>> looking out for storms later on today. dave murphy and matt pelman filling in for karen. >> cloud covering in from the west. we'll probably see some early sunshine and then a frontal boundary is going to be streaking right threw toward us and during the afternoon in particular there is a chance of some of this shower activity to move in and in the warm and humid air mass today it could trigger a drenching downpour producing shower or thunderstorm at some point. best chance of that is later this afternoon but like yesterday we could have little bits and pieces of this popping up during the morning. 78 degrees in philadelphia right now, 76 in wilmington, 76 trenton, 71 in allentown and mid 70's down on the boardwalks. it is very humid out there again. dewpoints up around 70 degrees or higher and that is what we call oppressive humidity so like the last couple of days you got to take it easy out there. 76 by 6 o'clock, 81 by 8 o'clock, warm and humid partly cloudy to start out with a little bit of that sun coming in from the eastern horizon. it's not 812 degrees by

9 o'clock. we'll be about 81 and then 85 degrees by noon. it may feel like that with the humidity. 89 is today's high we'll hit that at 3 o'clock. in the afternoon and early evening a drenching spotty shower or thunderstorm is possible and you want to slow it down, matt pelman, because as you know, being a traffic guy, those drenchers can really back up the storm drains in a hurry. >> they can cause quite the mess and i'm glad for one it's not 812 degrees. good morning to you, david. good morning, everybody. we're also glad at the westbound side of the rinses has now reopened but we are patiently waiting maybe not patiently, we are waiting on the crews to clear out from the eastbound side of the vine still blocked off between this point at the schuylkill and broad street. should be reopened any minute. everything is opened on 95 ready for you as come southbound past allegheny headed towards the city and the ramp from the northbound side to westbound vine reopened. that was blocked overnight for construction. tacony palmyra bridge blocked because of a bridge opening.

so head for the betsy ross instead. we still have the blockage in upper darby of 69th street as katherine has been telling us because of the fire from the other day. still have some construction other northeast extension approaching quakertown the left lane remains closed. should be gone in a little bit. in egg harbor township watch out for work until 7 o'clock this morning, so two more hours in the southbound lanes of black mon road stot shut down at steel manville road but steel manville road is a good alternate to get around the closure on this wednesday. matt. >> thanks matt. new this morning on "action news" a gunman is on the run after opening fire on man in wilmington, delaware. police say the shooting happened shortly before midnight near tenth and spruce streets. when police arrived on the scene they found a 20-year-old man lying in the street with multiple gun shot wounds to the back and leg. he was rushed to christiana hospital is that in critical condition. police are also searching for a motive for this crime. crews in upper darby are still working this morning to clean up the scene of monday night's four alarm blaze. the action cam was on south

69th street early this morning where demolition is under way. the fire caused major damage to the payless shoe store. other businesses hope to reopen today. "action news" reporter katherine scott will have a live report on the cleanup in our next half hour. >> a delaware woman stole a fire department pickup truck then got into an accident before finally being arrested. authorities say a 43-year-old woman stole the vehicle from the new castle county policy police headquarters parking lot yesterday. officials say the woman took off. she was then involved in an accident and fled the scene. a couple of hours later police spotted her on dupont highway where they were able to catch and arrest her near the police headquarters. >> rescuers in bucks county pulled a five-year-old boy from a well. it happened in the backyard of the boy's home on swamp road in buckingham township yesterday afternoon. officials say the child had been standing on top of that sealed well. the cover buckled and the boy fell 15 feet. the well had about 2 feet of

water in it. fire officials say a deputy chief went down the well with a rope, card the boy up a ladder and then passed him off to medics. >> it's one of the calls where you're just amazed that this kid went through what he went through and besides the scratch i saw on his legs, he was in really good shape. >> the boy was taken to saint mary medical center to be checked out and was released hours later. >> 5:05 now. subway is suspending its relationship with jared fogle. fbi agents raided fogle's home in indiana yesterday morning removing electronics from the property. two months ago the director of fogle's foundation was arrested on child pornography charges. he became a subway spokesperson after shedding 245 pounds, more than 15 years ago by eating subway sandwiches. celebrity chef paula dean is the center of another controversy. this picture was tweeted out

from her official account. dean's son bobby is wearing dark facial makeup appearing to looky look like ricky ricardo and dean is dressed like lucy. the photo was main 2011. in the statement dean says she's sorry and her social media manager posted the picture. that person has been fired. good morning america will have much more on both of these stories coming up at 7:00 a.m. that's after "action news." >> motorists will have to dig a bit deeper to pay for travel on the pennsylvania turnpike. the turnpike commission is raising tolls by 6 percent beginning on january 3rd and plans to impose fare increases yearly until 2044 which we won't be driving cars by then i'm sure . >> [laughter] increases will range from three to 6 percent. easy pass motorists already pay lower tolls. 2044 we'll have space ships. >> the rates for hover cars will be double. [laughter]

the baby hovering a little bit above the road surface if we get a heavy downpour. storm tracker6 live double scan shows you we're dry for the morning commute. the afternoon could be a different story. a couple showers north of philadelphia. we won't expect those into philadelphia until probably in the afternoon. we have warm and humid conditions again. might be a little bit of early sun coming up over the horizon a bit later. there's center city. the clouds high enough to see the tops of the sky scrapers which is nice. 78 with high humidity. 71 in allentown, 76 in wilmington, 76 in trenton and mid 70's down along the boardwalksboardwalks. i can see that hair frizzing up with the high humidity. the morning mainly dry. yesterday we did have a couple of little specs of precipitation that opened up here and there and in some cases they prude isolated five minute downpours. you could see that during the morning but it looks like most of our action is going to be later today, by 4, 5 o'clock you will see some of this

