"action news" is live with the breaking details. >> and more strong storms hit our area overnight. investigators are looking into the possible tornado in chester county and yesterday's damage. >> and new this morning governor wolf makes good on his threat doing something that has not happened in pennsylvania in many decades. >> good morning out there. it is 4:30 this morning. let's go on over to dave murphy. he's got a look at accuweather. karen rogers is off and matt pelman has your traffic. good morning. >> little difficult to see

this but this is the video that we got from a viewer whose name i want to make sure i get. joel ervine. you can see that white streak coming down to the ground. this does time out with one of our storms last night that radar was indicating for a possible tornado and the national weather service will be headed out to berks county today to investigate that and we thank joel for that picture. today most of our thunderstorms are now off the east coast. of course we were really socked in some neighborhoods by strong storms yesterday. several tornado warnings, a bunch of severe weather warnings as well. but now those thunderstorms are a way. still 160 lightning strikes so an active system. we're still dealing with showers in and around philadelphia and down in through the state of delaware. these are pushing toward the east. a lot of rain coverage in the northern suburbs but at least we are overall looking at a diminishing situation in terms of the rain. nonetheless there is a flash flood watch until 6:00 a.m.

across a large portion of the region, the i-95 corridor, all counties on either side of the river and up into the lehigh valley and that's because of the heavy rain we had last night, the fact that the ground is very saturated and any additional rain can create additional runoff. as we take a look at this last little bit coming through it looks like we'll get into a lull with a slight chance of a pop-up thunderstorm later today. 71 degrees damp as you head outside. might be slow going on a lot of our roads because for the second straight week we've had a second day where we're emerging from strong storms and that has left a lot of trees and branches down on roadways. 73 degrees by 8 o'clock. 83 by noon. and your high today is going to be 87 degrees. it will be a very warm one. muggy and humid. and again a scattered shower or thunderstorm possible later in the day. matt pelman i'll show you the scattered nature of those on future tracker six when we come right back. >> we're left with a lot of little lakes on the roadways. buckle up it is going to be a

wet and wild wednesday ride into work. we're still left with this, an awful crash and vehicle fire on the schuylkill expressway westbound side right by the exit for montgomery drive. the burned out shell of the vehicle is still right there. a lot of police officers remain on the scene as you can see and just the left lane is available on the westbound side of 76. so you can expect slowing coming away from the vine street expressway. hopefully they can get everything reopened before too long because if they don't this is going to cause a real mess for the morning commute. coming off the schuylkill on the northbound side of the roosevelt boulevard we had a crash right here on the twin bridges, northbound headed up towards fox street. it appears to have cleared but road is still wet like i said so a lot of ponding and puddling out there. this is the vine street expressway. it was closed overnight because of construction. remains closed for the next half hour. have a crash in limerick along township line road at 422 and a downed tree in chester county is here on the 30 bypass westbound at 340. right lane is blocked here. also mass transit issues. we'll talk about those matt

n-a few minutes. >> all right, let's get back to your top traffic story matt and it is breaking news. a car crashed along the the schuylkill expressway and erupted into flames this morning. it left two people dead and another injured. "action news" reporter katherine scott is live at the state police barracks in wynnefield heights with the full story. katherine. >> reporter: that's right, matt we now know that two people died weren'ty one person was injured. troopers from the belmont barracks were called out to the scene. let's get right to that video of the accident that happened around 2:30 this morning in the westbound lanes of the schuylkill expressway approaching montgomery drive. you can see the flames were intense. somehow this car lost control and flipped to its side then burst into flames. here's what the car looked like after the fire was out. the cause remains under investigation. we don't know if the wet roads were a factor. but we now know the driver and a passenger died. another passenger was rushed to hahnemann university hospital.

