attacks on u.s. soil. the fbi says law enforcement across-the-board will be extra prepared over the holiday. >> there's going to be a lot of people in philly at specific locations for the fireworks and the concerts and

>> upper darby police announced the results of a big meth bust this past friday including five arrests. chad pradelli has the story. >> reporter: michael marturano is well known to police. he's an alleged member of the warlocks motorcycle gang. those who know him tell "action news" he learned to cut hair while in prison. once out he opened marturano's barber shop. a raid of the barbershop and his state road apartment on friday allegedly turned up

guns bags of meth and piles of cash. >> the problem that i see is meth is starting to raise its ugly head, you know, for years it's been heroin, heroin, heroin inch the upper darby raids were part of a targeted operation with the delaware county narcotics task force. detectives raided this home on the 3800 block of berkeley. police say inside the house they found john mccauley, charles half penny margaret gwyn cutting up drugs for say. a closer look at the clock on the wall turned up even more drugs. >> we took what we believed to be two major drug operations out of existence for the time being. >> reporter: that's because the judge handed do you know a $500,000 cash bail for both marturano and mccauley the two who allegedly ran the separate drug operations. police superintendent mike chitwood says the resurgence of meth in the township has him worried because it can often lead to violent crime.

>> the frightening thing about meth not only does it destroy them physically and mentally, worse than heroin, but it also a makes them nuts and wacky. >> reporter: superintendent mike chitwood says two motorcycles were also confiscated during the raids and investigators are checking to see if they may have been stolen. the investigation continues. in upper darby, chad pradelli, channel6 "action news"." >> frontier airlines has flown out of new castle county airport for the final time. the airline pulled out nearly two years after its first flight from delaware. frontier actually stopped service in april saying it was suspending seasonal operations. the company says it wasn't profitable in delaware but said it might reconsider in the future if market conditions change. a new fundraising effort is under way the raise money for the pope's upcoming visit to philadelphia. today hispanic community leaders gathered at the

cathedral basilica of saint peter paul to announce the creation of the latino papal fund. they hope it will encourage latinos to donate. their goal is to have 100,000 area latinos contribute at least five dollars each.

and even some severe weather and the first part of that low pressure a warm front will be moving through during the day tomorrow. tonight, though, a pretty comfortable night t low humidity with dewpoints generally in the 50's, just a few clouds, 66 degrees in philadelphia. allentown 60. trenton 62. cape may 69. and wilmington 64 degrees. tomorrow this warm front will be advancing from the south and west. so what this means it will be warmer, 85 degrees in philadelphia. increasing humidity. in the afternoon some showers and thunderstorms developing mainly west. brighter to the east. wednesday we get in the warm sector of a system. 87 degrees, it will be humid. that cool front will move through on wednesday bringing us another opportunity for a round of showers and thunderstorms. the problem with that front it will be stalling very near us on thursday and that means it remains unsettled. if you are down the shore tomorrow, really the best weather of our area, the problem a moderate risk of rip currents continues.
