is much higher than we have seen in recent days. that unsettled air could create thunderstorms tonight. monday night the big story is the uncomfortable weather conditions across much of the delaware and lehigh valleys right now. >> let's check in with meteorologist melissa magee to get the latest on the forecast. >> hi, rick, monica. we are tracking the scattering of showers and storms that are starting to pop up across the delaware and leafs because of that building warmth and humidity. storm tracker6 live double scan radar showing you activity across new castle and kent counties in delaware and also moisture moving north and west of that 95 corridor. we'll widen out the picture because these showers and storms are moving through the north at about 20 miles per hour but the main area of low pressure is currently over west virginia. it's an upper level low and this will continue to move to the north and east as we go throughout the next 24 to 36 hours here with the scattering of activity across much of the northeast. so, as far as what we can expect tonight we're tracking those spotty showers and thunderstorms and the best bet to find that activity will be along philadelphia, that 95

corridor and points to the west. we're tracking some brief but heavy downpours and you could find an instance where you get an isolated severe thunderstorm that pops up. the other part of the story on our monday is that the humidity is quite oppressive in some spots. the dewpoints, the level of moisture in the atmosphere, 69-degree dewpoint there in philadelphia. when we get close to that it's really oppressive but down right oppressive for lancaster, wilmington, down to millville and sea isle city at this hour. as you look at the heat index however, current air temperatures are in the middle and uner 60's but you factor in the humidity it feels like 90 in philadelphia, feeling like 92 in wilmington and 80 degrees along the coast a current heat index there in the boardwalk. coming up we'll let you know if this humidity is going to break any time soon and we're tracking a bit of an unsettled pattern this week. take a closer look with the full and exclusive accuweather forecast. monica. >> thank you melissa. stay ahead of all changes in the weather this week by visiting 6abc.com. there you'll find live satellite images and street level radar as well as the hourly forecast from

"action news" reporter david henry is live at police headquarters tonight with the latest on the investigation. david. >> reporter: rick, it was a girl fight among teenagers that turned deadly yesterday morning. the police say they will soon know who was involved and they better turn themselves in before they have to go get them. >> my advice would be for them to go to a reliable adult, one they trust and come into homicide and tell their story. >> reporter: it happened in this drugstore parking lot at broad and hunting park around 3:45 sunday morning. 17-year-old anita cotton had been to penn's landing with a group of friends for the july 4th fireworks. afterward they head to south street where they ran into

another group of girls from the neighborhood. >> we don't know what the original fight was about. we just know that it carried over on south street where there was some type of altercation. uniforms did a great job of coming and disbursing that. they got on the subway on two different cars. they got off all at the same time and then we had a second altercation. >> reporter: police say surveillance video shows cotton and another girl had each other by the hair. they say the other girl jabbed upward with a sharp object and caught cotton in the neck. she took two steps and then fell to the ground. she died a short time later at the hospital. police say they have multiple pieces of surveillance video from where the girls first fought on south street from the drugstore where they fought again and from septa where they got on and off the subway. sources say the video shows cotton was the aggressor attacking the girl who eventually killed her. her aunt says she was not a fighter. >> my niece, she was a nice girl. she wasn't no fighter. she went out and a fight broke

out and they came back down hire and the end result was she got stabbed. >> reporter: anita cotton leaves behind two-year-old daughter. police say as many as 20 teenagers were involved in the two fights and they will soon have the names of all of them. live at police headquarters, david henry, channel6 "action news." monica. >> thank you, david. a philadelphia man will spend at least five years in jail after he pleaded guilty today to involvement in a deadly crash two years ago. 32-year-old was facing four counts of vehicular homicide. police say he was racing on roosevelt boulevard when he hit a family of five crossing the street. there they are. four people a woman and her three sons died in that crash and one of her sons survived. his case is headed to trial now. jury selection is expected to begin this week. an amber alert in new jersey was canceled late this morning after state police say a little nine month old boy

allegedly abducted by his father at knife point was found safe. the child's father 26-year-old william merino is in police custody. officials say the boy was taken from a home in new brunswick about 9 o'clock this morning and was found three hours later. >> president obama says he's confident the u.s. can beat isis in the middle east but the process to wipe out the terror group will take time. the president spoke from the pentagon just about an hour ago after he visited military leaders for an update on the fight against isis. today the president's singled out syria as a target for ramped up military efforts but emphasized american troops will not be heading overseas. much more on the president's speech coming up in a live report on "action news" at 5:30. meanwhile police say there's no evidence shots were fired this morning at walter reed national military medical center in maryland. officials say someone called 911 this morning reporting the sound of a single shot. local and federal police found no threat after a full sweep of the building.

