does the chance for afternoon storms. >> people need to learn. put the guns down. put 'em down. >> an eight-year-old boy makes an impassioned plea to stop the spread of violence in his community. >> fire cleanup continues on an upper darby block. we have an update on when shoppers can expect the damaged stores to reopen. 6:30 on this wednesday. tam saw. erin o'hearn joins us along with matt pelman in for karen. and dave murphy we sent him outside. >> a little muggy outside. you can phil feel it standing still. if you're working it will have an impact again today and we're also going to be impacted by some precipitation. right now it's off to the west especially as we get into the afternoon there is the chance of some drenching downpours developing along that cold front on its way with those showers. 79 degrees is your current temperature in philadelphia. dry for the morning commute. 77 in wilmington, 76 in trenton. 71 in allentown and look at all those 77's in south jersey

and delaware. dewpoint is at 70 or better and that is what we call oppressive humidity. as we roll through the day it's going to be a warm one. by 8 o'clock, already in the 80's. by noon, 85. and there's your high at 3 o'clock, 89 degrees. again the afternoon particularly later we go through the day could feature some drenching downpours from some showers and thunderstorms, perhaps a gusty thunderstorm or two as well. not everybody sees this stuff but those that do will want to take cover and slow it down if you're on the roads because flooded road condition cos happen in a hurry with some of these downpours. matt pelman, what about roads this morning? dry so far. that's usually good. >> yes we appreciate that, thank you very much. that helps with the start of the wednesday morning ride, david. we're looking live at the ben franklin bridge and once again this morning we're talking about the patco construction that's taking out the westbound right lane. if you know traffic moving in that right lane and this is the case around the clock for the next few months. what that means is just three lanes coming into the city for the rest of your summer

morning rush hours. they are going to be busy rush hours. already we're starting to see a little slowing here on the downside of the ben headed towards eighth and vine. also busy on 95, just normal stuff here on the southbound side approaching cottman. then you back up again from the betsy ross bridge on into girard avenue. this is the schuylkill with the eastbound delay starting to form from just past the roosevelt boulevard through this point at montgomery in towards sense the vine street expressway. the paving this morning i told you about a bit ago in cherry hill running a little bit late along 38 westbound between the mall and lexington avenue by camden catholic. they still have the left lane blocked but should be packing up and clearing out of there shortly. this is 42 in camden county northbound side some building traffic headed towards 295 and the walt walt whitman bridge. egg harbor township black mon road closed. stick with steel manville road to get around that construction. matt. >> thank you matt. crews in delaware county worked through the night and the morning making progress

towards the reopening of several stores damaged by fire this week. "action news" reporter katherine scott is live at the fire scene along 69th street in upper darby. katherine. >> reporter: matt, that's right, the hope is that at least some of these stores can reopen today but it really just depends on the progress. crews have been working throughout the night. we've seen crews drive in this morning and you can see some going up the hill right now as they work to tear down this payless. you can see this block is still closed. no cars can come through. that sidewalk is closed for pedestrians and perhaps more important to businesses. it's also closed to shoppers. crews were still at work overnight on the unit block of 69th street in upper darby the site of monday evening's fire in payless shoe stores. most of the neighboring stores have been closed since that fire. some shoppers turned up tuesday only to be turned away. >> we were coming down here to shop. >> not today. >> reporter: yesterday a demolition crew worked by hand fearing the collapse of an unstable wall in the back of

the store. concerns about a collapse and issues with power meant all stores butter one on the block were closed yesterday. the mayor hopes there will be some reopenings soon. >> our concern right now is getting this business community back opened. we're working as progressively as possible safely. we're looking at possibly turning some stores over in the morning. >> reporter: and the investigation here continues. this is a joint investigation with police and the fire department here as they work to determine the cause and origin of that blaze on monday. we're live in upper darby katherine scott, channel6 "action news." >> thanks, katherine. the search is on this morning for three robbers who stole $15,000 from a philadelphia home. swat teams searched rooftops as police taped off the 3800 block of j street in juniata yesterday. they found a getaway car but it was empty. officers were searching for the home invaders who took off from the original crime scene on tulip street. police say they snuck into the house from a bedroom window. the homeowners were there but