fire and rescue crews with the state police were on the scene. traffic was backed up but getting by. again, we do know that there's still activity out there. there's still traffic getting slowly by that accident site but quite a backup on the schuylkill expressway for this early hour. but stay with us for any updates. we're live at the belmont barracks in wynnefield heights, katherine scott channel6 "action news." >> katherine thank you for that. it was a stormy night as a second round of thunderstorms moved through the area just hours after a powerful tornado touched down in chester county. let's go on over to erin o'hearn. she's live at the big board with more on the wild weather and what you saw in your neighborhood. good morning. >> reporter: good good morning, tam. you think about all that technology allows us to do at a moment's notice and this is an example of that. this is viewer video of what appears to be a funnel cloud trying to form. now, as david mentioned joel urbine was are round his business around 2:20 yesterday afternoon shooting towards the

area of lancaster and chester county line which is near honeybrook. this is not a confirmed tornado but the national weather service is sending a survey team to the area today to determine what this is. judging from this video, some of you have already made up your mind but this wasn't the only ominous sighting. take a look at this viewer as he shoots video from honeybrook. >> see it's moving guys, it's picking up into -- it's spinning. you see it? >> reporter: again the national weather service will be out today to these different areas to determine if, in fact a funnel cloud was formed in honeybrook and it may have out in the lehigh valley but residents certainly know they have days of cleanup and the very memory of a very frightening experience. >> peeled the roof right back. my siding is all dented up. my screens have holes in it. my shed has holes in it from it. i got quite a bit of damage here. >> we went down in the basement and heard a loud crash and it was the patio

block of chalmers avenue. the victim in his 20's was shot in the thigh but managed to drive three blocks. he is now in critical but stable condition in the hospital. it is unclear who shot him or why. a delaware woman is recovering from a hazardous materials incident last night. authorities say the woman in her 20's fell ill at the hunters crossing apartments on the unit block of fairway road in newark. three firefighters also needed to be checked out for possible exposure to some sort of fumes. no word yet on what the substance was behind this or where it was coming from. the building was evacuated and then ventilated. family and friends are remembering the 85-year-old woman who was found murdered inside her east mount airy home on monday and they held a candlelight vigil for regina bruner last night. detectives have not identified a suspect for the crime. police found bruner's car which had been taken from her home on the 3100 block of north stillman street in north philadelphia yesterday. >> this is new this morning.

pa governor tom wolf has officially vetoed the legislature's budget. wolf made good on his threat late last night hours after the senate approved the $30.2 billion plan and sent it to his desk. the democrats governor says the bill is packed with gimmicks. republicans defended their measures as an alternative to a tax increase. wolf's move is the first full budget veto in the state in more than 40 years. pennsylvania's fiscal year ended at midnight. today new jersey governor chris christie will be campaigning in maine. he's expected to make a stop in portland later this morning. christie's first stop as an official gop presidential candidate was in new hampshire where he held a town hall event hours after throwing his hat into the ring in new jersey yesterday. new hampshire of course will hold the nation's fires primary in 2016. christie says he promises to tell voters the truth even if it makes them cringe. >> 4:39 now and still ahead on "action news," security changes are taking place at the white house. hear what officials are putting up to keep people out. >> and next an injured hiker

>> new on "action news" a hiker is able to talk about being struck by lightning on a colorado mountain. branch light marks on jonathan hartman 's body show where the electricity traveled through him on sunday. the lightning also injured two of his friends and left his seven month old dog rambo dead. >> i looked up and i saw him laying there. if it wouldn't have been for him next to me i feel like i would have had most that of electricity go through me. >> there happened to be an emt on the mountain who helped them and strangers slowly walked them down to safety. the friends say they will be forever grateful for their help. >> mountain tops during a lightning storm not a great place to be. same thing on a beach or any flat area. if you're the one thing sticking up, that's what it's going to hit. >> we have some this morning too. >> yeah, we do. fortunately it's moving

towards the east of the region. storm tracker six shows you the last of the rain that came through last night in the form of strong thunderstorms and heavy downpours, most of the thunderstorm activity now up by new york but if we go in tighter you can see there's some additional shower activity rolling through philadelphia and the i-95 corridor and this isn't particularly g even though most of the rain isn't all that heavy it's steady enough to combine with what fell last night to exacerbate flooding problems that we've had on some creeks and streams so there is a flood watch in effect until 6 o'clock this morning until we can get this stuff out of here and the last of the runoff is out of here. 224 lightning strikes from those departing thunderstorms as we take a look a look outside we have wet conditions at the airport in the wake of all of the storms last night and that last bit of shower activity coming through right now. the temperature is 71 degrees. the humidity is still up there. it will feel humid again today and your winds are west-southwest at 7 miles per hour. some great photos coming in