all patient care at the facility has been suspended for the day. >> she's being called a hometown hero in burlington county, new jersey. carli lloyd scored three goals in the women's world cup title game last night leading team u.s.a. to victory. lloyd wore number 10 when she played soccer at delran high school and she still wears that number today. the current principal at the school was not there when lloyd was a student but he says she continues to be a positive influence years after graduating. >> to have somebody who is from the area who grew up here who comes back to visit is just an amazing amazing accomplishment for her for delran and we are just so proud of her. >> well, after last night's world cup win lloyd said she feels good and expects to play in the next world cup come 2019. lloyd has influenced soccer players across the world but in her home state the following is huge. she played on the medford strikers club team when she was younger and she's now a member of the coaching staff.

i want to focus on this cluster across new castle county moving to the north-northeast about 25 miles per hour along i-95 and we've just gotten word that a flood advisory has been issued for this location. we've seen already an inch of rain in the past hour many so about 5:37 getting close to pleasant hill, 5:39 in milltown. sweltering, it feels awful outside. the dewpoint, the level of moisture in the atmosphere it's quite oppressive. any time you have dewpoint temperatures at 70 degrees or higher, you can feel the humidity overhead and unfortunately not much relief from mother nature over the next several days here. on tuesday still looking at high dewpoint temperatures. 60's are on the humid side and 70's you can say it's oppressive and that will be the case as we get into wednesday and thursday but some relief as we get into friday and into the start of next weekend. temperatures however when you factor in the humidity it feels like 90 in philadelphia, feeling like 91 in millville 80 in allentown the lehigh valley lancaster the current

heat index for you coming in at 86. here's satellite6 along with action radar. what we're tracking, the reason why we have the scattering of showers and storms popping up there's an area of low pressure over west virginia and this area of low pressure will slowly lift off to the north and east and as it does so, we will be in and out of some unsettled weather. just slightly. so, we'll talk about what we can expect. future tracker six showing you 8:30 tonight just a pop-up shower or thunderstorm for philadelphia, mainly areas north and west of that 95 corridor and by midnight we are still tracking a little bit of activity but this area of low pressure will continue to push out even as we get into tuesday so tuesday morning i do think you will find a couple of showers popping up. by 10:30 in the morning. but this area of low pressure lifts out by late afternoon early evening hours on tuesday and at that point we will tap into more in the way of sunshine drier air punches in which is why these temperatures by tomorrow afternoon will be easily in the upper 80's, lower 90's. the five day at 5:00 showing you it's hot and sticky

plus, it was a packed courtroom for a south jersey man accused of shooting and wounding a local police officer. and great strides but still a long way to go. camden school district officials lay out their plans going forward and sharrie williams with that story. >> now the details. president obama says the u.s. is doing a better job when it comes to stopping plans for large scale attacks orchestrated by isis. but smaller operations carried out by a lone wolf groups recruited by the terror network are becoming much more difficult to contain according to the president. abcs kenneth moton is live in washington, d.c. with more. kenneth good evening. >> reporter: good evening, rick. president obama says, yes, that here at home isis has been effective at recruiting and it will take some time to root out the group overseas as the focus of the operation moves from iraq to syria. >> it was a rare visit to the pentagon for president obama. the commander-in-chief received an update from military leaders on the campaign against isis.

with david muir will have much more on south carolina's confederate flag debate. you can watch that following "action news at 6:00. >> closer to home the man suspected of shooting at a camden police officer appeared before a judge today. 21-year-old victor bennett was area neighborhood front of a courtroom packed with police officers. bennett is accused of shooting officer prince read on cynwyd avenue at park boulevard last week. read was hit in the arm by a bullet fragment and is recovering at home. today the judge raised bennett's file $2 million. wilmington police detectives spent several hours at a shooting scene on north madison street. detectives way seay one person was shot in the stomach and then ran to the intersection of madison and seventh street and then collapsed. the victim was taken to the hospital in unknown condition. authorities have not commented on a suspect or a motive. >> philadelphia police are hoping that you recognize a thief who targeted a south philadelphia restaurant. this is surveillance video from bing bing dim sum on

south 22nd street back on june 24th. investigators say a man broke in through the takeout window about 3:30 in the morning. he took $500 cash, an ipad an few bottles of liquor and ran off. if you recognize this suspect authorities would like to hear from you. a salem county health clinic that serves adults and children without insurance is under investigation tonight for alleged negligence. it happened at the shots for tots clinic at memorial hospital of salem county in mannington township. a report found that at least five children were given the wrong medication between june of 2014 and last month and a little two-year-old boy was given an excessive dose of the women's anti-cervical cancer vaccine gardasil also investigator say $20,000 worth of vaccines were improperly stored hadn't to be destroyed. at the "action news" big board now with a major milestone for the camden school district. it's been a year and a half since the district launched

