septa police averts tragedy on the tracks next on "action news". tonight, philadelphia police, continue to investigate the barbaric killing of the eight five-year old woman who killed regina brunner who will unless her east mt. airy home and why. it is wednesday night and the big story on "action news"

tonight is the new window in the life of this much admired woman, admired by her neighbors and by those involved in her numerous civic causes. "action news" reporter annie mccormack is live at police headquarters and you had a chance to talk to regina brunner will holmes two sons tonight, what have you learned. >> reporter: jim they shared fond memories and they shared several messages they have, and one of those messages is to the public. they are hoping anybody who sees this story thinks about their mother and if they have any information they will reach out to police. eight five-year old regina brunner holmes death was a 180 from the type of life she led. police discovered her monday with her throat slit, and she was badly beaten inside of her east mt. airy home. her car was gone and discovered a day later in north philadelphia. detectives believe that robbery was the motive. >> the people who murdered our mom, treated an eight

five-year old, frail woman like she was a stack of beans. man handled her body like she was an in adamant object. >> for everything that she did in her life she did to help other people. that is who she was and very much was what she wanted to do with life. >> reporter: holmes two sons sat down with "action news" opening up because they want to find their mother a's killer and bring awareness of crimes against the elderly often targeted for being too trusting. surprisingly they forgave whoever is responsible. >> we feel sorry for the people. something awful must have happened to them to make their heart so cold but they need to be captured because they will do it to somebody else. >> reporter: in her 80's holmes showed no signs of slowing down, she still work out and editor at a local paper. her whole life she looked out for the under dog and participated in the civil rights movement. now her sons hope anyone who has information will look out for her so she can celebrate her life.

down yesterday in honey brook chester county. the twister registered max wind at 95 miles an hour. today, members of the community were able to assess the substantial damage along a path of a mile and a half long but only 100-yard wide. damage may actually be worse in white hall township lehigh county but national weather service says that there was no tornado here, but straight line winds were plenty destructive. and this is video just into "action news" tonight from septa. a man stumbled across an el platform in kensington this afternoon, tumbling on to the tracks. you're about to see a good samaritan and transit officers come to the man's rescue. it set off a chain reactions of strangers jumping in and also two septa police officers. stumbling down the stairs, this man is walking toward danger. watch as he enters the train's platform at somerset el station and then walks over the edge. septa cashier juan ramos saw it all. >> i immediately hit the dead man switch, for a man who falls or person who falls in the track. >> reporter: he sounded the bell. it is a warning to police that something is wrong. septa transit police sergeant richard cavalier o and brandon maxwell from district four worked the somerset el station and came running. >> we went over to the east bound platform and we see male is unconscious alert. >> reporter: officers took action using a lad tore climb down on to the track all while a portion of the center rail possibly still had electricity flowing through

say two vehicles collided at kirkwood and darwin drive senting one off the road, up on to the walk, into the girls, age 13, 15 and 15. and 88 year-old man behind the wheel was also taken to the hospital. the driver of the other car, declined medical treatment. in philadelphia, 38 year-old raymond wands has surrendered to police, that in connection with the deadly hit and run last week in hunting park. five five-year old jewel joost torres died after being -- julio torres was run down after riding his bike in the 600 block of erie a avenue. wands was behind the wheel of the red pick up driving under the influence and fled the scene after the crash. he has been charged with vehicular homicide, manslaughter and dui. four dogs and two snakes are in the care of the spca tonight, after an animal cruelty raid in a germantown section of philadelphia. officers say the dogs, taken from a row home, in the 6300

block of lambert street are in bad shape. emaciated, possibly not fed for days. they had been kept in the basement in heavy chains and unsanitary conditions. officers also found a pit bull that had died by hanging. no one has been arrested yet but investigators say the home owner may face felony charges. only a "action news" was there as philadelphia public safety officials met today to map out their strategy for this weekend's fourth of july events. today was also a chance to take a closer look at plans for the september visit of the pope francis. public safety, of course, is a priority. so police will have eyes on the ground and in the air. if you plan to head down to the parkway on saturday, be prepared for extra security. >> travel as light as you you can but also, understand, that if you do want to bring coolers and things like that, they will be checked.

it has happened again a seventh person has been bitten by a shark. all of the attacks happened over past few weeks all along north carolina coast american record keepers say this is unprecedented, today's victim a 68 year-old man, who was swimming in waist deep water 30 feet off shore. at noon time today. he suffered several bite wound on his rib cage, lower legs hip, and both hand as he tried to fend off the animal. witnesses say 7-foot shark pulled the man under he was

able to make it back to the beach where people came to his aid and then got him to the hospital. now experts have a number of theories as to what is going on and unseasonal number, ocean temperatures, that will return prompted small bait fish to migrate north which of course, a attracts sharks. another concern is shark fishing, where people cast lures to intentionally bring sharks close to shore, but mostly marine experts say this may simply come down to the mass. attacks are extremely rare by statistics but record show more americans are visiting beaches and more people in the water increases the odds of more contact. another concern now on the mind of travelers this holiday weekend had major u.s. airlines been illegally included to go limit seats or officially keeping prices up. government is investigating all this and monica malpass joins with us more. >> reporter: that is right