were not hurt. >> atlantic city police shot and killed a stabbing suspect moments after he cut a store clerk. 29-year-old peter ferry was killed at cedar market yesterday morning. the store owner says customers ran out as the suspect chased other employees around the store. they managed to lock the front door and run out the back. this is ferry's second day of work. >> communication with his family. he says he need to work. he says come down and it happened. just his luck. it could have been anybody else. it could have been me. it could have been somebody else. it just happened to be him. >> neighbors say the suspect was a known drug addict who had recently gotten out of jail and wasn't taking his medication. >> a private school administrator in chester county is accused of inappropriately touching a student. 62-year-old george symonds of wilmington ran the concept school in thornbury township. the victim told police symonds repeatedly sent explicit texts

e-mails and made phone calls. the victim who is 14 years old at the time said the relationship then became physical. symonds was fired. he is currently free on bail. >> former eagle donovan mcnabb issued a cryptic statement about his second kui arrest in less than two years. on his radio show the retired quarterback said there was a story that was released and he is handling the matter. police in gilbert arizona said mcnabb rear-ended a vehicle stopped at a red light. no one was injured. since this is his second arrest he could face up to 90 days the jail if convicted. the local prosecutor who handled the claims made by a former temple employee against bill cosby is speaking out. bruce castor was the montgomery county district attorney in 2005. castor explains he cut a deal with the comedian due to a lack of evidence. he says he convinced cosby to go on record about whether or not he obtained drugs to give women for sex and in exchange there would be no criminal

charges. >> to clear him from the possibility of arrest and enable andrea constance then to use the civil courts to get some measure of punishment against cosby. >> a judge unsealed part of that deposition on monday in which cosby admitted he obtained sedatives to give women for sex. >> the ntsb has sent an investigator to the wreckage avenue midair collision in south carolina. witnesses say an p-16 fighter jet broadsided a smaller cessna. the two people in that plane were killed. the air force pilot ejected in time and was not hurt. the jet's engine landed on a campground about 20 miles northwest of charleston. fortunately no one on the ground was hurt. in this humid air mass. right now we are dry across the immediate region. we're starting to pick up a couple of sprinkles and showers west of lancaster. the better chance of downpours is probably in the afternoon. taking a look outside we have sky6 at the shore and it looks like some rays of sunshine are getting in between the clouds on the white caps there rolling in toward the beach front. temperature right now in philadelphia is 79 degrees. shore is not going to be a bad place to be. we'll cover that in a moment. your dewpoint in philadelphia, 71. anything of 70 or better of course is that oppressive humidity. you've been dealing with it for a couple of days now and it's going to be another one of those today. ones out of the southwest at 10 miles per hour. in terms of precipitation today, again something might filter through during the morning but generally speaking the morning is dry compared to the later afternoon hours. as we advance this from noon up to 5 o'clock you can see how we do start to see some spotty but potentially heavy downpours developing ahead of a cold front coming in. it's warm and muggy today and

at times you're going the see those downpours either from a shower or a thunderstorm and yes a gusty thunderstorm can't be totally ruled out but the big issue is going to be those downpours. by 9 o'clock most of those are starting to push over towards the east of philadelphia and getting on offer the map. so risks today certainly lightning if we see a thunderstorm. a moderate risk of strong winds only because some of these storms if they do produce a heavy downpour could push out some brief gusts out ahead of them but the biggest issue of all today is easily going to be the downpours in that warm and humid air mass. we're not looking at severe weather today. as we take a look at temperatures, we're looking at pretty warm muggy conditions that's for sure. 81 degrees by 8 o'clock, 84 by 11 o'clock, 88 by 2 o'clock and your high today is 89 degrees and that will hit at about 3 o'clock this afternoon. high temperatures from north to south only the low 80's up in allentown, mid 80's in reading and lancaster. upper 80's in philadelphia, millville, dover and toms river. down the shore mid 80's and let's take a closer look at the shore because before the second straight day you can really get some relief down there. it will be mostly

cloudy and muggy but highs on the beach only in the mid 80's and the ocean temperatures still running very warm in the mid 70's. of course an afternoon downpour is also possible at the shore and if the skies get for bodying or you hear a rumble of thunder you get in off the beach immediately. 75 degrees in the ocean off of delaware. tomorrow clouds and maybe some sun through most of the day but later in the afternoon a wave of low pressure riding along a stalled front is going to bring us the chance for yet more showers and thunderstorms and they could again be drenchers. your exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, 89 today. humid with downpours possible in some neighborhoods. 87 tomorrow, humid with some late afternoon thunderstorms possible. and then finally on friday, yeah, it's still warm with a high of 86. but much less humid and we get a break in the humidity. saturday also looks good. not only in the afternoon with sun, pretty warm, 89 the high but in the evening good weather for the ppl park crowd at the union soccer game which is here on 6abc by the way. and then it looks hotter and