its camden commitment plan and officials are calling it a success but they are not stopping there. joined by camden city administrators and teachers superintendent talked about the positive strides schools have made. he says there have been noticeable progress in the five priorities. those areas are safer schools, better facilities, improved teaching and learning, parent engagement and effective central office. officials also talked about the parent coordinator role that's been established in the school. its cleve goal is to make sure parents know that they have a support system. >> when engaging the parents we're able to letter them know that there are resources for them. we have social service connections, we have all sorts of connections for whatever you may need. >> officials say that partnerships with camden county police department have also made the school safer. teachers are also receiving

coaching throughout the year to better inform the students. now, as far as camden's aging school facilities officials say three new schools are being built and five are being renovated. half of the schools district's buildings were constructed before 1928. over to rick. >> sharrie thank you. today turned outer to be a big payday for the borgata at a cass flow in atlantic city. a new jersey appeals court ruled that the state overcharged the borgata at a for property taxes. the casino will receive a 48 million-dollar tax refund and 15 million in interest for the 2009 and 2010 tax years. altogether that means $63 million will be sent back to the borgata. atlantic city's gambling revenue has been cut in half after a third of the city's casinos closed and that's led to casino tax break settlements. >> chester county detectives are looking for a hit and run driver hoop smashed into a covered bridge and kept going. chopper 6hd over the structure here on yellow springs road west of valley forge road in tredyffrin township.

sources tell "action news" authorities believe a truck did the damage. penndot engineers say the covered bridge is not safe now and it is currently closed. >> all right. time now for another check on the highways and by ways monday night. >> let's see what else is going down with matt pelman. >> for a second let's keep covering that covered bridge here in malvern yellow springs road does remain shut down because of the damage from the accident today between wilson road and 252. now, normally i might say use 23 but with all the construction going on up there, i wouldn't stick with. that i'd stay south maybe on chesterbrook boulevard or 202. this is a problem though because yellow springs road has been a popular cut through especially with the closure of 23. on the northeast extension this afternoon morbid past lansdale there's a crash. speeds still in the 30's so a little sluggish as you pass that accident scene but it hasn't been a terrible afternoon on 95. just southbound slowing by allegheny headed towards the work zone at girard. it was not a good afternoon in bear new castle county because of a northbound crash on highway one that's gone but

here this evening but if you get hit by one of these downpours or quick thunderstorms, you'll get a little extra drink of water for your garden and your lawn. so some good news. 90 degrees the heat index right now in philadelphia. our high today was 87. but it feels like 91 in millville. lower 80's at the shore. but it's very muggy at the shore despite that wind coming in off of the water and up in the lehigh valley our heat index a little lower right now because of that recent rain at 80 degrees. satellite and radar, it's all in response to low pressure to the west. this is upper level low energy in the atmosphere, sparking some of those downpours and thunderstorms in conjunction with that heat and humidity, so it's a perfect combination so to speak here. so for tonight those storms and downpours will be very scattered. it will be warm and sultry for everybody with low temperatures in the upper 60's to lower 70's. and our heat pump will continue tomorrow. high pressure's right over bermuda. it winds are on a high clockwise, so the winds being driven from the south to the

north keeps the heat and humidity in here for another day tomorrow at 90 degrees. we'll be between fronts so there could be a spotty leftover thunderstorm tomorrow morning. otherwise, in the afternoon it dries out before the front collapses in here on wednesday and that will bring a lot of clouds our way and again a chance for those downpours and thunderstorms with temperatures near 90 and staying very humid and eventually this high will win out and push the front way to the south to dry us out by the end of the week. but if you're heading to the shore tomorrow, clouds and sun. there could be some stray thundershower first thing in the day with a temperature of 82 degrees and that ocean is very balmy at 75. hot and humid tomorrow. it could be unsettled at times. the first half of the day. the second half of the day tomorrow much drier with some sunshine and then wednesday with that front nearby numerous downpours thunderstorms at 90 degrees and it stays unsettled on thursday. that front is going to linger for one more day ripple of

"action news" reporter annie mccormick live in east mount airy. >> reporter: monica even though homicide detectives are confident wilson is their man they say there are still two people out there using the victim's credit did it cards. many are reporting they believe they were victims of robbery at the hands of the same man who killed their neighbor. saturday police arrested 37-year-old leroy wilson for the brutal murder of 85-year-old regina brunner holmes. police say the local handyman has a lengthy rap sheet in florida with a few arrests here. they believe the 85-year-old victim caught him stealing before he beat her and slit her vote. sunday at a memorial service the popular mother and grandmother was eulogized news of the arrest days before the services relieved the family. >> it was