popping up and notice how in this humid air mass where these showers and thunderstorms to pop they could produce drenching downpours. that would be the issue. not everybody sees them but those that do will want to slow it down. by 9 o'clock looks like we're beginning to see the end of that. the big issue today from anything that does form would be downpours mainly in the afternoon and evening heavy rain cells leading to flash flooding and poor drainage areas where you're going to be throwing up those big splashes if you're driving too fast into that stuff. be careful if you run into an area that has experienced some of that. warm and humid a drenching storm not out of the question in the lehigh valley. most of the time you'll just be dealing with temps in the 80's this afternoon and warm and sticky conditions. 84 is the high down the shore. warm and humid. there is the possibility of a thunderstorm here as well. so, if you hear a rumble of thunder or see the skies starting to look threatening and you're on the beach you get off the beach 'cause that's not a good place to be what with lightning always a possibility from storms. and in philadelphia warm and humid, a spotty drencher, a high of around 89 degrees. winds five to 10 miles per

hour. overall not all that strong today. as we rolled through the day you can see how we do get up into the upper 80's for most of the afternoon. our high of 89 probably around 3 o'clock and by the way tomorrow also looks humid and there could be some more of these drenchers around. your exclusive accuweather 7-day 89, heavy downpours possible here and there as we go through the afternoon and evening. thursday humid with some afternoon storms also possible, 87 degrees the high there. then finally on friday we get out of this pattern. frontal boundary pushes away from us. it's warm with a high of 86. but much less humid and saturday also looks like a really good day. should be great for fireworks night at ppl park with the union. then on sunday the humidity builds back in. we get hot and it looks like sunday monday and tuesday some thunderstorms around. >> that's a summer forecast. >> we do it all over again. >> lot of rain this is summer. >> yeah it has been. >> 5:09. sparks fly during an emergency landing foss passengers aboard

one bensalem and willow grove. the right and center lanes out of commission but should be reopened before too long. update for you on this closure in the malvern area of yellow springs road. you know the vehicle damaged the bridge a few days ago, the knox covered bridge. well, they updated us yesterday and they said they're waiting eight weeks for supplies to arrive to fix the bridge. then they're going to start as soon as those supplies come in on their repairs. the bridge should be reopened by the end of the year so that's the update but you're looking at a bunch of months without in knox covered bridge along yellow springs road. we've got problems in delco along gradyville road. hearing that the road is collapsing in on itself. this is new this morning. going to have to be closed for a few weeks. so maybe stay up on route three west chester pike or barren road to get around that new blockage. time for the commuter report brought to you by the waze app and the waze app this morning takes down to new castle county see what we got going on here along 141 just a vehicle stopped on the shoulder near newport along basin road no big deal there. erin.

>> thanks so much, matt. new on "action news" police say they found the body of a baby who was thrown into the connecticut river. the father of the seven month old baby aiden threw the child into the river sunday night right before he jumped. crews rescued tony moran no, sir from the river but they did not find the baby's body until yesterday. moran no, sir is now recovering in the hospital. no word yet on what charges he will face. >> this is new. a united airlines flight had to return to the airport in hawaii after sparks began flying from an engine. a passenger on the flight from honolulu to san francisco started recording this on his cell phone. you can see the constant streaks of orange coming from the engine. the pilot returned to honolulu to make an emergency landing with only one working engine. >> was i scared? yeah . >> [laughter] 'cause at that point in time it was like there's nothing you can do except sit there and watch it play out. what was amazing was that the rest of the folks in the plane did not panic and freak out.

>> the pilots also dumped the plane's load of fuel before landing. the plane touched down safely without further problems. >> new this morning a los angeles unified school district is taking new steps to stop students from sexting. the issue will be the subject of a new education campaign starting in the fall. officials are creating a video lesson plans and handouts which will be available to both students and their parents. the school district says the program will include information on both the criminal and personal consequences of exchanging explicit photos. >> the last place phillies beat a first place team. phillies pitcher chad billingsly faced the dodgers his former team and notched his first victory in more than two years. seven to two the final. adam morgan will take the mound for the phillies in game three of the four game series tonight. the sixers beat the boston celtics 76 to 62 last night in summer league play and that's jahlil okafor who scored 13 points on five of 12 shooting.

point. the vine street expressway eastbound reopened here by the schuylkill. that just happened within the last five minutes or so. this is our good buddy ben the ben franklin bridge and around the clock now we have westbound restrictions. the right lane out of commission basically for the rest of the summer through labor day. this is like what we dealt with last fall when i think it was the eastbound right lane that was out of commission around the clock. now, it's the westbound right lane. that means that the patco trains are single tracking even during the rush hours around the clock so there is some lapses in service. everything a little bit different as of this week, david. >> matt, hit rewind and hit play for today's forecast. it's another warm and humid one just like yesterday 82 degrees by 9 o'clock, 85 by noon. your high today is going to be 89 and during the afternoon in particular there is the chance of some spotty but potentially drenching showers and thunderstorms and a thunderstorm here or there could even produce some gusty winds. great day to travel if you are headed out of town on vacation today, though there's just a couple of chances of strong thunderstorms out in the northern portion of texas