>> ♪♪ >> well, it's going to be a lot like yesterday, which is a problem if you don't like the heat and humidity. it is 6:43 on this wednesday 78 degrees getting up to the high 80's and look out for strong storms later. >> matt pelman standing by where he's drawing all over the big board. >> you know, i like to try and draw some little explainers for you to help you out. these are the northbound lanes. these are the southbound lanes. you get it, i'm sure. this is 95. perhaps the most important thing to know. and, see that it's quite congested by now. not surprisingly. southbound around cottman and then southbound again from approaching the betsy ross bridge through this point at allegheny into girard. hopefully everything is nice and clear for you now even though the roadway is not. on the big picture schuylkill expressway westbound also slowing there of course. 12 miles per hour by city avenue. katherine has been telling us that 69th street remains closed in upper darby because of the fire from a few days ago. and of course we still have the construction and will the rest of the summer on the ben franklin bridge westbound headed into center city.

right lane is blocked and we're already starting to see delays. a couple other construction zones for the next couple weeks they're going to be blocking frankford avenue between venango and caster during the mid days. that's new as of today. you stick with aramingo as an alternate. the next few nights they're going to close the mlk drive right by the art museum. at that point the kelly drive or schuylkill would be better bets. meanwhile here's an update for the 2000 of you that used to use the knox covered bridge each day along yellow springs road up until monday when it was damaged in that accident. they're going to have to wait about eight weeks to get the materials in to fix the bridge. then the repairs will begin so they're thinking the bridge will reopen by the end of the year but not until then and gradyville road in edgemont township delaware county now closed. the road apparently collapsing in upon itself so that's blocked indefinitely. stick with route three west chester pike to get around that. erin. >> all right, thanks so much matt. dramatic new dash cam video shows the moments a black bmw barrel need a utah

state trooper. he had been helping a driver that hydroplane need a barrier when the bmw also lost control. the trooper has a few broken ribs but he is expected to make a full recovery. >> there's new information on a shooting death at the san francisco pier. the weapon used to kill an innocent woman may have belonged to a federal agent. francisco sanchez is charged with firing the gun last week. in court yesterday he maintained they found the gun picked it up and it accidentally went off. sources say the serial number shows the weapon belonged to an agent with the bureau of land management. sanchez is an illegal immigrant who had been deported five times. >> analyte-year-old boy has a powerful message about the ongoing violence in chicago. tj donald is taking part in the city's safe haven summer program. he's one of 12,000 public school students enrolled in the free day camp at churches and community centers. tj talked about a seven-year-old boy who was shot to death over the weekend. >> he didn't even go second

course down to center city. in south jersey and delaware a lot of 70's in fact some mid to upper 70's across the heart of south jersey and delaware. 77 on the boardwalk in atlantic city at this early hour. if you are running errands today, i'd definitely recommend early for two reasons. first of all, the heat is not going to be as bad 82 degrees by 9 o'clock, 85 by noon. also the farther you go through the day the better chance you have of some of those thunderstorms and heavy showers developing. your high today is 89. in some cases not everywhere but in some cases where you see a shower or a thunderstorm, matt you're going to be looking at a drenching downpour and you want to avoid that so errands in the morning today. >> thank you david. new this morning a west virginia man is accused of letting to deerletting two deer live in his house. ronnie chapman says it's not true. the deer are able to come and go as they please. wildlife officials found evidence the deer were living in the home full time. he was charged with containing wildlife and paid a $300 fine. >> on the people scene this

morning tom celek in the hot seat after someone realized he was using public water to keep his lawn green during california's drought. with water cut backs if place the local water district says celek and his wife used a fire hydrant to fill a water truck. officials are suing the couple arguing they had to pay more than $20,000 to simply document the facts. we'll be right back.
