law enforcement is around as holiday weekend begins. >> and one fourth of july celebration overseas has already been canceled over fears of an isis inspired attack. abc's elizabeth hur is tracking the latest. good morning elizabeth. >> reporter: good morning to you. you know authorities say every day officers are told to be aware of their surroundings but this holiday weekend they've actually been warned to be extra alert with large crowds out celebrating, sadly attracting possible attackers. from los angeles to philadelphia boston and atlanta, police this morning fully deployed in new york city, the state-of-the-art command center is activated with heavily armed units on street the water and the skies. on the washington mall preparations also under way for every emergency. and this massive response at the washington navy yard police say is proof they are ready for anything. reports of an active shooter yesterday turned out to be a false alarm but the scare comes as warnings are issued for the potential for terrorism.

bracing for severe weather as the holiday weekend begins. this was the scene in oklahoma. a driver stranded in floodwater after a creek overflowed its banks. the person in the pickup was brought to safety by another driver. >> here's a look at the radar. more storms for oklahoma and the whole midsouth region today. we get more on the forecast from justin povick at accuweather. justin. >> reena and ryan thanks and good morning. a very stormy situation unfolding throughout the southeast. numerous downpours and potential for some severe weather along interstate 40 that will be running from raleigh-durham back into oklahoma and arkansas. meanwhile, the northwest is still in the midst of a heat wave. major drought conditions continue over the golden state of california and numerous thunderstorms likely for our independence day over the arklatex. reena and ryan, back to you. >> justin thank you. after burning for an entire day the fire is finally out on the freight train that derailed in tennessee filled with toxic chemicals. >> the car that erupted was

carrying 24,000 gallons of a highly flammable poisonous material and it forces thousands from their homes in the middle of the night and they still haven't been allowed to return. abc's alex perez is there. >> reporter: that dark cloud of toxic fumes hovering over parts of eastern tennessee, the fire from that freight train accident still smoldering. >> i can see down the tracks burning. going to put my gear on and start that way. >> don't get too close. >> reporter: the fumes forcing 5,000 residents to evacuate. >> this is kind of frightening for a lot of people. >> we walked outside and we could see the smoke coming from the train. and the air, it was still smoky. >> reporter: it was traveling from ohio to georgia when a single car derailed in maryville and caught fire. the derailment punctureing 1 of 27 cars carrying hazardous materials releasing acrylonitrile fumes, the

chemical used to make plastics and considered a probable carcinogen by the epa. it cause headache dizziness and a rapid heartbeat. officials establishing a two-mile evacuation zone. >> we want to make sure people stay safe. >> reporter: 45 people rushed to the hospital many more respiratory issues ten first responders among those treated. the local high school now an emergency center for displaced residents. crews handing out cases of bottled water. authorities warning those here not to drink well water for fear of contamination. and luckily authorities say there are no serious injuries to report here officials say it could be 24 to 48 hours before the area is deemed safe. those barricades come down and residents are allowed back home. alex perez, abc news maryville, tennessee. well turning to the race for the white house. former virginia senator jim webb becoming the fifth democrat to officially throw his hat in the ring. webb a novelist decorated

vietnam vet and outspoken critic of the iraq war, he's vowing to bring an outsiders's voice to the race with a message centered on helping working class americans. an impressive figure from senator bernie sanders raising $15 million for his presidential campaign just in the last three months. most of that money coming from small donors. sanders has been rising in the polls and just attracted a crowd of 10,000 in wisconsin but he's still trailing far behind hillary clinton who raised three types as much. the reigning miss universe is slamming donald trump calling his comments about mexico immigrants hurtful and unfair. but columbia's paulina vega is not giving up her crown despite pressure from around the world. knee shays the organization works independently from trump doing meaningful social work in thousands of communities over the last 64 years. help is on the way to the crew of the international space station. an unmanned russian rocket carrying supplies is on its way after three previous missions

ash sending giant clouds of gas nearly a mile into the air. there were no reports of injuries. but the ash fell on villages as far as 15 miles away. well oil giant bp has agreed to a settlement for a massive gulf oil spill that was five years ago. if approved by a federal judge bp would pay another $18.7 billion for gadges done to the ecology and economy of the gulf coast. the settlement would bring bp's cost for the spill to nearly $54 billion. chrysler could be hit with massive fines before the end of the month. federal regulators say the automaker not only failed to notify vehicle owners and the government about recall when it did make repairs they often didn't fix the problem. the highway safety agency says there were 23 separate recalls involving 11 million vehicles. and executives from wholefoods ra apologizing for what they call pricing mistakes and promising to make changes. investigators from new york's consumer affairs departments

well the mystery behind that missing arizona couple has been solved. police say a friend of theirs was, quote, essentially confessed to killing them. >> jose valenzuela led police to the bodies of michael and tina careccia where they were buried on his property. now, valenzuela claims he was high on meth amp fete mean when he shot them on father's day facing two counts of first degree murder. well health officials are confirming the first u.s. death from measles in 12 years. the infection was discovered during the autopsy of a washington state woman who died this spring. medical examiner says she was likely exposed while hospitalized for another health problem. showing no symptoms at the time. sean "diddy" combs will not face felony charges over a confrontation at ucla. the music mogul was arrested last month accused of assault at the school where his son plays football. l.a. county prosecutors turned it over to the city.

combs insisted he was defending himself and his son and says he's thankful charges were rejected. hot air balloons will be back in the air today at a festival in utah. organizers hoping to avoid another situation like this. a pig balloon struck another balloon's basket that ripped a hole in the pig balloon which rapidly descended to the ground. now, experienced pilot on board that balloon opened his burners in order to maintain as much hot air pressure as possible. >> first thing i heard was a big bang and i looked up and his whole basket was dangling down inside my balloon. >> he suffered minor burns on his face. later he said in a statement, what saved my bacon was that the head of the pig held a lot of hot air and that helped the balloon descend at a safer rate. thank goodness his bacon was saved. >> that's right. a close call for a train passenger in new york. a woman described as a extremely petite fell into the gap between a train and a long island

rayroad station platform. other passengers panicked and could see her on the tracks but couldn't reach her. to get her out, firefighters had to pass her under the train then back through it to the platform. she had luckily only minor injuries. and no this car did not fall from a cargo jet but flew off a highway ramp and crashed into this house in south africa. amazingly not only was the driver unhurt but a resident asleep in the next room wasn't injured either. still, the car must have beening about going at a high rate of speed. well now sports. the tour de france starts tomorrow and finishes in three weeks in paris. >> what a weekend. the big event of this weekend, though features the u.s. women's national soccer team fresh off their win against germany and face japan on sunday. for all the marbles, the women's world cup title, a rematch of the championship game four years ago which the u.s. lost in a penalty kick shoot-out. now some highlights from our
