making news in america this morning, fast-moving and out of control, a raging wildfire fueled by triple-digit heat. dozens of homes destroyed and thousands evacuated. new vodka coming in to us. a military plane crashing in a neighborhood smolder debris pouring from homes. close call a driver speeds up on an open drawbridge launching off the top. this is no daredevil. that's just a distracted driver. laid out. a music fan picks the wrong stage to rush and nfl player was waiting in the wings. and good tuesday morning to you all. we start with the wildfires

causing so much concern over the west right now. >> and take a look at this stunning image. wenatchee, washington about 120 miles east of seattle. firefighters obviously still with plenty to do before that fire is under control >> that's the case for dozens of other wildfires burning in several states. abc's kenneth moton with the details. >> reporter: the firefight continued overnight. the firestorm in washington state fueled by strong winds, dry conditions and triple-digit temperatures in wenatchee. in the light of day, incredible scenes of destruction. a 3,000-acre fire leaving behind charred earth. so far more than two dozen homes, some mansions destroyed. thousands of residents evacuated. >> embers were going from one house to another catching the roofs on fire. >> you grab your family. >> kids. >> kids and our animals. stayed with friends across the wenatchee river and watched this

area burn all night. >> reporter: embers from the massive wildfire have also reached businesses sparking explosions and industrial fires. ammonia leaked from buildings sending thick, soxic black smoke into downtown wenatchee. a red flag warning remained in effect as firefighters gained ground. >> i think the worst is over but still have to be vigilant. >> reporter: that will be needed throughout the summer. right now across the west 75 wildfires are burning from alaska to arizona. in california a much smaller but still destructive fire burned 300 acres in mesa. fire crews have been working from the air and the ground. 1400 people have been evacuated. no homes or other structures are lost but emergency officials say the fire has the potential to do a lot of damage. kenneth moton, abc news washington. the unfortunate news is the forecast isn't offering much assistance. the fire crews working those crews red flag warnings are in place today. >> and washington oregon and

idaho, justin povick has the forecast for us in that area and elsewhere. good morning to you, justin. >> t.j. and reena, thanks and good morningment record-breaking temperatures back in the forecast over the northwest and this is very concerning because when you talk about heat major droughts gusty winds, low humidity and dry lightning. thunderstorms here now producing not rain but the worst of a possible situation as dry lightning. we are concerned about extreme wildfire danger and that's going to span throughout much of the week. not just on this tuesday. on this tuesday, though concerned about wet weather rolling into p.a. new york and i-95 corridor cities around d.c. baltimore, philadelphia and new york city and then it looks like the rain chances will continue for the fourth of july weekend. not a wash out but storms around. t.j. and reena, back to you. >> thank you, sir. breakingover night a military cargo plane crashed into a resident neighborhood in indenearby that. it had just taken off from an air force base with 12 crew on

board when something went wrong. the plane reportedly slammed into two houses and a car then burst into flames. a hospital in the area says at least 20 people are dead. new this morning, german airline lufthansa expected to make settlement offers as soon as today to families who lost loved ones in the germanwings crash. investigators believe that pilot andreas lubitz deliberately crashed into the ail ps killing all 150 on board. it was later revealed he was treated for depression. another major story we're following is the aftermath of that prison escape in new york. the fbi is investigating an alleged heroin ring inside involving inmates and guards. well the prisoner who was captured alive over the weekend is now speaking out from his hospital bed. david sweat says prison worker joyce mitchell failed to show up to give them a ride. >> they would kill mitchell's husband and then get in the car and drive to mexico on the

theory that mitchell was in love with one or both of them. >> well when mitchell was a no show the escapeties decided to make a run for canada instead. sweat also telling investigators he and richard matt separated in the final five days because matt was slowing him down. matt was shot and killed by authorities on friday. well the crowd of republican for president could get more interesting. chris christie announces later today that he's joining the race. christie is expected to make the announcement at his former high school where he was student body president. known for his brash, some might say overbearing personality, christie could be a natural on the campaign trail. >> it is clear that he is very capable of rebounding and that he's a masterfull retail politician so i don't think it's tremendously surprising that he chose to move poured. >> according to our latest poll 22% of americans see christie favorably. 42% unfavorably. >> expect heavy traffic on the

state department website as the first batch of hillary clinton's e-mails are made public. she admitted she used her private mail to conduct state department business. today's release will be own a small fraction of her 55,000 e-mails sent as secretary of state. good news millions of american workers will be eligible for overtime pay proposed by president obama. the president recommends that salaried workers who earn rough roughlyrough roughly $50,000 a year be guaranteed time and a half after a 40-hour week. only those earning 23,000 or less are eligible. greece is on the verge of bankruptcy. that's shaking up 401(k)s here at home. greek banks are shut down. withdrawals from atms limited to $67 a day. the government says it will not be able to make a $1.8 billion loan payment that is due today. that uncertainty caused the dow to fall 350 points. biggest loss in two years.

when the dow drop dropped 353 in june of 2013. puerto rico's economy in a death spiral. last night the government or governor i should say went on tv to say his attempts to cut expenses and restructure debt has failed. he said the territory's $74 billion debt is unpayable. u.s. bankruptcy law doesn't allow a -- apply rather in the u.s. territory and a federal bailout is not in the works. puerto rico faces a major debt payment tomorrow. a lot of people watching that story. still ahead, is fruit the anti-sunscreen? >> also trump getting fired. nbc severing ties with the presidential candidate following his comments about mexicans. this morning, the donald is responding. plus like "dukes of hazzard" a car launches off the drawbridge. the driver blaming his gps.

historic ballpark in downtown eugene oregon has been destroyed by a fire. flames shooting up twice the height of the stadium and smoke seen all over the city. the staid couple was built in 1938 and officials say it's dry seasoned wood caused that fire to spread quickly. the fire started in the press box not far from home plate. turning to that tragic plane crash in massachusetts. one family dead. another escaped after the private plane slammed into a house. the victims have been identified as a tennessee doctor his wife and teenage daughter flying to a college tour in boston. homeowners and their two children managed to escape un uninjured as their house went up in flames. >> my wife and my boys were upstairs when the plane hit. the boys' rooms are the ones you see burnt out and when i saw the fire p fireball go down the back of the

house we shouted at the kids to get out. >> the pilot reported engine trouble moments before the crash but too late to get to the closest airport. they plan to rebuild but their thoughts are now with the victims. turns out the most american made car is a toyota. survey by cars.com looked at where vehicles' pars are made and where it's bill and the camry is most american made. america's best-selling vehicle for decades, the ford f-150 didn't even make the list because the truck contains less than 75% of american made parts. mcdonald's beefing up its quarter pounder. the burger will grow from four ounces to 4.25 ounces and it will get other tweaks to make it easier. according to reports it's their latest move to stop the losses to trendier competitors including five guys and shake shake. sales have fallen nearly 2.5% this year and some stores are

take a look at that. a car ending up in a backyard pool. a 17-year-old driver lost control, plowed through the fence, sideswiped the house and drove right into the shallow end of the pool. the driver was embarrassed but not seriously hurt. by the way she lives two doors down. her lexus was mom's and dad's. >> give you a look at morning road conditions that that young lady will not be on. wet in a lot of places southwest in the rockies, across the northern plains in the southeast, as well same deal across the great lakes, ohio valley into the northeast. possible flooding in some of those areas. we'll turn to donald trump now. he's fighting back after being fired by nbc over his derogatory comments about mexicans. >> during the kickoff for his presidential campaign trump said some immigrants bring crime and drugs to this country and some are rapists. trump not only stands by those statements but threatening to sue nbc. >> they didn't want me to run