from many of our twitter followers. you can see that strong thunderstorm with what appears to be some rotation going on in this storm and of course a lot of these storms were strong enough to drop hail. this is whitehall township pennsylvania up north. jessica tweeting us that picture. as we take a look at storm damage well, the biggest reports came out of chester county, delaware county and then parts of montgomery county and philadelphia. this is the possible tornado that's going to be investigated today out by honeybrook and western chester county, areas of lancaster county and maybe southern b-right in the confluence of that three county meetup there. we had a 64 miles per hour gust flash flooding quarter sized hail in some of these other spots. these are areas where you might see trees down as you're driving in today and up in lehigh county more of the same. lehigh into northampton in fact funnel clouds spotting. the weather service may be investigating this area today as well. golf ball sides hail. 61 miles per hour gusts recorded up here and some

homes damaged. so, again, it's in the lehigh valley and in some of those central counties where we have the potential for some downed trees and slow going in spots this morning. as we take a look at future tracker, it looks like that early rain is going to get out of here pretty quickly probably by the end of the rush hour. for most of the at any we're in a lull with just a mix of clouds and sun, warm and humid conditions. later this afternoon there is the chance of another shower or thunderstorm popping up but all of that's over fairly easy or quickly this evening and i wanted to just let you know that the chance of severe weather by the national weather service and storm prediction center has shifted to our northeast. we're not expecting any more severe weather once we get rid of the thunderstorms that are exiting the coast. 87 degrees humid a thunderstorm still can't be ruled out and even though we're not expecting particularly severe weather this afternoon you always take cover from these storms just in case and as we just saw in that other story lightning is always a problem. town clouds on thursday with showers. mainly south of philadelphia late in the day. 84 degrees is the high there. and then some more showers or even a thunderstorm on friday morning with the clouds and

sun mix in the afternoon and a high of 82. fourth of july still looks mainly dry with a mix of clouds and sun. we're going to go for a high of 84 degrees. can't totally rule out a thunderstorm, though, so you'll want to keep your eyes to the skies and on our our 6abc radar online and tv before you head out for fireworks. looks like sunday and monday are looking dry and nice. >> that's good. thank you david. the secret service is making some security changes at the white house. sharp metal spikes are being installed on the fence that surrounds the property. the hope is that they will discourage intruders after a number of people have climbed over that fence. the secret service and national park service says the spikes are a temporary security measure until officials can find a more long term solution. >> ♪♪ >> time for your first look at business at the big board. the king of prussia mall showed off the progress being made to bring together the plaza and the court. construction on the project should be finished next summer and once it's done, shoppers won't have to walk outside between the two sides of the mall. the addition will also add 50

trains out of the gate on the airport line, wilmington newark line and thorndale paoli line. of course we'll keep you posted but for now the trains on those three septa lines are halted which does not bode well for the morning rush. we have big issues here on the schuylkill expressway remembered right by the exit for montgomery drive. it was a horrible fatal overnight crash that sparked a vehicle fire in the westbound lanes and crews are still on the scene cleaning up. so just the left side has been squeezing by. looks like at the moment no traffic is getting by here on the westbound schuylkill. you want to head for the river drives. i drove on the kelly last night winding around those corners, there are huge puddles that you come upon really suddenly and when you hit them it's like a log flume effect. water goes everywhere. that crash that we had on the northbound boulevard by fox street has cleared out and we've got flooding on the schuylkill. matt told me about this coming in eastbound by the conshohocken curve watch out for high water there as well. tam. >> okay, thank you, matt. new here on "action news," two pilots for an airline in

that's when she dropped him. the hospital is only saying that the infant slipped out of the nurse's hands and fell. either way the parents say they want some answers. >> not even 24 hours old, you know what i mean. that's something -- something that could have been prevented. >> hospital officials say the furs has 30 years of experience and that an internal investigation is going on. local police have also been contacted and doctors are hopeful that the baby will not need surgery. >> new video this morning shows a highway in susquehanna county pennsylvania that looked more like the produce aisle in a grocery store. 42,000 pounds of cabbage and tomatoes spilled all over the road leaving a mess for police and cleanup crews. state police say a tractor-trailer driver lost control, hit a guardrail flipped over and the mess of smashed vegetables stretched half a mile and led to a highway closure for eight hours. the driver has minor injuries and cuts to his face. police cited him for speeding.
