torn, and straight line winds and an ef 1 tornado in honey brook, the severe thunderstorm and the tornado warning was at 2:00, that is a lot of lead time with the tornado, maximum wind is 95 miles per hour, the path was as wide as a football field is long. that is 100 yards and it stayed on the ground for is1.5 miles the distinctive signature of a tornado, the southern hook of the flank of the storm to the south and east. people are asking me how does a tornado form, it is born out of a thunderstorm intense powerful towering thunderstorms, more than 40,000 feet up called a super cell, rapidly ascending air and vertical motion but what kicks off the spin is a rear flank down draft, that is
6:04 pm
when warmer air is pulled down from high in the atmosphere and it creates the rotation that creates the damaging winds and you get the hail and heavy rain with the tornado. first you get a wall cloud the descending cloud from the base reaching towards the ground if that wall cloud starts spinning it becomes a funnel cloud and if it touches the ground it's a tornado and that is what happened in honey brook. >> interesting stuff. thank you cecily our "action news" viewers senus loads of videos and photographs as it passed by through #6abcaction and there were reports of golf ball-size hail, and look at what gilbert photographed in his neighborhood. the dark clouds are swirling in the sky and a tornado trying to
